Final Raiders 2024 NFL mock draft roundup

One last time we round up Raiders picks across the mock draft landscape

The draft is just a day away. Which means it’s time to round up all the mock drafts one final time to see what the consensus thinks about who the Raiders will pick.

For this, I went back through more than a month of mock drafts for over 100 mock drafts. Most of the selections here are at 13. But several have the Raiders trading up before making their pick and at least one has them trading down before making their pick.

Either way, here are those selections:

The latest 2024 NFL mock draft from NFL.com has the Patriots taking J.J. McCarthy and Drake Maye dropping

Could this really happen?

Given all the speculation about where Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is going, this is one spot that might surprise some people.

In our latest 2024 NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he’s got the New England Patriots trading down with the Minnesota Vikings, who take QB Drake Maye. McCarthy ends up at No. 5 with the Denver Broncos in that situation.

But in the latest mock from NFL.com’s Charles Davis, he’s got the Pats sticking at No. 3 and taking McCarthy, which means Maye drops out of the top 10 and gets to the Vikings at No. 11. Here’s what Davis had to say about it:

SURPRISE! I was convinced for a while that New England would be the future home of Drake Maye, but now I’m questioning that line of thinking. In this projection, after the Pats entertain a bunch of trade offers, they ultimately choose to “run history back” in a sense, selecting another Michigan man to lead them … albeit 196 draft slots higher than where they took Tom Brady nearly a quarter-century ago.

Fascinating! Check out our latest 2024 NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, along with his big board with the best fits for prospects.

The latest 2024 NFL mock draft from ESPN has the Vikings trading up with the Falcons for J.J. McCarthy

Will JJ McCarthy really last this long?

It feels like with most NFL mock drafts that it’s a question of when the Minnesota Vikings will trade up for Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy.

It makes sense for the Vikings, who probably don’t want to jump into the top-3 of the 2024 NFL draft because it’s mega-expensive. But after three QBs (say, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels) are taken? It could work.

In the latest 2024 NFL mock draft from our Christian D’Andrea, he’s actually got the Vikings going up to No. to get Maye from North Carolina. But in the latest 2024 mock from ESPN’s Jordan Reid, he’s got the Vikings moving up No. 8 to get McCarthy:

McCarthy is a great fit with the Vikings considering his skill set — he’s accurate and mobile — and the infrastructure in place in Minnesota. The Vikings have Sam Darnold, so there’s no pressure to start a rookie QB in Week 1. McCarthy’s 88.2 QBR was third in the nation last season, and he has a ton of upside — he just might need some time to adjust to the pro game.

Make sure to check out our latest two-round mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, and also his “all-trades” NFL mock draft with every pick getting traded.

The latest 2024 NFL mock draft from NFL.com and Peter Schrager has the Giants trading up for J.J. McCarthy

Would the Giants really do this?

One of the more intriguing questions to ask about the New York Giants before the 2024 NFL Draft: do they grab a wideout in the first round? Or do they move up, perhaps, and grab a quarterback?

Some mocks have them taking a QB like Michael Penix Jr. in the second round. Others have them taking Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he’s got them taking WR Rome Odunze in the first round and his Washington teammate Penix in the second.

In the first mock from NFL.com’s Peter Schrager, he’s got the Giants trading up to No. 4 with the Cardinals to get McCarthy. Here’s what he had to say about this projection:

New York moves up two spots — tossing Arizona this year’s third-round pick (No. 70 overall) and next year’s second-rounder — to land McCarthy. This is merely a mock draft, but I could see this deal coming to fruition. Joe Schoen didn’t draft Daniel Jones, J.J. checks a lot of boxes, and Big Blue can get out of Jones’ contract after this upcoming season. I assume that this projection could make headlines in New York. That’s fine. I know the Giants have been going through all of the quarterback prospects diligently, as they should be.

Intriguing! Make sure to check out our latest two-round mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, along with the current NFL draft order for Round 1.

Seahawks hosting South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler for top-30 visit

According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler was in Seattle yesterday meeting with the Seahawks.

The Seahawks are doing their diligence on a deep 2024 draft class at the game’s most important position. Already Seattle has reportedly met with a few top quarterback prospects, including Michigan’s JJ McCarthy and Oregon’s Bo Nix – as well as projected UDFA John Rhys Plumlee of UCF.

Now we have word of another quarterback visiting. According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler was in Seattle yesterday meeting with the Seahawks.

Consider us thrilled with this visit, as Rattler is our favorite quarterback prospect in this class outside of the top-three (Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Michael Penix Jr.).

Rattler (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) played his first three college seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina. All together he’s totaled 900 completions, over 10,000 passing yards, a 68.5% completion rate and 77 touchdowns to go with 32 interceptions.

Rattler comes with the aggressive instincts that general mananger John Schneider clearly adores in his quarterbacks. Here’s the highlight reel.

Rattler is expected to come off the board in either the third or fourth round of the draft. If Seattle ends up drafting him he would likely compete with Sam Howell for the starting job whenever Geno Smith leaves.

Oregon QB prospect Bo Nix visited with the Seahawks this weekend

The Seahawks hosted Oregon quarterback Bo Nix for an official visit this weekend, according to a report by Aaron Wilson.

The Seahawks hosted Oregon quarterback Bo Nix for an official visit this weekend, according to a report by Aaron Wilson.

Nix (6-foot-3, 214 pounds) was one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football over the last couple of seasons. In 2023 he totaled over 4,500 passing yards, 45 touchdowns, just three interceptions and a 188.3 rating. Here’s the highlight reel.

And here’s a look at every throw from Oregon’s Pro Day.

Seattle fans who don’t like the idea of drafting Nix should probably rest easy. He is expected to come off the board before they are on the clock at No. 16 overall. The Vikings, Raiders and Broncos have all been linked to Nix and all pick before the Seahawks.

The team has also done their diligence on a couple other first-round quarterback prospects, including JJ McCarthy from Michigan and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. While they haven’t held any official visits, they are well-acquainted with Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.

Other high-end Ducks to watch out for during the draft include center Jackson Powers-Johnson, wide receiver Troy Franklin, running back Bucky Irving, cornerback Khyree Jackson and defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus.

Vikings trade up in latest ESPN mock draft

Field Yates of ESPN dropped his latest mock draft on Wednesday and once again the Vikings traded up for a quarterback.

Field Yates of ESPN dropped his latest mock draft on Wednesday and once again the Vikings traded up for a quarterback. Compared to most scenarios, Yates had them trading up with the Los Angeles Chargers. Jim Harbaugh has talked about having a complete football team and trading back is the easiest way to accomplish that.

The package of course was for the Chargers fifth overall pick but the Vikings had to surrender their 11th and 23rd overall picks as well as their 2025 first round pick. The selection would end up being J.J. McCarthy, who has become a popular pick for them. McCarthy would be going into a loaded offense with a great coaching staff and skill players to get the most out of him.

However, is that package an ideal scenario for the Vikings? I would argue no.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has shown he can be a mixed bag with his draft picks. Yes, the 2022 draft class was one he had just two months to investigate as the Vikings general manager but that shouldn’t be an excuse. The 2023 class has a hit at the top seemingly with Jordan Addison but the rest of the class still has a ways to go.

Is trading away the one pick you have been hitting on a good move? If McCarthy is a hit then that is the ultimate medkit to fix any negative news. That is a major gamble though for a general manager that may not be able to afford losing those crucial picks.

The latest 2024 NFL mock draft from Touchdown Wire has Bo Nix and J.J. McCarthy going outside the top 10

Could these two QBs drop outside the top 10?

We all know there’s all sorts of information out there about where Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is going in the 2024 NFL draft — it could be in the top-3, it could be outside the top-5 if a team like the Vikings move up, and so on.

But what about Oregon QB Bo Nix? There are mocks with him in the first round … and then he’s been left out of Day 1. In our latest mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he projects Nix as a Day 2 pick (to the Raiders) and McCarthy going No. 5 to the Broncos who would trade up in that scenario to grab a QB of the future.

In the latest mock from Touchdown Wire, Doug Farrar has McCarthy going to the Vikings at No. 11 without having to trade up and then the Broncos getting nix at No. 12. Interesting!

Seahawks go QB at No. 16 overall in this NFL.com mock draft

In a new 2024 mock draft at NFL.com, Charles Davis has Penix going to Seattle at No. 16 overall.

The Sam Howell trade put a real damper on all the Michael Penix Jr. to Seahawks speculation. However, it would be foolish to completely rule out the possibility that he’s their No. 1 target in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft. While the team does have major needs along the interior offensive line, the overall state of their roster is strong. The very fact that guard is their No. 1 and No. 2 positional needs suggests that this team can be far more competitive than it has been the last couple years with the right coaching.

Regardless of how you feel about any QB in this class – Penix included – the fact is that drafting a potential long-term starter at that spot is the team’s best possible use of capital, even if they have to pick a fan out of the stands to play a few snaps at left guard.

Some folks are not abandoning the Penix/Seattle connection, either. In a new 024 mock draft at NFL.com, Charles Davis has Penix going to Seattle at No. 16 overall.

“Surprise! GM John Schneider should have no trouble doing his homework on the big-armed QB who starred just down the road in Seattle for the past two seasons. Penix reunites with former UW OC Ryan Grubb, who now holds the same title with the Seahawks.”

If the Seahawks are indeed sold on Penix’s potential to be their next franchise QB, they will probably need to use that 16 pick on him. Before Penix lit up the Scouting Combine and put on another show at Washington’s Pro Day, there was a chance he might slip to early in the second round or late in the first. Now that seems highly unlikely – especially given the enormous gulf between Penix (generally ranked QB6 in this class) and the next-best quarterback prospect in the draft.

The x-factor here is how dumb the QB-needy teams are that are scheduled to pick ahead of the Seahawks. We can safely assume that Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels will all be taken in the top five picks. From there it gets interesting. Michigan’s JJ McCarthy and Oregon’s Bo Nix are almost universally mocked ahead of Penix, despite clearly being inferior quarterbacks both statistically and on tape.

If the Raiders or the Vikings see that and intend take Penix over McCarthy/Nix then Seattle’s chances of landing him are nil as they would have it trade up from 16 to do it. The Seahawks simply don’t have the capital to pull that deal off – nor should they even if they did. If you’re on that train, hope that Minnesota and Vegas don’t know what they’re doing.
