Alabama transfer commits to Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels

Bill Belichick and UNC land commitment from former Alabama OL Miles McVay.

It’s still hard to believe it happened, but the greatest coach in NFL history, Bill Belichick, is now the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. As if imagining Belichick outside of the pros wasn’t weird enough, the college game has never been in a more bizarre spot between NIL and the transfer portal.

The Tar Heel program will be a bit of a rebuild as they finished 6-6 in 2024, but it sounds like they have solid NIL plans in place to assist the Patriots legend.

So far, Belichick doesn’t appear to be having any issues adapting to the changes as he’s already finding great success in the transfer portal. On Thursday, the Tar Heels landed a commitment from former four star recruit and Alabama Crimson Tide OL Miles McVay. Coming out of East St. Louis, McVay was the rated No. 138 player on the ESPN300 and the 16th-rated offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

With three years of eligibility remaining, McVay’s decision to enter the portal isn’t shocking after limited playing time, a redshirt and being stuck behind Kadyn Proctor on the depth chart. McVay will also become the first player to play for both Nick Saban and Belichick at the college level.

Alabama offensive lineman to reportedly enter transfer portal

Alabama has now seen an offensive lineman enter the transfer portal.

Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Miles McVay is reportedly set to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when it opens, according to reports Sunday.

McVay, a redshirt freshman offensive tackle, is currently in his second year in Tuscaloosa where he has been a reserve along Alabama’s offensive front each of the last two years. This season, McVay has been a primary backup option at offensive tackle, as well as seeing time on special teams.

Prior to Alabama, McVay came to Tuscaloosa as a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2023 recruiting class as a four-star prospect, as well as the No. 196 overall player in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. McVay also ranked as the No. 16 overall offensive tackle, as well as the No. 3 player in the state of Illinois where he attended East St. Louis High School.

The redshirt freshman is the first Alabama offensive lineman to enter the transfer portal this season.

2023 4-star OL Miles McVay officially signs with Alabama

2023 four-star offensive lineman Miles McVay signed his National Letter of Intent to Alabama on Friday. The Illinois native has early enrolled and began practicing with the team in bowl game preparations.

Six of Alabama’s signees have enrolled early and begun bowl preparation with the team. One of those signees is 2023 four-star offensive lineman Miles McVay. The Illinois native has signed and started practicing with the team.

McVay is ranked as the No. 200 overall recruit in the country, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He is listed as 6-foot-6, 358 pounds.

247Sports’ Allen Trieu compared McVay to the likes of Chiefs offensive tackle Orlando Brown. That is a strong comparison for an incoming freshman. With Alabama’s struggles up front in recent years, McVay could find himself in the mix to become a day-one starter. It will be interesting to see how his career at Alabama unfolds.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Alabama football and the early signing period as more commits sign their national letters of intent.

Michigan State football OT target Miles McVay chooses Alabama

4-star OT Miles McVay has made his commitment to Alabama

Michigan State missed out on a 4-star offensive line target when Miles McVay made the decision to make his commitment to the University of Alabama.

The Spartans had been working on McVay for a long time and some thought that they may have led for a short time, but ultimately the Crimson Tide won the battle.

Michigan State already holds commitments from four offensive linemen but is looking to add a fifth.

Alabama lands commitment from massive 2023 OT Miles McVay

Alabama landed a big-time commitment on Thursday from 2023 offensive tackle Miles McVay.

The Alabama coaching staff usually signs five to six offensive linemen in each recruiting cycle. The Crimson Tide are well on their way to doing so for the 2023 recruiting class. Before today, there were three offensive linemen committed in the ’23 class. That number increased to four as highly-coveted offensive tackle Miles McVay announced that he was committed to Alabama.

The news is no surprise as the Crimson Tide has held a substantial lead, according to On3’s RPM. They had been the favorite to land McVay for quite some time.

While McVay is now committed to the Crimson Tide, he has set an official visit with Florida for October 14-15. Although it isn’t likely that McVay will flip, it is still something to keep an eye on.

When asked about why he chose Alabama by On3’s Hayes Fawcett, here is what McVay had to say:

“What really stood out to me was the culture of the team,” McVay said. “It really reminded me so much of East Saint Louis. Just the work you have to put in to be the best you can be it’s just like being at east side.”

He has also drawn relatively impressive comparisons to offensive tackles in the NFL. 247Sports’ Allen Trieu compared the Illinois native to Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Orlando Brown. Moreover, here is what he had to say about McVay’s skillset:

Has competed at the varsity level and against top camp competition since very early in his career. Owns a large frame with good wing-span. Technically advanced from a young age. Plays with a sturdy base and has the natural power and strength to where he is tough to bull-rush, but he is also skilled enough as a pass protector to handle speed rushers. We would like to see him continue to manage his weight and keep working on his lateral movement. But he has the size and technical savvy to be a starter, likely at right tackle, for a high-major program. He has proven himself at camps and at East St. Louis and has a chance to play beyond college especially if he takes to a college S&C program.

4-star Oregon target OT Miles McVay announces college commitment

4-star OT Miles McVay, one of the top uncommitted OL on the board, made his college commitment on Thursday.

In terms of both size and stature, one of the biggest offensive linemen in the 2023 recruiting class is off the board.

4-star offensive tackle Miles McVay announced Thursday evening that he would be committing to the Alabama Crimson Tide, choosing Nick Saban over Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.

For a while, it looked as if McVay was going to come to Eugene, with the Ducks building a strong lead in his recruitment earlier this spring. However, Alabama closed hard and was able to get him to commit in the long run.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and tipping the scales at 358-pounds, McVay ranks as the No. 27 OL in the 2023 class, and No. 186 overall player in the nation.

5 offensive line recruits Michigan State football fans should monitor

5 offensive line recruits Michigan State is heavily recruiting, and looking to make a part of the 2023 recruiting class

As July comes to an end, a big portion of the 2023 recruiting cycle has started to wind down with it. Many recruits are making their commitments and making choices on where they would like to play college football.

Michigan State offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic has put a lot of time on the recruiting trail, and he is hoping that it will pay off.

The Spartans offensive line coach has already put together a nice offensive line class together with 4-stars Clay Wedin and Cole Dellinger to pair with 3-star Johnathan Slack.

Dellinger and Slack project to play on the interior at either guard or center, while Wedin is more of a swing guy who could play inside or outside. It is apparent that Kapilovic will need to add a couple of pure tackles to the mix.

Lucky for him, the Spartans are in the trenches with several top targets. Take a look at who they are:
