Top Notre Dame recruit to visit Pac 12 powerhouse

Does he ultimately end up at Notre Dame?

Raise your hand if you’ve heard this before.

Notre Dame has a five-star recruit committed to the program!

…and that five-star recruit is taking another visit elsewhere.

That’s simply the way college football recruiting works these days but it happens again this weekend as Notre Dame’s top-ranked pledge in the 2023 recruiting class is going on the road this weekend.

[autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag], fresh off an epic night that featured a flat-out ridiculous punt return for a touchdown on national TV, will head to Oregon as the Ducks host UCLA in a top-ten showdown Saturday.

Bowen has been a Notre Dame commitment since New Year’s Day but has remained linked to both Oklahoma and Texas A&MOregon isn’t even listed as a possible school according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, but anytime a commitment takes a visit elsewhere, official or not, you can’t help but wonder how strong that commitment is.

Stay tuned as Notre Dame has its work clearly cut out in order to keep their top commitment in the 2023 class.

College football recruiting: Twitter reacts to Notre Dame commit’s crazy punt return

Did you catch this mega-highlight Thursday night? If so, what was your reaction?

When I went with my family to our favorite pizza joint Thursday night I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had ESPN2’s coverage of the Denton (Guyer) versus Allen showdown on one of their televisions.  As I was chasing my too-highly-energized-after-8 p.m. toddler around the nearly empty room, we finally found peace when sitting at the bar (father of the year, I know).

We couldn’t have had better timing because in the few minutes we sat nearest the TV, Notre Dame commitment [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag], a five-star safety from Guyer, had an all-time punt return.  I reacted with a “holy —-” that I’m glad the toddler didn’t immediately repeat, but based on Twitter my reaction was hardly unique.

Here are some of the best tweets in reaction to Bowen’s incredible punt return.

Watch: Notre Dame commitment’s insane punt return on national TV

Best play you’ll see all weekend even if it happened on a Thursday.

Current Notre Dame commitment, five-star safety [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] has seen his stock rise in the recruiting ranks in recent months.  He was ranked as a four-star talent when he announced his commitment on New Year’s Day and has only enhanced his ranking since.

If he ends up with Notre Dame remains to be seen as Oklahoma and Texas A&M are both charging hard for his talents and his commitment hasn’t been the strongest in public.

Thursday night saw Bowen and his Denton (Guyer) teammates playing on a national stage as ESPN2 showed their contest against in-state Allen.  Before some of you try to downplay this let’s get ahead of it and let you know that Allen is a Texas football power, was ranked 67th in the entire nation according to Max Preps, and had just one loss entering play, that coming in Week 1 against the team Max Preps has rated top nationally at the time and has fourth in their most recent rankings, Bellflower (St. John Bosco, Calif.).

Guyer just happens to be rated 16th and showed why Thursday night, routing Allen 49-7.

Bowen had a punt return for a touchdown in the contest that brought back memories of [autotag]Tom Zbikowski[/autotag] for Notre Dame fans of a certain age.  Take a look at this:

That is prime time and having already lost five-star [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag]’s commitment, keeping a ridiculous talent like Bowen’s is a top-priority as we near the finish line to the 2023 recruiting cycle.

5-star Notre Dame commit to take official visit to Oregon for UCLA game

Big-time visit incoming for Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

A couple of weeks ago, Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning said that he expected the visitor list of recruits would be pretty big for the top-10 showdown against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday.

While the list was long, it lacked the massive star power, outside of a few Oregon commits and blue-chip 2024 and 2025 prospects.

That changed on Thursday night, though. Now it has some star power.

According to a report from On3, 5-star ND commit Peyton Bowen will be heading to Eugene this weekend for an official visit. Bowen committed to the Fighting Irish on January 1 of this year and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 safety in the 2023 class, and the No. 24 overall player in the nation.

It’s unclear whether he is considering a flip in his commitment, but the fact that the Ducks are even getting him on campus is certainly a big deal.

Ohio State is trying to flip 2023 Notre Dame commit after scholarship offer

Not great

There is blood in the water and there is a feeling that plenty of schools will be looking to flip current Notre Dame commits. There have already been four decommits for the 2023 cycle for the Irish ([autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag], [autotag]Justyn Rhett[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah Paige[/autotag] and [autotag]Sedrick Irvin Jr.[/autotag]) and there is potential for more.

There are rumors that multiple teams are looking to flip the current highest rated Irish commit, safety [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag]. Now it looks like [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is going to have to keep Ohio State away from one of Notre Dame’s other commits. Today, the Buckeyes offered a scholarship to [autotag]Adon Shuler[/autotag], the New Jersey safety.

If you look through his recent activity on Twitter, most of it has ben pro Notre Dame, including visiting with former Irish star safety [autotag]Kyle Hamilton[/autotag]. There was however a retweet of fellow New Jersey star Vaboue Toure’s offer from Ohio State. Toure is a 2024 prospect but high school teammates with Shuler.

It’s hard to read into that retweet, Shuler could very well be just being happy for his teammate. Unfortunately, the saying, when there’s smoke, there’s a fire could apply here. Time will tell if Shuler is actually considering flipping to Ohio State, but the Buckeyes officially offering the Irish commit is a bit troubling.

5-Star DL David Hicks’ commitment signals that the Aggies aren’t done yet

5-Star DL David Hicks’ commitment signals that the Aggies aren’t done yet

The Aggies 2023 recruiting class received some beyond fantastic news on Wednesday, as the top-ranked defensive lineman in the class, David Hicks out of Katy, Texas committed to Texas A&M, beating out the Oklahoma Sooners who were the presumed favorites according to multiple recruiting outlets going into his announcement.

Hicks’ commitment comes almost exactly two months after Top-20 ranked linebacker Anthony hill pledged his commitment to the maroon and white on July 30th, and through various social media posts, Hill, and a number of current 2023 Aggie commits are pledging to do whatever they can to help the class continue to grow, and maybe, just maybe, flip a couple of well-known recruits in the process. Take this beautiful tweet from recruiting insider AggiesToday as a sign:

Three names to keep an eye on: Notre Dame commit, safety Peyton Bowen, Alabama commit, safety Tony Mitchell, and Texas commit, safety Malik Muhammad, as both Bowen and Mitchell unofficially visited the Aggies on Sept. 17th during the Miami game, both witnessing a dominating defensive performance in a 17-9 victory. Malik Muhammad will officially visit College Station on Oct. 29th to attend the Aggies matchup vs. Ole Miss in their return to Kyle Field.

The lesson here for those who were upset about the “slow” recruiting process in the last couple months is that patience is the only path, and winning on the field does help more than you know. Gig ’em, and BTHO Mississippi State and the 2023 recruiting class.

Is Ohio State trying to flip Notre Dame commits and more recruiting news

Interesting news here….

The Irish faced off against Ohio State in the season opener and it didn’t go as many of us would have liked, with Notre Dame falling 21-10 to the Buckeyes in Columbus. Not only were there ramifications on the field but off them as well, specifically on the recruiting trail. Both Midwest powers go after plenty of the same prospects so it would make sense if the Irish or Buckeyes would try and take each other’s prospects.

247Sports recruiting guru Bill Kurelic recently broached the topic of the Buckeyes trying to flip some Irish commits (subscription required) and here are the details of the report.

Oklahoma 5-star QB commit Jackson Arnold and Denton Guyer are in action Friday night vs. Prosper, here’s how you can check out the action.

Oklahoma five-star quarterback commit Jackson Arnold is off to a tremendous start to his senior season with Denton Guyer.

After helping Guyer reach the Texas state championship game in his first season as a starter, Arnold is averaging four total touchdowns per game. Arnold has completed 65% of his passes for 832 yards, 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He leads Guyer in rushing with 133 yards on 16 attempts with three rushing touchdowns.

Guyer is 3-0 on the season and outscoring their opponents by an average score of 47-18. Up next is the 3-0 Prosper Eagles. Prosper holds wins over Euless Trinity, Sacshe, and Rockwell to start the season.

This Friday night, you can watch Jackson Arnold and teammates Ryan Yaites and Peyton Bowen take on Prosper via WFAA’a YouTube channel or on WFAA+ live at 7 p.m. central time.

Jackson Arnold was the first player in the 2023 recruiting class to commit to the Oklahoma Sooners after the arrival of Brent Venables. Since January, he’s only seen his status grow after winning Elite 11 MVP honors and earning consensus five-star status.

Friday night provides a fantastic opportunity to see a future Oklahoma Sooner and other top players in the state of Texas in action.

Oklahoma five-star QB commit Jackson Arnold dazzles in first game of season

In the first game of his senior season, five-star QB commit Jackson Arnold puts on a show throwing for 3 touchdowns and running for another.

After an entire off-season that saw him go from a four-star quarterback prospect to five-star status and a commitment to the University of Oklahoma, Jackson Arnold finally took to the field Thursday evening to kick off the final season of his high school career. It was a dominant effort from him and his Denton Guyer team, who have state championship aspirations again after going to the state title game the last two years.

Arnold put on a clinic showing off the dual-threat ability that was incredibly enticing to Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. Arnold threw for three touchdowns and used his legs to take a zone read 64 yards to the house for a fourth touchdown as Denton Guyer cruised to a 47-14 win over Rockwall Heath.

One of Arnold’s touchdown throws went to 2024 recruit Eli Bowen, a two-way player for Guyer who is also being recruited by Oklahoma and is the younger brother of 2023 safety recruit Peyton Bowen, who the Sooners have been trying to flip from Notre Dame for months.
