Previewing Sunday’s Michigan Wolverines vs. Florida State Seminoles odds and lines for their March Madness Sweet 16 matchup.

We are through two rounds of the NCAA Tournament and the Michigan Wolverines (22-4) are one of three top-seeded teams remaining. They will next face the fourth-seeded Florida State Seminoles (18-6) in the Sweet 16. Their game is Sunday at 5 p.m. ET at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Below, we’re taking an early look at the March Madness Sweet 16 Michigan-Florida State odds and lines. Don’t forget to check out all of the remaining teams’ March Madness odds, and check back later in the week for our full Sweet 16 breakdowns, picks and predictions.

Michigan has been in control in this tournament. It took care of 16th-seeded Texas Southern 82-66 in the first round and made it to the Sweet 16 by defeating eighth-seeded LSU 86-78 Monday behind senior G Eli Brooks’ 21 points and 7 assists.

Michigan was led this season by freshman C Hunter Dickinson‘s 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Wolverines shot the 3-pointer at a 38.6% clip, which was 12th-best in the country.

Florida State picked up a first-round win by defeating 13th-seeded UNC-Greensboro 64-54. They followed that up with a 71-53 win over Colorado, holding them to 35.7% shooting. On the season, Florida State held opponents to only 40.0% shooting overall, ranking 23rd in the nation.

Gonzaga vs. Creighton odds: Bulldogs heavily favored in Sweet 16

Previewing Sunday’s Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. Creighton Bluejays odds and lines during their March Madness Sweet 16 matchup.

The No. 5 seed Creighton Bluejays (22-8) take on the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (28-0) Sunday at 2:10 p.m. ET in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Below, we’re taking an early look at the March Madness Sweet 16 Creighton-Gonzaga odds and lines. Don’t forget to check out all of the remaining teams’ March Madness odds, and check back later in the week for our full Sweet 16 breakdowns, picks and predictions.

Creighton fell to Georgetown in the Big East championship game but won back-to-back games against UC Santa Barbara and Ohio to begin this tournament. The Bluejays have won five of their last six games, but they haven’t faced a test like the one Gonzaga will present Sunday. Although they won convincingly against Ohio in Round 2, they only snuck by 12th-seeded UC Santa Barbara by one point in the first round.

Gonzaga is unquestionably the best team in the tournament and has been the best team all year. The Bulldogs beat Norfolk State by 43 points and Oklahoma by 16 in the first two rounds. Their average margin of victory this season is 23.6 points, leading the nation with an average of 92.1 points scored per game. They’re also first in field-goal percentage, third in assists per game and eighth in free throws made per game.

Alabama vs. UCLA odds: Crimson Tide slight favorites in Sweet 16

Previewing Sunday’s Alabama vs. UCLA odds and lines during their March Madness Sweet 16 matchup.

The 11-seed UCLA Bruins (20-9) meet the 2-seed Alabama Crimson Tide (26-6) at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Sunday for a 7:15 p.m. ET tip-off on TBS in the East Region.

Below, we’re taking an early look at the March Madness Sweet 16 UCLA-Alabama odds and lines. Don’t forget to check out all of the remaining teams’ March Madness odds, and check back later in the week for our full Sweet 16 breakdowns, picks and predictions.

The Bruins finished the regular season on a three-game losing skid, and they lost in the opening game of the Pac-12 tourney. Not much was expected from them, as they were forced to play their way in from the First Four.

They snuck by Michigan State 86-80 in overtime Thursday as 2.5-point underdogs. They were once again underdogs in the first round, and they managed to keep BYU at a distance all evening to win 73-62 as 3.5-point dogs. Monday night, they took care of upstart Abilene Christian by a 67-47 count, easily covering a 5.5-point number.

Alabama, the SEC regular-season and tournament champ, pushed past Rick Pitino’s scrappy Iona squad in the first round, but failed to cover the 17-point spread. The Crimson Tide didn’t have much trouble against Maryland in the second round and powered past the Terps with 96 points, their most since a 115-point explosion against Georgia Feb. 13. Alabama has won both of its NCAA Tournament games by an average of 16.0 points per game.

Baylor vs. Villanova odds: Bears favored in Sweet 16 battle

Previewing Saturday’s Baylor Bears vs. Villanova Wildcats odds and lines for their March Madness Sweet 16 matchup.

The Villanova Wildcats (18-6) take on the Baylor Bears (24-2) in an NCAA South Region semifinal Saturday evening. The fifth-seeded Wildcats and top-seeded Bears are scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. ET tip-off at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Below, we’re taking an early look at the March Madness Sweet 16 Villanova-Baylor odds and lines. Don’t forget to check out all of the remaining teams’ March Madness odds, and check back later in the week for our full Sweet 16 breakdowns, picks and predictions.

Villanova came into the tournament having lost three of its last four games in the regular season and Big East Tournament. The Wildcats advanced to this level with two relatively easy wins: A 73-63 triumph over Winthrop and an 84-61 victory over North Texas.

‘Nova is solid at both ends of the floor. On offense, the Wildcats are frequent launchers of 3-point attempts. In their Sunday win over UNT, they went 15-for-30 from distance, tying a season-high for most treys made.

Defensively, Villanova is playing some of its best basketball of the season. Over their last eight games, the Wildcats have held opponents to a 39.6% mark from the floor and a 29.9% mark from 3-point-land.

VU is trying to make a March run without senior G Collin Gillespie (knee), who averaged 14.0 points and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc in 20 games this season.

Baylor is No. 3 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The high-scoring Bears (83.8 points per game, fourth NCAA) won their first 18 games this season. They fell to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament, but they’ve coasted to two wins over Hartford and Wisconsin in this tournament.

The Bears are first in the nation in 3-point accuracy (41.5%). Among the group of teams remaining, BU’s defense is below average. Baylor creates a lot of turnovers (37 through two tourney games) which fuels a solid transition game. The Bears are 3-6 against the spread in their last nine games. The Over is 8-2 in their last 10.

Oregon vs. USC odds: USC mild favorites over Oregon in Sweet 16

Previewing Saturday’s Oregon Ducks vs. USC Trojans odds and lines during their March Madness Sweet 16 matchup.

The 7th-seed Oregon Ducks (22-6) will meet the 6th-seed USC Trojans (24-7) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Sunday at 9:45 p.m. ET on TBS in the East Region.

Today we’re taking an early look at the March Madness Sweet 16 matchup Oregon-USC odds and lines. Don’t forget to check out all of the remaining teams’ March Madness odds, and check back later in the week for our full Sweet 16 breakdowns, picks and predictions.

The Ducks essentially had a first-round bye due to the unfortunate situation with VCU and COVID protocols. Oregon was awarded the win by no contest, but that didn’t affect them heading into the second round. The Ducks were able to power past two-seed Iowa in the second round by a 95-80 score as 4.5-point underdogs as the Over (151.5) comfortably connected. UO had four players in double digits, led by Chris Duarte with 23 and LJ Figueroa with 21. The latter also added seven rebounds while hitting five triples.

The Trojans were bumped from the Pac-12 tourney against Colorado, falling 72-70 March 12. That loss really lit a fire under USC, as it’s playing their best basketball, perhaps of the entire season. USC trounced Drake by a 72-56 count in the first round, easily covering a 7.5-point number as the Under (135) connected. That paled in comparison to the amazing display against third-seed Kansas, as the Trojans rolled to an 85-51 rout, showing why the lower seed was actually favored by 1.5 points. These teams met just once in the regular season, with USC topping Oregon 72-58 as 3.5-point favorites Feb. 22 in Los Angeles as the Under (139.5) cashed.

Oregon State vs. Loyola Chicago odds: Loyola expected to roll in Sweet 16

Previewing Saturday’s Oregon State vs. Loyola Chicago odds and lines during their March Madness Sweet 16 matchup.

The 12th-seed Oregon State Beavers (19-12) will meet the 8th-seed Loyola Chicago Ramblers (26-4) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Saturday at 2:40 p.m. ET on CBS in the Midwest Region.

Today we’re taking an early look at the March Madness Sweet 16 matchup Oregon State-Loyola Chicago odds and lines. Don’t forget to check out all of the remaining teams’ March Madness odds, and check back later in the week for our full Sweet 16 breakdowns, picks and predictions.

Oregon State has been impressive so far in the postseason. The Beavers carried over the momentum from their surprising Big 12 Tournament victory, dispatching Tennessee 70-56 in the first round and Oklahoma State by an 80-70 count in the second round. The Beavers have covered five in a row, and they’re an insane 12-1 ATS across the past 13 games overall. The Over is also 7-1 across their past eight outings.

The Ramblers have rumbled into the Sweet Sixteen, topping ACC Champion Georgia Tech by a 71-60 score as five-point favorites in the first round. While some might argue they caught a break with ACC Player of the Year Moses Wright being held out due to COVID, there was nothing to say about their impressive second-round win. They bounced No. 1 seed Illinois from the tournament, much to the delight of 101-year-old super fan Sister Jean Schmidt. Cameron Krutwig dominated against the Illini with 19 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Bank on these 3 March Madness Round 1 upsets

Previewing Round 1 of the 2021 March Madness tournament, with picks and predictions for the best upsets to bet.

The 2021 March Madness NCAA Tournament is back, and the field of 64 tips off Friday afternoon in Indiana. Below, we analyze three Round 1 upsets to target on the odds and lines, with March Madness picks and predictions.

It won’t be the same as previous years, but it’s better than the alternative like we saw last year when the tournament was canceled.

Part of the allure for bettors and casual fans alike is the potential for upsets. While I personally do not fill out brackets, I love to bet the games and I’m always looking to mine those money-line gems.

Let’s start small.

3 March Madness Round 1 upsets to bet

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 10:05 p.m. ET.

11 Utah State (+155) vs. 6 Texas Tech (Friday at 1:45 p.m. ET)

The Aggies racked up 20 victories this season and they head into the NCAA Tournament with six wins over their past seven outings. They came up just short in a 68-57 loss to San Diego State in the Mountain West Conference Final, but they’re a dangerous team with two wins this season against the Aztecs, a fellow MWC team in the NCAA Tournament.

PLAY: USA TODAY March Madness Bracket Game

What makes the Aggies special is their defense. They allowed just 62.9 points per game to rank 24th in the nation, and they were 18th in defensive field-goal percentage at 39.6. If they have an Achilles’ heel, it’s their inability to prevent the 3-pointer, giving up triples at a 34.4% clip to rank 233rd in the country.

Texas Tech wasn’t a good team from behind the arc, so Utah State won’t need to worry too much about that part of the game from the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech was the national runner-up in 2019, falling in overtime in Minneapolis in the last NCAA Tournament game played as Virginia cut down the nets. This version of the team struggles from the floor and is not a good free-throw shooting team. That makes the Aggies a rather attractive play straight up.

13 Liberty (+280) vs. 4 Oklahoma State (Friday at 6:25 p.m. ET)

It has been a great year for Liberty athletics. The football team enjoyed its first-ever national ranking at one point, and the basketball team is dancing. It could get even better.

The Flames ranked ninth with a 3-point percentage of 38.8 to tie fellow NCAA Tournament combatant Oral Roberts in that department. Liberty enters on a 12-game win streak starting Jan. 16 at Stetson. Liberty picked up victories on a neutral floor against Mississippi State and South Carolina this season, so it won’t be fazed by the big stage.

The Cowboys of Oklahoma State were so-so defending the three, allowing 32.2% from behind the arc to rank 94th. If Liberty starts canning shots from long distance and OSU tries to keep up, that could be a problem, too. They ranked just 179th in the nation during the regular season on 3-point shooting, and they were just 71.1% from the free-throw line. It doesn’t bode well for Oklahoma State in a close game.

14 Colgate (+333) vs. 3 Arkansas (Friday at 12:45 p.m. ET)

Fans “brushing up” on Colgate will discover it shot lights out from behind the 3-point line. OK, no more toothpaste jokes, I promise.

The Raiders were second in the nation with 85.7 PPG, they were 11th in field-goal shooting at 49.8% and they hit 38.4% from behind the 3-point line to rank 17th. They’re also a good free-throw shooting team at 75.2% in case it’s a close one.

Defensively, the Raiders allowed just 67.8 PPG, they were 27th in defensive field-goal percentage and they ranked first in the country in allowing just 26.3% from behind the arc. Not since the days of Adonal Foyle have the Raiders entered the NCAA Tournament with such high expectations, even if they are just a 14-seed.

Arkansas resembles the Nolan Richardson days of “40 Minutes of Hell”, as it can run up and down with the best of them, but they’ll have their work cut out trying to solve a strong Colgate interior defense. If Colgate starts hitting long-distance shots, the Razorbacks could be in for a long afternoon.

Texas vs. Abilene Christian odds: Longhorns favored in March Madness Round 1

Previewing Saturday’s Texas vs. Abilene Christian odds and lines for their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The Abilene Christian Wildcats (23-4) take on the Texas Longhorns (19-7) in an NCAA East Region First Round game Saturday night with a 9:50 p.m. ET tip-off at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 Texas-Abilene Christian odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Abilene Christian — the No. 14 seed in the East — won 12 of its last 13 games and enters the national tournament as champions of the Southland Conference. The Wildcat starting lineup features three players under 6-foot-1, but ACU makes up for its lack of size with a tenacious defense.

The Wildcats have held opponents to just 60.5 points per game (seventh NCAA-I). ACU is adept at turning steals into breakaway buckets at the other end.

The Wildcats gave South Region sixth-seeded Texas Tech nearly everything it could handle in a Dec. 9 game in Lubbock, Texas. Abilene Christian led that game by one point with under 10 minutes remaining before falling 51-44.

PLAY in the USA TODAY Sports’ bracket sweepstakes! Printable brackets. Private groups. Prizes. And mobile users can play USA TODAY Sports’ Couchketball virtual hoops challenge – the interactive basketball game where your skills determine the outcome!

The third-seeded Longhorns won the Big 12 Tournament after going 11-6 in conference play. Texas has come on lately after enduring some shooting woes in February. UT is 5-0 since March 2; all five games were on the road or on neutral courts. Texas is 5-0 at neutral sites this season.

Texas hasn’t won a first-round game since 2015. Six-foot-10 F Jericho Sims scored 21 points in UT’s last game, a 91-86 win over Oklahoma State. Sims is one of six Longhorns averaging more than 8 points per game.

Eastern Washington vs. Kansas odds: Jayhawks favored in March Madness Round 1

Previewing Saturday’s Eastern Washington Eagles vs. Kansas Jayhawks odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The Eastern Washington Eagles (16-7) meet the Kansas Jayhawks (20-8) in an NCAA West Region First Round Game on Saturday afternoon (1:45 p.m. ET) at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Eastern Washington-Kansas odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Eastern Washington — the No. 14 seed in the West Region — won the Big Sky Tournament, holding foes to a 37.8% shooting performance in three games. And the Eagles are a fast-tempo five better known for their offensive prowess. EWU heads into its first NCAA Tournament since 2015 averaging a robust 78.0 points per game.

The Eagles are 13-1 since Jan. 23. Ten of those wins have been by double-digit margins.

The third-seeded Jayhawks went 12-6 to place second in the Big 12. Kansas struggled in January, going 3-5 over eight games. But the Jayhawks have rallied: they are 9-2 since.

Kansas has been especially sharp on defense in its recent 11-game run. Over that span, the Jayhawks have averaged 61.9 points per game while holding foes to a 38.3% mark from the field. F David McCormack has also been a force during the surge. Since Jan. 28, McCormack has shot 56.9% from the floor while averaging 15.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. However, the 6-foot-10 junior missed the Big 12 tournament due to COVID-19 protocols (Kansas was knocked out of the event with a positive test). His status is key to a prospective run in these brackets.

Arkansas vs. Colgate odds: Razorbacks favored in March Madness Round 1

Previewing Friday’s Colgate Raiders vs. Arkansas Razorbacks odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 14-seed Colgate Raiders (14-1) take on the 3-seed Arkansas Razorbacks (22-6) in an NCAA South Region First Round Game Friday, March 1 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The tip-off is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. ET and the game will broadcast on truTV.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Colgate-Arkansas odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Colgate heads to Indy as champions of the Patriot League. The Raiders didn’t begin their season until Jan. 2. They played Army Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, losing the second of those games; and CU hasn’t lost since.

The Raiders take good care of the basketball while playing a fast tempo. Three-hundred-and-forty-seven teams have played NCAA-I basketball this winter; Colgate has averaged more points per game (86.3) than 345 of them.

Senior guard play leads the way for the Raiders: G Jordan Burns, G Jack Ferguson, and G Nelly Cummings—all seniors—are CU’s top three scorers. Burns is the fifth-leading scorer in the Patriot League (17.0 points per game) and the circuit’s top assist distributor (5.3 per game).

Arkansas is a strong defensive squad despite playing at a top-20 pace. The Razorbacks are 9-1 overall over their last 10 games—with an SEC tourney loss after a nine-game winning streak—and over those 10 games, they’ve held opposing shooters to a 40.4% mark from the field.

The Razorbacks carry a couple of betting trends into the brackets. Arkansas is 8-2 against the spread over its last 10 games. In the team’s last seven games, the Under is 5-2.
