Brian Westbrook, Michael Vick Donovan McNabb, and Eric Allen are among the 17 former Philadelphia Eagles nominated for the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame class

The NFL just announced that nine players in their first year of eligibility are among the 173 Modern-Era Nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.

The list of first-time nominees includes running back Jamaal Charles, wide receiver Brandon Marshall, wide receiver Jordy Nelson, tight end Antonio Gates, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, and defensive end Julius Peppers.

The list of Modern-Era Nominees will be reduced to 25 Semifinalists in November and, from there, to 15 Finalists whose names will be announced in early January.

Some of the best players in NFL history have worn a Philadelphia Eagles jersey at some point during their careers.

Our friends at Touchdown Wire recently took a look at the best players in NFL (and AFL) history to wear every jersey number.

That inspired the Eagles Wire to take take a look at Philadelphia’s history and track down the best player to wear each respective jersey number.

Fletcher Cox, an Eagles legend, will undoubtedly land a spot in Philadelphia’s Ring of Honor, and his numbers warrant a look from the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well.

Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia recently ranked the top ten defenders in franchise history, and the former Mississippi State star landed in the top five.

5. Fletcher Cox: Along with Reggie White, one of only two Eagles defensive players to make six straight Pro Bowls. In his prime, Cox was a ferocious interior lineman, who was just as dangerous rushing the passer as playing the run. His 65 sacks – including 7.0 last year, in his 11th season – are 5th-most in Eagles history by any player and 26 ½ more than any other interior lineman. Cox has never missed a game because of injury in 11 seasons, and those 65 sacks since 2012 are second only to Aaron Donald among defensive tackles. Cox was huge in the 2017 Super Bowl season and a 1st-team all-pro the next year. Along with Donald, he’s one of only two active interior linemen that have started in two Super Bowls. Still a good player. But over the last decade, one of the best.

Jeremiah Trotter (10), Troy Vincent (9), Maxie Baughan (8), Bill Bergey (7), and Seth Joyner (6) made up the back half of the top ten.

Eric Allen (4), Reggie White (3), Brian Dawkins (2), and Chuck Bednarik (1) rounded out the top five.

The list of first-time nominees includes running back Chris Johnson, Philadelphia native Jahri Evans, offensive linemen Joe Thomas, defensive lineman Dwight Freeney, linebackers NaVorro Bowman and James Harrison, defensive backs Kam Chancellor and Darrelle Revis, and punter Shane Lechler.

The list of Modern-Era Nominees will be reduced to 25 Semifinalists in November and, from there, to 15 Finalists whose names will be announced in early January.

Tackles are the one statistic in football that has taken some time to fully grade and keep up with and it’s constantly debated.

You can see who completes a pass or breaks off a long run, but it can sometimes be difficult to properly score a tackle (solo/combo) and it’s something that the NFL has been working to perfect since 1994.

During a recent appearance on The Wooderboys Podcast, Singleton and the guys discussed his performance from 2020, when the talented linebacker guaranteed he’d shatter the Eagles’ single-season record for tackles.

During the 1988 NFL season, Reggie White logged 18 sacks and 133 combined tackles from his defensive end position.

Ray Lewis leads the NFL in the single-season tackles category, logging 156 during the 1997 season in Baltimore.
