DeMarvion Overshown lives his dream in playing for Cowboys, Longhorns

“You have two dreams if you play football at a young age: Play for the Texas Longhorns or the Dallas Cowboys.”

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is living the dream. The former Longhorns standout and first team all-conference selection can now check playing for his childhood dream teams off his bucket list.

Overshown discussed his football career with Dallas media after being drafted by the Cowboys.

“It’s special. Especially when you think back to when you were a little boy. You have two dreams if you play football at a young age. It’s to either play for the Texas Longhorns or play for the Dallas Cowboys. And I got to do both. So it’s a blessing. … I can’t stop smiling about it. And even when people ask me about it and I say I’m a Dallas Cowboy… it’s crazy, because that’s all I dreamed of being.”

While the talented player is fortunate to play for his top two teams, Overshown has earned each honor he’s been given.

The former five-star prospect was seemingly everything his team needed at linebacker last season. Now, he’ll look to bring that level of dependability to the Cowboys.

Former Texas DT Poona Ford agrees to one-year deal with Buffalo Bills

“Ford turned down more money elsewhere to try to win a ring in Buffalo.”

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Poona Ford is heading to a new NFL team. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Ford has agreed to a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.

Pelissero had the following thoughts on what Ford’s signing means to the Bills franchise and its 2023 prospects for contention.

“One of the top free agents still available, Ford turned down more money elsewhere to try to win a ring in Buffalo. A big (literally) post-draft addition for Sean McDermott’s defense.”

McDermott earned the head coaching position with the Bills after coaching a dominant Carolina Panthers defense in 2015. Now he has a chance to field a strong defense in Buffalo for his high scoring offense led by quarterback Josh Allen.

In the case of Poona Ford, the undersized defender has a chance to shut down the inside of the line of scrimmage for a championship contending team. He could be a piece that helps catapult the Bills past the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason.

Former Texas DB Anthony Cook signs undrafted free agency deal with Kansas City

The Longhorns have now sent seven players to the NFL this offseason, five draftees and two undrafted free agents.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Texas defensive back Anthony Cook to an undrafted free agency deal following the 2023 NFL Draft. Continue reading “Former Texas DB Anthony Cook signs undrafted free agency deal with Kansas City”

11 former Texas Longhorns to watch in the NFL playoffs

Multiple Longhorns will compete for a Super Bowl this postseason.

The Texas Longhorns are sending several players to the NFL playoffs this postseason. Among them are a couple of players new to postseason play.

Cameron Dicker will see his first postseason game for the Los Angeles Chargers. Presumably, the former Longhorns kicker would choose Philadelphia, the team that cut him, to be his Super Bowl opponent should the Chargers make a run.

After scoring his first NFL touchdown, Joseph Ossai is set to experience his first postseason as a key defensive player for Cincinnati. The Bengals made the Super Bowl last season and have all the tools to make it again.

Devin Duvernay headlines the group of injured Longhorns that may not be able to take the field.

Quandre Diggs, Jordan Hicks, Charles Omenihu and Justin Tucker figure to be the safest bets to perform at the highest level. Here’s a look at a few of the Longhorns that will play this weekend.

WATCH: Former Texas pass rusher Joseph Ossai scores first NFL touchdown

Joseph Ossai achieves another NFL career milestone.

Pass rushers don’t often score touchdowns. Joseph Ossai earned a rare score of his own on Sunday. The former Texas Longhorns standout recorded the first touchdown of his NFL career.

Ossai has seen plenty of expectation and hype since joining the Cincinnati Bengals. An injury derailed his rookie season from the breakout many believed could ensue. This season, the former Longhorn is making the most of his opportunities.

Texas hopes it has a comparable talent on its roster in Barryn Sorrell. Unheralded and underrated, Sorrell is cut from the same cloth as Ossai. The Bengals pass rusher is known for relentless effort. Sunday’s fumble recovery only strengthens that reputation.

Ossai is just one of the Longhorns that will play meaningful football after this week. The Bengals will have a rematch with the Ravens on the same field they won on this week. The skilled athlete is representing his University well at the next level.

Colt McCoy sparks the Arizona Cardinals to a 27-17 win over the Rams

Colt McCoy shined for the Cardinals on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals took down the defending super bowl champion Los Angeles Rams on Sunday behind an excellent performance from backup quarterback Colt McCoy.

In place of the injured Kyler Murray, McCoy shined for the Cardinals’ offense. He finished with an efficient stat line, completing 26 of 37 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown without a turnover.

McCoy’s great start helped the struggling Cardinals get back on track over a division rival and stay in the playoff hunt. The 13-year NFL veteran was ready for his name to be called for the first time this season.

“As a backup, you just never know when your opportunity is going to strike. Quite honestly, I want K-1 to be healthy. He’s a phenomenal player. But in this situation, with linemen out, our backs against the wall, in a division game on the road, I dug deep and was proud to go out there and play as hard as I can.”

Former Texas kicker Cameron Dicker lifts the Chargers over Atlanta

Dicker the kicker plays hero yet again.

Former Texas kicker Cameron Dicker is making the most out of every opportunity this season.

After getting signed by the Los Angles Chargers earlier this week, Dicker nailed a game-winning field goal to lift LA over Atlanta on Sunday. His 37-yard field goal capped off the Chargers’ 20-17 victory.

The kick marks Dicker’s second game-winner in as many starts as he walked off the game for the Eagles back in Week 5.

Dicker the kicker is proving himself to everyone in the NFL. Teams need to give him a full-time starting shot sooner rather than later.

Texas fans are well aware of Dicker’s clutch-kicking ability. He hit multiple game-winners as a Longhorn, most notably his 40-yard boot in the 2018 Red River Showdown. Now the legend of Cameron Dicker is growing at the NFL level.

Chargers sign former Texas kicker Cameron Dicker

Cameron Dicker is set to handle kicking duties for the Los Angles Chargers in Week 9.

Former Texas Longhorn Cameron Dicker is set to handle place-kicking duties for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9.

The Chargers announced the signing of Dicker off the practice squad on Thursday. Dicker will kick in place of the injured Taylor Bertolet.

Dicker has bounced around a few NFL teams during his rookies season but has taken advantage of his limited opportunities. He went 2-for-2 including a game-winning field goal for the Eagles in Week 5 of the season. An effort strong enough to win Dicker NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

In his four years at Texas, Dicker connected on 60-of-79 field goals and 206-of-210 extra point tries. He even served as an exceptional punter, averaging 48 yards per punt.

He gets another crack to prove himself as the Chargers take on the Falcons this weekend.

WATCH: Sam Ehlinger and the Colts speak on Commanders matchup

Ehlinger is set to make his first career NFL start this against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

The Indianapolis Colts made headlines this week as they announced a starting quarterback change moving forward. Veteran signal caller Matt Ryan is moving to the bench in favor of Sam Ehlinger.

Ehlinger is set to make his first career NFL start this Sunday against the Washington Commanders. He takes over an offense that has seen its share of struggles over the season but does not lack talent. Running back Johnathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman are two star players on the offense.

Colts’ head coach Frank Reich hopes Ehlinger can spark a new gear into his offense entering the second half of the season. Indianapolis sits just a game outside of first place in the AFC South.

The former Longhorn has a fantastic preseason campaign and is looking to be the missing piece to the Colts’ playoff push.

Ehlinger spoke on his excitement for this opportunity and how his preparation has him ready for the moment. His teammates and coaches are looking forward to seeing what Ehlinger can bring to the table.

Former Texas QB Sam Ehlinger discusses his first NFL start

Sam Ehlinger is making his first NFL start on Sunday.

Sam Ehlinger is making his first NFL start on Sunday. The former standout quarterback for the Texas Longhorns will look to provide a spark for the Indianapolis Colts this week.

Ehlinger has quickly moved up the depth chart with a strong preseason showing and inconsistency elsewhere in the quarterback room. Matt Ryan was once one of the NFL’s best passers, but it appears those days are behind him.

The former NFL MVP has contributed in some ways to the Colts’ offensive struggles this season. In spite of its offensive woes, Indianapolis is 3-3-1 and one game behind the division-leading Tennessee Titans.

The Colts will spend the remaining games of the season determining what they have in Ehlinger. Here’s what Sam and his team had to say ahead of his first professional start.
