On Monday evening, 2024 four-star edge rusher Jayshawn Ross announced his commitment to Alabama via X; formerly known as Twitter.

Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class gained a star-studded edge rusher on Monday evening. 2024 four-star edge rusher Jayshawn Ross announced his commitment to Alabama via X; formerly known as Twitter.

Ross made a visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend and made his commitment official just a few days later.

The Missouri native chose the Crimson Tide over other programs like Kansas State and Nebraska.

Interestingly enough, Ross is the lone edge rusher in Alabama’s ’24 recruiting class. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds.

In 10 games as a senior, Ross recorded 23 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and eight sacks.

The two-sport athlete was recruited by the Alabama coaching staff to serve as an outside linebacker at the college level. He will play a role similar to that of Chris Braswell.

Alabama extends an offer to 2024 EDGE Jayshawn Ross

The Alabama coaching staff extended its most recent offer to 2024 edge rusher Jayshawn Ross.

In the past, Alabama has had a plethora of success along the front seven. The Crimson Tide has been able to successfully recruit and develop some of the top defensive players in the country. Alabama extended an offer to one of the top defensive recruits in the country in 2024 edge rusher Jayshawn Ross.

Ross is an uncommitted prospect and has taken four official visits up to this point. He took official visits to Oklahoma and Tennessee during the summer. Ross also officially visited Nebraska at the end of September. This weekend Ross will take an official visit to Kansas State.

Currently, there are no edge rushers committed to Alabama as a part of the 2025 recruiting class. Ross receiving an offer from Alabama shows that the coaching staff has an interest in the Missouri native. It will be interesting to see if Ross makes it to Tuscaloosa for an official visit this fall.

Husker recruit announces he has reopened commitment

A Nebraska recruit has announced he has reopened his recruitment.

A Nebraska recruit has announced he has reopened his recruitment. Jayshawn Ross is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound edge rusher out of Kansas City.

In late June, the four-star prospect named his top five schools: MichiganPenn StateTennesseeOklahoma and Nebraska.

Interestingly Ross had not committed to a school, but said on social media that he was reopening his recruitment.

“I would like to thank all the schools who have been recruiting me. I am both thankful and humbled by their recruitment. With that being said, my family and I would like to announce that I am reopening my recruitment. I’m looking forward to finding the best place to continue my academic and athletic career.”

John Williams of Sooners Wire writes that Ross’ speed on the edge makes him a consistent disruption on the defensive line.

On the defensive side of the ball, he displays a great motor and strong hand usage to get through offensive tackles. He has really good closing speed and finishes plays with ferocity.

Ross has not placed a timetable on when he will announce his commitment.

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 commitment tracker

Which players are committed to the Oklahoma Sooners 2024 recruiting class and what do they bring to the football field?

The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to follow a pair of top-10 recruiting classes in 2022 and 2023 with another in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Sooners’ 6-7 season didn’t affect the finish to the 2023 recruiting class, which finished No. 4 in the nation according to 247Sports.

Brent Venables and his staff are hoping to have a repeat of that success or better and have themselves well-positioned to be near the top of the rankings when it’s all said and done in 2024.

Much of the success of this class will be determined by how well the Oklahoma Sooners recruit the defensive line ahead of their move to the SEC in 2024. In a strong defensive line class, the Sooners are in a good spot with a number of highly-coveted prospects. They finally broke the ice on their defensive line recruiting with the addition of Wyatt Gilmore, the No. 2 player in the state of Minnesota and a four-star prospect.

All eyes turn to players like [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag], [autotag]Jayden Jackson[/autotag], [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], [autotag]Jayshawn Ross[/autotag], [autotag]Joseph Jonah-Ajonye[/autotag], and [autotag]Zina Umeozulu[/autotag].

They will not land all of their targets, but Venables, [autotag]Ted Roof[/autotag], [autotag]Todd Bates[/autotag] and [autotag]Miguel Chavis[/autotag] have made a strong impression on an impressive group of defensive line prospects.

Still just over five months out from the early signing period, here’s a look at who is committed to the Oklahoma Sooners as of July 1, 2023.

Michigan football makes top five for 2024 4-star athlete

Another Edge prospect considering #Michigan!

It’s just another day now when Michigan football becomes a finalist for a big-time recruit.

The Wolverines were named in the final five for 2024 four-star athlete, Jayshawn Ross. The Kansas City (Missouri) Liberty North prospect is listed as an athlete, but Ross is expected to play Edge at the college level. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Edge is a four-star according to the Composite. Ross is the 285th-ranked player in the class and the 21st-ranked Edge recruit in the 2024 cycle.

Ross listed Michigan in his final five along with Nebraska, Penn State, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

When you look at 247Sports, there are zero Crystal Ball predictions in for Ross. But according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ross is a heavy Oklahoma lean. The Sooners have an 89.9% chance to land the four-star Edge.

Ross has yet to take an official visit to Michigan. Getting him on campus could be a big development for the Wolverines.

Sooners favored to land 2024 4-Star DE Jayshawn Ross

The Oklahoma Sooners received a Rivals FutureCast for 2024 4-star defensive end Jayshawn Ross.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ pursuit of defensive line talent has placed its focus on the Kansas City area in the 2024 recruiting class.

It netted them Cayden Green out of Lee’s Summit, just outside of K.C., in the 2023 class and may help them earn a pledge from five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri.

Nwaneri isn’t the only talented player out of the Kansas City metro area the Sooners are pursuing. Jayshawn Ross, a four-star defensive end, has caught Oklahoma’s eye and it looks like the Sooners have made a positive impression.

Parker Thune and Brandon Drumm each issued a Rivals futurecast favoring the Sooners.

Ross is an athletic edge prospect that also plays wide receiver at the high school level. On the defensive side of the ball, he displays a great motor and strong hand usage to get through offensive tackles. He has really good closing speed and finishes plays with ferocity. Ross shows really good change of direction ability when he’s playing on the offensive side of the ball.

Though Oklahoma has been in the mix for several defensive line prospects, it has yet to land a commitment. Ross’ athleticism could be a fit as a weak side defensive end or as a cheetah in Brent Venables’ defense.
