Florida Gators football schedules home-and-home with North Carolina State

The Florida Gators and North Carolina State Wolfpack announced via Twitter a future home-and-home series on Thursday between the two schools

The Florida Gators and North Carolina State Wolfpack announced a future home-and-home series on Thursday.

Both schools shared the news on their official Twitter accounts.

The series will begin in 2026 with the Gators making the trip to Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, and the Wolfpack traveling to Gainesville in 2032 to complete the two-game set.

These two programs have met 14 times before, with the last meeting coming in the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Eve in 1992. Florida won that contest, 27-10, and holds a 9-4-1 all-time advantage.

A member of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s (ACC) Atlantic Division, North Carolina State is coached by Dave Doeren, who is entering his eighth season at the helm.

After leading the Wolfpack to five-straight bowl appearances from 2014-18, the program limped to a 4-8 record a year ago. Doeren’s squad is scheduled to begin the 2020 campaign on September 2 with a road divisional clash against the Louisville Cardinals, followed by hosting a Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, in their home-opener on September 12.

Set to begin the third year of his tenure, Dan Mullen’s Gators are slated to host the Eastern Washington Eagles in their season-opener on September 5.

In addition to their annual rivalry with the Florida State Seminoles, Florida has one other ACC foe on their upcoming non-conference schedule, a home-and-home with the Miami Hurricanes in 2024-25.

Notre Dame Football: Is Another Grad-Transfer in the Cards?

Notre Dame has added three grad-transfers ahead of the 2020 season. Could another still be on the way? Find out who that might just be.

Notre Dame has done a phenomenal job re-working their roster for 2020 by adding graduate-transfers who are eligible to play right away.

Isaiah Pryor, a former top-100 recruit to Ohio State figures to challenge for a starting safety spot while Bennett Skowronek, formerly of Northwestern should help in at least trying to replace Chase Claypool.

Yesterday it was former North Carolina State corner-back Nick McCloud committing to Notre Dame in 2020 as he figures to challenge for a starting spot immediately.

Is that it for Notre Dame in terms of grad-transfers and essentially rebuilding on the fly?  Not so fast.

Running back Trevor Speights, a Stanford graduate remains looking for a new home and has already listed Notre Dame as a finalist along with Rice.

Notre Dame isn’t in awful shape at running back but depth and certaintities are few and far between.  When you have that then its the more able-bodies the better.

Jafar Armstrong, Jahmir Smith and C’Blo Flemister figure to be in the running for playing time but there are plenty of questions about if any of those three can be a load type back.  Chris Tyree is a great recruiting win as well but figures to need to put on some weight and strength before he becomes a major player.

As it sits right now Notre Dame has 88 scholarships committed to the 2020 squad and will have to get 85 before the season kicks off, whenever that might actually be.

Watch: New Notre Dame Corner’s Career Highlights

Notre Dame added a new cornerback in grad-transfer Nick McCloud on Monday. See McCloud’s best highlights from North Carolina State here.

North Carolina State graduate transfer Nick McCloud announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday.  McCloud joins a secondary that will be going through an overhaul entering the 2021 season.

So what is Notre Dame getting in McCloud?  We could write about him all day.  In fact, Mike Chen already did after McCloud announced his commitment to Notre Dame earlier today.  When you’re done checking that out you can also check out McCloud’s highlight tape during his time at North Carolina State below.

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5hG3raHB4Q&w=560&h=315]

The former three-star recruit to North Carolina State had 105 tackles and three interceptions during his time with the Wolfpack.  McCloud played in just two games last season as the captain suffered a knee injury early on in the year.

The commitment of McCloud is the second big win for new defensive backs coach Mike Mickens in the past week as the Irish also landed a commitment from Philip Ryley from Florida.

Notre Dame Offers 2022 Florida Star Safety

Brian Kelly and Notre Dame became the 19th team to offer safety Devin Moore a scholarship Thursday. Find out more about the 3* safety here

Notre Dame continued their recent run of extending scholarship offers to the recruiting class of 2022 Thursday when they extended an offer to Naples, Florida safety Devin Moore.

Moore is listed at 6-2, 175 and attends Naples High School.  Notre Dame became the 19th football program to extend a scholarship offer to Moore, who also received offers from Nebraska and Virginia Tech in the last week.

Moore is listed as a three star safety according to 247 Sports.  They also rank him the 21st best safety in the 2022 class.  Notre Dame joins the likes of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech who are among the 19 total schools to have offered him.

For more information you can watch Moore’s sophomore year highlight tape here.

Titans showing interest in NC State DL Larrell Murchison

Murchison has also met with the New England Patriots, New York Giants, and New York Jets, among others.

The COVID-19 outbreak has had an inevitably negative effect on the NFL pre-draft process for 2020, but it hasn’t stopped players and teams from meeting electronically.

Like the rest of the 31 teams in the league, the Tennessee Titans have been holding FaceTime meetings with prospects, and one of the latest is North Carolina State defensive lineman, Larrell Murchison.

Murchison has also met with the New England Patriots, New York Giants, and New York Jets, among others, according to Justin Melo of Draft Wire.

The 6-foot-3, 291-pound lineman played two seasons for the Wolfpack and finished out 2019 with 48 total tackles (24 solo), seven sacks, two passes defensed and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Murchison recorded 82 tackles (40 solo), 11 sacks, four passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one interception during his college career.

He could function for a team like the Titans in a depth role, and is versatile enough to play in several places and be moved around, though he’s most solid as a pure run defender.

The Titans have met with multiple defensive lineman this offseason, and it will be interesting to see if the team adds Murchison to its roster later this month.

Badger moments: Wisconsin beats NC State in 2005 Sweet 16

Wisconsin to the Elite 8

One of the more subtle truths of sports — known by everyone but not always at the forefront of one’s mind — is that when a team plays a truly awful half, the opponent needs to make sure it takes full advantage. When one team plays terribly, it needs to pay a supreme price.

This truth is part of the story of how the Wisconsin Badgers led Bo Ryan to his first Elite 8 as UW’s head basketball coach.

At halftime of the 2005 East Regional semifinal in Syracuse, the North Carolina State Wolfpack led Wisconsin, 30-21. A nine-point lead is a solid lead, but it was far less than it could have been or — from a North Carolina State fan’s viewpoint — should have been.

Just how atrocious were the Badgers in that first half against N.C. State in the 2005 Sweet 16? Scoring only 21 points is enough of an indication of how awful that half was for UW, but the ultimate indicator was the comparison of Wisconsin assists to turnovers. The Badgers didn’t create ONE assist in that half, and they coughed up 11 turnovers. That is as bad as it gets, as bad as one could possibly imagine.

Yet, Wisconsin — after all of that — was down only nine. A minor miracle, truly.

They probably should have been down by 19.

When Wisconsin outscored North Carolina State by 18 points in the second half, UW had not suffered a narrow loss. It had won and won with some degree of comfort in spite of its terrible opening 20 minutes.

Wisconsin slapped a 44-26 second half on the Wolfpack, reeling off 13 straight points early in the half to take a lead and forging a 26-7 run at one point. The Badgers hounded North Carolina State’s star scorer, Julius Hodge, limiting him to 4-of-16 shooting from the field. Wisconsin hit 58 percent of its field goal attempts in the second half.

Alando Tucker hit 9 of 17 shots, scoring 22 efficient points for Wisconsin. Mike Wilkinson hit 5 of 8 shots and scored 17. Wisconsin had enough offense and plenty of defense, limiting NCSU to 38-percent shooting from the field. The Badgers made the Wolfpack pay for not building a much bigger lead at halftime. Bo Ryan, who had reached the Sweet 16 in 2003 but had not been able to come any closer to the Final Four, had finally reached the Elite Eight, moving Wisconsin closer to the center of the national conversation in college basketball.

Tim Beck to be hired as North Carolina State Offensive Coordinator

There are reports that Tim Beck will be leaving Texas to become OC at NCSU. The announcement will be made after tonight’s Alamo Bowl.

After the season finale against Texas Tech, the Longhorns announced that Tim Beck would be removed from his role as the offensive coordinator. He was kept on the staff as the quarterback coach.

Zach Barnett of footballscoop.com is reporting that Beck will be leaving Texas to accept the position as the offensive coordinator at North Carolina State. Currently in his third season with the Longhorns, the announcement will be made after tonight’s Alamo Bowl.

This will be Beck’s fourth offensive coordinator job in Divison 1 football. Previously the OC at Nebraska, the co-OC at Ohio State, and the job he just lost at Texas, Beck will take on a new conference in the ACC.

The Wolfpack are off a disappointing 4-8 season in which they only averaged 22 points per game. Playing in the ACC Coastal, Beck will be facing off against former Longhorn Head Coach Mack Brown every year.

NC State at Auburn odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s NC State Wolfpack at Auburn Tigers sports betting odds and lines, with NCAA basketball betting picks, tips and bets.

The NC State Wolfpack (8-2, 1-1 ACC) and Auburn Tigers 9-0, 0-0 SEC) tangle at Auburn Arena at 9 p.m. ET Thursday. We analyze the NC State-Auburn odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

NC State at Auburn: Three things you need to know

1. The Wolfpack have just two losses so far, falling by one point to Georgia Tech in overtime in the opener Nov. 5, and 83-78 at Memphis Nov. 28. Since the loss to Memphis, they’re 3-0 straight up and against the spread with wins over Wisconsin, Wake Forest and UNC-Greensboro.

2. Auburn is unbeaten, but it’s 0-2 ATS in the past two against Furman and St. Louis. The Tigers’ best win of the season might be a 10-point victory over Davidson Nov. 8, but their schedule hasn’t exactly been a gauntlet.

3. The Wolfpack enter 6-2 ATS in the past eight road games, and 4-1 ATS in the past five overall. The Tigers are just 2-5 ATS in the past seven at home, and they’re 0-4 ATS in the past four home games against a team with a winning road record.

Prediction

N.C. State 82, Auburn 80

Moneyline (ML)

NC STATE (+260) is an attractive value play with nearly a 3x return on your investment with a victory.

Against the Spread (ATS)

NC STATE (+8.5, -133) has been a cover kins, and it’s on a 3-0 SU/ATS run with impressive resume-building wins. Auburn (-8.5, +110) is one of four remaining teams in the nation with an unblemished record. However, the Tigers haven’t exactly been tested, and the Wolfpack will give them their best battle to date.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 151.5 (-115) is worth a look, cashing in 14 of the past 19 road outings for NC State, and five of the past seven overall. Auburn has hit the Over in five of its past six at home, too.
