Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023 high school performance tracker

Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023 performance tracker #GoBucks

As we eagerly await the kickoff of the contest between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, we can pass the time by monitoring some of the top high school prospects that have committed to the Buckeyes in the class of 2023. As it stands, Ohio State currently has the fourth-ranked class in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but the hope is they will rise up these rankings.

This class appears to be offense-heavy with a few stud receivers and some intriguing offensive linemen, but the Buckeyes need to add some more defensive help. I wanted to provide a brief recap of some of the top recruits in the Ohio State class and how they have performed so far during their high school season.

As it stands, Ohio State currently has the sixth-ranked class in the nation, but the hope is after one of the biggest recruiting weekends in Ohio State history, they will rise up these rankings.

Ohio State commit trying to help flip Notre Dame’s top 2023 verbal

Could other teams just leave him alone???

As if Notre Dame commit [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag] visiting Alabama recently didn’t hurt, now it is Ohio State that is coming after the Irish commit. This is a bit different, as it isn’t the Ohio State staff publicly going after Keeley, it’s one of their commits, Ohio offensive lineman Luke Montgomery.

The Buckeye commit has his eye on helping their coaching staff flip Keeley, after this tweet it’s obvious when he is trying to do it. During the season opener between the two Midwest powers, when many eyes will be on this game as it holds not just regional significance, but national as well.

It’s not something that any of us like to see, but it’s part of having elite recruits in a class. Unfortunately, [autotag] Marcus Freeman[/autotag] having so much success on the recruiting trail is going to bring these kind of flip attempts. Hopefully the Irish are able to stave off both Alabama and Ohio State and keep Keeley in their 2023 class.

Ohio State Football Recruiting: 2023 class commitment tracker

Ohio State Football Recruiting: 2023 class commitment tracker #GoBucks

The Ohio State football recruiting freight train is chugging along for the class of 2023 and as of right now 247 Sports , On3 and Sports Illustrated has ranked the Ohio State recruiting class number two in the country. As it currently stands on July 5, 2022, the Buckeyes have two five-star commits, 13 four-star commits, and a three-star legacy commit.

There were early concerns that the 2023 recruiting cycle may not be as kind to Ohio State as the state of Ohio looks to have a down year as far as talent and the reclassification of Sonny Styles, only makes that talent even more shallow, but Ryan Day and his crew are proving that big things are on the horizon no matter what recruiting obstacles they face.

Here is the recruiting tracker for the Ohio State recruiting class for 2023.

Ohio State football now has top recruiting class for 2023

Ohio State now has top 247Sports Composite recruiting class for 2023 #GoBucks

It feels like every day a new top recruit announces their allegiance and intentions to enroll at Ohio State. Last week three top receivers committed and this week we have already had a top cornerback announce his commitment

Now, it is still very early in the recruiting process, but if Ohio State can maintain its recruiting momentum, the Buckeyes will finish with the top class in all of college football. The most recent commitment from Kayin Lee allowed Ohio State to edge out Notre Dame and Texas for the top class in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The following are the current commits to Ohio State:

  1. Brandon Inniss, WR, 5 Star
  2. Carnell Tate, WR, 5 Star
  3. Luke Montgomery, OT, 4 Star
  4. Noah Rogers, WR, 4 Star
  5. Dijon Johnson, CB, 4 Star
  6. Ty Lockwood, TE, 4 Star
  7. Kayin Lee, CB, 4 Star
  8. Malik Hartford, S, 4 Star
  9. Joshua Padilla, IOL, 4 Star
  10. Cedrick Hawkins, S, 4 Star
  11. Mark Fletcher, RB, 4 Star
  12. Austin Siereveld, IOL, 4 Star
  13. Bryson Rodgers, WR, 4 Star
  14. Will Smith, DL, 3 Star

That’s quite the haul already with still plenty of room and plenty of prospects still looking at Ryan Day and the OSU program. Day is on pace to top 300 points for this class with a few more marquee players according to the 247Sports Composite, and that’s rare air indeed if you follow these sorts of things.

Big-time QB soaks in knowledge from Clemson legend during ‘awesome’ visit

One of the nation’s top gunslingers in the class of 2025 was back in Tiger Town last week. As he checked out various programs this summer, Findlay (Oh.) quarterback Ryan Montgomery made sure to stop at Clemson.

“It was awesome,” Montgomery told The Clemson Insider regarding his Clemson visit. “What was cool was Tajh Boyd was with us the entire time. He’s on staff now at Clemson, so that was really cool to see. The amount of former players that are on staff now at Clemson is just unreal like it’s the most of any place I’ve ever been to. That speaks measures by itself. The visit itself went really well. We toured around the campus and the facilities and went out to dinner.”

Clemson’s culture immediately stood out to Montgomery. It wasn’t his first time on campus, but the way Clemson cares for its players is something that immediately grabbed his attention.

“They have such a strong brotherhood there that I really like,” he said.

Montgomery spent a lot of his time on campus with Boyd.

“He’s not just a football player, he’s a really successful former player at Clemson,” Montgomery said of Boyd. “Just seeing the amount of knowledge he has, when he’s talking to you, you just want to soak up as much as possible. When you’re talking to him, you’re learning from him and you’re learning from the best.”

Boyd is part of a tradition at Clemson that has made Tiger Town an intriguing option for quarterback recruits around the country. The success that Boyd, Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence had at Clemson is definitely something Montgomery will have to consider when evaluating the development he’ll get from potential suitors at the next level.

“It definitely does, just seeing the past couple of quarterbacks have had in recent years at Clemson,” Montgomery said. “Obviously, the dream goal is to play college football and succeed there. The dream goal is to one-time play in the NFL. That’s the dream. Clemson is definitely a place that can develop you that can get to that point. “

Academics come first, though. Montgomery understands that getting a degree from Clemson will set him up for life. He also got to witness that first-hand in his older brother’s recruitment.

Clemson was among the final suitors for 2023 four-star offensive tackle Luke Montgomery,  who verbally pledged to Ohio State earlier this year. The way Clemson recruited Luke and treated the Montgomery family stood out to Ryan and left him wanting to find out more about the program for his own recruitment.

“For sure,” he said. “They’re amazing people and I’d say that they’re a player-first culture and that is really awesome. They really care about their players, not just the development on the field, but off the field and as a person and things like becoming a better husband, a better son and everything like that. I just thought that was really cool and, obviously, they really care about getting a degree at Clemson. I know that’s big in our family — academics.”

In addition to Clemson, Ryan checked out other programs like Michigan State, Virginia, North  Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky.

“Not every kid gets this opportunity, so I definitely don’t take it for granted,” Ryan said about getting back on the recruiting trail this summer. “I soak in as much as possible…and at the end of the day it’s just a blessing and it’s really cool to get around to all these places, learn about these schools and just keep building these relationships with all these coaches.”

While Ryan loved being on these recruiting trips, he was also ready to get back with his team. He hates missing out on the workouts. That speaks to Ryan’s character, but we also wanted to find out who he is as a player from his own point of view.

“I’d say I’m more of a prototypical quarterback,” Ryan said when asked to describe himself as a player. “I’d say I’m more of a drop-back passer. The one thing I’d say is that I’m a really good leader and my work ethic is second to none.”

No fanbase is more passionate about winning. Clemson fans and businesses have always stepped up to provide what is needed for the Tigers to compete with the best. The college landscape has changed with name, image and likeness. Dear Old Clemson will do things the ‘Clemson way’ to support a grassroots effort to help the best fanbase in the nation meet this new challenge.  Visit Dear Old Clemson to find out how you can help!

Clemson checks in on Ohio QB, brother of former Tigers’ target

Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin was in Ohio Wednesday. It’s not the first time that the Tigers have scoured The Buckeye State for offensive line help and while Austin visited a familiar school, he wasn’t there to check in on an offensive lineman.

He was at Findlay (Oh.) High School to meet with the program’s head coach, Stefan Adams. Austin previously recruited Luke Montgomery out of Findlay, but he pledged to Ohio State earlier this year.

The elationship he built with Clemson’s offensive line coach is a strong one, so Montgomery phoned Austin to inform him of his decision before making his announcement. Austin wasn’t at Findlay for Montgomery, though. Funny enough, he was there to talk with Adams about Montgomery’s younger brother, Ryan, who is among one of the best quarterbacks in the class of 2025.

“He was just checking in,” Adams told The Clemson Insider. “Ryan’s the quarterback. I think, obviously, just showing a little bit of interest. We’ve built a good relationship on our end. I think anytime that he can get out to Ohio, I think he’d like to swing by and catch up. We have a couple of young guys as well too, that besides Ryan, can have some possibilities down the line.”

Even though he’s only a freshman, Ryan currently holds offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami (OH), Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Tennessee and Toledo.

“I think it starts with his family, I think it starts with him as an individual,” Adams said when asked about Ryan’s makeup. “I’d like to say as we can kind of progress and move forward with our program overall, I’d like to think that people are deciding to come and see us at all levels because of the quality of people we have.

“Ryan’s a very high-cerebral young man. He’s a little more reserved, but also he’s young. I’m super excited to see what he has to build on in the future. He played as a freshman. He started every game of the year and went on to a playoff run. He did a fantastic job and had great, solid numbers in passing, touchdown and interception ratio. He’s worked extremely hard this offseason to continue to build on his skill set.”

Adams is super impressed with a kid who was 6-foot-2, 180-pounds as a freshman — which as a freshman is pretty good. Ryan has grown an inch and added 20 pounds to his frame after dedicating himself to the weight room this offseason. He’s also dedicated himself to his craft and has also gotten better as a quarterback.

“He’s really doing the job that it takes to be, not just a talented football player, but also a top-notch student-athlete,” Adams said.

With that being said, Ryan is his own person. While he has the influence and support of his older brother, he’s going to be making his own decisions, as far as his recruitment is concerned.

Though, Luke’s relationship with schools like Clemson could help open some doors for Ryan during his recruiting process.

“They all know that this is Ryan’s deal, this is Ryan’s recruitment,” Adams continued. “Luke has done a really great job of really trying to help prepare Ryan for the things that are in front of him and ultimately, I think the Clemson guys, the Clemson staff, knows that we want to continue to have options for all of our kids.

“As the journey goes on, I think the way we treat them, the way they treat us, they want to keep the door open. I think even mom and dad and the family have done a really good job of keeping things open. He’s not too good for any school. He’s definitely interested in his own path, his own recruitment. He’s looking forward to going on this journey.”

Congratulations! You did it! You graduated! Now is the time to preserve your diploma in a custom frame. Here at Clemson Variety & Frame, we build all our frames in-house – from the frame to the mats and etchings to the installation – to guarantee the quality. You worked hard for your degree. Trust us to show your diploma in the best light possible.

Top 5 football recruits from the state of Ohio in the class of 2023

Top 5 football recruits from the state of Ohio in the class of 2023 #GoBucks

The 2022 recruiting cycle is almost in the books and the Ohio State Buckeyes did very well with a consensus top-five recruiting class in the nation and what is widely considered the best class in the Big Ten by a wide margin. This class has been marked with heavy hitters like C.J. Hicks, Devin Brown, and Kenyatta Jackson.

Another big deal was the reclassification of what was supposed to be a five-star stud in the class of 2023 in Sonny Styles to the class of 2022 and he will be enrolling in time for spring, but it is never too early to take a peek at what the next class has to offer.

Notre Dame misses out on Ohio 2023 offensive lineman

Would have been nice

The Irish have a solid recent success recruiting in Ohio but their luck may be changing with some of the best prospects in state. They missed out on Sonny Styles, brother of Lorenzo, in last years class.

Today, the Irish missed out on another top Ohioan as offensive lineman Luke Montgomery committed to in-state power Ohio State this afternoon. The Irish were in his final group, but were unable to reel in one of the best lineman in the country. Montgomery choose the Buckeyes out of an impressive list of offers which included Alabama, USC, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and others.

The 2023 Irish class is still strong, still ranked as one of the best, if not the best early on in the cycle but unfortunately they won’t be adding Montgomery to the group.

BOOM! Four-Star offensive lineman, Luke Montgomery, commits to Ohio State

Ohio State lands the No. 1 rated player in the Buckeye State! #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team got some outstanding news today when the highest-rated player in the Buckeye State chose the Buckeyes. Luke Montgomery decided to stay home as he committed to OSU live on CBS Sports HQ to the cheers of classmates and family.

Montgomery is a four-star recruit out of Findlay, Ohio. He is the No. 4 rated offensive tackle in the country and a top 50 overall recruit according to 247Sports composite rankings. Montgomery’s commitment moves Ohio State to No. 7 in the 2023 recruiting rankings with plenty of room to continue rising.

The Findlay Trojan picked the Buckeyes over the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

Ohio State was long favored to land Mongomery, but rumors started to swirl when Greg Studrawa was let go. New offensive line coach, Justin Frye made Montgomery a priority and it paid off. The newly committed tackle makes five commits for the Bucks in the 2023 class.
