Ohio State football offers 4-star 2023 receiver from Florida

The Ohio State football staff offered a scholarship to 4-star 2023 receiver Carnell Tate out of IMG Academy in Florida.

You know by now that the recruiting cycles overlap. Just when one is being put to bed, the other is getting off the ground. Even more than that, the following year’s crop is being game-planned and organized. It’s just the nature of the beast at a school like Ohio State.

With that in mind, OSU has started to offer some of the 2023 prospects out there. The latest is one of the top wide receivers in the entire class out of IMG Academy in Florida, 4-star Carnell Tate. It’s still early, but he’s already ranked as the No. 7 receiver and 47th prospect overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He announced the offer on his Twitter account and appeared to be over the moon, calling Ohio State his dream school.

Tate already has offers from a lot of the big boys out there including Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, and more. That means the competition for his services will be heavy, but with OSU being called out as his dream school, you have to like the Buckeyes’ chances.

We’ll keep tracking this as the efforts on his recruitment continue.

Georgia overtakes Ohio State for top spot in 247Sports 2022 team recruiting rankings

Ohio State has fallen out of the top team recruiting spot according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings. The new leader is Georgia.

It’s not by a wide margin, but theĀ Georgia Bulldogs have officially reeled in Ohio State and surpassed the Buckeyes for the top spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings for 2022. The Buckeyes have had a lock on the top spot almost since when the rankings were first being tracked.

However, the Bulldogs have been closing fast as of late, and with a flurry of commitments at the end of March, UGA now owns the top spot. OSU had been hanging on but hasn’t seen a commitment since February 28, all while Georgia pulled in three recruits in almost succession. First, five-star athlete Malaki Starks committed on 03/25, followed closely by four-star OLB Jalon walker on 03/28, and then four-star running back Jordan James on 03/29. The Dawgs also added a punter from Pro-Kick Australia on 03/31.

As a result, Georgia now has 241.09 points followed closely by Ohio State’s 238.72. It must be noted that OSU still holds the lead in average rating (95.72 to 94.24) and has one less commitment than the Bulldogs do (12 to 11).

Don’t worry though Buckeye fans. There’s still plenty of big fish in the recruiting pond OSU is in the running for, and plenty of time left to overtake the underachieving recruiting machine that Georgia has been as of late.

Ohio State Buckeye Football Commit Earns Alpha Dog Honors

Five-Star Ohio State quarterback commit Quinn Ewers had a fantastic weekend, earning Alpha Dog honors at the Elite 11 Dallas Regional.

All the noise around the Ohio State football program has been around the 2021 quarterback battle and rightfully so. It should not be forgotten that the future of the program might possibly still be in high school.

There is a five-star gunslinger out of Texas that is making waves and has been named by some as the best high school quarterback in recent memory. Ohio State commitĀ Quinn Ewers made yet another splash over the weekend when he was given Alpha Dog honors by 247Sports for his outstanding play in the Elite 11 Dallas Regional Camp.

Ewers has many of the traits that Ryan Day and the Ohio State staff look for in an elite quarterback with perfect velocity to spray the ball all over the field, the ability to throw the football from various angles and the athleticism to get himself out of trouble. It will be interesting to keep an eye on Ewers during his senior season.

It’s just another signal-caller that has begun to look at Ryan Day and Ohio State to develop into an NFL prospect.

UGA football offers 4-star DE Luke Montgomery

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to defensive end prospect Luke Montgomery, who is a four-star recruit

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to class of 2023 defensive end prospect Luke Montgomery, a four-star recruit. Montgomery plays for Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio.

Luke Montgomery is ranked No. 65 overall among the rising junior class. The four-star defensive end is 6 feet, 5 inches and weighs 260 pounds.

It will be tough to wrestle Montgomery away from the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State is an elite recruiting program and seldom lets a top prospect leave the state. In fact, the Buckeyes secured commitments from the top four in-state prospects in the class of 2021. Montgomery took a visit to Columbus, Ohio, for Ohio State’s recent spring game.

Overall, the Findlay High School star has over 20 scholarship offers, including Nebraska, LSU, Florida, Duke, FSU, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

Luke Montgomery received an offer from the University of Georgia football program on April 7.

Four-star offensive tackle picks Kentucky over Ohio State, others

Late last week, four-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin announced his commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats over Ohio State.

There aren’t too many football prospects that decide to play for the Kentucky Wildcats over what Ohio State and other big boys have going on right now, but that’s exactly what happened late last week when four-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin committed to Kentucky over the likes of Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson.

At 6-foot, 7-inches, and 300-pounds, Goodwin was ranked as the No. 7 offensive tackle and 54th overall prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. It would have been a nice addition for the Buckeyes, but the writing seemed to be on the wall as of late that he was leaning towards the Wildcats.

But all is not lost. According to at leastĀ one report out there by Eleven Warriors, the OSU coaching staff still believes they have a shot to flip Goodwin back to considering Ohio State and will continue to recruit him. He is still planning on taking all of his official visits, and we’ve seen more than a few recruits change their minds when getting on campuses and suddenly falling in love with things they never saw coming.

Ohio State has pulled off more than its fair share of flips in that department as well, so stay tuned. For now, though, Goodwin is headed to the Bluegrass State.

Ohio State in top five for four-star offensive lineman

Ohio State is in the running for a four-star offensive lineman out of Texas, and has made his top five.

Ohio State has made the shortlist of another top 100 talent in the country. Kam Dewberry is the No. 9 rated offensive tackle in the country according to 247 Sports composite rankings, and gave his final five via his personal Twitter account.

Dewberry is from Humble, Texas, and is already a grown man at 6-feet, 4- inches, weighing in at 313-pounds. The Buckeyes already have a commitment from Tegra Tshabola and is the crystal ball favorite for another top-rated prospect in Aamil Wagner. Should Dewberry pick OSU, he would become the highest-rated offensive lineman in the Bucks 2022 class thus far.

Joining Ohio State as finalists to land Dewberry’s services are Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.

As of now, 247 Sports has Texas A&M as the favorite to land Dewberry in their crystal ball predictions. However, the confidence level isn’t all that high, with only one expert picking the Aggies with a 6 out of 10 confidence level. Ā There’s a long way to go so it’s good for Ohio State to still be in the running.

Five-Star defensive end puts Ohio State in top ten and schedules visit for June

Five-star defensive end Omari Abor has listed Ohio State in his top ten and is scheduled to visit Columbus on June 4.

Ohio State has been churning out defensive ends like candy bars at a chocolate factory for quite some time now. If you’re one of the top-rated edge rushers in high school, why wouldn’t you consider becoming a Buckeye?

Well, the No. 2 rated defensive end and No. 23 overall rated player in the country, according to 247 Sports composite rankings, did just that recently putting Ohio State in his top ten. Omari Abor is a five-star out of Duncanville, Texas, and has all the big boys drooling.

Joining the Buckeyes on Abor’s trimmed list are Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, and Southern Cal. Recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks says Abor is a first-round talent and compares to NFL defensive end Bradley Chubb of the Denver Broncos.

At this point, Abor is crystal balled to Oklahoma, but that could all change now that the dead period has been lifted beginning June 1. The young edge rusher is scheduled to visit Columbus on June 4.

NCAA to reportedly end recruiting dead period

After over one year, the NCAA is reportedly set to announce an end to the recruiting dead period beginning on June 1. Let the fun begin.

And they all rejoiced.

It looks like the NCAA is finally going to end the recruiting dead period that was has been imposed for over a year. Things were first put on the shelf back on March 13, just as the coronavirus was taking hold and the sporting world ground to a halt.

According to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic, the vote by the NCAA’s Division I Council has already occurred to lift the dead period, but it won’t be announced until the end of the meetings on Thursday. The current timeline runs through May 31, and it is expected that high school prospects will be able to take official and unofficial visits with face-to-face contact with coaches beginning on June 1.

For Ohio State, there is one big fish in particular that it would love to get to campus, and that is five-star defensive endĀ J.T. Tuimoloau out of Washington State. You know it well by now, but he’s a consensus top-three prospect in the 2021 class but remains uncommitted because of his desire to visit Ohio State and other places. You can bet that OSU will try to roll out the red carpet for him sometime quickly after the dead period is lifted.

It should be interesting to see how the Buckeye recruiting staff handles what could be a flood of potential visitors this spring and summer. It will be an unprecedented volume of recruits most likely all while the program is going through summer conditioning and ramping up for the start of fall camp.

Let the fun begin.
