Broncos now have 9 players on injured reserve or PUP list

Going into Week 5, the Broncos have seven players on injured reserve and two players on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The Denver Broncos have nine players on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list going into Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Seven of those players will be eligible to return later this season.

Broncos cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) was eligible to return from IR this week, and linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) were eligible to return from the PUP list in Week 5. All three players apparently need more time to recover.

Denver running back Audric Estime (ankle) will be eligible to return next week, and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) and outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) can return in Week 7.

After being placed on IR on Saturday, running back Tyler Badie (back) will be eligible to return in Week 9.

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ depth chart for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

After making two changes to their practice squad earlier this week, the Denver Broncos have released their updated depth chart ahead of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

After losing linebacker Alex Singleton to a torn ACL, Justin Strnad is the next man up at inside linebacker. Right now, Kristian Welch is listed as the backup for both ILB spots, but the team elevated Levelle Bailey from the practice squad to the game-day roster last week.

NFL teams can also call up two players from the practice squad to the game-day roster each week. Bailey might be a candidate to get elevated again in Week 5.

Broncos’ updated 17-player practice squad with new running back

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ updated 17-player practice squad following the addition of RB Salvon Ahmed.

The Denver Broncos signed running back Salvon Ahmed and released wide receiver Kaden Davis from the practice squad on Tuesday.

The Broncos brought in Ahmed to provide more depth at running back after Tyler Badie suffered a back injury against the New York Jets in Week 4.

The 17-player practice squad and 53-man roster are now both full.

The NFL’s standard practice squad size limit is 16 players, but there’s an exception that allows an extra international player to not count against the limit. For Denver, Australian tight end Thomas Yassmin is an exception, giving the Broncos a 17-player practice squad.

The Broncos will have six players eligible to return from IR/PUP over the next three weeks, including CB Damarri Mathis this week.

Following the Denver Broncos‘ win over the New York Jets on Sunday, running back Javonte Williams noted that the team has “a lot of players returning” in the coming weeks. Who are those players?

The Broncos have four players on injured reserve and two players on the reserve/physically unable to perform list who could return later this season.

Broncos cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) is eligible to return in Week 5 after spending the first four games of the season on IR. It remains to be seen if Mathis has fully recovered, but Denver could have him back on the field against the Las Vegas Raiders this week.

Broncos outside linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) are also eligible to return this week. Note that we emphasized eligible because both Sanders and Turner-Yell probably need more time to recover from their respective injuries.

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ updated depth chart for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

After making several roster moves last week, the Denver Broncos have released an updated depth chart for their Week 4 showdown with the New York Jets on Sunday.

The Broncos placed linebacker Alex Singleton (ACL) on injured reserve last Wednesday. They filled his former roster spot by promoting running back Tyler Badie from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Badie becomes the team’s new third-string running back.

Singleton’s replacement remains to be seen. By simply removing Singleton from the depth chart, Justin Strnad is listed as the next man up, but it’s unclear if he will start against the Jets.

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski filling in well for Mike McGlinchey

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski filled in well for an injured Mike McGlinchey last week. He’s set to start the next three games.

After losing starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey to a knee injury, the Denver Broncos turned to second-year lineman Alex Palczewski.

Palczewski performed well in his first NFL start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver’s offensive line kept quarterback Bo Nix clean. The offense moved the ball efficiently and Nix did not take any sacks in a 26-7 victory.

Palczewski spent six years at Illinois, ending his college career with an FBS-record 65 starts. Broncos coach Sean Payton believes that extensive college experience has helped the lineman quickly adjust to playing in the NFL

“Pretty good, pretty good,” Payton said this week when asked how Palczewski looked on film against the Bucs. “Really well. First start. He did a lot of things well. He’s smart. He’s played a lot of football games. So we’re fortunate to have someone with, I know it’s not pro experience, but you felt it in the game.”

Joe Lombardi, Denver’s offensive coordinator, echoed Payton’s assessment.

“[He looked] really good,” Lombardi said. “He’s a little bit like Bo [Nix]. He’s one of those guys that had a ton of starts in college. He’s an experienced guy. It’s a phrase that gets thrown around, ‘He’s a football player.’ He’s a guy that knows what he’s good at, where his limitations are, and he’s one of those players that especially sticks out on the offensive line where they know how to play according to the opponent they’re facing, according to the talents that they have.

“He’s just one of those guys that doesn’t just go out there and play. He’s got a plan and that comes from the experience he’s had in college and a year in the program. We have a lot of confidence in him. I think he played very well on Sunday, and I think he had a lot of fun.”

Palczewski will make his second career start against the New York Jets on Sunday. New York’s defense features edge rusher Will McDonald, who has totaled five sacks through the first three games of the season. After passing his first test in Week 3, Palczewski will face a tougher test in Week 4.

The Broncos have released their depth chart ahead of Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ updated 17-player practice squad following the addition of two linebackers.

The Denver Broncos have officially signed veteran linebackers Kwon Alexander and Zach Cunningham to the practice squad after losing Alex Singleton to a season-ending torn ACL.

Alexander (6-1, 227 pounds) joins the team as a 30-year-old veteran with 631 tackles, 34 pass breakups, 13.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles and nine interceptions in 104 career games (88 starts). Denver will mark Alexander’s sixth stop in his 10-year career.

Cunningham (6-3, 238 pounds) has recorded 705 tackles, 23 pass breakups, 6.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one interception in 86 career starts. The Broncos are his fourth team.

Denver had room to add Alexander to the practice squad after promoting wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey to the active roster last Saturday. The team had room for Cunningham after promoting running back Tyler Badie to the 53-man roster on Wednesday.

The 17-player practice squad and 53-man roster are now both full.
