Southern California four-star DB Dakoda Fields linked to USC

USC is in the mix with Ohio State and Washington, but @Ducks_Wire has the inside track on this recruitment.

USC can’t have too much help in the secondary. Four-star cornerback Dakoda Fields recently announced his top schools, grouping the Trojans with other schools: Oregon, Ohio State, Washington, and Miami.

Fields, who comes in at 6-2 and weighs 175 pounds, has also scheduled official visits to Miami (June 16), Washington (June 21) and Oregon (June 23). The Ducks are currently the favorite to land Fields.

Fields is ranked as a four star overall and rated as the No. 78 player nationally, per the 247Sports.com composite. He’s the No. 10 rated cornerback.

Fields talked about his relationship with the Trojans program:

“Donte Williams is my guy, one of the coaches I’m closest with and he’s very easy for me to talk with. He’s someone I know who cares about me as a person and a player and we’ll always be close no matter where I go. I like the move to the Big Ten too and I know they’re excited about it as well.”

Fields was high school teammates with Rodrick Pleasant, an Oregon signee, at Garden Serra High School in California.

USC rival emerges as new favorite to land offensive tackle Brandon Baker

.@Ducks_Wire has reason to feel good about the status of this recruitment.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei won a national title this season. A huge reason for that is Brandon Baker, who is the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2024 class.

Baker has more than two dozen offers, including Nebraska, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Washington, USC, and numerous others, but the favorite to land Baker is the Oregon Ducks.

Earlier this week, On3’s Chad Simmons made a prediction for the Ducks to get Mater Dei’s Baker, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 23 player overall in the 2024 class. Our friends at Ducks Wire made note of this story.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle has had a busy travel itinerary of late.

Baker has visited Oregon, Penn State, USC, Colorado, Ohio State, Nebraska, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, and will visit Nebraska this weekend again.

Dan Lanning and Oregon swiped Josh Conerly from USC a year ago. It would certainly sting if Oregon bested USC for this particular recruitment, even though the Trojans are moving to the Big Ten in 2024. They still need to win major territorial battles with Oregon and Lanning, especially in the trenches.

The Georgia Bulldogs are missing out on a generational in-state talent, but Kirby Smart and company still have an elite class of 2022. Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M have the best class of 2022 in the country.

Overton plays for Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end put up incredible sack numbers throughout his career in high school.

The Milton star is extremely quick off the snap and has an excellent first step. Overton also plays basketball at a very high level. He’s an elite athlete in both football and basketball. In fact, Overton has a basketball scholarship offers from Stanford, Ohio State and North Carolina among others.

The Texas A&M signee announced his commitment on ESPN2.

4-star RB Jordan James sets commitment time

The Georgia Bulldogs are hoping to keep a commitment from elite running back recruit Jordan James. Who could step in if James decommits?

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbz2y40j067srkf player_id=none image=https://ugawire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The Georgia Bulldogs are hoping to keep a commitment from elite running back recruit Jordan James. Kirby Smart and Georgia are among the top three schools for James.

James, a four-star class of 2022 recruit, will sign on Feb. 2, 2022 at noon. He will decide between UGA, Florida, and Oregon. The Ducks have made a strong run to secure a commitment from James.

James, who committed to Georgia last March, plays high school football for Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. James is rated as the No. 192 recruit in the nation and the No. 16 running back.

Jordan James is expected to flip his commitment from Georgia to Oregon. Former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning may get a rare recruiting win over Kirby Smart. Georgia will have a shot at revenge, if James flips, in the 2022 season opener against Oregon in Atlanta.

Georgia offered three-star running back Andrew Paul late in the 2022 recruiting cycle. Paul could be the next man up if Jordan James flips to Oregon. The Dawgs already have a solid running back class with four-star Branson Robinson.

Three-star offenisve tackle Cameron Williams “100% committed to Oregon”

“I am 100% committed to Oregon until further notice.”

It’s easy to spot Cameron Williams out of a crowd. The 6-5, 360-pound offensive lineman spent the night making his presence known against DeSoto. Most times, the Eagles did not even try to send a rusher his way, letting Williams find his own target.

Texas was in after the three-star offensive tackle hard over the summer. Willaims’ decision came down to the Longhorns, Oklahoma, and Oregon. To much surprise, the west coast school ended up being the winner. At the time, it was the latest of many moves the Ducks have made inside the state of Texas.

Offensive line coach Alex Mirabal was a big reason Oregon ended up being the choice. The two are close to each other and get to speak consistently. A proven track record of getting people to the next level appealed to Williams as well.

“We talk every day,” said Williams. “[Mirabal] knows a lot. He put a lot of people in the league, I like that.”

Mirabal was in attendance on Friday night to see his offensive tackle commit play in person. They caught up during the pregame warmup before turning the focus on the game. From there, the offensive line coach followed nearly every play from the right tackle.

Williams appreciated the gesture of making it down from Eugune to Dallas on a Friday night.

“It was a blessing just for him to fly down here, knowing they got a game tomorrow,” Williams said. “It was a blessing.”

Oregon has had a big week off the backs of a road win against Ohio State. The program has ascended to No. 4 in the AP poll, its highest regular-season ranking since 2014.

When asked about the win over Ohio State, Williams instantly lit up with excitement. The offensive line “looked pretty” as the Ducks rushed for 269 yards and three touchdowns. Everything seemed to check the boxes from the three-star’s end.

“It was crazy, everybody was doubting them hard but I already knew they were going to win,” he said.

Williams is scheduled to visit Eugune again over the Thanksgiving holiday to see the Oregon-Oregon State matchup better known as the Civil War. Texas-Oklahoma in Dallas is the only other game on the schedule. All five official visits have already been made.

From a Texas perspective, it seems as if there is a steep hill to climb if a flip is wanted. Williams has no plans at the moment to go see Austin for a game weekend. The Red River Shootout could be the last opportunity to get face time.

“To be honest, I do not even know [what it would take for a decommitment].”

“I am 100% committed to Oregon until further notice.”

Oregon continues its recruiting rampage with the addition of Dave Iuli

Four-star offensive guard Dave Iuli commits to the Ducks over Oklahoma, USC, Cal, and Washington.

When Oregon coach Mario Cristobal tweets out a GIF of WWE Samoan wrestler Umaga with the hashtag #TrenchWarfare, you know something really cool just happened.

That something was 4-star offensive lineman Dave Iuli committing to Oregon. Iuli stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 330 pounds. Out of Puyallup, Wash., Iuli, who is the No. 7 offensive guard in the country according to Rivals.com, selected the Ducks over Oklahoma, USC, Cal, and Washington.

This is just the latest big-time recruit Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal has been able to add to the Class of 2022. Iuli joins the likes of Michael Wooten, Kelvin Banks, and Cameron Williams.

The loss of Iuli is just another recruiting blow the Huskies and coach Jimmy Lake have to endure. We discussed this in the latest episode of the Trojans Wired podcast.

They (Washington) should be worried that the recruiting has definitely dropped off. They lost out on JT Tuimoloau and he’s from Washington. The number one recruit in the nation and he was right there in their backyard. So now they’re worried about the overall recruiting and it’s in the middle of the Pac-12. Most recruiting sites list the Huskies as fifth or sixth and in Seattle, that’s not good enough. And right now Oregon is killing it when comes to recruiting.

Two-sport star Isaiah Sategna to choose between Oregon and USC

Two-sport athlete Isaiah Sategna will choose between the Ducks and Trojans after decommitting from Texas A&M.

The United States Olympic trials at the new Hayward Field couldn’t have come at a better time for the Oregon Ducks football team.

After de-committing from Texas A&M, two-sport star Isaiah Sategna has made it clear that he will either become a Duck or Trojan soon enough.

At 5-foot 10 and 170 pounds, the Fayetteville, Ark. native is a four-star recruit in the Class of 2022 as a wide receiver and one of the best high school sprinters in the country.

Sategna’s father is an assistant coach for the Arkansas track team, so choosing Oregon wouldn’t be that big of a shock. Hayward Field has been the star of the Olympic trials this past week and running on that track would be any prep runner’s dream.

“The track stood out to me because I’m going to run track and football in college,” he said after a visit to Eugene. “I would say that’s probably the best track in the world right now.”

As a receiver, Sategna isn’t just receiving footballs, but college scholarship offers as well. He has nearly 30 offers including most of the SEC. But with his recent tweet, he’s headed out to the Pacific. Oregon can only hope it’s to the Pacific Northwest and not to Pacific Palisades.

4-star WR Xavier Worthy commits to the University of Michigan

Georgia Bulldogs football recruiting target Xavier Worthy has committed to the University of Michigan Wolverines.

The Georgia Bulldogs were among the top schools for four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to secure a commitment from him.

Worthy is a member of the class of 2021 and is from Fresno, California (UGA’s Kendall Milton also hails from the area). Worthy plays football for Central East High School.

Worthy has committed to the University of Michigan. He announced his commitment via Twitter:

Worthy has had some pretty sweet edits. Here’s the one he released for his top schools:

Worthy picked Michigan over UGA, Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU, which made up his top six.

Worthy will be a solid addition to Michigan’s class of 2021. The Wolverines are looking to dethrone Ohio State, but have a long way to go as the Buckeyes have the top class of 2021 in the country.

The Dawgs are currently seeking a talented wide receiver to commit in the class of 2021. Kirby Smart and Georgia have solidified the offensive and defensive fronts already.

Notre Dame Offers Star Hawaiian Linebacker

Notre Dame has created a nice pipeline to recruiting Hawaii and just made a new scholarship offer to the state’s top prospect in 2022.

Notre Dame’s recent pipeline to recruiting Hawaii is well-documented with Manti Te’o, Robby Toma, Alohi Gilman and the late Kona Schwenke being just a few players that came to South Bend, Indiana from the islands.

Now Notre Dame has their eye on another defensive star as they’ve made a scholarship offer to 2022 outside linebacker Tevarua Tafiti.

Tafiti is listed at 6-3, 205 pounds.  He may have a bit of a narrow build but packs a huge punch as a pass rusher as 247Sports ranks him as a four-star talent.

Notre Dame is the 13th team to make an offer to Tafiti as the Irish join Arizona State, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin in doing so.

Tafiti had 27 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and three forced fumbles as a sophomore at Punahou High School in Honolulu.
