Kamron Mikell makes On3’s final top 10 class of 2024 athlete rankings

On3 gave some major respect to Colorado signee Kamron Mikell

College football recruiting outlet On3 announced its final top 10 class of 2024 athlete rankings and Colorado signee Kamron Mikell was slotted at No. 3. Ahead of Mikell was Penn State signee Liam Andrews (No. 2) and Texas A&M commit Terry Bussey (No. 1).

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Mikell committed to the Buffs on Nov. 23 before signing the following month. A four-star prospect from Georgia, Mikell’s 93.92 prospect rating from On3 is behind only Jordan Seaton (98.31) in Colorado’s six-deep 2024 signing class.

It’s not clear yet how CU head coach Deion Sanders will utilize Mikell, but his skill set at both wide receiver and cornerback could allow him to play both ways, similar to current Buffs star Travis Hunter. Mikell also saw considerable playing time at running back and quarterback during his Statesboro High School career.

On3 tabbed Mikell with a NIL (name, image and likeness) valuation of $116,000, which ranks No. 109 among current high school football players.

Colorado loses commitments of 2 more high school recruits

Colorado and Deion Sanders lost the recruitments of two more commits on Monday: 2024 QB Danny O’Neil and 2025 RB Jamarice Wilder.

After four-star athlete Kam Mikell committed to Colorado on Thursday and the Buffaloes fought Utah tough to close out the season, it seemed like the program was picking up momentum going into winter recruiting.

Now? The loss to Utah was immediately followed by three decommitments from high school recruits, two of which came on Monday. The program must adjust and find new prospects who can play the needed roles.

On Monday morning, three-star 2024 quarterback Danny O’Neil decommitted from the Buffaloes, according to On3. Not long after, three-star 2025 running back Jamarice Wilder announced through On3 that he, too, has re-opened his recruitment.

These decommitments follow that of 4-star 2025 quarterback Antwann Hill, who re-opened his recruitment but said Colorado remains “a top priority.”

O’Neil, listed at 6-foot and 185, helped Cathedral (Indianapolis, Ind.) reach the regional championships in his final high school season. As a senior, he completed 61.6% of his passes for 2,086 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing 118 times for 722 yards.

He is ranked on the 247Sports Composite as the No. 40 quarterback in the class of 2024. If junior QB Shedeur Sanders, son of head coach Deion Sanders, decides to enter the NFL draft, 2023 QB commit Ryan Staub may have the upper hand in the quarterback competition for next season.

Wilder, listed as 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, is ranked as the No. 51 running back on the 247Sports Composite. At Venice (Fla.), he has rushed for 1,040 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior, with the team set to play in the semifinals this weekend.

Neither of those recruits was ranked particularly highly when compared to the levels of some highly touted recruits in the last couple of years, but it still stings Colorado to lose them. The Buffaloes have just nine hard commits in the class of 2024. While that is headlined by four-star players Mikell and Aaron Butler, Houston is the only Big 12 team with fewer, according to 247Sports. Three schools in the conference have 20 or more as of Nov. 27.

Walker was the only remaining player in the class of 2025 to be committed to Colorado. There is plenty of time to make up ground, but the solid start for the Buffaloes’ recruiting class has receded.

Colorado finished 4-8 with one conference win in its final season in the Pac-12. The program will join the Big 12 next season.

Four-star athlete Kam Mikell commits to Colorado

Colorado picked up a huge commitment from four-star athlete Kam Mikell, who plans to play on both sides of the ball

On Thanksgiving Day, head coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes football program added a talented commit to the fold. Four-star 2024 athlete Kam Mikell announced his decision to head to Boulder and play for Coach Prime, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Mikell chose the Buffs over Tennessee, Georgia and Texas A&M, making this a huge get for CU. He’s currently a senior at Statesboro High School in Georgia.

The No. 6 ranked athlete in his class (247Sports Composite) told On3 that a big reason why he committed to Colorado was because of Coach Prime.

“The first time I was there it was beautiful,” Mikell told On3. “Waking up to the snow and I mean a chance for Deion Sanders to be your coach. Why not him? The marketing he has as a coach is crazy.”

Fawcett mentioned that Mikell plans to play both sides of the ball, just like current Colorado star Travis Hunter.

Tennessee football’s remaining 2024 recruiting targets

A look at the remaining top 2024 football recruiting targets for Tennessee.

Third-year head coach Josh Heupel is on pace for a historic recruiting cycle with Tennessee’s 2024 class.

Tennessee has 20 commitments for its 2024 recruiting class: Cornerback Kaleb Beasley, defensive lineman Carson Gentle, athlete Marcus Goree Jr., athlete Jonathan Echols, quarterback Jake Merklinger, offensive tackle Jesse Perry, offensive tackle Gage Ginther, safety Edrees Farooq, defensive lineman Jeremias Heard, edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom, running back Peyton Lewis, athlete Boo Carter, linebacker Jordan Burns, offensive lineman Max Anderson, wide receiver Braylon Staley, offensive lineman William Satterwhite, wide receiver Mike Matthews, linebacker Edwin Spillman, offensive lineman Bennett Warren and edge rusher Jordan Ross.

The Vols’ 2024 class ranks No. 6 nationally and No. 4 in the Southeastern Conference.

Florida likely to host 4-star wide receiver target

Kam Mikell is listed as a four-star cornerback on most recruiting sites, but the Gators like him as a wide receiver.

The Florida Gators already have 22 players under commitment in its 2024 recruiting class, but Billy Napier and Co. are still looking to add a few pieces before the end of the cycle in December.

[autotag]Kam Mikell[/autotag] — a four-star cornerback that Florida likes at receiver, according to On3’s Keith Niebuhr — is one of those pieces, and the 6-foot, 180-pound athlete is showing interest in the Gators as well. Mikell told Niebuhr that he’s looking to schedule a visit with UF.

Given Napier’s recruiting history at Florida, the window for Mikell to visit is relatively small. The Gators typically shy away from in-season official visits, but waiting until December doesn’t sound promising. Mikell will be at several schools over the fall, including Colorado, Kentucky and Tennessee, so it could be easy for him to fall through the cracks.

Mikell is a four-star cornerback on On3’s industry ranking, which uses a weighted composite grade to rank all the recruits. He checks in at No. 129 overall in the class of 2024 and No. 17 among cornerbacks, but he’ll have to be reevaluated as a receiver if that’s where Florida is planning to play him.
