Oregon signee Jackson Shelstad is turning heads at Nike Hoops Summit

Jackson Shelstad has all of the scouts talking at the Nike Hoops Summit, with some declaring him the best player on the floor.

He may technically be the lowest-rated player in the Oregon Ducks’ 2023 signing class, but it’s hard to find any player who will come to Eugene shouldering higher expectations than West Linn senior Jackson Shelstad.

The 4-star point guard has been a tour de force over the past several months, grabbing headlines throughout the high school basketball season and inching his way up the national recruiting rankings, where he now sits at No. 32 nationally. This past week at the Nike Hoops’ Summit in Portland, Oregon, Shelstad is once again making waves and dropping the jaws of many in attendance. Some are even questioning his national ranking, assured that he belongs in the conversation among the best players in the 2023 class.

With a star-studded group of players in Portland this weekend that includes Omaha Biliew (No. 11 player), Isaiah Collier (No. 1 player), Bronny James (No. 33 player), Jared McCain (No. 15 player), and Ja’Kobe Walter (No. 21 player), the fact that Shelstad is making the most noise is impressive.

Here’s some of the biggest buzz that we’ve seen on social media.

5-star CB Kobe Black puts Oregon Ducks among top schools

5-star CB Kobe Black, the No. 15 player in 2024, has Oregon among his top schools.

The Oregon Ducks continue to put themselves in a great spot when it comes to the recruitment of some of the top players in the nation, particularly in the defensive backfield.

On Thursday afternoon, 5-star cornerback Kobe Black announced his top 11 schools, including the Ducks alongside schools like Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and others.

Black is among the top players in the 2024 class, rated by 247Sports as the No. 15 overall player in the class, and the No. 2 CB in the nation.

Black has yet to take a visit to Oregon, but we will likely see him make his way out to Eugene in the coming months as he continues to narrow down his recruitment and ultimately make a decision.

We’ve seen Oregon’s recruiting of cornerbacks and defensive backs soar under the tutelage of coach Demetrice Martin, and Black could be another player to add to the group.

Brandon Baker becomes latest 5-star to announce Oregon visit for Ducks spring game

Brandon Baker becomes latest 5-star to announce Oregon visit for Ducks spring game

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks continue to build what is becoming one of the most impressive recruiting visit lists we’ve ever seen in Eugene for the annual spring game at the end of April.

The latest player to join the mix is 5-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker, a player who has been incredibly high on the Ducks over the past year. Baker is rated by 247Sports as the No. 23 player in the 2024 class, and No. 1 overall tackle.

Baker is now the sixth 5-star player to schedule a visit for Oregon’s spring game, joining QB Dylan Raiola, S K.J. Bolden, EDGE Elijah Rushing, EDGE Collin Simmons, and S Xavier Filsaime.

4-star WR Jeremiah McClellan puts Ducks among top teams

The Ducks are in the mix for 4-star WR Jeremiah McClellan, who was in Eugene for a visit earlier this year.

The Oregon Ducks are in the mix with one of the better wide receiver prospects in the 2024 class, landing among the top 12 schools for 4-star WR Jeremiah McClellan.

McClellan, the No. 142 player in the 2024 class and No. 24 WR, announced his top 12 schools on Monday, keeping the Ducks in the mix with teams like Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Michigan, and Oklahoma, among others.

McClellan took a visit to Eugene earlier this year and reportedly enjoyed his time. We will see if Oregon can figure out a way to stay in the mix down the road, but having one of the projected top recievers in the nation this year, Troy Franklin, will be a major selling point.

The 10 most important storylines to watch as spring football resumes for Oregon

Spring football resumes in a few days for Oregon. Here are the biggest storylines to watch as the Ducks get back to work.

We are just a few days away from the end of spring break, which will see the Oregon Ducks return to the gridiron and resume spring practices after a short hiatus.

Earlier in March, we got to see a pair of practices from Dan Lanning and Co., giving fans a quick glimpse at some of the newest faces on the team, a handful of returning players, and a couple of the most notable position battles taking part across the roster. We also saw several new coaches getting their feet wet in Eugene, including new offensive coordinator Will Stein, safeties coach Chris Hampton, and offensive line coach A’lique Terry.

While the first two practices acted as a nice appetizer before the two-week break, now we can really get into the meat of the spring season leading up to the annual spring game on April 29 in Autzen Stadium.

In order to make sure we are prepared and ready to dive back into the spring football season, I wanted to dust off some storylines and update everyone on what to be watching for in the coming weeks. With practice starting on April 4, and going Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday throughout the month, there will be a ton to talk about.

Here’s what I will be paying attention to the most.

5-star Elijah Rushing, No. 8 player in 2024, to visit Oregon for Spring Game

Add EDGE Elijah Rushing to the list of 5-star players who will be in Eugene for the Oregon Ducks spring game on April 29.

The list of blue-chip prospects who will be in Eugene for the annual Oregon Ducks spring game is starting to get incredibly long.

Already, a total of five 5-star players have confirmed that they will be in town, with 5-star EDGE Elijah Rushing being the latest to do so. Rushing confirmed to me on Friday morning that he plans to be in Eugene for the spring game. Max Torres with Ducks Digest had the first report.

Rushing has made a number of visits to Eugene over the past several years, including a couple in the last calendar year. He is rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 1 EDGE rusher. Per the 247Sports Composite, he sits at No. 19 in the nation, and No. 3 at EDGE in 2024.

Rushing will be joined by 5-star QB Dylan Raiola, 5-star S K.J. Bolden, 5-star EDGE Colin Simmons, and reportedly 5-star S Xavier Filsaime, per 247Sports Steve Wiltfong (paid).

5-star EDGE Colin Simmons to visit Eugene for Oregon Spring Game

5-star EDGE Colin Simmons — the No. 3 overall player in the 2024 class — will be in Eugene for the Spring Game.

The Oregon Ducks are quickly adding to their list of 5-star players who will be in attendance for the annual spring game in Eugene on April 29.

On Friday morning, 5-star EDGE Colin Simmons announced that he would be in town for a visit, making it a total of five 5-star players, so far, who have confirmed that they will be checking out the Ducks that weekend.

Simmons will join QB Dylan Railoa, S K.J. Bolden, and EDGE Elijah Rushing. 257Sports’ Steve Wiltfong also reported on Friday that 5-star safety Xavier Filsaime will be in Eugene for the Spring Game as well.

Simmons is rated in the 247Sports Composite as the No. 3 overall player in the 2024  class, and the No. 1 EDGE. Per 247Sports, he is the No. 20 overall player, and No. 4 EDGE.

He was supposed to take a visit to Eugene last summer, but it ended up falling through.

Ducks land among top schools for 5-star Xavier Filsaime

The Ducks landed among the top schools for 5-star Xavier Filsaime, the No. 2 safety in the 2024 class.

The Oregon Ducks are continuing their strong push in the 2024 recruiting class, this time landing as one of the top schools for a 5-star defender who has generated a lot of buzz in the recruiting world.

5-star safety Xavier Filsaime listed the Ducks as one of this top 5 schools, along with USC, Georgia, LSU, and Florida. Filsaime is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 32 overall player in the class of 2024, and the No. 2 safety in the nation.

He has yet to take a visit to Oregon, but that will likely change in the coming months as he continues to narrow down his recruitment.

At the moment, the Ducks have the No. 8 ranked class in 2024, and they are set up in a great spot going forward, with a number of highly-rated players coming to Eugene over the next several weeks.

Watch: 4-star Oregon target Bronny James impresses at McDonald’s dunk contest

Bronny James impressed at the McDonald’s All-American game dunk contest, to no one’s surprise.

The Oregon Ducks 2023 signing class is already incredibly impressive as is, with a pair of 5-star commits — Kwame Evans and Mookie Cook — and 4-star PG Jackson Shelstand set to join the team in the coming months.

There’s a chance that class could get even better, as well. 4-star guard Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, yet to announce his commitment. He has the Ducks listed as one of his final schools, and will likely take a visit to Eugene in the coming months.

On Monday night, James got to show off a bit of his athleticism at the McDonald’s All-American Game dunk contest, where he displayed the family genes well. Here are some of the best dunks and best reactions from the night on social media.
