Oklahoma target Josh Conerly Jr. picks Oregon over Oklahoma, Michigan, USC

After making his top six, the Sooners miss out on the commitment of five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. who committed to Oregon.

After virtually being the only major prospect available on recruiting boards across America, five-star offensive lineman target [autotag]Josh Conerly Jr[/autotag]. has made his decision. He will be staying in the Pacific Northwest and playing his college ball with the Oregon Ducks.

Conerly was a target of Oklahoma’s for a while. Despite getting an official visit in January, it always seemed like Conerly was likely to go elsewhere. The Sooners made the top six for Conerly’s services which included the USC Trojans, Michigan Wolverines, Washington Huskies, Miami Hurricanes, and the Ducks. Ultimately, the Sooners fell short.

With Conerly heading elsewhere, the Sooners’ 2022 high school recruiting efforts look finished after missing out on Conerly and Top247 five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Lebbeus Overton[/autotag].

The Sooners look poised to finish with the 8th ranked class in the nation. Along the offensive line, they received signatures from four-star offensive tackles, [autotag]Jake Taylor[/autotag] and [autotag]Jacob Sexton[/autotag]. While missing on Conerly Jr. is unfortunate, the Sooners have multiple highly-rated offensive linemen squarely in their sights for their 2023 class such as four-star offensive tackle Cayden Green, four-star Brycen Sanders who they hosted on a visit recently, and four-star Knijeah Harris to go along with their three-star guard commit in Joshua Bates.

Bill Bedenbaugh will be hot on the recruiting trail over the next few months as he turns the page to the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes. Adding offensive line talent in the next two cycles will be paramount as Oklahoma gets set to embark on its SEC journey.

5-star DL Lebbeus Overton commits to Texas A&M

2022 5-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton chooses the Aggies over Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon, and Georgia.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Once a part of the sweepstakes for five-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton, the highly-touted member of the 2022 class has committed to the Texas A&M Aggies. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise as recruiting services 247Sports and On3 were trending Overton toward Texas A&M in recent days. Still, the Sooners have to be disappointed they didn’t get a chance to host Overton on an official visit.

Originally, Overton had plans to visit the University of Oklahoma in April, but in recent days cancelled that visit along with one to Ohio State as he planned to make his commitment decision.

The No. 17 player in the 2022 class was initially a part of the 2023 class before reclassifying to the current recruiting cycle. Now he joins an already impressive Aggies recruiting class that was No. 1 in the nation with eight five-star players prior to Overton’s commitment.

Overton is one of six defensive linemen committed to Aggies along with former Oklahoma Sooners commit Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy.

Time will tell what the impact on the field will look like, but the Aggies are making a strong push to challenge Georgia and Alabama at the top of the SEC in the next several years.

For Oklahoma, the Sooners have three defensive lineman committed for 2022; Gracen Halton, Alton Tarber, and Cedric Roberts. As Brent Venables looks to reshape the Sooners defense not even getting an official visit with Overton hurts.

However, the Sooners got some good news for their 2023 defensive line class as Peter Woods included the Sooners in his “final four” teams ahead of his commitment that will likely come this summer.

Leddeus Overton gives Aggies yet another 2022 five-star commitment

A&M adds yet another five-star defensive lineman to the 2022 record-breaking class.

Jimbo Fisher’s 2022 recruiting class was already considered the best college football recruiting class ever, and just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Alpharetta (GA) Milton’s five-star defensive lineman Lebbeus “LT” Overton, had different ideas.

After reclassifying from the 2023 to 2022 class, Overton had long been strongly tied to Texas A&M, but there were late murmurs that Oregon’s late overtures could be successful in drawing him away from the Aggies.

Overton had narrowed down his options to A&M, Oregon, and his hometown Georgia Bulldogs, and finally announced his decision to become an Aggie on Friday afternoon.

In Overton, the Aggies defense gains a versatile 6-4 265 pound playmaker for DJ Durkin’s defensive front, and combined with the other high-level recruits who have joined the Aggies program who play along the line of scrimmage, helps put A&M in a position to compete with college football’s elite like Georgia and Alabama in the trenches.

5-star 2022 DE Lebbeus Overton makes commitment

Five-star class of 2022 defensive end recruit Lebbeus Overton has committed to the Texas A&M Aggies over Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, and more

Five-star class of 2022 defensive end recruit Lebbeus Overton has committed to the Texas A&M Aggies over Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. Overton was the top remaining uncommitted player in the class of 2022.

Lebbeus Overton had been one of the top rated recruits in the class of 2023, but he reclassified. He remains a five-star prospect.

Overton is the No. 18 recruit in the class of 2022. He’s the No. 5 defensive lineman and the third-ranked player in Georgia.

The Georgia Bulldogs are missing out on a generational in-state talent, but Kirby Smart and company still have an elite class of 2022. Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M have the best class of 2022 in the country.

Overton plays for Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end put up incredible sack numbers throughout his career in high school.

The Milton star is extremely quick off the snap and has an excellent first step. Overton also plays basketball at a very high level. He’s an elite athlete in both football and basketball. In fact, Overton has a basketball scholarship offers from Stanford, Ohio State and North Carolina among others.

The Texas A&M signee announced his commitment on ESPN2.

Breaking: 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton commits to Texas A&M over Oregon Ducks

5-star DL Lebbeus Overton passed on the Ducks. The silver lining is that Oregon was one of the final options in the first place.

[jwplayer 3H7XMxAl]

It was certainly the expected outcome, but that doesn’t make it any less of a bummer for fans of the Oregon Ducks.

On Friday afternoon, 5-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton announced that he will be committing to the Texas A&M Aggies, choosing to go to College Station rather than up to the Pacific Northwest to join Dan Lanning.

Schools like the Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners, and Ohio State Buckeyes were also in the mix coming down the stretch.

Overton is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 5 DL in the 2022 class, and the No. 18 player overall. He was originally a member of the 2023 recruiting class but reclassified to 2022 earlier this year.

Though Texas A&M was thought to be a heavy favorite going into the announcement, Oregon was definitely in the running to land one of the best-unsigned players in the 2022 class. Overton’s relationship with Dan Lanning is reportedly strong, and he seriously considered coming out to Oregon to join the Ducks in Lanning’s first year with the team.

While it didn’t end up that way, we can feel confident about the fact that Oregon was even in the running for a player like Overton, and that in the future, more players of his status will consider coming to the Ducks.

Elite ’22 DL recruit Lebbeus Overton plans to announce decision Friday

Top 20 player and Sooners legacy Lebbeus Overton announces decision date and time.

One of the two major recruiting dominos left for the class of 2022 is about to fall as defensive line prospect Lebbeus Overton has decided to announce his decision on Friday, April 1st. Overton, who hails from Alpharetta, Georgia plans to announce his college decision on ESPN2 around 3 pm EST during halftime of the Geico National High School Basketball Tournament.

Overton was one of the top five recruits in the country for the Class of 2023 but in a crazy twist of events that concluded national signing day in February, Overton announced he would be reclassifying to the class of 2022.

At one point he was the No. 1 overall prospect in the Top247 for the 2023 class. As part of the 2022 class, Overton is the No. 17 player in the country per 247Sports.

Five schools were named the destinations of choice: Texas A&M, Georgia, Oregon, Ohio State, and the Oklahoma Sooners.

As the days wind down to his commitment, news of his sudden decision to commit has cleared up the picture considerably.

Overton took official visits in March to Oregon, Georgia, and Texas A&M while he planned to visit Ohio State and Oklahoma in April.

Those last two schools will no longer get an official visit. Couple that with the crystal ball prediction to Texas A&M from 247Sports’ recruiting wizard Steve Wiltfong and three other analysts and the story becomes as clear as watching a movie in 4K UHD.

A commitment to Texas A&M would only add to their already unprecedented defensive line haul. The Sooners hoped that the last-minute visit could shake some things up. Overton has ties to Oklahoma as his father started on the offensive line for OU in the 90s.

Overton was no stranger to Norman, taking unofficial visits multiple times. The Sooners also offered his brother Micaiah since the two brothers shared a desire to play together. The oldest Overton entered the transfer portal shortly after his brother announced plans to reclassify.

While the Sooners are down, they aren’t officially out, However, a commitment looks unlikely. While they might have missed on one of the top defensive line targets in 2022, signees Gracen Halton, Alton Tarber, and Cedric Roberts provide the Sooners with intriguing defensive line prospects. Looking ahead to 2023, the Sooners are well-positioned for multiple high-level defensive line prospects thanks to Todd Bates, Miguel Chavis, and [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag]’ efforts on the recruiting trail.

Oregon is ‘best positioned’ to steal 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton from Texas A&M

A new report from 247Sports shows that Dan Lanning and the Ducks are in a great position when it comes to the recruitment of 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton.

When it comes to the 2022 recruiting class, things for the most part are signed, sealed, and delivered. On Tuesday morning, we even saw a handful of 2022 class members take the field in Oregon for their first collegiate practices, with Jahlil Florence, Devon Jackson, Jusius Lowe, Harrison Taggart, and Michael Wooten making their Ducks’ debut.

However, there are still a couple of top-rated recruits left on the board, and the college football world is awaiting their announcements. One of those players is 5-star OT Josh Conerly, who will announce his commitment on April 8. The other is 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton. He hasn’t announced a commitment date, but as we get closer to him making a decision, there is a hierarchy of teams to beat.

Fortunately, for the Ducks, they are in a great position to potentially land him over the Texas A&M Aggies, who currently stand as the favorites.

Here is the explanation from 247Sports Steve Wiltfong:

Right now we see the Ducks as the school best positioned to beat the Aggies.

New head coach Dan Lanning is the reason. Overton and Lanning got really close when Lanning was the defensive coordinator at Georgia and Overton is excited now that Lanning is in the corner office. He could see himself going out to Eugene and helping Lanning build that program up.

Overton likes the young staff at Oregon, he enjoyed the vibe on campus during his official in March, and the ties to Nike make a future out West enticing as well.

Wiltfong explains that since Overton grew up rooting for Texas A&M, it will be hard for any other school to land his commitment outside of college station, but the relationship built between Lanning and Overton while Oregon’s new head coach was in Georgia is something special, and it could be the difference down the stretch.

The other schools in contention for the 5-star’s commitment are the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Oklahoma Sooners.

As we await an announcement from Overton, the Ducks should feel really good about where they stand with the top unsigned defensive player in the 2022 class. They aren’t the favorites to land him right now, but they are certainly lingering in a great spot.

Where the Oklahoma Sooners stand with 2022 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton according to 247Sports

With an official visit on tap for April, 247Sports Steve Wiltfong breaks down where the Sooners stand for 2022 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton.

The Oklahoma Sooners currently hold the No. 8 recruiting class in the 2022 cycle. There are a couple of five-star prospects in play that the Sooners have offers out to that could raise that ranking; offensive tackle Josh Conerly and defensive tackle Lebbeus Overton.

Overton was originally a member of the 2023 class but reclassified to be eligible to step on campus in 2022. The Sooners are in his top five, with a visit scheduled for April. An Oklahoma legacy, his father Milton Overton played offensive line for the Oklahoma Sooners in the 90s. Then he told 247Sports Steve Wiltfong that the hiring of Brent Venables made a difference when the five-star defensive lineman trimmed his list of schools to five.

247Sports is working through a series titled “War Daddy” that looks at the top talent and which schools are in the mix for their commitment. For [autotag]Lebbeus Overton[/autotag], the Sooners are in the mix, but Director of Recruiting at 247Sports Steve Wiltfong believes the “Aggies are the team to beat.”

But with an official visit on the horizon with the Oklahoma Sooners, Brent Venables and staff will get their opportunity to show “L.T.” what Norman has to offer. Though not in the lead, Oklahoma still has a shot.

Initially, Overton’s interest in Oklahoma was rooted in going out to see where his father played. Overton made it to the ChampU BBQ last summer and returned for a game. Lincoln Riley’s energy similar to Day’s was exciting. When Brent Venables got the job at Oklahoma, that didn’t hurt things — his scheme at Clemson has always intrigued Overton and Overton knows the type of defensive lineman he can become playing under Venables. Overton is scheduled to get back to Norman for the Oklahoma spring game the week after Ohio State’s. – Wiltfong, 247Sports

Over the years, [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] has developed a track record for establishing great defensive play and providing opportunities for defensive linemen to win along the line of scrimmage. [autotag]Gerald McCoy[/autotag] and [autotag]Tommie Harris[/autotag] at Oklahoma and Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence at Clemson are just a few examples. That track record will keep the Sooners squarely in the sights of Overton until he makes his decision.

The Sooners have made a concerted effort to stockpile defensive line talent to bolster Oklahoma’s defensive front before the move to the SEC. Adding a player like Overton would put the Sooners in great shape with their future move on the horizon.

Five-star 2022 DL Lebbeus Overton schedules pair of official visits

Five-star 2022 defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton is taking official visits to Ohio State and Oklahoma in April.

Lebbeus Overton made the decision to reclassify from the class of 2023 to the class of 2022 in February. Now, he’s taking the steps necessary to bring his recruitment to an end.

The five-star defensive lineman out of Milton High School in Georgia has scheduled official visits with Ohio State and Oklahoma, according to 247Sports. The Buckeyes, Sooners, Georgia, Oregon and Texas A&M are the main contenders to land Overton right now.

Overton is slated to visit Oregon for the first time this weekend. Georgia is next on the docket with a trip to Athens scheduled for March 20 and a trip to Texas A&M on March 25 will follow.

Overton was the top-ranked recruit in the class of 2023 before his reclassification into 2022. The 6-foot-4.5, 265-pound defensive lineman is now the No. 18 recruit in the nation, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings.

“Good height and length with a projectable frame that fits varying roles in multiple fronts,” 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks wrote in his scouting report of Overton. “Strong overall athletic profile that includes two-way snaps. Also a good basketball player with sport-specific skill and some explosive athleticism that manifests on the court and the gridiron. Proven combine athleticism with encouraging testing numbers.”

Spring recruiting party: Updated list of prospects visiting Oregon Ducks this weekend

Some really big names are coming to Eugene for recruiting visits this weekend. Here’s an updated tracker of players expected on campus.

After the recruiting dead period was lifted following the month of February, the Oregon Ducks have hit the ground running when trying to attract some of the best prospects in the nation and sell them on what Dan Lanning and Co. are starting in Eugene.

Last weekend, we saw a handful of incredibly talented players flock to Eugene to take both official and unofficial visits to Oregon, and on this second weekend in March, the Ducks are taking it much a notch.

The list of confirmed visitors is still growing, but already we can confidently say that it is among the biggest recruiting weekends of the spring for the Ducks, who will play host to a number of high-profile players in the 2022 class, as well as the 2023 and 2024 classes as well. On top of that, there is even an all-Pac-12 pass-rusher coming to town fresh off of his transfer from the UCLA Bruins.

So who can we expect to see in Eugene this weekend? Here is an updated list:
