73 days until Alabama football kicks off the 2024 season

Alabama football will kickoff the 2024 season in just 73 days!

In 73 days, Kalen DeBoer will usher in a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide football, replacing the legendary [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] as head coach in Tuscaloosa.

Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31 to kick off the 2024 college football season inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will count down the days until Alabama football takes the field.

Today, with just 73 days remaining, we will take a look at one of the best at Alabama to wear No. 73, [autotag]Evan Neal[/autotag].

Neal was a day-one starter for Alabama as a freshman in 2019. Neal would get starts at right guard, right tackle, and left tackle during his career in Tuscaloosa. Neal was selected with the No. 7 overall selection during the 2022 NFL draft by the New York Giants.

Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Olaus Alinen currently wears No. 73 for the Crimson Tide.

Jalen Milroe among this week’s Alabama football Student-Athletes of the Week

Jalen Milroe headlines this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week!

The Alabama football team kicked off the fourth quarter program this week and is now just a handful of days away from the start of spring practice.

As the players begin to prepare for spring football, their classroom duties remain the same and the football program has officially announced this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week.

Headlining this week’s recipients is Crimson Tide redshirt junior quarterback Jalen Milroe. Joining Milroe is a pair of second-year players. Offensive lineman Olaus Alinen and linebacker Qua Russaw.

Milroe is the current clubhouse leader to be the Tide’s signal caller in 2024 while Alinen and Russaw will most likely be providing solid depth for Alabama in Kalen DeBoer’s first season as Alabama’s head coach.

Congratulations to these three young men for their accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom!

Alabama football names its Student-Athletes of the Week

Lockwood, Alinen, and Smith earn this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week!

As the 2023 SEC media days wrap up on Thursday from Nashville, Tennessee, the Alabama football team announced this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week.

This week’s recipients are freshman tight end Ty Lockwood, freshman offensive lineman Olaus Alinen, and junior defensive back DeVonta Smith.

Lockwood is entering his first season with the Crimson Tide and although he has a promising future, Lockwood doesn’t project to be a part of the primary rotation at tight end this fall.

Alinen is a large freshman offensive lineman who is a native of Finland and has worked his way into the second-team offensive line. While it is not likely that Alinen becomes a starter in 2023, his is almost certainly going to be a factor moving forward.

Smith is a talented defensive back who has seen playing time mostly on special teams. Smith was expected to compete for a starting spot in the defensive backfield in 2023, but an injury sidelined him this spring and has put him behind some other options. But I wouldn’t count out Smith having a role this fall.

Congratulations to these young men for their outstanding work in the classroom and on the gridiron.

Today we will wrap up our position breakdowns with the offensive line.

Let’s roll!

2023 4-star OL Olaus Alinen officially signs with Crimson Tide

Olaus Alinen, the 4-star OL, is the first member of the 2023 class to sign on with the Crimson Tide!

The early signing period is upon us as the 2023 recruiting class puts pen to paper and makes their once-verbal commitments official. The Crimson Tide’s first national letter of intent signed is by four-star offensive lineman Olaus Alinen.

Alinen has been committed to Alabama since July of 2022 and has not wavered in his intent to play in Tuscaloosa.

He held offers from other prominent programs such as Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Miami. However, he was firm in wanting to be a member of the Crimson Tide and play under Nick Saban.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman is originally from Finland, but has been playing high school ball in Connecticut.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover early signing day and which prospect will be joining the Crimson Tide.

Alabama commit Olaus Alinen pushing for two of his HS teammates to join him at Alabama

Alabama OL commit Olaus Alinen is pushing for two of his high school teammates to join him in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has already begun to recruit prospects for the 2024 recruiting class. In fact, the Crimson Tide already have three hard commits for the class thus far. However, one 2023 commit, Olaus Alinen, is pushing for more to join him in Tuscaloosa. Specifically, he tagged twin brothers and high school teammates Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith in a tweet.

Alinen attends Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. He committed to Alabama back in July. Now, he is pushing for the Smith twins to land in Alabama.

The Smith brothers received offers from Alabama back in January. They are both a part of the 2024 recruiting cycle. Altogether, the two have received 47 offers. That is relatively impressive considering they haven’t begun their junior season of high school.

Jerod is listed at 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, according to 247Sports. It is likely that he will put on some additional weight before playing at the college level. If that is the case, he would likely play along the interior of the defensive line.

On the other hand, Jacob has the ideal size to play as an edge rusher at the next level. He is listed at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds. The Alabama coaching staff likes the two of them and will continue to follow both during their junior seasons at Loomis Chaffee School.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to track Alabama football recruiting news.

Ohio State misses out on four-star offensive lineman, Olaus Alinen

Ohio State lost one of its priority recruiting targets today. On to the next one … #GoBucks

After a ton of momentum in the 2023 recruiting class, Ohio State has had some disappointing news as of late. OSU missed out on one of its priority linebacker recruits when Tackett Curtis chose USC over the Buckeyes, followed by running back Justice Haynes to Alabama over OSU, and now this.

On Friday, 4-star offensive tackle Olaus Alinen didn’t choose Ohio State, instead electing to give his verbal commitment to Alabama. There’s no doubt that it was a blow to a class that to date is still ranked as the No. 1 class in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Alinen is ranked as the No. 122 overall prospect and 14th offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite. It began to look like Alabama had pulled ahead for his services, but there was still plenty of optimism about him electing to play his college football for Ohio State, but that will now no longer be the case, notwithstanding a change in heart before signing day.

Onward and upward as they say. There is still plenty of big fish out there for Ohio State to land, and it would sure help to get one of those in the recruiting net soon to polish off a class that will almost assuredly finish in the top five again.

Alabama lands 2023 four-star OT Olaus Alinen

Alabama gains a MASSIVE commitment from one of the most sought after OL in the 2023 class!

Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide are off to a dominant start on the 2023 recruiting trail, and things continue to heat up with a commitment from four-star OT Olaus Alinen.

Alinen is a 6’6, 315-pound elite lineman from The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT. He is the No. 14 offensive tackle in the class and was also heavily recruited by Ohio State, UGA and Miami. Alinen was also in Tuscaloosa the same weekend as the recent QB commit, Eli Holstein.

This was a key commitment for Alabama, as Alinen’s interest in the Crimson Tide had seemingly wavered, with predictions of him leaning toward Miami surfaced in the last few weeks.

He announced his commitment via Twitter.

Alabama Morning Drive: Decision day for four-star OT Olaus Alinen

Alabama could have another big day on the recruiting trail.

Good morning, Tide fans! Welcome to our Friday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope each of you has had a good week as dive into the weekend.

July has become commitment month for a majority of the nation’s top prospects in the class of 2023. The next man up is four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Olaus Alinen [/autotag] who will make his commitment a little later this morning around 8:00 a.m. CT. You can stream Alinen’s commitment on CBS Sports HQ.

Alinen is originally from Finland but has played his high school ball in the state of Connecticut. Alinen is a consensus four-star prospect and has narrowed his list of schools down to Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Oregon.

It appears that Alabama and Miami have pulled away from the rest of the pack and over the last few days all the momentum has shifted towards [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide. On3’s RPM has Alabama with an 80.7% chance of landing the talented tackle prospect.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories to follow this morning!
