Every season-opening game for Eagles since 2010

With Philadelphia heading to New England to face the Patriots on Sunday, we look back at every season opener for the #Eagles since 2010.

Detroit defeated Kansas City and the NFL’s opening matchup, and it’s officially game week for the Eagles and 29 other teams around the NFL.

Philadelphia will hit the road for a matchup against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, and it’ll be a celebration of retired quarterback, Tom Brady.

Over the years, the Eagles have had great success in Week One, and a strong start on Sunday could again catapult the team to postseason success in late January.

With preparation for New England underway, here’s a recap of every season opener since 2010.

Colin Cowherd believes Bears QB Justin Fields has an ego problem

Buckle up, Bears fans. Your favorite media personality has another questionable Justin Fields take.

Don’t look now Chicago Bears fans, but your favorite media personality is at it again. It seems FS1’s Colin Cowherd has a monthly quota he needs to hit when talking about the Bears, specifically quarterback Justin Fields, and he recently had another hot take that has fans up in arms.

On Wednesday’s edition of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”, Fields and his top-five running quarterback list became a topic of conversation. Cowherd wasn’t happy that the quarterback listed himself in that list, which also included Lamar Jackson, Cam Newton, Michael Vick, and Steve Young. The host went as far to say that Fields lacks self-awareness because he named himself to the list and seems to have an ego instead of confidence. “At quarterback, you’re the face of the franchise and you’re the coach on the field. So I’m going to hold you to a much higher standard of self-awareness and confidence over ego and chutzpah,” Cowherd said. “This isn’t the end of the world, it’s five percent. But I don’t love it for a quarterback that’s 5-20 and right now is closer to a bust than a star.”

The FS1 personality compared Fields to players like Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield, and Jameis Winston for having egos instead of confidence at the position. All because Fields named himself in a list of the top running quarterbacks in NFL history after he produced 1,143 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games while also breaking multiple records in the process. His 1,143 rushing yards were second-most for a quarterback in league history, only behind Jackson.

Cowherd believes Fields should have left himself off the list because of his lack of accomplishments in the win column. And though he repeatedly said that it wasn’t a big deal, the host continued to harp on the point.

Fields knows he needs to improve in certain areas heading into Year 3 and would be the first person to say that. In nearly every press conference, he’s exuded humility and a quiet confidence surrounding his abilities. If anything, him acknowledging his prowess as a running quarterback is the first hint of any ego at all.

It was another questionable take from Cowherd, who has had a few of those regarding the Bears in the last 12 months. But fans were having none of it on Twitter.

Justin Fields lists Cam Newton amongst his top 5 running QBs in NFL history

When you’re talking about the greatest running QBs of all-time, you’re talking about Cam Newton—and Justin Fields was talking about Cam Newton.

Greatness recognizes greatness . . . even before some of the greatness becomes great.

In a recent talk with former cornerback and current host of the “All Thing Covered” podcast Bryant McFadden, Chicago Bears star Justin Fields showed some love for a Carolina Panthers great. When naming his top five running quarterbacks in league history, Fields included Cam Newton on his pretty impressive list.

When it comes to quarterbacks, Newton is the position’s all-time leader in rushing attempts (1,118) and rushing touchdowns (75). The next closest players in those categories are Russell Wilson (901 attempts) and Hall of Famer Steve Young (43 touchdowns), who was mentioned by Fields as well.

The 24-year-old passer also named himself, Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick—whom accumulated the most rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history. Right behind Vick’s 6,109 yards is (you guessed it) Newton with his 5,628.

So not only was Fields just speaking facts, he might’ve been reciprocating the respect, too . . .

Is Joe Gibbs the most underrated coach in NFL history?

Michael Vick recently made the case for Andy Reid as the greatest coach of all time. Why is Joe Gibbs never even in the conversation as one of the greatest?

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The Washington NFL franchise has been in existence for over 90 years. One of the NFL’s flagship franchises, the Commanders, have been in a downward spiral since Daniel Snyder purchased the team in 1999. However, good news is on the horizon, with Josh Harris set to take over as Washington’s new owner later this month.

One of the bright spots of Snyder’s tenure was bringing legendary Hall of Fame head coach Joe Gibbs out of retirement for four seasons. While Gibbs didn’t reach the same levels of success from his first 12-year tenure with Washington, he did lead the franchise to two playoff berths in four seasons, which is pretty remarkable in retrospect.

In his first 12 years as head coach of Washington, Gibbs led the team to four Super Bowls and three championships. And he did it with three different quarterbacks, another remarkable achievement, considering the QB/coach combinations that have dominated the NFL over the last 20 years.

Recently, former NFL quarterback Michael Vick said Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Vick’s former head coach during his time in Philadelphia, could be the greatest coach of all time.

“I was actually thinking this year like, after Andy won the Super Bowl, he only got two, but he went to like four or five NFC Championship Games every year y’all was in the AFC Championship Game,” Vick said per Chiefs Wire.

“He might be the greatest coach of all time. You don’t have to win championships to be considered. You know, I understand Belichick and Brady and that whole dynamic. But coach [Reid] did it in Philly, and then he doing it in KC. I’m always shout out coach like I love that man to death; like for real, literally I do anything for him.”

It’s difficult to argue against Reid or Bill Walsh. But, understandably, Bill Belichick stands atop the mountain.

But what about Gibbs?

We’ve made the argument for Gibbs over and over that he doesn’t receive the respect he’s earned. He’s a Hall of Famer in two sports. His first run with Washington was the most successful period in the franchise’s long history. What he did during his second stint, considering everything around him, was also impressive. Yet, he’s never mentioned as possibly the greatest coach in NFL history.

Whether you believe he is or not, he certainly belongs in the conversation.

Longtime NFL writer Clark Judge recently heard Vick’s comments and wrote a column making the case for Gibbs to be mentioned as one of the greatest.

Here’s an excerpt from Judge’s column:

He may be one of the greatest of all time, too … except nobody makes that argument. But you could. And it has nothing to do with numbers like all-time victories or winning percentage and everything to do with his quarterbacks. Because Joe Gibbs accomplished something no other modern-era head coach has.

He won three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks, none of whom is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Judge listed all of Gibbs’ accomplishments, and while he didn’t necessarily say Gibbs is the greatest coach of all time, he said he’s one of them.

Joe Gibbs was a magnificent head coach who made Washington first in war, first in peace and first in the NFL. He may not have been the greatest coach of all time, but I know this: He’s one of them. Andy Reid is, too, but his story isn’t complete, and we don’t know how it ends. But we do know about Joe Gibbs … and one suggestion for Michael Vick.

Washington fans can’t agree on anything. One thing Washington fans can agree on is their love and respect for Joe Gibbs. It spans generations.

Why isn’t Gibbs mentioned when these subjective rankings or debates occur around this time every year? Is it recency bias? Is it because Washington has been so bad in recent years that Gibbs and the franchise’s success are a distant memory?

Regardless of the answer, it’s unfortunate. Gibbs is not only of the greatest football coaches of all time, he’s also one of the greatest human beings.

Michael Vick says Chiefs HC Andy Reid might be the greatest coach of all time

Is #Chiefs HC Andy Reid the GOAT NFL coach? Mike Vick contemplated it recently on Tyreek Hill’s podcast:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Is Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid the greatest coach of all time? One of his former NFL quarterbacks considered his candidacy in a recent podcast appearance.

Former NFL QB Michael Vick recently appeared on former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill’s “It Needed To Be Said” podcast, talking about a variety of topics. During a discussion about why the Atlanta Falcons didn’t win a Super Bowl during Vick’s tenure, Reid’s candidacy as the greatest NFL head coach of all time came up.

“I was actually thinking this year like, after Andy won the Super Bowl, he only got two, but he went to like four or five NFC Championship Games every year y’all was in the AFC Championship Game,” Vick said. “He might be the greatest coach of all time. You don’t have to win championships to be considered. You know, I understand Belichick and Brady and that whole dynamic. But coach [Reid] did it in Philly, and then he doing it in KC. I’m always shout out coach like I love that man to death; like for real literally I do anything for him.”

The longevity argument is certainly something to consider and that we’ll look at increasingly in the coming years. Reid has been able to find a level of coaching success with a number of different quarterbacks during multiple junctures of his career with multiple teams. He became the first NFL coach to win over 100 games with two different franchises this past season.

The raw numbers might favor New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick. Reid has coached 386 regular season games during his career with a 247-138-1 overall record. That’s good for fifth all-time in NFL history and about 50 wins shy of Belichick. Reid has coached 38 playoff games with a 22-16 record including two Super Bowl wins. Belichick has coached 44 playoff games with a 31-13 record, including six Super Bowl titles. As far as Super Bowl success is concerned, both Reid and Belichick have only won titles with a single quarterback, respectively.

Michael Vick visits with Bears QB Justin Fields at Halas Hall

Two of the most electrifying quarterbacks of the last 20 years met up to talk shop this week.

A meeting of the minds took place at Halas Hall this week between two of the most electrifying quarterbacks to play in the NFL over the last 20 years. Former NFL star Michael Vick visited the Chicago Bears facilities and had a chance to talk with Justin Fields. The team released photos of the interactions on Friday, one day following the conclusion of organized team activities (OTAs).

When it comes to quarterbacks visiting with Fields, Vick fits the bill for a couple of reasons. All last season, Fields was being compared to Vick for his dynamic running ability that was on display in nearly every single game. Fields broke Vick’s single-game rushing record against the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 with 178 yards. He also surpassed Vick’s single-season rushing total as well with 1,143 yards. But their connection goes deeper than that.

Fields, a native of Kennesaw, Georgia located just outside Atlanta, grew up idolizing Vick when he was a member of the Falcons. The two connected when Fields entered the league and have stayed close since then, with Vick going to bat for the young quarterback in the media. “I think he’s a great player,” said Vick earlier this year via Chris Emma of Marquee Sports Network. “I think Justin has a lot of room to grow. As a quarterback and in general, but growing in the passing game. Another year in the system, some weapons around you.”

After coming into the league in 2001 with the Falcons as the No. 1 overall pick, Vick set quarterback rushing records and was one of the most dangerous dual-threat options. His time in Atlanta was cut short, however, when he was convicted on dog fighting charges and was suspended while also having to serve 18 months in federal prison.

After being released, Vick had a career renaissance with the Philadelphia Eagles in the early 2010s, earning Comeback Player of the Year in 2010 and rebuilding his public image in the process. Now, Vick stays involved with football in the media and helps mentor players like Fields, who is looking to take another major step in his development in 2023.

Though the topics of their meeting and conversation are still unknown, fans were hyped to see the two dynamic quarterbacks come together this week.
