Ranking top five Philadelphia 76ers draft picks of the 2000s decade

We are now moving on to the 2000s decade to rank the Philadelphia 76ers draft picks.

The 2000s decade for the Philadelphia 76ers will be looked back at as the team’s never-ending quest to find a suitable number 2 scorer next to Allen Iverson in the early part and then finally accepting a rebuild in the back part.

However, the team did find some surprising success in the latter part of the decade thanks to some draft picks emerging. For example, the Sixers made playoff appearances in both 2008 and 2009 led by some of the picks the team made in the decade and we are going to look back and rank the top five picks the team made from 2000-09.

The list will be based on individual success along with the impact that player made on the Sixers during his time. With that being said, let’s get into it!

A look back: Steve Kerr’s historic 3-point shooting seasons with Bulls

Steve Kerr had two historic 3-point shooting seasons while playing with the Chicago Bulls

When Steve Kerr played with the Chicago Bulls, he was one of the league’s most respected 3-point shooters.

Kerr, who played for the Chicago Bulls from 1993-1998, is one of several interviewees in “The Last Dance,” the highly anticipated 10-part documentary that premiered Sunday night on ESPN.

Winning three titles with Chicago, Kerr had two of the best 3-point shooting seasons ever with the Bulls.

According to Basketball Reference, he shot a career-high 52.4% from deep during the 1994-95 season; that’s the second-best 3-point percentage (52.4) for a single season in league history, right behind Kyle Korver’s 2009-10 season. Kerr’s quality shooting in the 1995-96 campaign also helped him claim the fifth-best 3-point percentage (51.5%) for a single season.

Kerr and Korver are the only players in league history to have multiple seasons in which they shot 49% or better from three; Kerr is the only player to have multiple seasons shooting 50% or better from deep. The 1989-90 season, Kerr’s second in the league, he shot 50.7% from the 3-point line with the Cleveland Cavaliers. That is the eighth-highest 3-point percentage for a single season.

What’s interesting with Kerr is that he never shot threes at a high volume. His career-high in 3-point attempts is 2.9 a game, which he did twice with the Bulls.

The league was drastically different in the 1990s, with teams not opting to shoot as many threes compared to today’s game.

During the 1994-95 season, when Kerr posted his career-high in 3-point percentage, the Houston Rockets led the league in 3-point attempts per game (21.4.), per Basketball Reference. Ironically enough, the Rockets also lead the league this season in the category, but they’re shooting 44.3 3-pointers a game.

As a renowned shooter, it’s no surprise Kerr has helped evolve the game while coaching the Golden State Warriors. The team’s offense is a mixture of motion and parts of the Triangle Offense, along with a bevy of off-ball actions.

With two all-time level shooters in Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, the Warriors remain one of the league’s most feared teams despite an injury-riddled 2019-20 season.

Ranking the top 5 small forwards in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers

Sixers Wire has now made a list of the top five small forwards in the franchise’s history.

The small forward position is always one of prestige. A lot of great athletes have played the position from Larry Bird to LeBron James to Julius “Dr. J” Erving. The position is marked by greatness and guys who can do a lot of different things and for the Philadelphia 76ers, that goes for them as well.

During this time of quarantine, there is not much else to do rather than to debate about basketball of the past since there is no basketball going on right now. So, we have decided to come up with the top five players at each position in the history of the Sixers.

We have already made our lists for the top five point guards in the franchise’s history as well as the list for the shooting guards. Naturally, we move on to the small forwards as we go down the list of positions.

Just as we did with the first two positions, the list will be in reverse order. Now, it’s time to get into it.

Prediction

Bucks 121, 76ers 110

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks (-400) host the 76ers for the second time in the past 16 days, and Milwaukee hopes it goes as well as the previous meeting. The Bucks posted a 112-101 victory in Cream City Feb. 6, covering the nine-point number with the Under (229) connecting rather easily. While the Bucks should ease past the Sixers yet again, risking four times the return is just not good gambling. AVOID and look to the line instead.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Bucks to win returns a profit of just $2.50.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-8.5, -110) are rolling right along with six covers in their past seven games, including 6-0 ATS in the previous six as a favorite. In addition, there is something about playing on Saturday which scratches that itch for the Bucks, as they’re 10-1 ATS in the past 11 appearances on Saturdays.

On the flip side, the 76ers (+8.5, -110) are 6-19-2 ATS in the past 27 road games while going just 4-12-1 ATS in the past 17 against winning teams. Philly is also 1-4 ATS in the past five trips to Milwaukee.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 226.5 (-106) is the best play in this one. The Over is 6-2 in the past eight meetings in Wisconsin while going 6-1 in the past seven overall in this series. The Over is also 6-1 in the past seven for Philly against winning teams. Milwaukee has hit the Over in four of the past five at home, too, while going 6-1 in the past seven against winning teams.

The Bucks rank No. 1 in the NBA with 109.7 points per game, and they’re second in the Association with a 48.1 field-goal percentage, a good reason why they hit so many Over results.

For the fourth year in a row, the NBA has disclosed the vote for All-Star starters of fans, media and players. Since we now have the data of where each player ranked in the final results, we decided to look for patterns.

For example, which players do better with fans than with their NBA peers?

We found out 16 guys have ranked higher in the fan vote than in the players vote every year since 2017. Only two on the list have made the All-Star Game and they are both members of the world-beating Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Kind of makes you go ‘Hmmm’, right?

The largest disparity between player and fan vote happens with Jordan Clarkson, though, which was kind of unexpected.

For more details, you can check the gallery above. All rankings based on position and conference.

Korver on LeBron James: ‘He’ll be dunking a basketball when he’s 70’

The former teammate of the Los Angeles Lakers star believes that LeBron’s athleticism will be with him for as long as he lives.

Lost in the shuffle of Thursday night’s showdown of MVPs and superstars between the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks was a reunion of Lakers star LeBron James and Milwaukee Bucks reserve guard Kyle Korver.

James and Korver were teammates for nearly two seasons on the Cavaliers, with both of their postseasons together ending in trips to the NBA Finals. He was also a teammate of LeBron’s during the one season he played in all 82 games. With the topic of whether he should rest more games being that he will turn 35 in 10 days, Korver believes that the rules are just different for James as they have been for 42-year old Vince Carter, who is still playing in the league. Korver sees LeBron being able to dunk well into his retirement, whenever that is, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

“In his mind, playing every game, playing those minutes, he wanted to give Cleveland everything he had just in case (he left as a free agent),” Korver said. “Last year, I just think there was the frustration of not winning, and I think that wore on him more than anything. He is unbelievable, his ability to recover. I don’t know when he chooses to stop playing, how old he is, I feel like he still has a bunch of good years at this level. At some point you get older and your body doesn’t recover quite as fast as you want it to. But he’s still going to be dunking a basketball when he’s 70. He’s like Vince Carter in that way. They are going to be able to jump and dunk as long as they’re alive.”

Despite last night’s loss and the Lakers losing consecutive games for the first time this season, it’s indisputable that James is having the best season we’ve ever seen from someone in their 17th NBA season.
