Latest CBS Sports mock draft has the Vikings going offense early

Even with the need at cornerback, the latest mock draft from CBS Sports has the Vikings going offense

Finally, a new prospect for the Minnesota Vikings Throughout the early portion of the offseason, the Vikings have typically been mocked for their cornerbacks.

That changed Wednesday when CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso released his latest mock draft and had the Vikings selecting Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

“The Vikings dip into the receiver well to complement Justin Jefferson. Awesome value here for the Vikings given Smith-Njigba’s injury in 2022 pushes him down the board.”

Adding a weapon like Smith-Njigba would be a huge boost to an offense that desperately needs someone opposite Justin Jefferson. While the Vikings still have guys like K.J. Osborn, Adam Theilen, and T.J. Hockenson, the team lacks someone who can’t take attention off Jefferson, as we saw countless times this past season.

Wide receiver is a position that’s barely talked about for the Vikings, and it could be a sneaky play, especially given how deep the cornerback class is.

Vikings vs. Giants: 4 bold predictions for Sunday’s Wild Card

Our staff each made a bold prediction for Sunday’s Vikings vs. Giants Wild Card game

The Wild Card round is upon us and we had a rarity in that all six games are rematches from the regular season, including the Minnesota Vikings taking on the New York Giants.

These two teams played each other on Christmas Eve where the Vikings came out victorious on a 61-yard field goal by kicker Greg Joseph to win 27-24.

Even though we are just three weeks removed from Christmas Eve, these two teams won’t be exactly the same. Because of that, there are opportunities to take advantage of the other with knowledge that you didn’t have before.

Vikings players react to the Packers being eliminated from the playoffs

The Packers saw their season end and it was glorious

The Minnesota Vikings clinched the third seed in the NFC with a 29-13 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but it was the Sunday night game featuring the other two NFC North teams that also had an impact on the playoffs.

The Green Bay Packers had an opportunity to make the playoffs with a win and the Detroit Lions only had the ability to eliminate the Packers from contention with the Seattle Seahawks having won earlier on Sunday.

The Lions pulled it off and beat the Packers in Lambeau Field by a score of 20-16 with a Jared Goff fourth down conversion to D.J. Chark.

After the game, a few Vikings players went to Twitter to celebrate the Packers loss and it was glorious.

Fans got in on the action as well and it got even better.

The Packers had their Super Bowl last week only to have the Lions beat them twice. A shame, really.

Vikings vs. Bears: Studs and Duds from Week 18 win

The Vikings played really well in the regular season finale

The Minnesota Vikings did what they had only done once this season: win a game by more than one score. In Week one, the Vikings beat the Green Bay Packers by 16 and did the exact same against the Chicago Bears with a 29-13 win at Soldier Field.

The game itself was a great opportunity for the Vikings to give some of their younger players valuable snaps heading into the playoffs, especially offensive linemen Vederian Lowe and Kyle Hinton on the offensive line.

In the game, there were quite a few standout performances and only a couple of poor ones. Here is the final regular season edition of studs and duds.

Vikings Adam Thielen makes history in Week 18 vs. Bears

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver made history with his touchdown reception vs. Bears

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen made history Sunday versus the Chicago Bears when he hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins early in the first quarter to put the Vikings up 6-0. The touchdown reception was Thielen’s 55th in his career. He has now tied former Washington player Hugh Taylor for the third-most receiving touchdowns by an undrafted player in NFL history.

Cousins hit wide receiver KJ Osborn for a 66-yard connection, which set the Vikings up with first and goal from the four-yard line. The Vikings then ran a play-action pass and hit Thielen wide-open in the end zone for the touchdown.

Thielen has had a quiet year this season as most of the offense has been funneled through star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Though he has shown that he’s still able to get open and that he’s still an offensive threat for the Vikings, which will be crucial for this team in the Playoffs.

Giants vs. Vikings: 5 things to know about Week 16

The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings square off on Saturday afternoon in Week 16, so here are five things fans should know.

The New York Giants (8-5-1) head out to Minnesota to face the Vikings (11-3) at US Bank Stadium this Saturday afternoon in a possible preview between two NFC playoff opponents.

Here are five things to know before Saturday’s Week 16 game.

Kevin O’Connell provides injury updates from Saturday’s historic win

The Vikings luckily had only minor injuries on Saturday

Injuries ended up playing a major factor in the Minnesota Vikings’ historic 39-36 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday afternoon. Cameron Dantzler ended up suiting up but didn’t appear to play a single snap and Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury.

The Vikings ended up having multiple players go down with injuries during the game, but thankfully they all ended up being minor.

During his postgame press conference, head coach Kevin O’Connell updated the media on the Vikings’ injuries and luckily they were miminal.

Justin Jefferson suffered a rib/chest contusion but feels fine and K.J. Osborn, Christian Darrisaw and Patrick Peterson all suffered cramps, which is normal for a game that lasts that long.

The big issue here is that the Vikings didn’t have Dantzler but they somehow didn’t need him as Duke Shelley picked up the slack and kept making big plays.
