Giants fall to Cowboys: Winners, losers and those in between

The New York Giants fell to the Cowboys, 28-20, in Week 12 and here’s a look at our winners and losers (and those in between) from the game.

The New York Giants fell to 7-4 on the season with a 28-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. It wasn’t as ugly as some anticipated, but it wasn’t necessarily pretty, either.

The Giants blew an early second half lead and couldn’t seem to get anything going again until it was too late. In a game of inches, they came up a few short entirely too many times.

The opportunities were there but Brian Daboll’s group just couldn’t capitalize.

Here’s some winners, losers and in-betweens from Thursday’s loss.

Giants fall to Lions: Winners, losers and those in between

The New York Giants fell to the Lions, 31-18, in Week 11 and here’s a look at our winners and losers (and those in between) from the game.

The New York Giants and Detroit Lions braved the 35-degree weather and 20-plus MPH winds at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The Lions roared over the listless, sloppy Giants who now head to Dallas for a Thanksgiving Day game that should they lose, could damage their postseason hopes.

But the bad news doesn’t end there….

They’ll be short-handed come Thursday as they lost six players to injuries in this game: starting cornerbacks cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson (knee) and Fabian Moreau (ribs), center Jon Feliciano (knee), offensive tackle Tyree Phillips (neck), safety Jason Pinnock (jaw) and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (knee).

Here’s some winners, losers and in-betweens from Sunday’s loss.

Giants-Texans Week 10: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants won their Week 10 game against the Houston Texans. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The New York Giants held on to defeat the Houston Texans, 24-16, in Week 10. They led from start to finish and are now an impressive 7-2 on the season.

The performance was far from perfect as the Giants shot themselves in the foot several times, likely costing themselves additional points and a smoother win. But at the end of the day, a W is a W.

There’s a lot to break down and a lot to go over but before we look ahead, let’s look back. Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ latest victory.

Offensive snaps: 69
Defensive snaps: 64
Special teams snaps: 30

The 26 offensive snaps for wide receiver Kenny Golladay are telling. He entered the game expected to play a “significant role” but was benched in the second half after failing to secure either of his first two targets (one a clear drop).

Head coach Brian Daboll also went extra heavy in this game, which is why so many reserve offensive lineman took snaps. Nick Gates again led the way in that department. The returning Matt Peart also saw time on the field.

On defense, linebacker Tae Crowder saw his role almost completely diminish. He was benched in favor of rookie Micah McFadden, who took 56% of the defensive snaps.

Giants’ Brian Daboll: Micah McFadden making most of opportunities

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is impressed with rookies Micah McFadden and Tomon Fox, who are making the most of their chances.

New York Giants rookie inside linebacker Micah McFadden has been getting more playing time of late. In Sunday’s game, McFadden played on 42 percent of the defensive snaps.

Head coach Brian Daboll was asked on Monday the reason the team is gaining confidence in the fifth round selection out of Indiana.

“Continual improvement,” said Daboll. “He’s done the right thing, on and off the field. We use a lot of packages on defense and shuffle a lot of guys in and out, and that was something that we were going to do this week and give him some chances. He made the most of them.”

McFadden made four tackles in the Giants’ 27-13 loss to the Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday, including his first NFL sack. Another rookie linebacker that saw 42 percent of the snaps on Sunday was Tomon Fox, the undrafted free agent out of North Carolina that impressed one of their most famous alums, Lawrence Taylor, this summer.

Fox led the Giants with eight total stops in the game, two for a loss. Daboll is a proponent of rewarding players who make the most out of their opportunities.

“I think we’ll play the guys that we think earned it and then for that particular week gives us a chance that we think is best for our team,” Daboll said. “That’s what we’ve always done, and that’s what we’ll always do.”

That bodes well for McFadden and Fox, two players who will be hard to keep off the field going forward.

The New York Giants came into Seattle riding a four-game winning streak and a 6-1 record. The Seahawks were also hot, winning three of their last four and sitting atop the NFC West.

The weight of the winning streak (and their depleted roster) were too much for the Giants to overcome this week as they fell to the Seahawks, 27-13.

Here are some winners, losers and in-betweens from Sunday’s game.

Dexter Lawrence, Andrew Thomas were highest-graded Giants in Week 4

Pro Football Focus grades are out and Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas led the way for the New York Giants in Week 4.

Giants defeat Bears: Winners, losers and those in between

The New York Giants defeated the Chicago Bears, 20-12, on Sunday and here are the winners and losers (and those in between) from the game.

The New York Giants defeated the Chicago Bears, 20-12, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday. The win improved their record to 3-1 for the first time since 2011 under head coach Tom Coughlin.

Here are some winners, losers and in-betweens from the Week 4 game.

Giants vs. Jets Player of the Game: LB Austin Calitro

New York Giants LB Austin Calitro is the player of the game from the preseason finale.

The New York Giants were defeated by their cross-town rivals, the New York Jets, in Week 3 of the preseason.

The 31-27 loss brings the Giants to 2-1 in the preseason. Big Blue rested most of their starters in this game letting the players fighting for roster spots show out. And one player that demonstrated that he deserves a shot on the roster was linebacker Austin Calitro.

Calitro has spent five years in the NFL with several teams as an inside linebacker. He’s had a modest career as a reserve player with 94 total tackles (seven for a loss), two passes defended, three quarterback hits, and one sack. On July 28th he signed with the Giants to give them offseason depth at linebacker. At the time Calitro had an uphill battle for a roster spot but his chances definitely improved against the Jets.

The former undrafted free agent out of Villanova was all over the field on Sunday. He recorded five tackles (one for a loss) and was responsible for two turnovers. Calitro’s first turnover was an interception from an errand pass from Joe Flacco that he returned 34 yards to the house.

Calitro’s second turnover was a recovered fumble off of a Micah McFadden tackle. It was a heads-up play by Calitro to dive on the ball. This was Calitro’s third turnover of the season as he picked off a Bailey Zappe pass in Week 1 of the preseason.

Giants defeat Bengals: Winners, losers and those in between

Here are the winners, losers and those in between from the New York Giants’ preseason Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

After a solid showing against the New England Patriots in Week 1 of the preseason, the New York Giants were back at it on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

Already down 18 players due to injury, the Giants quickly inflated that total. There were several notable injuries throughout the game, including to rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Back on the field, New York’s reserves struggled against the Cincinnati Bengals initially, but rebounded strong and closed things out on another Davis Webb comeback.

Giants training camp: 10 takeaways from Day 10

The New York Giants wrapped up training camp practice No. 10 on Monday and it included a massive fight involving players and coaches.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on Monday preparing for their first preseason game.

It may be hard to believe, but the last week without football until February has come and gone. The Giants, of course, hope to be playing that long themselves.

In a break from recent tradition, head coach Brian Daboll did not hold a press conference on Monday morning. Instead, he appeared on WFAN and allowed his coordinators — Mike Kafka, Wink Martindale and Thomas McGaughey — to handle the media.

Here are 10 quick takeaways from training camp practice No. 10.
