Early signing period: Jeremias Heard signs with Tennessee football

The 2023 early signing period is taking place Wednesday-Friday for Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting signing class.

The 2023 early signing period is Josh Heupel’s third as Tennessee’s head coach. He was hired as the Vols’ head coach in Jan. 2021.

Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class ranked No. 10 nationally (247Sports Composite). The Vols’ first recruiting class under Heupel in 2022 ranked No. 17 nationally (247Sports Composite).

Jeremias Heard signed with the Vols on Wednesday during the early signing period.

Tennessee has eight 2024 commitments ranked among top 300 prospects: Cornerback Kaleb Beasley, wide receiver Braylon Staley, tight end Jonathan Echols, quarterback Jake Merklinger, running back Peyton Lewis, offensive lineman Max Anderson, safety Marcus Goree and defensive lineman Jeremias Heard.

The Vols have 16 2024 commits, including four-star offensive lineman William Satterwhite. Satterwhite was the first commitment in July for the Vols.

No. 12 defensive lineman in Georgia commits to Tennessee

Three-star defensive lineman Jeremias Heard announced his commitment to Tennessee. Heard is the No. 12 defensive lineman in Georgia.

Three-star defensive lineman Jeremias Heard announced his commitment to Tennessee on Friday.

The 6-foot-9, 285-pound defensive lineman is from Model High School in Rome, Georgia.

Heard is the No. 986 overall prospect and No. 95 defensive lineman in the class of 2024. He ranks as the No. 100 player and No. 12 defensive lineman in the state of Georgia, according to the On3 Sports industry rankings.

As a junior in 2022, Heard finished the season with 29 total tackles, eight tackles for a loss, five sacks and two forced fumbles. He has only played football since last July, but has received interest recently from both Alabama and Georgia.

Heard is the tenth commitment for the Vols in the class of 2024 and the fourth in April. Gage Ginther, Jesse Perry and Edrees Farooq announced their commitments earlier this month.

Following Heard’s commitment, Tennessee’s 2024 class ranks ninth nationally and fifth in the Southeastern Conference.
