15 biggest salary cap hits for the Ravens in 2024 after first wave of NFL free agency

With the second wave of free agency heating up and updated signings, we’re releasing the Ravens 15 biggest salary cap hits according to Over The Cap.

Change is always good for the soul, and after a stunning loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game, Baltimore has undergone a dramatic reconstruction that could pay off with championship dividends.

Changes hit the defensive coaching staff as Mike Macdonald accepted the Seahawks head coaching job, Anthony Weaver became the defensive coordinator in Miami, and Zach Orr was promoted from inside linebackers coach to defensive coordinator.

Baltimore signed Justin Madubuike, one of the league’s best defensive linemen, to an extension. After inking Madubuike to a deal, Baltimore landed Derrick Henry for two years and $16 million.

However, the Ravens suffered significant free-agent losses. Patrick Queen (Steelers), Geno Stone (Bengals), and Gus Edwards (Chargers) were among eight free agents to sign elsewhere. Baltimore also traded Morgan Moses to the Jets and released Tyus Bowser in a cost-cutting move.

With the second wave of free agency heating up and updated signings of cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman, linebacker Chris Board, and offensive guard Josh Jones, we’re releasing the 15 most significant salary cap hits according to Over The Cap.

Ravens to sign CB Ka’Dar Hollman to a 1-year deal

The Baltimore Ravens are signing free agent cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman to a 1-year deal

The Ravens are adding depth at the cornerback position. Jeff Zrebiec reports that the club is signing Ka’Dar Hollman to a one-year deal.

The 29-year-old Hollman is a former sixth-round pick of the Packers. He played in 17 games for the Texans last year, starting one.

In 2023, after being out of the league the prior two years, Hollman saw most of his action on special teams, recording ten tackles and recovering a fumble.

Ravens divisional round preview: 10 things to know about the Houston Texans

We’re looking at ten things to know about the Houston Texans ahead of their AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Baltimore Ravens

The Texans advanced to the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs for the fifth time in franchise history with a 45-14 win over the Browns in Super Wild Card Weekend.

The playoff success earned Houston a rematch against the Baltimore Ravens, and they’ll return to M&T Bank Stadium hoping to avenge a 25-9 loss in Week 1.

The Texans are a different team since that humble welcome to the NFL moment for C.J. Stroud, and all the former Ohio State star has done is shatter records and lead his team to the postseason as a rookie.

With final preparations for Saturday’s kickoff underway, we’re looking at ten things about the Houston Texans.

Texans sign CB Ka’dar Hollman to reserve/future contract

The Houston Texans are bringing back former cornerback Ka’dar Hollman on a reserve/future contract.

The Houston Texans want to make sure they didn’t miss something with a former defensive back.

The Texans signed Ka’dar Hollman to a reserve/future contract on Thursday, making the second time that the former Toledo product will be with Houston.

The first time was in 2021 when the Texans traded a 2022 seventh-rounder to the Green Bay Packers for Hollman. Houston waived Hollman at the end of preseason as part of the mandatory cuts to a 53-man roster.

Since the Texans waived Hollman, he has had a stint each with the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, and two stints with the San Francisco 49ers. The Dolphins were the most recent team to have Hollman under contract as he was a member of their practice squad starting Dec. 14 through the end of the season.

Hollman has played 18 games in his career, all for the Packers, logging one start, 10 tackles, and three pass breakups.

Dolphins sign former Packers CB to their practice squad

He was originally a sixth-round pick in 2019.

While the Miami Dolphins lost practice squad cornerback Kalon Barnes to the Minnesota Vikings, they had an open spot and were able to fill it on Wednesday, signing cornerback Ka’dar Hollman to their practice squad.

Hollman, 28, was originally a sixth-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2019 after a collegiate career at Toledo. He spent two seasons with the Packers, playing in 18 games and recording 10 tackles and three passes defensed.

Heading into this third year, Hollman was traded to the Houston Texans. He hasn’t seen any regular season action since 2020, but he’s spent time with the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons since then.

With Miami suffering a number of injuries at the position this season, there’s a chance that they could call on Hollman to provide some depth at some point.

The New York Giants already lead the league in games missed due to injury and in Week 18, they will pad that total.

On Wednesday, the Giants announced that rookie edge rusher Elerson Smith had been placed on injured reserve with a neck injury. That officially ends his season after just eight games.

Smith, a fourth-round pick last April, recorded eight tackles, one forced fumble and two QB hits in a very limited role.

Meanwhile, the Giants activated offensive tackle Korey Cunningham, defensive linemen Dexter Lawrence and Danny Shelton, and wide receiver Darius Slayton from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. They also restored linebacker Omari Cobb and defensive back Ka’dar Hollman to the practice squad from the COVID-19 list.

Finally, defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton has been placed on the practice squad/COVID-19 list.

Giants place Dexter Lawrence on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The New York Giants have placed defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, plus other transactions.

New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, head coach Joe Judge announced on Wednesday morning.

On the positive end of things, the Giants will welcome back cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson and Keion Crossen, as well as wide receiver John Ross.

All three had been added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list last week and missed a Week 16 game.

Still on the Reserve/COVID-19 list awaiting clearance to return are left tackle Nate Solder, safety Julian Love and defensive tackle Danny Shelton. Practice squad players Jonotthan Harrison and Ka’dar Hollman are also on the list.

Other roster moves happening on Wednesday are the Giants designating linebacker Trent Harris for return and the signing of Omari Cobb to the practice squad. Harris was placed on IR with an ankle injury on December 3.

Cobb was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall in 2020. He spent time on the Giants’ practice squad earlier this year.

Giants’ Matt Peart out for season after tearing ACL in Week 16

New York Giants OT Matt Peart is out for the season after tearing his ACL in a Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Matt Peart’s season for the New York Giants is officially over.

During the 34-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Peart left the game with an apparent knee injury. As it turns out, he suffered a torn ACL.

Peart was starting at right tackle for the Giants with Nate Solder on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Korey Cunningham took over for Peart when he went down with the injury.

Peart started in five of the 15 games he appeared in for the Giants in 2021.

In other roster moves, the Giants have placed safety Julian Love on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Center Evan Boehm has been released from the practice squad and cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman has been placed on the Practice Squad/COVID-19 list.

Giants sign QB Clayton Thorson to practice squad

The New York Giants have signed QB Clayton Thorson to their practice squad and made some other minor transactions.

With Daniel Jones (neck) likely out in Week 14 and veteran Mike Glennon in concussion protocol, the New York Giants have a quarterback problem.

In an effort to combat the issues, Jake Fromm was signed from the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad last week and is expected to start on Sunday. However, with depth still a concern, the Giants have protected practice squad quarterback Brian Lewerke.

But wait, there’s more.

Adding to their limited depth, the Giants signed quarterback Clayton Thorson to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Thorson, 26, was originally a fifth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 NFL draft. He was released as a part of final cuts that season and then promptly signed to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, where he’d remain until September of 2020.

After being waived by the Cowboys, he was signed to the Giants’ practice squad and eventually promoted to the active roster for two games in December. He did not make an appearance in either game.

The Giants waived/injured Thorson in August and after going unclaimed, he reverted to injured reserve. Just a few short days later, New York waived Thorson with an injury settlement. Now he’s back.

Meanwhile, defensive back Ka’dar Hollman, who was signed in October, has been placed on the practice squad/injured list.

And last, the Washington Football Team has signed running back Jonathan Williams off of the Giants’ practice squad.
