Where Does Arkansas fall into the Sweet 16 Reseeding by ESPN?

Now that the Sweet 16 field has been set, where does the SEC’s only remaining team rank among team’s still competing for a championship?

The dust has settled, and with Purdue’s defeat of Texas on Sunday night, the Sweet 16 field has been set. One name that is still alive in the hunt for a National Championship is the Arkansas Razorbacks.

On Monday, ESPN’s Myron Medcalf re-seeded the remaining 16 teams in the field. Where does Arkansas fit in the picture? In what has become the norm, the Razorbacks are not being highly thought of, as they check it at No. 13 of 16 teams.

Here is Medcalf’s synopsis of Arkansas’ round of 32 win over New Mexico State on Saturday:

Arkansas and New Mexico State played Saturday’s ugliest game. JD Notae (18 points) led a Razorbacks team that made just 28% of its field goal attempts. Its two advantages? A 12-0 edge in transition and a 22-for-25 mark from the free-throw line. Per ESPN Stats & Info data, Arkansas’ 53 points were the lowest tally ever for an SEC team that won an NCAA tournament game. Arkansas is now 17-3 in its past 20 games, though.

Ahead of Thursday’s matchup with No. 1 seed Gonzaga in San Francisco, Calif., Medcalf says that Arkansas should hope that the Bulldogs do not play up to their ceiling:

It is no small feat to hold the WAC’s top offensive team — or any Division I team, really — to 48 points. It is difficult, however, to go on a run in the NCAA tournament with limited 3-point shooting (30.5% this season). But most of Arkansas’ opponents have failed to play to their potential during the Razorbacks’ current rally. Maybe that’s their ticket: counting on being the superior team in a grind-it-out Sweet 16 matchup

Following No. 10 seed Miami’s defeat of No. 2 Auburn on Sunday, Arkansas remains the only team from the Southeastern Conference to still have a shot at a National Championship. That run will be put on the line Thursday vs. No. 1 seed Gonzaga.

Brandon Allen and the Bengals Move On to AFC Divisional Round

The Razorback QB is enjoying the ride as the Bengals continue to make history.

One ex-Razorback’s NFL season stays alive with a last-second field goal.

Former Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen and the Cincinnati Bengals advance to the AFC Divisional Round by knocking off the Tennessee Titans, 19-16, on a chilly Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.

One week after winning their first playoff game since 1990, the Bengals earned another win thanks in part to a 52-yard field goal at the buzzer by rookie kicker Evan McPherson, which was the most important of his four made field goals of the game.

Although not appearing in the game, Allen is a part of one of the most special Bengals teams in recent memory. Saturday’s win over the Titans marks the first time that the Bengals have won at least two playoff games since 1988.

Allen has completed 107 passes for 1,074 yards and seven touchdowns in two seasons with the Bengals, playing in 11 total games. In his five-year career, Allen has seen the most field time with Cincinnati. Allen appeared in only three games with the Denver Broncos in 2019, and in zero games between 2016-2018 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams.

Former Alabama LB Drew Sanders announces transfer destination

The rising junior LB will continue playing elsewhere in the SEC West.

Former Alabama linebacker Drew Sanders was one of numerous members of the 2021 Crimson Tide team that announced their entrances into the NCAA transfer portal. Sanders did not spend much time in the portal, as he has already announced where he will be heading.

Sanders will continue playing in the SEC West at the University of Arkansas, he said on Twitter.

The rising junior spent two seasons under Nick Saban at Alabama and accumulated 33 total tackles, two passes defended and a lone sack.

Many were surprised when Sanders entered the portal, seeing as he was expected to step into a lead role in 2022.

WATCH: Bryce Young outsmarts defense, scores first points of second half

Alabama strikes first in the third quarter with some creativity.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is having himself an amazing day against the Arkansas Razorbacks. That touchdown extended Alabama’s lead to 31-14.

He threw touchdown No. 4 on the day very early in the second half. This one was only an 11-yard score to Christian Leary, but it was how the play progressed that makes it amazing.

Young evaded pressure and avoided being sacked, and ultimate found Leary standing all alone at the line of scrimmage near the sideline.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Crimson Tide as they look to earn a spot in the SEC Championship game in a win over Arkansas.

What are the statistical chances Alabama is upset by Arkansas?

Numbers have been crunched, what are the chances the Razorbacks can upset the Crimson Tide?

In the latest College Football Playoff rankings, Alabama was listed as the nation’s second-best team, falling just behind fellow SEC member, Georgia. With two weeks left in the regular season, the Crimson Tide still need to lock up a spot in the SEC Championship to face the Bulldogs, a game that will likely decide whether Saban and the program will have the opportunity to play for national championship No. 19.

This week, Alabama takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks.

ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index), which ranks teams based on mathematical strength, puts a statistical chance for each team to win the game.

Arkansas, ranked No. 21, is barely given a chance, according to the numbers.

Alabama has a 92.6% chance to win the game, leaving the Razorbacks with a measly 7.4% chance to upset the Crimson Tide.

One week following this game will be the Iron Bowl, which should make for an interesting matchup, as Auburn quarterback Bo Nix is out with injury and first-year head coach Bryan Harsin will look to prove he is capable of putting up a four-quarter fight against Nick Saban.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Crimson Tide as the team prepares to take on Arkansas this Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

Why Arkansas’ win over Texas meant everything to Razorback fans

The Razorbacks beating the Longhorns on Saturday gave Hog fans a much deserved reason to celebrate like they never have before.

I arrived at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium at 6am on Saturday morning.

My friends and I began setting up a tailgate in Lot 44 right outside the north side of the stadium. Right in the grassy area next to an empty Hog Town on Maple Street. It was dark, cool, and quiet. We set up tents, put out chairs, fired up the smoker, made sure the Yeti’s had plenty of ice, and had the drinks on the table ready for pouring.

It started out as a normal tailgate for us. But as soon as the sun came up and Hog fans began filtering onto campus, what we had hoped for soon became confirmed:

Saturday was going to be a great day to be a Razorback fan.

You could just feel it in the air. All week this game had been hyped up by myself and other in sports talk radio. All offseason, every Razorback fan circled this game as the key to a successful season. This was it. This was the game where Sam Pittman and Arkansas can finally show all of College Football that they aren’t a Cinderella story anymore. That they are a legit program that can compete in the SEC.

I talked to Hog fans all day long about what this game meant to them. Every single fan felt confident that they would beat Texas that day. Not because of matchups, coaching philosophies, or even talent levels of either team.

Hog fans just wanted it more.

They wore their hatred for Texas on their sleeve all week long. Touting to everyone that would hear them about why they hate Texas and all things burnt orange. Throwing “horns down” to any and every fan (Razorback or Longhorn) that they saw while walking around the stadium. Arkansas fans wanted to beat Texas as badly as they wanted to breathe.

The energy was building all week long, but Saturday came around the energy turned up to an 11 and built even more. Once the flyover happened during the National Anthem on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Razorback Stadium was at a fever pitch. Kickoff for the most anticipated game in over a decade had finally arrived in Fayetteville.

Only this time, the Hogs didn’t disappoint.

Arkansas dominated Texas in every part of the game. The Hog offense consistently ran it down Texas’ throat. The Hog defense didn’t give up the big plays and made the Longhorns earn every yard. Even the special teams made plays and went four for four on field goal attempts. It was an all out party in Razorback Stadium and no one left early. Well…except Longhorn fans.

Once the clock hit zero, fans added the cherry on top of a great night by rushing the field. At first I wasn’t keen on the idea, but after being a part of that incredible day in Fayetteville, I changed my mind. It was an emotional ending that had some Hog fans crying tears of joy when it was all said and done. Even I started getting a little teary eyed when I saw the reaction of roughly 76,000 Razorback fans in celebration.

You deserved that Hog fans. You deserved every second of what happened last Saturday. You have been through hell and back as a football fanbase over the past decade. You kept trying to put your faith in coaches and administrators that promised you one thing but did another. You were mocked by national pundits on the regular because of how embarrassing your football team was. It was gut wrenching to see how pathetic your once proud Razorback football program be dragged through the mud year after year.

That all came to an end Saturday against Texas. You’re no longer the butt of every college football joke. You’re now the team that other teams don’t want to play. No team is circling the Razorbacks as an easy win the SEC. They are worried about what the Hogs are capable of if they really get going this season. The Hogs have a long way to go this season, but it could not have gotten off to a better start. I can’t wait to see what Arkansas does once SEC play arrives. It’s going to be one heck of a ride all the way into November.

Soak it in Razorback fans. You’ve earned this feeling.

Alabama travels to Arkansas for Top-10 SEC Showdown

The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide looks to build off of their successful weekend series against Texas A&M by traveling to No. 10 Arkansas.

The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide looks to build off of their successful weekend series against Texas A&M one week ago, by traveling to Fayetteville, Ark. for a weekend slate at No. 10 Arkansas.

The Tide welcomes the challenge that Arkansas brings after taking down Texas A&M last weekend in Tuscaloosa, two of those games were decided via the run-rule. Bailey Hemphill and Lexy Kilfoyl were honored by the Southeastern Conference for player of the week, and newcomer of the week awards respectively.

The Hogs have stormed to the top of the SEC by posting a perfect 12-0 record in league play through the season’s first four conference series. Arkansas has swept South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Auburn prior to this weekend’s series against Alabama.

In their most recent SEC series, Arkansas outscored Auburn 11-1 last weekend on the Plains. The Razorbacks set the table in the opener by downing the Tigers, 6-1 behind Braxton Burnside’s three-run home run in the 5th inning. Autumn Storms and Jenna Bloom combined to strike out 12 Tigers while only allowing 7 hits over the final two games in the circle to shut out Auburn and sweep the series.

The Razorbacks bring a very aggressive style of play at the plate. Arkansas leads the conference in home runs with 69, which is 17 more than the next team (Missouri- 52).

A stat that stacks well with Alabama pitching, is strikeouts. The Razorbacks have struck out a league-leading 175 times, while Tide pitching has struck out a league leading 270.

The Tide will be the toughest SEC opponent to date, as the only other ranked team that the Razorbacks have taken down in conference play was South Carolina, who was ranked no. 20 at the time and has yet to win an SEC game to this point. The toughest league team that Arkansas has faced this season was Ole Miss, who sits at sixth place in the SEC with a 6-6 record, while the other teams that the Razorbacks have faced have combined to win just one SEC game.

No. 4 Alabama travels to No. 10 Arkansas for a three-game series at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Ark.

Game One- Friday at 6 P.M. CT

Game Two- Saturday at 11 A.M. CT (ESPN2)

Game Three- Sunday at 1 P.M. CT

REPORT: Alabama LB questionable to return vs. Arkansas

Alabama LB Christian Harris was injured on the game’s first play and escorted to the locker room after an awkward landing on his shoulder

Alabama sophomore linebacker Christian Harris has been a big time playmaker for the Crimson Tide defense.

On the first play of the game, Harris went to make a tackle and landed awkwardly on his shoulder.

He was slow to get up and could be seen grabbing his shoulder.

Running off the field on his own power, Harris was escorted to the Alabama locker room.

Reports from ESPN say Harris is questionable to return due to a shoulder injury.

With plenty of time left, if the injury is not serious, there is a strong chance Harris returns late in the contest.

Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated on Harris’ injury and all things Alabama football as they continue to take on Arkansas.

Arkansas making a push for 2021 Texas quarterback commit Milroe

Arkansas recently met with 2021 QB Jalen Milroe. Meeting with CB coach Sam Carter, Milroe was “impressed” with Arkansas after speaking.

According to Richard Davenport of WholeHogSports.com, Arkansas recently met with long-time Texas commit and 2021 four-star quarterback Jalen Milroe. Meeting with Hog’s cornerback coach Sam Carter, Milroe was “impressed” with Arkansas after speaking with him.

He was also informed that the Razorbacks would be offering him a scholarship, extending his list of offers. Recently hiring former Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman, the rebuild of Arkansas has already begun.

You can read the full story from the Arkansas perspective, here.

Milore had an incredible junior season at Thompson High School in Katy, TX, winning the District 19-6A MVP. Listed as a dual-threat quarterback on 247Sports, Milroe threw for 2,689 yards with 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while also rushing for 378 yards and eight touchdowns. Add in his 4.6 speed and he will be something special if he stays committed to the Longhorns.

Having offers from other big time schools like Alabama, Florida, Nebraska, and Oregon, Milroe is a wanted man. He has been a huge foundation piece for the Longhorns in building the 2021 class. Losing Milroe would be a huge loss for Texas and they must keep him committed.

UT News: November 13, 2019

Welcome to a hump day edition of UT News! The men’s basketball team got a bit of a scare last night, but still managed to emerge victorious against the Murray State Racers. The sports scene around Rocky Top was otherwise quiet, though two major announcements were made for a couple of very deserving members of Vols nation.

Rennia Davis named SEC Player of the Week

Junior wingwoman Rennia Davis was named SEC Player of the Week Tuesday morning, the second time she has earned the honor in her career.

Leading the Lady Vols to a 3-0 start, Davis has averaged 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 44 percent and 43 percent from the field and behind the arc, respectively. She has managed two double-doubles in three games, bringing her collegiate total to 20 — that ties her for 16th all-time at Tennessee.

Davis exploded against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Monday night, dropping 33 points and grabbing 10 boards in an impressive win for the Vols against a ranked team. That tremendous performance likely clinched the decision to hand her the award.
