Prediction

Clippers 109, Kings 105

Moneyline (ML)

The Clippers (-303) should win this one – even though they’re only 9-8 on the road – as the Kings haven’t won since Dec. 15, but the price is a little too expensive (or chalky). Every $3.03 wagered will profit only $1 if the Clippers win. At +240, the Kings offer a nice 2.4-to-1 payoff, which is tempting, but they’re just 6-8 at home.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Back the KINGS (+6.5, +100). They might be in a funk, but I expect them to cover and not lose by 7 or more points. They’re 4-3 ATS as a home underdog, while the Clippers are just 6-5 ATS as a road favorite. The afternoon New Year’s Eve home crowd should also give the home team a little boost.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Kings will profit $10 if they win outright or stay within 7 points in a loss.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 222.5 (-106) is the STRONGEST PLAY as both teams have favored the Under this season – the Clippers are 16-18 O/U, while the Kings are 14-19 O/U overall and 5-9 O/U at home. Plus, I like these numbers: The Kings average 105.5 points per game to the Clippers’ 115.3. On defense, the Kings allow 108.4 PPG, to the Clippers’ 108.8.

Prediction

Nuggets 109, Kings 96

Moneyline (ML)

The Nuggets (-500) are heavy favorites, but there is no way to justify laying such a high number for such a small return. Look to the spread instead.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Nuggets to win outright returns a profit of $2.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The NUGGETS (-10.5, +105) and Kings (+10.5, -128) have split a pair of games played in California’s capital city. The Nuggs won 101-94 to cover a five-point number back on Oct. 28, and they fell 100-97 in overtime as four-point favorites back on Nov. 30.

The Nuggets will need to win by at least 11 points for a $10 bet to return a profit of $10.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 206.5 (-106) is the play, hitting in each of the first two meetings this season in Sacto. The Kings entered play this weekend ranked 13th in the NBA in scoring defense, while the Nuggets sport the NBA’s best scoring defense, as well as the best 3-point defensive percentage.

Prediction

Rockets 128, Kings 113

Moneyline (ML)

The moneyline is just too expensive to take the Rockets (-239), and the Kings (+190) don’t have a prayer.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rockets to win outright returns a profit of $4.18. Or in other words, every $2.39 wagered on the Rockets ML would profit $1 if Houston wins.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The ROCKETS (-5.5, -115) only need to win by three buckets, and that makes them super attractive. The Rockets are 4-1 ATS in the past five on the road, while going 4-0 ATS in the past four trips against teams with a winning home mark. The Kings (+5.5, -106) are also just 1-4 ATS in the past five vs. the Rockets.

Over/Under (O/U)

Play the OVER 228.5 (-129), which has hit in five of the past seven on the road for the Rockets. The Over is also 4-1 in Sacto’s past five as a home ‘dog, and 5-0 in their past five at home following a road trip of seven or more days.

Los Angeles Kings at Boston Bruins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Kings at Boston Bruins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Los Angeles Kings (14-18-3) and Boston Bruins (21-7-6) lock horns at TD Garden at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Kings-Bruins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Kings at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Jonathan Quick vs. Tuukka Rask

Quick kicked off the road trip with a win in Anaheim on Thursday, but he took it on the chin in Pittsburgh in a 5-4 shootout loss Saturday, making 23 saves on 27 shots. He enters 9-12-2 overall with a 3.06 goals against average and .891 save percentage.

Rask comes into Tuesday 13-4-3 with a 2.24 GAA and .926 SV% and two shutouts. The Finnish native enters on a personal three-game losing skid, going 0-2-1, including a home loss against the Blackhawks in overtime Dec. 5.

Prediction

Bruins 5, Kings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Bruins (-250) are going to win this game, but risking two-and-a-half times the return is just not good business. Even if you win five out of every seven of those types of bets you’re still just breaking even despite a 71.4 winning percentage. Not good.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Bruins to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $4 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

BRUINS (-1.5, +115) on the puck line is the way to go, as they’re at home and Rask is due for a good showing, too. The Kings are the perfect elixir to cure the ills of the B’s, as L.A. is 1-5 in the past six in this series, and 2-5 in the past seven trips to Beantown.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 4.5 (-223) is an intriguing line on BetMGM. Quick has been routinely giving up big goal totals, and the B’s could take care of the total on their own if RW David Pastrnak and company are on their game. It’s worth a roll of the dice.

Kings at Warriors: Key injuries

Kings: PG De’Aaron Fox (ankle) is expected to miss at least another week or two.

Warriors: PF Eric Paschall (hip) is questionable. PG Stephen Curry (hand) is out until at least February, while SG Klay Thompson (knee) won’t return this season.

Kings at Warriors: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Kings 109, Warriors 103

Moneyline (ML)

The KINGS (-154) are worth a small-unit bet if you’re a cautious player who just likes to pick winners straight up. For my liking, it’s above -160 or -170, which is about the lowest I like to go on a moneyline play.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The KINGS (-3.5, -106) are also worth a small-unit wager laying the points, although I’d feel a lot more comfortable if, for one, the line were 2.5 instead of three, and I didn’t just watch the Kings totally implode against the New York Knicks last time out.

The good news is the Knicks also beat the Warriors (+3.5, -115), and Golden State is a mishmash unit with the worst record in the NBA. How the mighty have fallen.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS.  There aren’t a lot of great parts on the Warriors, but they still have the likes of Marquese Chriss posting double-doubles lately, while Paschall has been good when he is on the floor. The Kings have some bright young scorers, too. If there is a lean, it’s slightly to the over (210.5, -115), but I’ll pass for now.

Los Angeles Kings at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Los Angeles Kings at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Los Angeles Kings (13-18-2) and Pittsburgh Penguins (18-10-4) tussle in the Steel City at 7 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Kings-Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Kings at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Jonathan Quick vs. Tristan Jarry

Quick picked up a victory over the Anaheim Ducks Thursday, and he has back-to-back wins with just one goal allowed in each outing. He didn’t allow a goal until the final minute in his game Tuesday against the New York Rangers, a power-play tally with an extra attacker. The Under is 6-0 in Quick’s past six appearances.

Jarry picked up a shutout last time out against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he has three shutouts across his past four starts. Overall, he is 8-5-0 with a 1.76 goals against average and .941 save percentage. It’s possible Matt Murray makes an appearance in this one, but it’s hard to imagine the Pens will go away from Jarry while he’s running hot.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 4, Kings 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Penguins (-228) are too expensive on the moneyline, and the Kings (+185) aren’t a good play on the road against a difficult opponent. PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Penguins to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $4.40 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

PENGUINS (-1.5, +125) is a great play on home ice. In four of their past five victories at home, the Pens have won by 2 or more goals, so roll the dice on a puck-line win and avoid the high risk of the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+115) is a nice play at plus-money. The Under is 7-2-1 in the past 10 on the road for the Kings, and 6-2-1 in their past nine as a dog away from home. The Under has connected in four of the past five for Pittsburgh, too, while going 23-8-1 in the past 32 games at home for the Pens.

Watch: Johnny Hekker rides Zamboni as Rams attend Kings game

The Rams were in attendance for the Kings’ 3-1 win over the Rangers on Tuesday night.

The Los Angeles Rams were busy on their day off Tuesday, doing a number of different things in the local area. Aqib Talib and John Johnson took the Watts Rams on a shopping spree, while Michael Brockers, Sebastian Joseph-Day and Tanzel Smart did the same for the Boys & Girls Club, as well.

Several other Rams players supported the Los Angeles Kings against the Rangers at the Staples Center, being brought out before the puck drop. Tyler Higbee, Taylor Rapp and Johnny Hekker were among the players in attendance.

Hekker got the royal treatment from the Kings, getting to ride the Zamboni during an intermission.

The Kings beat the Rangers 3-1, moving their record to 12-18-2 on the year. Not quite the success the Lakers are having in the same building, but the season is still young.

New York Islanders at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Islanders-Kings tonight with odds, predictions, and best bets.

The New York Islanders (16-4-2) finish the West Coast trip with a visit to the Los Angeles Kings (9-13-2) at Staples Center Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Islanders-Kings odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Islanders at Kings: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov vs. Jonathan Quick

Varlamov is the expected starter against the Kings. The 31-year old goaltender is 7-2-2 on the season and compiled a 2.63 goals against average and .913 save percentage. Varlamov looked more like himself against San Jose in his last start — allowing two goals on 26 shots in an overtime loss.

Quick has played 16 games with the Kings. He has a 6-9-1 record with a .881 SV% and 3.47 GAA. He stopped 21 of 25 shots against San Jose in his last start in an overtime loss.

Prediction

Islanders 3, Kings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-139) got a much-needed rest after losing to the Anaheim Ducks Monday. New York faces a team somewhat stingy defensively, as Los Angeles is second in the league in shots allowed at just under 29 a game. However, Los Angeles yields over three goals a game with an opportunistic Islanders offense that has more firepower. Our pick is the ISLANDERS.

A $10 bet with New York results in a $7.19 profit with an outright win for the Islanders.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

With the Islanders and Kings, we are hitting the AVOID here. New York tends to play close to the vest and Los Angeles is stingy as far as scoring chances at home. This should be a close game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-129) is a decent play given that Los Angeles has scored less than three goals a game after its hot start and New York scores less than three goals a game on the road.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a $7.75 profit with a total of five or  less goals scored.
