Chad Johnson says Ja’Marr Chase’s low Madden 23 rating could change

Former Bengal Chad Johnson believes Ja’Marr Chase’s Madden 23 rating could hit the 90s in the first few weeks of the season.

Madden 23 is almost here, and, as you’ve probably seen, many fans aren’t happy about the ratings — especially when it comes to Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase

In fact, of the thousands of calls to the Madden ratings hotline (yes, that’s a real thing), Chase is the most requested player for a rating adjustment.

There’s no one better to ask about Chase’s current 87 rating than former Bengal and current Madden rating adjuster Chad Johnson. In an interview with Mackenzie Salmon on Sports Seriously, Johnson shared his reaction to the rating

“…knowing Ja’Marr, I don’t think he would be upset, because it’s just motivation,” Johnson said. “Me being one of the rating adjusters, he’s one of those that goes, ‘Oh, yeah, 87? OK, watch this,’ and that’s who he is.”

Johnson believes Chase’s rating could hit the 90s in the first few weeks of the season.

“He’s built different, so his 87 can be a 92 by Week 4,” Johnson said. “He has a certain something about him — you can’t coach it, you can’t teach it, it’s just in you. He’s got that ‘it’ factor.”

The NFL and Electronic Arts renew Madden esports deal

Competitive Madden will be huge for many years, thanks to an all-new contract extension between the NFL and EA.

Less than two weeks remain until Madden NFL 23 comes out, and the long-running football simulation is gearing up for a massive competitive season.

On Wednesday, Electronic Arts (EA) and the National Football League (NFL) announced that the Madden NFL Championship Series (MCS) esports deal will continue. No precise times were given for the extension, only that it’ll keep going for several years.

Perhaps the most noteworthy part of this announcement is that MCS tournaments will coincide with the actual NFL season. For instance, the Ultimate Madden NFL 23 Bowl takes place early next year, right around Super Bowl LVII. Ed Kiang, vice president of gaming at the NFL, claims the partnership will maximize engagement with fans worldwide.

“As a trusted partner for more than 30 years, EA’s commitment to football authenticity with Madden NFL is exemplary,” Kiang said in a press release. “Extending our partnership with EA is another avenue for the League to grow fandom off the field and enhance the EA SPORTS Madden NFL Championship Series by aligning Madden competitive gaming with NFL moments. Our joint efforts will drive the type of excitement that NFL fans expect while also highlighting the best Madden players in the world.”

An astounding $1.7 million prize pool will be spread throughout various MCS tournaments until next February. Both companies are clearly sparing no expense.

Madden NFL esports continues to deepen the love of the game with fans, players, and viewers. It’s teaching viewers how to improve at the game, while deepening engagement with Madden‘s most loyal fanbase,” Brent Koning, vice president of EA Esports, said in a press release. “Since the MCS started five years ago, it has helped showcase the game by elevating the greatest players in the world, while giving every single Madden NFL player the chance to go from couch to champion. We can’t wait to see how the MCS 23 season unfolds.”

As a reminder, Madden NFL 23 comes out on Aug. 19, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. EA already revealed the highest-rated quarterbacks, wide receivers, edge rushers, running backs, cornerbacks, defensive linemen, 99 club members, and overall team stats.

Tyrel Dodson had perfect Madden 23 troll on Bills teammate Isaiah McKenzie

All in good fun:

Bills wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie was none too happy with the ratings he received in the upcoming edition of the NFL video game, Madden 23.

McKenzie posted to his social media account on Twitter to complain a bit. He said “I can’t catch a break around here” in his message:

Then came the fun part via linebacker Tyrel Dodson.

The Bills defender and special teamer saw McKenzie’s message. Instead of reassuring McKenzie that Madden got it wrong, he added to it with a hilarious response.

Dodson added that McKenzie’s “hygiene” rating was only 15 overall.

Ouch–But you got to give it up for Dodson’s joke. It was a solid one. McKenzie eventually replied that Dodson is “in trouble starting 7/24,” the date the Bills reported for training camp.

Xavien Howard feels disrespected by his Madden rating

He has every right to be annoyed.

The release of the newest edition of EA Sports’ Madden video game franchise is like Christmas Day for some people. The game can be more than just a fun thing to do to pass time, it’s also how a lot of people get familiar with the sport and keep up with the teams and players in the league.

Last week, EA Sports released their launch ratings for Madden 23 which is set to hit shelves and virtual stores on August 19. One of the most shocking ratings was the 89 overall that Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard received which put him tied for 10th at the position.

On Wednesday, Howard was asked about his rating, and he felt the same way that most Dolphins fans did, but it’s not new for him.

“I’m used to the disrespect,” Howard said. “They [Madden] always disrespect guys from Miami. I don’t know what it is.”

Last season, Howard went to the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career, as he recorded 50 tackles, 16 passes defended, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. All of that comes one year after he was a First-Team All-Pro.

When Madden 22’s launch ratings were announced, Howard was a 91 overall, sixth at the position. It’s both interesting and confusing that he moved down two overall points after another Pro Bowl season. It’s understandable that he feels disrespected.

Vikings Madden NFL 23 ratings for rookie draft picks

How do the Vikings’ rookies stack up on Madden NFL 23?

Madden rankings are not the be-all, end-all, but they do mean something.

The rankings are an algorithm that takes each metric and aggregates it to an overall number. The higher certain metrics are, the higher your overall rating is.

Some mean more than others. For example, throwing accuracy means a ton for a quarterback’s overall ranking but next to nothing for a tight end. Because of that, a really good player might be ranked lower than you think he should be.

The other element of these rankings are that Madden usually is a year behind players. One example is Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase who, despite a major breakout season, was ranked as an 87.

A long track record of success is the best way to receive a higher ranking. The same theory goes with rookies. Their rankings are inherently lower because they haven’t played a snap in the league. Each of the 10 Vikings draft picks now have their first ever Madden Ranking.

Here’s how they ranked amongst each other.

The best Madden 23 ratings for Badgers in the NFL

Which Badgers led the way in Madden 23 ratings?

It was down to the wire for a pair of Badgers as to who would have the highest rating in Madden 23 among Wisconsin alumni.

Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt leads the way for defensive players out of Madison as he checks in with the highest rating of his career. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is among the highest movers in terms of rating from the beginning of last year to the beginning of this year.

A number of other Badgers came in with impressive numbers, but Taylor and Watt lead the way. Here is a look at the best ratings for notable Badgers in the NFL:

Dolphins’ Brandon Jones posts funny reaction to his Madden rating

The safety was hurt by the rating.

This past week, EA Sports, the publisher of the Madden video game franchise, released launch ratings for the newest installment of the game, Madden 23 which comes out on August 19.

We spent some time this week going through the ratings for nearly every member of the Miami Dolphins that was announced, and there were plenty that fans and media had gripes with, including cornerback Xavien Howard being tied for the 10th-best cornerback in the game.

Dolphins third-year safety Brandon Jones took to Tik Tok to react to his 72 overall rating, and it feels like he’s hurt by the news.

@blessedjones33

Well that’s something💀

♬ original sound – me personally…

Jones continues to be hilarious off the field, and he’s probably right, 72 does seem pretty low.
