Rockets release blue City Edition jerseys for 2020-21 season

Made by Nike, the new light blue uniforms — designed with Houston’s era from 1995-96 to 2002-03 in mind — have “H-Town” across the front.

At 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday night, the Rockets officially unveiled their blue City Edition jerseys for the upcoming 2020-21 NBA season. That time, of course, is a nod to Houston’s oldest area code.

Houston had space-themed City jerseys in 2019-20, but this blue set will replace those for this season. Like the white City uniforms from last year, this blue version has “H-Town” across the front in red lettering.

For a team with red as the primary color throughout most of its history, the choice of light blue certainly draws attention. The Rockets briefly had navy blue uniforms in the late 1990s, but this represents the secondary color from that era, rather than the primary. The light blude also ties in with the former Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL).

In addition to ditching the 2019-20 City jersey, the Rockets will also be losing Nike’s version of the Classic uniforms, which were in place last season as a one-year tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 1994-95 title team. Those will not be replaced in 2020-21.

In all, the Rockets should have four jersey sets (rather than five) next season: the red Icon; white Association; black Statement; and blue City.

LOOK: Academy appears to unveil Rockets’ 2020-21 City apparel

As indicated in an earlier leak, the new merchandise points to a light blue color scheme for the 2020-21 edition of Houston’s City jersey.

Leaked merchandise photos from sports retailer Academy suggests that the Houston Rockets have a light blue uniform set coming this season.

David Hardisty of ClutchFans had reported that the team’s new “City jersey” would be released next week. While the jersey itself has yet to be formally introduced, the replica player shirts typically mirror the design.

Houston introduced new, space-themed City jerseys for the 2019-20 season, but it appears that this blue set will replace those for the 2020-21 campaign. Like the white City uniforms from last season, the blue version will have “H-Town” across the front, according to the leaked photos.

The light shade of blue shown in Friday’s photos would also seem to mesh with a previous leak of the 2020-21 City jersey’s shorts.

Warriors unveil ‘Oakland Forever’ uniforms inspired by ‘We Believe’ era

The rumors are true — the Warriors unveiled new “Oakland Forever” uniforms to tribute their former host city and the “We Believe” era.

The rumors are true.

On Monday, the Golden State Warriors introduced a brand new uniform with a nod to one of the most popular teams in franchise history. The Warriors unveiled the “Oakland Forever” City Edition uniforms in tribute to the city they called home for 47 years and the “We Believe” era team.

The new-look mirrors the uniforms the Warriors wore from 1997-2010 at Oracle Arena in Oakland. The navy blue, gold and orange jersey were made popular by Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes and other members of Don Nelson’s We Believe squad.

One of the significant differences between the new uniforms the Warriors will wear in San Francisco’s Chase Center versus the set Davis and company wore at Oracle Arena is the center chest piece. The new uniform will read “Oakland” across the middle instead of “Warriors.”

In the official announcement of the uniform, Golden State’s two-time Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry served as the model.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

Along with their home whites and away blues, Golden State has donned jerseys featuring “The City,” “The Bay,” “The Town” and “San Francisco.” With several uniforms introduced to Golden State’s wardrobe last offseason, there’s a chance the Warriors are just beginning to roll out their on-court looks for the 2020-21 campaign.

LOOK: Do the Houston Rockets have a light blue jersey coming?

A leaked photo posted to Twitter suggests that the Houston Rockets have a light blue jersey set in the works for a future season.

A leaked photo on Twitter suggests that the Houston Rockets have light blue uniforms in the works for a future NBA season (possibly 2020-21).

The Rockets will have at least some changes from their 2019-20 jerseys, since Nike’s version of the Classic uniforms were only for one season, as a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 1994-95 championship team.

Houston introduced new, space-themed City jerseys for the 2019-20 season, and it isn’t yet confirmed whether those will be brought back.

Per Camisas da NBA, it isn’t known whether the new blue set represents a change to the City jerseys, or if it’s some other alternative uniform. The theme also isn’t clear, since the photo only shows the blue shorts.

For a team with red as the primary color throughout most of its history, the choice of light blue certainly draws attention. The Rockets briefly had navy blue uniforms in the late 1990s, but this is a very different shade of blue. As a result, it’s unclear whether these jerseys are meant to be a throwback to that generation. There also aren’t any pinstripes, which were among the defining characteristics of those older blue sets.

The 2019-20 City jerseys weren’t fully revealed until a few weeks after that regular season began, so we may have to wait a good bit longer before having confirmation on the new threads.

Bobby Wagner won’t retire until he gets a black jersey with lime green trim

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner appeared on the Truss Levels Podcast and said he wishes to see Seattle have black jerseys with green trim.

Bobby Wagner appeared on The Players’ Tribune podcast Truss Levelz with fellow NFL players Cameron Jordan and Mark Ingram and touched upon a Seattle Seahawks uniform change he wants to see happen.

When asked to confirm his favorite uniform combination, Wagner told Jordan and Ingram that the Action Green jerseys with the navy blue pants are his personal favorite. However, he went on to state that he would like to see a combination of black uniforms with lime green trim. He apparently does not wish to conclude his NFL career until he convinces Nike to bring his vision to life.

“I’m trying to get Nike to agree with this,” Wagner said. “We’re gonna get black jerseys with lime green trim. I’m not retiring until that happens. So that’s going to be my favorite jersey combo.”

When Jordan asked him if he would keep the blue Seahawks helmet with his dream combination, Wagner said that he probably would because it would fit with black in his view.

“I’d probably stick with the blue helmet, but, you know, black looks good with everything.”

Intriguing, to say the least.

See Nike’s new ad celebrating the Lakers win in a 2020 full of so much loss

This is great.

Nike’s been on quite a roll of ads since late 2019.

There was the powerful LeBron James-focused spot about “the kid from Akron.” There was how the honored Kobe Bryant’s memory in February, the “play for the world” spot in the middle of April as the COVID-19 pandemic spread, one in May all about comebacks and “You Can’t Stop Us” in July, with some incredible editing..

Here’s the latest, “You Can’t Stop L.A.,” which focuses on the Lakers’ winning in a year with so much tragedy, from Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s passing to the COVID-19 pandemic to the death of Breonna Taylor and shooting of Jacob Blake.

On day of his sneaker release, P.J. Tucker remembers Kobe Bryant

“Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you, man,” Tucker wrote. “Wearing your shoes always makes me feel like you’re still here…”

On Friday, Sept. 25, a special P.J. Tucker edition of the retro Nike Kobe 5 Protro sneaker officially hit the retail market.

Long known as the NBA’s unofficial “Sneaker King,” the 35-year-old Tucker recently shared his great joy at the news of having his own customized version of one of his favorite basketball shoes of all-time.

“It’s my true dream,” the Houston Rockets veteran told Complex.

On Friday’s release day, Tucker took to Instagram to compose a heartfelt message of gratitude to the late Los Angeles Lakers legend, who inspired the original shoe when it was released in 2009-10. Tucker wrote:

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you, man. Wearing your shoes always makes me feel like you’re still here, even if just in spirit.

Nah, this isn’t a sad post at all. Today, I’m smiling hard [because] one of my dreams became a reality, and I’m forever grateful for everything, big homie. Thank you. 🙏🏽🖤🐍 #mambaforever

After the sneaker, a second photo shows Tucker (then with the Phoenix Suns) embracing Bryant after his final career game versus Kobe in 2016.

Earlier this year, Tucker joined teammates James Harden and Russell Westbrook for a day trip to Los Angeles for Bryant’s memorial service. Even though they had a game in Houston that night (and their flight arrived back only minutes before tipoff), Tucker said he had to be there.

It meant everything. For me, it was a no-brainer. We had a chance to actually be there. One of the best memorials I’ve ever been to.

It was amazing all the love, and the outpouring from the fans. Everything around the whole event was amazing.

It was super emotional for everybody in there. To see how strong his family was, to see literally everybody from all walks of his life being there, it was amazing.

In postgame comments from a Jan. 26 game just hours after Bryant’s shocking death, Tucker called it one of the toughest days of his life.

During his legendary 20-year career with the Lakers, Bryant was a five-time NBA champion; an 18-time All-Star; a two-time Olympic gold medalist; and an MVP, among his numerous accolades.

Bryant is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and three other daughters. He was 41 years old at the time of his January death.

Nike released a new Colin Kaepernick jersey and it sold out in seconds on Nike’s SNKRS app

More SNKRS madness.

After months of waiting, Nike finally released some new Colin Kaepernick gear to the public on Thursday. It was released in celebration of the fourth anniversary of the first time he knelt during the national anthem.

They unveiled a new Colin Kaepernick monochromatic “True to 7” football jersey on Wednesday afternoon and dropped a notification that it’d be released on Thursday.

The jersey was available on the SNKRS app, of course, like every other piece of exclusive gear Nike has. It came in a triple-black colorway with both the lettering of his name and his number in black. The previous version had white lettering.

It’s a pretty slick look, to be honest. And it means a lot to Kap, clearly.

But, yet again in true SNKRS, it sold out in just seconds. Disappointment was in abundance across the internet.

There were some W’s, but they came few and far between.

Shouts to everyone who managed to cop. Better luck next time to those who didn’t. They’ll need it.
