Oregon LB signee Dylan Williams named among standout performers at Polynesian Bowl

Dylan Williams, a 4-star LB signee in Oregon’s 2024, showed off his physical skills in the Polynesian bowl last week.

The Polynesian Bowl — an All-Star game for incoming recruits — took place last week, and several 2024 Oregon Ducks recruits participated in the event. Aydin Breland, Dakoda Fields, Aaron Flowers, Dylan Williams, and Braden Platt were among Oregon’s participants, although many more Ducks competed.

On Monday, Matt Moreno and Ryan Young of Rivals released their top performers for the week, and they picked Dylan Williams for the “Bringing the Boom,” award.

Dylan Williams is a 4-star linebacker from Long Beach, California, where he attended Long Beach Poly High School — a high school football powerhouse. In his senior season, Williams had 83 total tackles, 11 TFLs, 3 sacks, and an interception.

Moreno and Young had this to say about the Oregon LB signee and why he deserves the award:

“The No. 4-ranked inside linebacker controlled the middle of the field for Team Makai, and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact in Friday’s game with a big early tackle plus an athletic interception working against Utah quarterback signee Isaac Wilson.”

Moreno also posted this video of Dylan Williams laying a hit, and fellow Oregon LB commit Braden Platt cleaning up the tackle.

Williams is one of three linebacker commits in the Ducks’ 2024 class along with 4-stars Kamar Mothudi and Braden Platt. 247 Sports ranks Williams lowest of the three, but all three are talented. For 2024, Oregon’s LB corps is set up well, with Jeffrey Bassa and Jestin Jacobs returning. But in 2025 and beyond, players like Dylan Williams and Braden Platt could become key to the Ducks’ defense, so it’s nice to see them performing well early.

WATCH: Oregon 4-star LB Dylan Williams pulls in acrobatic INT at Polynesian Bowl

Oregon Ducks incoming 4-star linebacker Dylan Williams had an impressive interception on Friday at the Polynesian Bowl.

If you made it to one of the All-American bowls or all-star games at the high school level, like Friday night’s Polynesian Bowl, then you are obviously a certified talent with a high ceiling at the college level.

If you can find a way to stand out at one of those games, though, then there’s going to be a lot of anticipation for what you can do in the near future.

That’s the case for Oregon Ducks’ incoming linebacker Dylan Williams, who had an impressive interception on Friday night, dropping back into coverage from the inside linebacker spot and rising up high to pick of Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.

This is the type of production that Duck fans love to see, since pass coverage from the linebacker spot has been lacking in the past. It looks to be getting better, and the future is bright with Williams coming into the fold.

Here’s a look at the INT, and some of the reaction from Oregon fans online:

SIGNED: Four-star linebacker Dylan Williams is officially a Duck

The Oregon Ducks officially signed 4-star linebacker Dylan Williams, adding him to the 2024 class.

The competition at linebacker at Oregon practices is going to be fun to watch in the coming seasons.

That position has been fruitful for the Ducks in the recent recruiting cycles, and four-star linebacker Dylan Williams provides another valuable piece to that puzzle.

At 6 feet, 2 inches and 215 pounds, Williams, who is out of Long Beach, California, is the No. 26 linebacker in the nation and the No. 24 player in the state. In the weeks leading up to the early signing period, Williams visited other schools. But he ended up signing his national letter of intent with Dan Lanning in Eugene.

Williams is the third linebacker to sign with Oregon and Lanning on the opening day of this signing period. He turned down offers from UCLA, Oklahoma, Michigan State and Nebraska to come to Eugene.

Here is a look at Williams’ highlights:

Oregon commit visiting Nebraska this weekend

A four-star commit to the University of Oregon is visiting Nebraska this weekend.

A four-star commit to the University of Oregon is visiting Nebraska this weekend. Class of 2024 linebacker Dylan Williams, out of Long Beach, California, is confirmed to make a visit.

Williams committed to the Ducks in July. At the time of his commitment, Willaims told On3 that player development was a significant factor in his decision.

“Player development is one major thing that set Oregon apart for me. If you play defense and you go to school on the West Coast, you want to go to Oregon. Coach Dan Lanning and coach Tosh Lupoi develop players.”

He chose the Ducks over Michigan State. The prospect had been committed to USC at one point but walked away from the pledge before selecting Oregon.

Oregon recruits a pair of 4-star linebacker prospects from California

Oregon’s class of 2024 now has 20 hard commits and ranks No. 8 in the nation.

The Oregon Ducks have managed to create a significant boost to their linebacker corps this week with a pair of blue-chip recruits from the same region.

On Friday, they got a commitment from Long Beach Poly (Calif.) four-star linebacker Dylan Williams.

Williams (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) had offers from 30 other programs, including Michigan State, UCLA, Washington and USC. He is ranked No. 17 at his position and No. 18 overall in the state of California, going by the 247Sports composite rankings.

The Ducks followed that up with another big get at this position when Los Alamitos (Calif.) four-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi announced his commitment.

Mothudi (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) is ranked one spot lower among linebackers in his class and No. 20 in the state. He was also being pursued by many of the same schools, including Michigan State, Utah and Washington.

Oregon’s class of 2024 now has 20 hard commits and ranks No. 8 in the nation.

A lot can change in 24 hours — that was evident in the recruitment of four-star linebacker Dylan Williams

A lot can change in 24 hours — that was evident in the recruitment of four-star linebacker Dylan Williams.

Williams officially announced his commitment to Oregon on Friday afternoon, picking the Ducks over Michigan State, UCLA, Miami (FL) and Washington. There was some smoke around Williams intending to commit to Michigan State on Thursday, however, things shifted back in the favor of the Ducks late in the day and that’s ultimately who he picked.

Williams ranks as the No. 17 linebacker and No. 181 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He hails from Long Beach, Calif. and ranks as the No. 17 player from California.

The recruiting whirlwind behind Williams was something that will bother Michigan State fans but shouldn’t be terribly surprising since he was originally reported to be leaning towards Oregon. However, it’s still disappointing to see the Spartans finish in second place for a big-time prospect from out west.

4-star LB Dylan Williams commits to Oregon Ducks

Dylan Williams joins the Ducks as the second-highest rated LB since Dan Lanning took over in Eugene.

The Ducks added a huge piece to the defense on Friday, and filled a massive need in the recruiting cycle by landing 4-star linebacker Dylan Williams.

Rated as the No. 17 linebacker and No. 181 overall player in the 2024 class, Williams comes in as one of the top-rated defensive players in Oregon’s current class. He is also the second-highest-rated linebacker to commit to Oregon since Dan Lanning became the head coach, behind only Devon Jackson in 2022.

Williams, out of Long Beach, Calif., was at one time committed to USC early in his recruitment, but he de-committed and has been thought to be an Oregon lean ever since.

With the commitment, Oregon moved up one spot in the recruiting rankings, now sitting ahead of Penn State at No. 8. They are scheduled to see a potential commitment from 4-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi next week as well.

4-star LB trending away from Ducks ahead of Friday commitment

4-star LB trending away from Ducks ahead of Friday commitment

The Oregon Ducks have been trending in the first direction to land 4-star linebacker Dylan Williams for the past several months, ever since he decommitted from USC.

With his scheduled commitment coming a day from now, it seemed as if Dan Lanning and the Ducks were in a great position to add to their top-10 ranked 2024 recruiting class.

That no longer seems to be the case.

On Thursday morning, a pair of Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports came in from Michigan State Spartans insiders Corey Robinson and Justin Thind, both of whom think that Williams will end up in East Lansing. 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong still has a prediction in for Williams to land with Oregon, but that was made back in June.

Williams is rated as the No. 17 LB in the 2024 class, and the No. 181 player overall.

The potential shift for Williams comes at a tough time for the Ducks, who have also seemingly lost their stranglehold on 5-star EDGE Elijah Rushing and his commitment, which is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. While Oregon has long been thought to be the favorite to land Rushing, a slew of predictions came in on Wednesday that show he will more likely end up at Arizona, rather than in Eugene.

In the end, we will see how the Ducks can close on both of these top recruits.

Spartans pick up pair of crystal ball predictions for 4-star LB Dylan Williams

Michigan State football is reportedly in a great position to “pull off a shocker” on the recruiting trail

Michigan State football is reportedly in a great position to “pull off a shocker” on the recruiting trail.

A pair of recruiting insiders, Justin Thind and Corey Robinson, have submitted crystal ball predictions for four-star linebacker Dylan Williams in favor of Michigan State. Williams has been considered an Oregon lean; national recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong submitted a crystal ball in favor of the Ducks last month.

Williams plans to announce his college decision on Friday afternoon.

Williams ranks as the No. 17 linebacker and No. 181 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2024 class. He holds offers from more than 30 schools, and has a finalist list of Michigan State, Oregon, Miami (FL), Washington and UCLA.

The addition of Williams to the Spartans’ class would be massive should Thind and Robinson end up being correct with their prediction. We will find out Friday, but this is huge news for Michigan State football.
