Notre Dame interested in son of UGA legend Thomas Davis

Notre Dame football is targeting Thomas Davis’s son, who is an elite recruit.

Class of 2026 four-star recruit Thomas Davis Jr. is gaining significant interest from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, according to Collin Ginnan of On3. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Meter, the Irish have a 94.7% chance in nabbing the recruit.

Davis Jr. is a keystone of an awesome defense at Weddington High School in Matthews, North Carolina. He plays with four-star recruit Trajen Odom, committed to Ohio State, junior four-star defensive lineman Aiden Harris, and four-star edge rusher Andrew Harris. Regardless, Davis Jr. has made a name for himself, racking up 123 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, and two sacks, earning a 90 rating on 247Sports and ranking as the seventh-best player in North Carolina.

UGA fans should recognize that name, as his father Thomas Davis Sr. was a stalwart linebacker for the Bulldogs in the early 2000s. In his three years at Georgia, he was selected to the First All-SEC Team in 2003 and 2004 and earned a Consensus All-American selection in 2004.

Davis turned a great college career into a solid pro career. After being drafted in the first round by the Carolina Panthers in 2005, he played in the league for 15 years as a solid rush linebacker and made three Pro Bowls. He earned an All-Pro selection in 2015 and was a crucial part of the Panther’s Super Bowl run in 2015. He also established himself as a leader, earning the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2014 and the Bart Starr award in 2016.

It’s great for Davis Jr. to have a mentor and a connection like Davis Sr., and if Georgia were to recruit him, they’d have significant leverage.

Also, stay tuned for a Fighting Irish Wire exclusive interview with 2021 offensive line commit Pat Coogan tomorrow.

UGA recruiting: hometown WR Deion Colzie makes commitment

Four-star wide receiver Deion Colzie of Athens Academy has committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Wide receiver Deion Colzie decommitted from Notre Dame back in March and reopened his recruitment. Colzie is a member of the class of 2021 and has now re-affirmed his commitment to the Fighting Irish.

Colzie plays for Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia, and is probably the best hometown prospect for the Georgia Bulldogs this year. Colzie is rated as a four-star recruit.

Per 247Sports, Georgia was a slight crystal ball favorite to land Colzie. Three of the six favored of the Bulldogs earlier in Sept. on Colzie’s 247Sports profile page.  Will Colzie stick the Fighting Irish for good or later flip to his hometown team, the Georgia Bulldogs?

Colzie ranks as the nation’s No. 84 overall prospect and as the No. 14 wide receiver in the 2021 class.

The Athens recruit released his top 10 via Twitter several months ago. He put Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, Virginia, Florida and Alabama among his top schools.

Kirby Smart and Georgia will have to hope to keep the hometown kid in Athens via a last minute flip. UGA currently has two commitments from wide receivers in the class of 2021: Adonai Mitchell and Jackson Meeks.

Best of luck to Colzie with the Fighting Irish. I wouldn’t rule out a flip at this point, but for now, Colzie’s committed to Notre Dame.

Four-star LB Prince Kollie makes commitment

Talented 2021 outside linebacker Prince Kollie has committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over UGA and more.

Georgia Bulldogs fans will be disappointment because talented 2021 outside linebacker Prince Kollie has committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Kollie is a four-star recruit who plays high school football for David Crockett in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

Kollie picked Notre Dame over Georgia, LSU, Louisville, and Oklahoma.

Kollie was projected to commit to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, so his decision isn’t shocking. He announced his decision in a video on Twitter.

Congratulations to Kollie, who should have a bright college football future ahead of him. Georgia offered Kollie back in April, but it wasn’t enough to earn a commitment from him. The four-star linebacker was a touted recruit and received interest from some of the top college football programs in the nation.

Dawg fans shouldn’t give up hope on Prince Kollie because Kirby Smart is an elite recruiter. In fact, Smart has flipped a couple of commitments already this cycle.

The Dawgs have gotten the better of the Irish in their two recent meetings on the field. Unfortunately, that doesn’t assure Dan Lanning and Kirby Smart that Kollie will commit to UGA.

Kollie has great athleticism for a 6-foot-1-inch linebacker and should earn playing time wherever he ends up.

Georgia offered Kollie back in April. He has received interest from major college football programs including Alabama, LSU, FSU, and Notre Dame.

We will update fans on Kollie’s commitment, which is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. this evening (August 7, 2020).

Georgia football the favorite to land 4-star Athens WR Deion Colzie?

Georgia Bulldogs appear to be the leader for 4-star Athens WR Deion Colzie.

In March, four-star 2021 wide receiver Deion Colzie, out of Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia, decommitted from Notre Dame and reopened his recruitment.

Though Kirby Smart and the UGA coaching staff cannot recruit Colzie in person for the time being, it sounds as though Georgia is doing everything right in order to land the 6-foot-4-inch local prospect.

Per 247Sports, Georgia has become the crystal ball favorite to land Colzie. Four out of the six favor of the Bulldogs on Colzie’s 247Sports profile page. Notre Dame has the other two.

Colzie ranks as the nation’s No. 46 overall prospect and as the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2021 class.

I would be shocked if Georgia was unable to secure a commitment from a local kid with that much talent.
