UFC on ESPN 52 medical suspensions: Headliners, Bobby Green among 12 fighters facing 180 days off

A dozen UFC Austin competitors including Arman Tsarukyan, Beneil Dariush, and Bobby Green have been given lengthy suspensions by Texas.

UFC on ESPN 52 took place Saturday at Moody Center in Austin, Texas and featured a dozen fights.

Of the 24 competitors on the card, 12 fighters were suspended 180 days due to injuries sustained in their bouts, according to documentation from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the commissioning body that oversaw the event.

Among those who received the lengthiest suspensions are both sides of the main event, Arman Tsarukyan and Beneil Dariush, as well as co-main eventer Bobby Green.

The TDLR does not reveal injury specifics, just the duration of the suspensions. Fighters are permitted to return to competition prior to the conclusion of their suspension durations should they be cleared by a doctor beforehand.

Heavyweight [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag] and bantamweight [autotag]Aljamain Sterling[/autotag] both captured UFC titles in 2021 with lead-up preparation at Xtreme Couture.

[autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] emerged as a top middleweight contender with back-to-back wins over Krzysztof Jotko and Uriah Hall, and [autotag]Casey O’Neill[/autotag] skyrocketed up the women’s flyweight rankings with three straight victories. With Anthony Hernandez out, Brendan Allen to face Puna Soriano at UFC Fight Night on July 24

Anthony Hernandez has been forced out of UFC Fight Night on June 26 and Allen (16-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) will step in to face [autotag]Puna Soriano[/autotag] (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in a new scheduled date on July 24.

A person with knowledge of the booking told MMA Junkie on Wednesday. They asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. MMA Fighting was first to report the news.

Allen, a former LFA middleweight champion, has won eight of his past nine. After getting stopped by Sean Strickland for his first UFC loss in November, he rebounded with a first-round ankle lock submission of Karl Roberson at UFC 261 in April.

The undefeated Soriano, who punched his ticket to the UFC on Dana White’s Contender Series, is off to a hot start in the octagon. He is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts of Oskar Piechota and most recently Dusko Todorovic at UFC on ABC 1 in January.

With the addition, the UFC’s July 24 lineup now includes:

UFC on ABC 1 medical suspensions: Calvin Kattar, Justin Tafa face lengthy time off

UFC on ABC 1 headliner Calvin Kattar absorbed 445 significant strikes over the span of 25 minutes.

Atop the list of lengthiest post-fight suspensions is headliner [autotag]Calvin Kattar[/autotag], who endured a high volume of punishment from former UFC featherweight champion [autotag]Max Holloway[/autotag] in the card’s main event. Kattar (22-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) received a 180-day suspension for a broken nose, but can return sooner if cleared by a doctor.

MMA Junkie on Monday obtained the full list of suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com, the Association of Boxing Commissions’ official record keeper.

Tyson Chartier, Kattar’s manager and head coach, told MMA Junkie on Sunday that in addition to a broken nose suffered in the unanimous decision loss, his fighter also received eight staples in his head.

His opponent, Holloway (22-6 MMA, 18-6 UFC) walked away relatively unscathed, and received a 30-day suspension for a “hard bout.”

Only one fighter from the event’s undercard was handed as lengthy of a suspension as Kattar. Preliminary card competitor and UFC heavyweight [autotag]Justin Tafa[/autotag] also received a potential 180-day suspension. Tafa (4-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) suffered a split decision loss to Brazil’s [autotag]Carlos Felipe[/autotag].

The Australian will have to sit on the sidelines for the six-month duration, or until his left thumb is cleared by a doctor.
