Packers QB Jordan Love named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 18

For the second consecutive week, Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

For the second consecutive week, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He first earned the award for producing four total touchdowns in a 33-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17, and he won it again after completing 27 of 32 passes for 316 yards and a passer rating of 128.6 in the Packers’ playoff-clinching win over the Chicago Bears in Week 18.

Love set new season highs in completion percentage (84.4) and passer rating. He finished first in completion percentage, fourth in passing yards and third in passer rating among NFC quarterbacks in Week 18.

Love threw only five incompletions, including two that could have resulted in touchdowns.

The win was the team’s 10th in a row over the Bears and also clinched a playoff berth for the Packers as the No. 7 seed in the NFC.

Love is the first player in Packers history to be named NFC Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers won the award 31 total times but never in back-to-back weeks. Love is also the first quarterback since Jalen Hurts in 2022 to win the award in back-to-back weeks.

Over Weeks 17 and 18, Love completed 51 of 65 passes for 572 yards, five touchdown passes, zero interceptions and a passer rating of 129.0. He finished his first season as the Packers starter with 32 touchdown passes, 36 total touchdowns and a passer rating of 96.1.

Love and the Packers take on the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Round on Sunday.

Brock Purdy named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Brock Purdy is the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Brock Purdy’s perfect day vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was enough to earn him his first NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Purdy was sensational in San Francisco’s 27-14 Week 11 victory. He completed 21-of-25 throws for 333 yards and three touchdowns. His perfect 158.3 passer rating was the 22nd ever by an NFL QB with 25-plus attempts. Purdy is also the first 49ers QB to hit that passer rating mark since Joe Montana and Steve Young both did it in 1989.

This is the first time a player of the week honor has been bestowed upon the 49ers QB. He’s the first player not named Christian McCaffrey to win the OPOW award for San Francisco this season.

Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb named NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week

From @ToddBrock24f7: Lamb caught 11 passes for 151 yards and added another score as a rusher. He’s the third Cowboy to win a weekly award this season.

When you do something that no player in the history of the National Football League has ever done, some extra recognition is appropriate.

After catching nearly everything that came his way in the Cowboys’ 49-17 rout of the Giants, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has also caught a spiffy new award for his trophy case. Lamb was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Lamb’s 11-catch, 151-yard outing on Sunday made him the first player to ever string together three consecutive games of over 10 receptions and 150-plus receiving yards. His receiving stats for that span are indeed eye-popping: 34 catches for 500 yards and three touchdowns, and that’s just since Oct. 29.

On the season, Lamb has put himself in the conversation for elite status. Here are his current statistical rankings in several key categories among all pass-catchers leaguewide:

Tgt Rec Yds 1stDwn Rec/Gm Yds/Gm
CeeDee Lamb 13th 6th 3rd 5th 5th 4th

Lamb added to his impressive showing versus New York last week by also rushing for a touchdown, his first since his rookie season of 2020.

The former first-round draft pick out of Oklahoma is on pace for 129 receptions, which would be a career-best. He’s also tracking toward 1,841 yards, a number that would rank as the NFL’s fifth-highest single-season total ever.

This is the first time Lamb has received the weekly award, and the first time a Cowboy has been so honored since Amari Cooper won it twice in a three-week span in 2018.

Linebacker Micah Parsons won Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2; kicker Brandon Aubrey took home the Special Teams Player of the Week prize for Week 9.

Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Miami’s RB earns some well-deserved honors.

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert has been a monster through the first six weeks of the season, as he’s helped his team start 5-1 in Mike McDaniel’s second campaign.

On Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Mostert recorded another 115 yards and two touchdowns on 6.8 yards per attempt while adding another 17 yards and a score on three receptions.

That performance was strong enough for the 31-year-old to earn AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. This is his first time receiving the award, but the third time this season that a Dolphin has won it (Tua Tagovailoa in Week 1 and De’Von Achane in Week 3).

For the year, Mostert is already up to 429 yards rushing, and he leads the NFL rushing touchdowns with nine.

If he keeps up this he’ll blow past his career-high in rushing yards (891 last year), and he’s already set a new career-high in touchdowns.

Raiders last opponent wins NFL Offensive Player of the Week, next opponent won DPOY

Facing the Raiders’ defense was just what Josh Allen needed to rebound and win OPOY. Next the Raiders offense gets to face the reigning DPOY.

By any measure, Josh Allen had a rough opening week to the season. He threw three interceptions and the Bills lost to the Jets in overtime despite losing starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the fourth play of the game.

All that turned around for Allen last Sunday when the Bills welcomed the Raiders to town. Allen then went on a tear, throwing for three touchdowns and no interceptions while completing nearly 84% of his passes in a 38-10 route of the Raiders.

That effort has won Allen Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week two.

There was a similar experience with the Steelers, who were flattened by the 49ers in the opener 30-7, but who rebounded in Week two to pull out a 22-9 win over the Browns.

Only the Steelers resurgence came on defense.

This effort was led by linebacker Alex Highsmith who had a pick six and a forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown.

That effort earned Highsmith Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week two.

Highsmith and the Steelers’ next stop is Las Vegas as they are the Raiders’ opponent in their home opener Week 3.

Coming with him is TJ Watt, who leads the NFL in sacks (four) and QB hits (nine) in the first two games of the season.

The offense for the Steelers is an entirely different story. As they have easily the worst offense in the league right now.

So, it will be a battle between the Raiders defense which leads to OPOY winners against the NFL’s worst offense and the Raiders’ so-so offense against the Steelers elite defense.

Cowboys RB Tony Pollard named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

The “backup” running back rolled in Minnesota, with his 189 scrimmage yards and two big touchdowns earning him his first weekly award. | From @ToddBrock24f7

After working largely in Ezekiel Elliott’s shadow for the majority of his three-plus seasons as a Dallas Cowboy, Tony Pollard is finally getting his fair share of the spotlight.

Pollard was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for his standout performance in Week 11’s dominating win over the Vikings. He rushed for 80 yards on just 15 carries and added another 109 yards and two explosive touchdowns on six receptions to earn his first weekly honor since being drafted in the fourth round out of Memphis back in 2019.

Not bad for a guy who got “demoted” after being the team’s starter in the previous two games.

Pollard took the bulk of the backfield snaps in Weeks 8 and 10, with Elliott nursing a hyperextended knee. In those contests, he tied a new career high in rushing yards, set a new personal best in rushing attempts, and notched his first three-touchdown game (something not even Elliott has done).

Yet it was Elliott, leg brace and all, who was on the field for the offense’s opening snap this past Sunday in Minnesota.

Pollard and Elliott maintain that neither cares who “starts,” because they know they provide a one-two punch that few opponents know how to counter.

Both got 15 rushing attempts in Week 11.

“We feel like as long as we can keep each other in and out, fresh on the field, keeping the defenses guessing and not knowing what to prepare for,” Pollard said this week. “We feel like we have the advantage.”

Pollard is currently 11th in the league with 701 rushing yards but has the second-highest yards-per-carry average (5.9) of any running back with over 100 carries on the year. Factor in his receiving yards, and his per-touch average goes up to 6.8. That’s good enough for 13th place in the NFL in a category where nine of the top 10 are big-play wide receivers.

It’s the first weekly award for a Cowboys offensive player on the season; Micah Parsons took defensive honors after his Week 5 outing versus the Rams.

As noted by the team website, perhaps more surprising than Pollard’s win is that someone other Brett Maher took home the Special Teams Player of the Week trophy. Three of Maher’s four field goals in Dallas’s 40-3 rout came from 50 yards or farther, and he actually hit his 60-yarder twice, after officials blew a late whistle to initiate a replay review.

Pollard will look to keep his hot streak going Thursday against a 7-3 Giants team that’s giving up an average of 5.3 yards per carry (second-worst in the league) and is currently decimated by injuries.

True Freshmen earn Big 12 weekly honors for their performance against Texas Tech

For their performance in the 52-21 win over Texas Tech, two Oklahoma Sooners true freshmen earned Big 12 weekly honors.

Everything went right for the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Offensively, this was the most explosive they’ve looked in a couple of years, and defensively, they were disruptive and opportunistic as they forced three Texas Tech turnovers.

For their performances in this game, Caleb Williams (Offensive Player of the Week) and Mario Williams (Newcomer of the Week) earned Big 12 weekly honors.

Caleb Williams was incredible on Saturday throwing for 402 yards and six touchdowns. He was six of seven on throws 20 or more yards down the field for 218 yards and three touchdowns. All six of his touchdown throws came on passes more than 10 yards down the field. He’s accounted for 18 touchdowns this season (14 passing and 4 rushing) and seems to get better every single week.

This is the second offensive player of the week honor that Caleb Williams has been awarded this season. He was also given the newcomer of the week award for his performance against the Texas Longhorns.

Mario Williams came back from an injury that kept him out of the Kansas game and made some huge plays and incredible catches in the Sooners win. Williams caught five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, averaging 20 yards per reception.

The true freshman wide receiver had an average depth of target (aDot) of 14.7 yards on his six targets to help provide another explosive option in the passing game next to Marvin Mims. It was just the second time this season that his aDot averaged more than 10 yards in a game. Against Tech, Williams showed the promise that was on display in the Spring game as well as Fall camp.

The Oklahoma Sooners offense has been dynamic since Caleb Williams took over in the Texas game. Their downfield passing game has taken off and the team has scored 50 or more points in three of their last four games.

With true freshmen providing the bulk of the offense on Saturday, the future is bright in Norman with Caleb Williams and Mario Williams on the attack.

Cowboys’ Dak Prescott named Offensive Player of the Week for record day vs Patriots

Dak Prescott threw for more yards against the Patriots under Bill Belichick than any QB in history, earning him the award for the 4th time. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys offense amassed 567 total net yards in Sunday’s overtime heartstopper in New England. That’s an impressive number against any professional club, but it’s uniquely rare coming against a Bill Belichick-coached squad.

In fact, that’s the most yardage that a Belichick defense has ever allowed in a game in which he’s been either a head coach or defensive coordinator. That’s 619 games. More than 38 16-game seasons.

It seems like someone should win an award for that. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has.

Prescott was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for his lights-out performance in Week 6. He went 36-of-51 for 445 passing yards and three touchdowns, including the walk-off game winner in overtime to CeeDee Lamb.

That mark of 445 passing yards represents the most ever recorded against the Patriots under Belichick.

The award is quite a way to punctuate a game in which Prescott didn’t even look sharp for much of it. His end-zone interception and goal-line fumble, both in the second quarter, kept the score much closer at intermission than it probably should have been, given the Cowboys’ statistical advantage in most other categories up to that point.

Prescott was thoroughly dominant in the second half, just as he has been overall during his comeback campaign after missing most of last season due to injury. After six weeks in 2021, he ranks fifth in the NFL with 1,813 passing yards and is just seven thousandths of a percentage point behind Arizona’s Kyler Murray for the best completion percentage among regular starting quarterbacks. His touchdown total (16) and passer rating (115.0) also place him among the league leaders.

It’s the fourth time Prescott has won this award in his career.

Sam Ehlinger named Big 12 offensive player of the week

To commemorate Sam Ehlinger’s historic night against UTEP, the quarterback has been named the Big 12 football offensive player of the week.

Sam Ehlinger had a historic night on Saturday, going for 426 passing yards and five touchdowns. All but four of the yards came in the first half, setting school records in both yards and touchdowns in a single half.

To commemorate the quarterback’s night against UTEP, Ehlinger has been named the Big 12 football offensive player of the week. In what was a lousy week for the conference as a whole, Ehlinger stole the national spotlight with his performance.

Mike Yurcich’s offense seems to fit Ehlinger perfectly, despite it only being the first game. The Sept. 26 matchup against Texas Tech will be another test to see if the Longhorns can do it consistently.

On Sunday, Ehlinger was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week. The Big 12 honor marks his second weekly award of the 2020 season.

Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler could have been seen as the only competition to Ehlinger for the award. However, the redshirt sophomore only threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns. The two quarterbacks are setting up for an exciting Red River Shootout on Oct. 10.

Texas QB Sam Ehlinger named Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week

The Walter Camp Foundation named Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger the Offensive Player of the Week. He had a monster night in Austin.

Saturday was a big night for Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Some feel that he can put on a Heisman worthy campaign this year and it was off to a roaring start. So much so that he was named Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.

Comp Att YPA Yards TD INT Rating
25 33 12.9 426 5 0 234.2

The 426 yards passing and five touchdown passes were both career highs for the senior from Austin, Texas. Which says a lot about the new offensive scheme under Mike Yurcich since Ehlinger did most of that damage in the first half while building a 45-3 lead.

This marked the second time in Ehlinger’s career that he was named Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week. The last time it came when Ehlinger led the Longhorns offense to 386 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in their 48-45 win over Oklahoma.

According to the release by Texas Athletics, Ehlinger is the second Big 12 quarterback to throw for 420 yards and five touchdowns in an opening week win. Will Grier (WVU) was the last to do it in 2018. Ehlinger could be in store for big things this year, with how the offense looked in week one.

Next up for Ehlinger and the offense is Texas Tech on Sept. 26. The Red Raiders defense was torched by Houston Baptist to the tune of 572 passing yards and 600 yards of total offense. HBU had three receivers go for 100 yards or more. Which included Caden Sterns’ younger brothers. Josh and Jerreth combined for 17 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns.

If Yurcich keeps with the same style of gameplan versus Tech, look for Ehlinger to put up monster numbers again in two weeks.
