Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the latest injury report with the media on Friday, finalizing the status of one of his veteran defensive linemen.

“As far as the injuries go, Mike (Danna) will be listed as out,” said Reid. “JuJu (Smith-Schuster) had a hamstring spasm yesterday but practiced today, so he will be listed as questionable, however, on the sheet there.”

Danna will miss his second game this season as he continues to deal with a pectoral injury that held him out of practice all week. The injury to “Smith-Schuster has sparked the possibility that practice squad receivers Justyn Ross or Nikko Remigio could be in the running for a roster elevation before Sunday. Reid has left the decision to the coaching staff as a wait-and-see scenario.

“We’ll see; I mean, we’re going to list him (JuJu Smith-Schuster) as questionable just in case something comes up,” said Reid, “but he did good today, so we’ll see how he does tomorrow, right? But he was good today.

The veteran receiver led the team in receiving during their Week 5 victory over the New Orleans Saints. He has seemingly fit back into his role from the 2022 season after Rashee Rice’s season-ending injury.

Fan-favorite Chiefs WR announces engagement

#Chiefs WR Nikko Remigio announced his engagement this week ahead of Kansas City’s Week 7 matchup against the San Francisco #49ers.

According to a social media post by Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Nikko Remigio, the former Fresno State Bulldog is getting engaged to girlfriend Maureen Schrijvers.

The fan-favorite wideout announced his engagement via Instagram on Tuesday with the caption “We did the thing” after popping the question on a beach during sunset.

Several Chiefs teammates, including wide receivers Mecole Hardman and Rashee Rice, congratulated Remigio on the exciting news.

The second-year receiver was a training camp standout in St. Joseph and may get a chance to see the field in Kansas City during the regular season if he is elevated from the Chiefs’ practice squad.

Though Remigio hasn’t yet gotten his chance to shine in Kansas City’s offense, injuries to Rashee Rice and Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown could push him into the limelight.

The injuries are racking up on the offensive side of the ball for the Kansas City Chiefs, and it’s carrying over to the special teams unit.

Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub spoke with the media on Friday about the possibility of Mecole Hardman being unavailable for Monday night after missing practice due to a knee injury. He mentioned several names that could fill in this week as the kick and punt returner.

“We have a number of guys that can do it; obviously, Nikko (Remigio) can do it, (Montrell) Washington could do it. Any of those two guys could possibly pop up if Mecole (Hardman) was down,” said Toub, and then obviously, we have other guys, I mean, (Xavier) Worthy to be a punt returner, Skyy Moore, we have a lot of guys. We have a lot of options there. “

Remigio, named one of the first options on Toub’s list in case Hardman is unavailable on Monday, aligns with the praise he received during training camp. He is currently listed on the practice squad but could be in line for a call-up over the next few hours to fill the role.

Second-year wide receiver Nikko Remigio has gained a cult following during the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp in St. Joseph and will get a chance to put his talents on display this weekend when the defending champions face the Jacksonville Jaguars in preseason action.

Though Remigio isn’t the most physically dominant pass-catcher, his ability to find open space against defenders and come down with difficult catches would make him a natural fit in Andy Reid’s offense this season.

While Remigio’s performance at training camp has been superb, his future with the Chiefs is anything but certain heading into Kansas City’s first preseason exhibition.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to push their players in practice ahead of their first preseason game. The exhibition contests will serve as dress rehearsals for veterans and auditions for those trying to make the final cuts.

Nikko Remigio has been a standout in training camp and hopes to crack the final roster. After Wednesday’s practice, he spoke with the media, explaining his underdog mentality and experience at Super Bowl LVIII.

“Staying resilient—and that’s really been kind of the moral of my entire journey—is just staying resilient and continuing to punch,” said Remigio. I’ve always been an underdog at every single level of football that I’ve played at, so being in this position is nothing new to me. I’m making sure that I’m still fighting and, like I said, being the best version of myself every single day.”

Remigio was a member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII-winning roster but spent the season inactive and on injured reserve. He spoke about watching the game on the sidelines and not in uniform.

“I think it’s every kid’s dream to be at the Super Bowl and see that. But if I’m going to be completely honest, it was a bit of a mix of emotions for me,” said Remigio. I’m a competitor at heart, and so to not be able to be out there on the field and kind of just be on the sideline supporting. I’m grateful to be in that position, but I want to play.”

Remigio has taken advantage of his reps in training camp and continues to earn praise from coaches and teammates whether or not he makes the team could come down to the wide receiver numbers game.

The injury bug continues to haunt the Kansas City Chiefs as more players are forced to leave practice early.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed Wednesday’s injuries to Nick Bolton and Kadarius Toney. Bolton suffered what is believed to be a minor elbow injury, while Toney left after hurting his ankle. Reid detailed the wide receivers’ situation and the possibility of missing valuable practice reps while speaking with reporters.

“Well, listen, I mean, you want to be there every day, and so anytime you miss, especially during install days, you’re missing a load there,” said Reid. “So, he’s got to take care of what he’s got and get himself back out there.”

Toney missed most of training camp last year due to knee surgery and dealt with various ailments during the season. Reid recalled walking over to him after he initially suffered the injury, but he was unsure of the severity.

“Yeah, at that time, I didn’t know he was banged up, but I was just, let’s keep rolling. He had a play before that; he went up to get it,” said Reid. “I think that’s probably where he got hurt, but I didn’t know that then. But just stay on top of it. Just keep squeezing.”

Toney is competing for a spot on the talented and crowded wide receiver depth chart that has recently seen the emergence of Nikko Remigio in training camp.

The journey to make an NFL roster isn’t the same for every player, as situations sometimes dictate their fate. The Kansas City Chiefs have a solid track record of undrafted players impressing at camp and overcoming the odds to make a significant impact on the team.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has constantly given underdogs a fighting chance in training camp to make the team or help their stock catch on elsewhere in the league. He opened up about wide receiver Nikko Remigio after Friday’s practice.

“He’s smart, a hard worker; He tries his best every play. He studies; you can tell he studies because he knows all the spots,” said Reid. “He’s got a great attitude, positive attitude. Those kind of guys, you pull for.”

Remigio went undrafted in 2023 out of Fresno State, later joining the Chiefs, and placed on injured reserve last season. He is considered undersized at 5 ft 9 inches but has impressed many at camp with his play, including Patrick Mahomes, who also spoke to reporters on Friday.

“He just works extremely hard, he’s always asking the right questions, (and he) always wants to get extra work, and that’s what you want; he’s a true pro’s pro,” said Mahomes. “He just comes to work every single day with a smile on his face. He wants to work hard and get better and better, and it’s not like he’s going out there and hating on someone else. He wants everybody to get better with him. I think that’s why everybody loves him in that room. You’ve seen the positive signs coming every single day. He continues to get better.”

The Chiefs have a crowded wide receiver depth chart that includes Rashee Rice, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore. Remigio is in a tough battle for reps, as there is still plenty of intrigue surrounding Justyn Ross, Cornell Powell, and various other factors over the next few weeks of training camp.

Training camp standout Nikko Remigio was waived by the #Chiefs on Tuesday with an injury designation.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived rookie receiver Nikko Remigio with an injury designation Tuesday amid a flurry of roster cuts.

It was an expected move as the team cut down to the mandated 53-man roster. Remigio was a standout early in training camp and had an impressive showing during preseason Week 1, but he missed the final two preseason games with a shoulder injury.

It would have already been difficult for the undrafted rookie to make the Chiefs’ 53-man roster, as the team already kept seven WRs, rare for an Andy Reid-coached team.

Despite waiving Remigio, the 5-foot-9, 187-pound Fresno State product still has a chance to return to the Chiefs’ practice squad if another team doesn’t pick him up off waivers. With Remigio’s eye-catching preseason performance and his prowess as a returner on special teams, it’s possible he will end up seeing some time on the Chiefs’ roster this season if any injuries occur to other receivers.

The Kansas City Chiefs opened the preseason on Sunday with a shocking loss. Exhibition results rarely impact a team’s mindset before the regular season starts, the miscues become teachable moments throughout the rest of training camp.

The first-team offense wasn’t its usual sharp self in the brief time they were on the field. The defense wasn’t much better, surrendering seventeen unanswered points in the first half leading to some concerns over the unit’s effectiveness without Chris Jones. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid did discuss a positive from the game with the standout play of undrafted rookie Nikko Remigio during Tuesday’s press conference.

“He had a really nice game,” said Reid. “He Did some really good things both special teams-wise and in the throw game part of it, you know, the catching part, so we’ll see how this thing goes. You know, the shoulders back in and all that, but we just have to see how he does.”

Remingo had four catches for 71 yards but suffered a shoulder injury during Tuesday’s practice.

Reid has another preseason game this Saturday night to correct some issues back in Arizona, where the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII. Remigio may not be available after injury, but his performance has turned heads.
