Predicting what the second release of the College Football Playoff Rankings will be

We do the impossible and try to predict what the second release of the College Football Playoff Rankings will look like. Feel free to throw darts.

We now have that much-anticipated baseline we were waiting for. The College Football Playoff Committee released the first set of CFP Rankings for 2021 last Tuesday and it nearly caused a stock selloff.

Are you ready to do it all again?

We’ll now get a set of these rankings each Tuesday until we get to the last CFP Rankings that will determine who gets into the College Football Playoff on Sunday, December 5. That means we get to throw things at the wall five more times until we finally come to grips with the almost impossible job the committee has with just four teams getting into a so-called “playoff.”

Here at Buckeyes Wire, we like to do the impossible. No, we’re not talking about Jim Harbaugh’s chances of beating Ohio State, but we go through an exercise using our own derived formulate that takes several factors into account. It’s called opinion, guessing, and the infamous eye test. Come to think of it, that sounds a lot like the “data elements” the committee uses as well.

Before you get all in a stir on Tuesday, we’ll try to get you primed for what you’ll see and let you get your wall-punching out of the way so you can not be shocked at all-new College Football Playoff Rankings released Tuesday evening.

Here’s us predicting what the second release of the CFP Rankings will look like

FiveThirtyEight updates Ohio State’s chances of making the College Football Playoff after Week 2

What’s the latest College Football odds for Ohio State and others in contention after Week 10 according to FiveThirtyEight?

It’s that time of year where a nudge here or there in the rankings by the College Football Playoff Committee can make a huge difference in what kind of odds a team like Ohio State has in making the CFP. The Buckeyes more or less control their own destiny but will have to deal with the hand that the CFP Committee deals them regardless (we’ve seen that before).

To keep track of where OSU’s odds stand on getting in on all of the fun, we like to keep our eyes peeled on what the folks at the popular analytic site FiveThirtyEight have to say about what’s going on. Each week, they update the CFP odds based on the outcome of games and spin it through whatever genius-level equation they have, and share it all with the enquiring college football minds.

We have the latest projections and we’re going to break them down for the top eleven on the board at the moment. Remember, this will all change about a dozen ways leading up to the final rankings and selection Sunday, but it’s good to know where everyone — including, of course, Ohio State, stands about a month out from when travel plans will be made.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

All Ohio State football trailers to date for 2021

Every Ohio State football trailer indexed and added to each week. Spend some time, pick your favorite.

There are a lot of folks that patiently wait for the Ohio State football team to drop the trailer for the upcoming game each week. These cinematic masterpieces that could pass for Hollywood promos come out every Thursday, normally in the evening, and that’s when we share them with you.

We are big fans of these just like a lot of Buckeye nation, and so we’re keeping track of each trailer, all in one spot for you in case you missed any of them. It all started with the Minnesota game and goes through current. As each is released, we’ll add to this so we can reflect back if need be.

At the end of it all, we might even have everyone vote on which trailer was the best for the 2021 season, but hopefully, that includes a few more in the postseason.

So here we go, each and every Ohio State football trailer that’s been shared by the program’s creative team in 2021.

BOOM! Ohio State lands commitment top 2023 in-state offensive lineman

Ohio State lands its second recruit in the 2023 class.

Ohio State just landed its second recruit in the 2023 class. Four-star recruit, Joshua Padilla, let coaches know that he was verbally committing to the Buckeyes on Thursday afternoon.

Padilla is the top-rated interior offensive lineman in the state of Ohio and ranked the No. 9 overall lineman in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings. The youngster hails from Dayton and attends Huber Heights Wayne High School. He comes in at 6-foot, 4-inches and 265-pounds with room to grow.

Padilla chose the Buckeyes over other Big Ten and midwest rivals including Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Notre Dame. It’s always good when Ohio State can build a wall around the border and keep the best talent at home.

Padilla joins four-star tight end, Ty Lockwood as the Buckeye coaching staff looks to continue success on the recruiting trail and build another top 5 class.

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud added to the Maxwell Award watch list

Ohio State freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud was added to the Maxwell Award’s watch list this week. Semifinalists will be announced soon.

If we’re being honest, it was probably a bit overdue. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has been shredding opposing defenses and continues to climb up the Heisman odds and on the shortlist of best players in college football of many national outlets. He leads the nation in quarterback rating and is only getting better.

And now, for all of his work and production, Stroud has finally been added to the Maxwell Award’s watch list. He was left off of it in the preseason mainly because he was an unknown commodity, but now that he’s been throwing lasers around a football field with precision, he’s one of four Buckeyes appearing on the watch list for the award that goes to college football’s best all-around player. Stroud joins receivers Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave who were on the preseason watch list, and TreVeyon Henderson who was also added during the season.

Stroud was a former four-star prospect from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., He has completed 125-of-185 (64.8%) passes for 22 touchdowns and three interceptions so far this season. That includes 14 touchdowns and no interceptions in his last three starts. He leads the nation in quarterback rating (91.7) and is second in passing efficiency (192.8) and passing yards per attempt (10.6).

We’ll keep an eye on how things progress, but it’ll be quick. Semifinalists for the award will be announced this coming Monday, with the finalists will being named on Nov. 22. It’ll all culminate with the winner being announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 9.

Ohio State has had four winners of the Maxwell. Running back Howard “Hopalong” Cassady (1955), fullback Bob Ferguson (1961), running back Archie Griffin (1975), and running back Eddie George (1995) all took home the award.

E.J. Liddell named to Preseason All-Big Ten team

Do you think any Ohio State players were slighted with these selections by the media?

Believe it or not, hoops season is about to tip-off across this great country of ours, and that means Ohio State is ready to hit the hardwood. In fact, the Buckeyes have a scrimmage against Indianapolis at the Schott this coming Monday. From there, it’s just a little over a wee before OSU opens the season against Akron at home. So yeah, we’re going to be watching some hoops before you know it.

On Wednesday, to prepare for the 2021-2022 season, the Big Ten announced its preseason All-Big Ten team, and Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell was the lone Buckeye making the cut. He joined eleven other players across eight programs on the team. Liddell was one of just four players that were unanimous choices among the selection panel. Michigan, Illinois, and Purdue were the only programs with more than one selection, with two players each represented.

It also should be noted that Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn was named the conference’s Preseason Player of the Year.

Here’s a look at the entire 11-man Preseason All-Big Ten as chosen by a media panel.

Ferris Mowers Men’s basketball Coaches Preseason Poll is out. Where is Ohio State?

Do you agree with where Ohio State hoops is checking in at in the preseason polls?

The Ohio State football team is embattled in a Big Ten title run currently, but its counterpart on the hardwood will be breaking the seal on the season in only about a week and a half.

And you know the season is nigh when the preseason polls come out. We’ve already seen where the Buckeyes are in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, and Wednesday, the Ferris Mowers Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports came out with Ohio State checking in at No. 17.

It should be another exciting and tough Big Ten season again, and the poll shows that expectation with Michigan (No. 6), Purdue (No. 7), Illinois (No. 10), Ohio State, and Maryland (No. 21) all ranked inside the top 25. Michigan State just missed the cut.

It sure feels like an unpredictable year for the Buckeyes. There’s a lot of returning talent back — especially in the frontcourt — but with the loss of some players in the backcourt, a couple of guys nursing injuries, and new players via the transfer portal, it could all come together nicely, or end up being an experiment in roster management that never fully works.

Still, the team figures to be another NCAA Tournament one, so it should be fun to see how it all come together.

Here’s the rest of the Ferris Mowers Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

WATCH: Indiana head coach Tom Allen calls Ohio State ‘special football team offensively’ after game

Tom Allen called Ohio State a “special team offensively” after the game. Hear what else he said about the Buckeyes after the game.

The Ohio State football team continues to show impressive improvement on a week-to-week basis and it was no different in traveling on the road to take on Indiana. The Buckeyes raced out to a big lead and went into halftime ahead 44-7, effectively ending any chances of the Hoosiers making a game of it.

If you wondered what Indiana head coach Tom Allen thought about Ohio State after seeing the Buckeyes up close and personal, we can tell you that he was impressed. He started his press conference out discussing how big the loss of his starting quarterback Jack Tuttle was, but was also honest with himself and heaped praise on how challenging it is to stop the OSU offense.

He stopped short of saying the Buckeyes were the best offense he’s seen but started to go there. He called Ohio State a “special football team offensively” and praised the play of C.J. Stroud.

Allen had some other things to say and we’re sharing them with you here thanks to “TheHoosier” YouTube Channel.

Ohio State will now turn its attention to a matchup with Penn State at night in the ‘Shoe next week. Things start to get very interesting from here on out, but it was a great showing once again Saturday night.

Big Ten football power rankings after week 8: What’s for real, and what’s not?

After another week in the Big Ten, where does each team stand in our latest power rankings?

Another week of Big Ten football play is in the books, and while only ten of the fourteen teams were in action, we still saw a lot that’s had us re-think the power rankings for this week.

It’s beginning to look more and more like the king of the conference is still the king of the conference and that the biggest threat might be an old rival from up north. But where do the rest of the teams stand? Who is No. 1, and who can contend with the top dog of the league? Where have we seen improvement, and which teams are regressing?

Let’s get after it. Here are the latest Big Ten football power rankings after Week 8 of the college football season.

Texas DB Tyler Owens enters NCAA transfer portal

After never consistently cracking the lineup, junior defensive back Tyler Owens has decided to enter his name into the transfer portal.

Texas is starting to experience some midseason roster changes, as junior defensive back Tyler Owens has decided to enter his name into the transfer portal.

The move was reported by Inside Texas on Friday. Owens has not had quite the impact as a Longhorn that he or the fan base were expecting. The former four-star prospect out of Plano, Texas has accumulated 13 total tackles and one start in his three seasons in Austin.

Owens has made a total of 27 appearances throughout his collegiate career, and was unable to crack a spot in the rotation this season. He saw limited action in five games making a couple tackles.

When he first committed, he was known for his elite speed. However, he was unable to find the field due to the safety spot being quite full. During this past offseason, he teased Twitter hinting that he may make the switch to linebacker like DeMarvion Overhsown did, but that never seemed to come to fruition.

Coming out of high school, Owens held 15 offers from schools such as Baylor, Houston, Nebraska, and UCLA. There are currently no predictions as to where he may continue his playing career at this point.

Players can choose to withdraw their name from the transfer portal, but for someone like Owens who does have immense potential and has rather found himself buried on the depth chart, that likely won’t happen.
