Florida football’s 2024 recruiting class still in On3’s top 10

With early signing period right at the doorstep, here’s where the Gators rank among the top schools in the nation.

College football’s early signing period, the start of which has become a major event in recent years, begins on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Schools around the nation will be accepting the signatures of their top recruits as the up-and-coming student-athletes make their final decision on their collegiate destination.

Among the teams champing at the bit to get across the finish line are the Florida Gators, who saw one of their five-star commits, safety Xavier Filsaime, flip to the Texas Longhorns on Monday. The sooner Billy Napier and Co. can get the ink on the paper, the better.

Ahead of the big day, Florida is still among the top 10 teams in On3’s 2024 industry ranking, sitting at No. 8 between the seventh-ranked Oregon Ducks and ninth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The Orange and Blue have two On3 five-stars, 10 four-stars and seven three-stars for a total of 19 commits; UF received a 91.944 recruiting score.

The Gators’ 2024 class is headlined by its two five-star recruits, Willis (Texas) quarterback DJ Lagway and Daytona Beach, (Florida) Mainland defensive lineman LJ McCray — both of whom made On3’s top 25 recruits list.

Florida loses 5-star commit, this time flipped to Texas

Another huge loss for Florida football’s 2024 recruiting class.

The inevitable finally happened on Monday afternoon when five-star safety [autotag]Xavier Filsaime[/autotag] out of McKinney (Texas) in the 2024 recruiting cycle flipped from the Florida Gators to the Texas Longhorns.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pound defender gave his word to the Orange and Blue back in April but after yet another losing season in Gainesville, Filsaime chose what he believes will be a better situation for him.

“Knowing my future would be stable and the opportunities outside of football,” he said, according to On3. “Probably one of my hardest decisions ever because I have lots of love for everyone over (at Florida).”

He hosted the Longhorns twice in the past two weeks at home while also making an official visit to Austin last weekend. Head coach Billy Napier along with defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and new hire Will Harris saw him last Wednesday, but it was not enough to keep the talented DB in the fold.

Filsaime is rated at five stars and ranked No. 30 overall and No. 2 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rates him at four stars has him at Nos. 33 and 2, respectively.

Xavier Filsaime, a 5-star safety, flips from Florida to Texas

Xavier Filsaime has flipped and is now committed to Texas.

Xavier Filsaime has pulled off a flip, de-committing on Monday from Florida and giving his verbal to Texas. The decision comes after one of the nation’s top safety prospects had been on an official visit this past weekend to Texas.

A 6-foot, 185-pound safety from McKinney High School (McKinney, Texas), Filsaime is a five-star recruit according to 247Sports. He also had offers from Florida State, Oklahoma, Oregon and SMU among others.

With the addition of McKinney, Texas now has the fifth-best recruiting class in the nation and the third-best in the SEC.according to On3.

Filsaime had been committed to Florida since mid-April.

The flip certainly wasn’t a big surprise. In mid-November, Filsaime took an unofficial visit to Texas and then, three weeks later, he was in Austin for an official visit.

McKinney finished the season 9-3.

Five-star DB Xavier Filsaime to sign on Wednesday, Dec. 20

Xavier Filsaime is set to sign with his college choice on Dec. 20.

Five-star defensive back and Florida commit Xavier Filsaime is set to sign with his college football team of choice. It looks like he will make that choice official on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Filsaime earned his five-star status playing safety for the McKinney High Lions. He commands the following scouting report from 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks.

“Athletic back-end defender with experience in all three phases and verified athleticism in multiple environments. A receiver early on who made the full-time switch to the secondary. Coincidentally, a weapon in the kicking game at punter as well. Physical tools, football IQ, and athleticism likely make for a core special teamer early in college.

Productive tackler who’s around the ball regularly vs. the run and the pass. Quick-footed and fluid in coverage with turn-and-run juice. Capable of matching up with receivers, tight ends, and backs.”

Texas has seen its odds of bringing in the elite safety increase over the last month. The Longhorns look to be the favorite to sign the program elevating player. We will monitor Filsaime’s recruitment as it nears the finish line.

On3 thinks Florida football’s 5-star safety commit will flip

The Gators are losing the war for one of the top defensive backs in the country.

The early signing period is quickly approaching, which has Billy Napier and Co. scrambling to keep their highly-ranked recruiting class together long enough to get everyone to ink their commitments. However, it will not be easy sailing for Florida football’s efforts.

The Gators have already seen the departure of a handful of players into the transfer portal as well as a cohort of decommits on the recruiting front. One top commit who looks like he might change his mind could really put a damper on the 2024 class.

Five-star safety [autotag]Xavier Filsaime[/autotag] out of McKinney, Texas, gave his word to the Orange and Blue back in April but On3’s Corey Bender recently submitted his expert prediction for the coveted defensive back to flip to the Texas Longhorns. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives it a 96% chance of happening.

He hosted the Longhorns last week for a home visit — as well as this week — while also planning an official visit this weekend. Head coach Billy Napier along with defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and new hire Will Harris were expected to stop to see him on Wednesday, ostensibly to get him some face time with the incoming secondary coach.

It appears that the home-state school is poised to win out in the end.

Filsaime is rated at five stars and ranked No. 31 overall and No. 2 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rated him at four stars has him at Nos. 33 and 2, respectively.

New Florida DBs coach visiting 5-star Gators commit

Florida’s new secondary coach, Will Harris, will meet with five-star safety Xavier Filsaime on his first recruiting trip with the Gators.

The first recruiting stop Florida’s new secondary coach, [autotag]Will Harris[/autotag], will make is to McKinney, Texas, to see five-star safety commit [autotag]Xavier Filsaime[/autotag] in person, according to a report from Swamp247’s Blake Alderman.

The two are set to meet up on Wednesday after Harris’ hiring was made official on Monday. Filsaime is the top-ranked defensive recruit under commitment to Florida, and the loss of former secondary coach Corey Raymond has kept him on flip watch leading up to the early signing period.

Defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong paid him an in-home visit to keep the team’s recruiting plan in place, but meeting Harris — his future position coach — will be a big step. The flip rumors might grow even louder if the two don’t click.

Right now, it’s Oregon and Texas pushing the hardest with the Florida commit. The early signing period starts in just one week though, so time is running out for all three parties to make their pitch.

Filsaime is a five-star recruit, ranked No. 31 in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports. He’s also the second-best safety in the class and the seventh-best player out of the state of Texas.

Florida’s 5-star safety commit to host pair of schools at home this week

Florida and Texas will be dropping in to check on one of the best safeties in the 2024 class.

Florida football’s prized 2024 defensive commit, five-star safety [autotag]Xavier Filsaime[/autotag] out of McKinney (Texas), will be hosting in-home visits from a pair of schools this week as the early signing period quickly approaches, according to Swamp247.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pound defensive back is considered a hard commitment by the recruiting experts but there has been a push of late from a handful of teams who are looking to flip the coveted prep prospect. Among them are the Oregon Ducks, as well as in-state destinations such as the Texas Longhorns and Southern Methodist Mustangs.

On Wednesday, Florida head coach Billy Napier along with defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and new hire Will Harris are expected to pay a visit to the Lone Star State standout, ostensibly to get him some face time with the incoming secondary coach.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian along with safeties coach Blake Gideon paid him a visit last week and are expected to return to McKinney this week for another stop before Filsaime makes an official visit to Austin this coming weekend.

Neither Oregon nor SMU have visited and are not expected to in the near future.

Filsaime is rated at five stars ranked No. 31 overall and No. 2 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rates him at four stars has him at Nos. 33 and 2, respectively.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Texas a 65.7% chance of flipping him.

Florida Gators make in-home visit with 5-star safety recruit

The Florida Gators made an in-home visit to a five-star safety recruit, but they weren’t alone.

The Florida Gators are doing all they can to salvage its place as one of the top destinations for future recruits. The team currently stands at No. 5 in the recruiting rankings according to 247Sports and Florida coaches are putting in their last words to entice the top players in the nation.

A five-star safety [autotag]Xavier Filsaime[/autotag] hosted numerous schools at his home over a two-week span and UF defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong was among the esteemed guest list.

Filsaime is listed as a hard commit to the University of Florida, making his intentions known back in April. The commitment isn’t deterring other programs from entering their name into the recruiting fiasco, and the young prospect is certainly still listening to other offers before signing his name on the dotted line.

Not only did the five-star prospect welcome Armstrong to his humble abode, he invited defensive representatives from the Oregon Ducks and the Texas Longhorns as well.

According to 247Sports, Filsaime has a strong relationship with Oregon safeties coach Chris Hampton and there’s a strong pitch to get him to flip his commitment. Oregon has a lot of voids in its roster after losing players to the transfer portal and the NFL draft.

Texas, on the other hand, is making the same pitch to Filsaime, stating that the blue-chip recruit will make an immediate impact following a heavy load of roster turnover this offseason. Texas safeties coach Blake Gideon and head coach Steve Sarkisian both visited Filsaime’s home last Thursday to get an extra leg in the race.

Having the Texas head coach visit is a monumental advantage over the Florida Gators, considering that Armstrong was the only UF coach to pay a visit. Florida head coach Billy Napier was unable to make the trip and Filsaime let his curiosity known about the potential replacement for Corey Raymond, who was fired shortly after the loss to Florida State.

Armstrong had no clear answer for Filsaime, according to 247Sports.

Filsaime is a five-star safety from McKinney, Texas, and is ranked as the No. 33 recruit in the nation. The Class of 2024 member is also the No. 2 safety in the nation

The coveted recruit will keep pondering his options until national signing day in February.

Texas receives prediction to win over five-star DB Xavier Filsaime

Is Xavier Filsaime trending toward choosing the Texas Longhorns?

Making the College Football Playoff is a strong recruiting pitch. Texas is leveraging that success on the recruiting trail.

McKinney five-star safety Xavier Filsaime was set to become a Florida Gator, but there’s reason to believe that could change. The north Texas talent received a flip prediction in favor of Texas from Inside Texas analyst Eric Nahlin. If Nahlin’s success forecasting recruiting decisions is any indication, the Longhorns have a strong chance to win the recruitment.

Texas can make do without elite safety talents, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to add a five-star talent at the position. The program is used to landing big time safeties, but never behind as strong a front six as the Longhorns have built in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s three seasons in Austin.

Filsaime would become the fourth five-star to join Texas’ already talent-laden recruiting class. He would join wide receiver Ryan Wingo, edge rusher Colin Simmons and offensive tackle Brandon Baker as Longhorn pledges to receive five-star billing.

We will continue to monitor the recruitment as it develops.
