Chiefs claimed former Colts DB Darius Rush

Kansas City #Chiefs claimed former #Colts defensive back Darius Rush after being waived by Indianapolis on Tuesday. | from: @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to add another defensive back to their young secondary.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have claimed former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Darius Rush.

Rush was drafted by the Colts in the fifth round and 138th overall at this year’s NFL Draft after four years at South Carolina. He only spent training camp and the preseason with Indianapolis before being waived Tuesday before the roster cuts deadline.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, Rush was a standout player during his time with the Gamecocks. In 2022, as a redshirt senior, Rush had 38 tackles with seven passes broken up, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

This move looks like a potential steal for Kansas City, as Rush was a surprise release during Tuesday’s roster trimmings around the league. Former Chiefs defensive back Kahlef Hailassie was picked up around the same time by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday.

Who made the Chiefs’ 53-man roster after Tuesday’s cuts?

Check out all of the #Chiefs players who are still on Kansas City’s roster after Tuesday’s cuts:

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to be among the NFL’s best teams next season as they look to defend their Super Bowl LVII title in 2023. After a successful training camp and preseason, the Chiefs had to make some difficult decisions on Tuesday when they cut their roster from 90 players down to just 53.

Several fan favorites from their time at Missouri Western State University got the ax in the mass parting of ways, though some may find their way back to Kansas City’s practice squad in the coming days.

Despite the loss of promising talent, the Chiefs are still in a position to succeed in the regular season with the excellent 53-man roster they assembled after Tuesday’s cuts. Patrick Mahomes is still under center, Travis Kelce didn’t go anywhere, and despite Chris Jones’ continued absence, Kansas City’s defense still looks fierce on paper.

Check out every player that made the Chiefs 53-man roster after cuts were reported on Tuesday:

Chiefs waived 2022 fifth-round pick Darian Kinnard on Tuesday

The #Chiefs waived 2022 fifth-round pick Darian Kinnard on Tuesday as they cut their roster to 53 players.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived second-year offensive lineman Darian Kinnard on Tuesday.

The Chiefs opted to keep 10 other offensive linemen as they trimmed the roster down to 53 players. Kinnard barely missed the cut despite the team spending a fifth-round draft pick on him one year ago. Kinnard made the Chiefs’ roster in 2022 but appeared in just one game, earning six snaps on special teams.

Kinnard, a 6-foot-5, 322-pounder out of Kentucky, was always sort of a project for the Chiefs as the team attempted to use him at right tackle early on. Kinnard was projected as more of a guard coming out of college, and his struggles at the tackle position in the pros suggest that those projections may have been correct.

Even with the release, the Kinnard project likely remains unfinished. Plenty of raw talent remains, so Kinnard will probably find his way on the Chiefs’ practice squad if another team doesn’t claim him off waivers.

Chiefs waived promising rookie RB Deneric Prince on Tuesday

Deneric Prince, who was a fan-favorite at #Chiefs training camp, was waived by Kansas City on Tuesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived promising rookie running back Deneric Prince on Tuesday during the team’s roster cut-down day.

It’s a move that would have surprised many in late July/early August as the hype for Prince was strong during training camp. Prince ran with the ones and twos plenty during practice, but his hype fell off quickly during the preseason as he slid down the depth chart in favor of La’Mical Perine (who also didn’t make the final 53-man roster).

Despite not being as productive as some hoped, Prince did show some talent in the preseason, earning 89 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Prince also showed an ability to return kicks and make tackles on special teams, making him a more versatile option all around.

If Prince isn’t plucked off waivers by another NFL team, he seems to have a good shot to make the Chiefs’ practice squad (though he may also be battling for a spot with Perine there as well).

Chiefs waive WR Nikko Remigio with injury designation

Training camp standout Nikko Remigio was waived by the #Chiefs on Tuesday with an injury designation.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived rookie receiver Nikko Remigio with an injury designation Tuesday amid a flurry of roster cuts.

It was an expected move as the team cut down to the mandated 53-man roster. Remigio was a standout early in training camp and had an impressive showing during preseason Week 1, but he missed the final two preseason games with a shoulder injury.

It would have already been difficult for the undrafted rookie to make the Chiefs’ 53-man roster, as the team already kept seven WRs, rare for an Andy Reid-coached team.

Despite waiving Remigio, the 5-foot-9, 187-pound Fresno State product still has a chance to return to the Chiefs’ practice squad if another team doesn’t pick him up off waivers. With Remigio’s eye-catching preseason performance and his prowess as a returner on special teams, it’s possible he will end up seeing some time on the Chiefs’ roster this season if any injuries occur to other receivers.

New Orleans Saints announce initial 53-man roster

The New Orleans Saints announced their initial 53-man roster for the 2023 regular season, though some minor tweaks and procedural moves are expected:

It’s been a busy couple of days for the New Orleans Saints as they worked to thin out their depth chart, but here’s the initial 53-man roster. There were a few surprise moves but for the most part it looks like what we projected going into the NFL roster cuts deadline.

But this is just the initial depth chart. The roster will change as waiver claims are processed and procedural moves sending some players to injured reserve are completed. The Saints will continue to tweak the 53-man roster throughout the season, but here’s what we’re working with after the biggest moves:

Chiefs release QB Shane Buechele after standout preseason

The #Chiefs released quarterback Shane Buechele on Tuesday as they trimmed their roster to 53 players.

Shane Buechele’s time with the Kansas City Chiefs came to an end on Tuesday when the team parted ways with the third-year quarterback.

The move came after Buechele put together an impressive preseason as Kansas City’s third-string signal caller, which may have earned him an opportunity to compete elsewhere in 2023.

While Buechele’s performances in the Chiefs’ exhibition games in August were commendable, it seems that Kansas City’s front office valued veteran Blaine Gabbert’s experience more than the former SMU Mustang’s potential.

The Chiefs’ decision to move on from Buechele is somewhat surprising given his production in the preseason but is a clear indication that the team is comfortable with Gabbert as Patrick Mahomes’ backup.

Expect Buechele to catch on with a team that has a pressing need for a promising backup quarterback in the coming days, or for him to land on Kansas City’s practice squad if no new deal materializes by the end of the week.

Chiefs release former Kansas State standout Ekow Boye-Doe

The #Chiefs released former Kansas State standout Ekow Boye-Doe on Tuesday. | from: @EdEastonJr

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs made a roster move that hit close to home for local fans.

According to the Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, the Chiefs have released cornerback Ekow Boye-Doe as part of the team’s roster trimming before the start of the regular season.

Boye-Doe stood out at Kansas State for the Wildcats but went undrafted in April. The Chiefs signed him, allowing him to make the team out of training camp as he impressed coaches with his effort.

The undersized defensive back brought constant energy to the team throughout training camp, but his lack of experience and the Chiefs’ depth at cornerback didn’t work in his favor during roster cuts.

If Boye-Doe clears waivers, he should have a good chance to make Kansas City’s practice squad, where he could remain with the organization and continue his development. He finished the preseason with seven tackles, playing in the secondary and on special teams.

Chiefs acquire DT Neil Farrell Jr. in trade with rival Raiders

Kansas City #Chiefs acquired defensive tackle Neil Farrell from the Las Vegas #Raiders for a sixth-round draft pick. | from @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs reinforced their defensive line on Tuesday as their negotiations with All-Pro tackle Chris Jones are set to continue past the preseason.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr. is being traded to the Chiefs for a sixth-round pick. The exact terms of the trade have not yet been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the pick that Kansas City traded will be for the 2024 draft.

Farrell is a former 2022 fourth-round selection who appeared in nine regular-season games as a rookie. The former LSU star won a national championship with college teammate Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The 24-year-old is 6-4, 319 pounds with plenty of potential as the Chiefs adjust their defensive line.

The move indicates that a deal to bring Jones back to the team isn’t happening as soon as many had imagined. Farrell has plenty of potential, and following the release of veteran Danny Shelton, the plan seems to be focused on getting younger.

9 toughest cuts from our 53-man Saints roster projection

These were the toughest cuts from our final New Orleans Saints 53-man roster projection. Will any of them make the team on Tuesday?

It’s been a hard summer for the New Orleans Saints, with players battling through the Louisiana heat at training camp and competing hard for the few roster spots available in their three preseason games.

But that’s all behind us now. Like every other team around the NFL, the Saints must trim their roster down to just 53 names by Tuesday’s 3 p.m. CT deadline. We’ve made our best guess at who those 53 players might be, but which projected cuts were most difficult? Let’s break it down while we wait for the Saints to make their own moves:
