Ohio State offers top-100 2025 Tennessee offensive lineman

The Buckeyes has going hard after this impressive OL #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] is going to add some pretty large feathers to his cap in April. Three from his position group, Paris Johnson Jr., Dawand Jones and Luke Wypler, are expected to hear their names called early in the NFL draft.

That clout is only going to help on the recruiting trail, not just for this cycle but also beyond. Frye will use that with Tennessee lineman [autotag]Chauncey Gooden[/autotag], who was recently offered a scholarship.

The 6-foot, 4-inch, 320-pound player isn’t ranked nationally on the 247Sports composite, but Gooden is the No. 78 overall player and No. 4 interior offensive lineman in the country in his class.

Gooden holds an impressive list of offers that includes Oregon, USC, Tennessee and Florida.

Ohio State offers fast-rising Georgia offensive tackle from familiar high school

The Buckeyes have entered the chat #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football is no stranger to Langston Hughes High School which resides just outside Atlanta, Georgia. The Buckeyes just signed tight end [autotag]Jelani Thurman[/autotag] who prepped there and are also recruiting quarterback [autotag]Air Noland[/autotag], who is coming to Columbus soon to try and get a scholarship offer.

It doesn’t stop there with talented players at Langston Hughes, as today the Buckeyes offered a scholarship to offensive lineman [autotag]Dontrell Glover[/autotag]. He’s a large young man, standing 6-foot, 6-inches tall and weighing 280 pounds.

What’s interesting is that Glover has yet to be ranked by any of the larger services, even though he previously held offers from LSU, Georgia, and Texas.

There’s no doubt that a player with the offer list that Glover is accumulating,  will soon be making a rise up the recruiting ranking boards. Offensive tackle is a big need going forward and getting Glover’s attention early is a good start to his relationship with head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag].

Ohio State receives crystal balls for twin Ohio offensive lineman

Keeping the best talent home #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] wasn’t kidding when comments were made about recruiting on a more regional basis due to Name, Image and Likeness.

Yes, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and his staff will still seek out the best prospects nationally, but if they believe that the talent is equal at home, then going a bit harder after an Ohioan, or in this case, a pair of them, makes sense.

In January, scholarship offers went out to St. Edward twins Devontae and Deontae Armstrong, each of them possessing the attributes that offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] was looking for. Devontae was offered as an interior offensive lineman while Deontae was as a tackle.

After meeting with the Buckeye coaches, it seems like the Armstrongs are leaning towards staying home. Ohio State’s 247Sports insider, Bill Kurelic, thought enough of the information that he was able to gather and put a crystal ball pick (subscription required) in for each of the twins to end up at Ohio State.

[autotag]Devontae Armstrong[/autotag] stands six-foot-six-inches while weighting 290-pounds. He is the No. 33 ranked offensive tackle and the 446th overall player according to the 247Sports composite. Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, and others have offered.

[autotag]Deontae Armstrong[/autotag] is a bit taller at 6-foot, 7-inches while being a bit lighter at 280-pounds. He is tied with his brother in the rankings and has the same bigger offers, giving more emphasis that they are twins.

Ohio State receives a crystal ball projection for recently offered offensive lineman

This Ohioan is trending to stay home #GoBucks

If there is one position Ohio State missed on during the 2023 recruiting cycle that makes the need in 2024 that much greater, it’s offensive tackle.

The Buckeyes signed Luke Montgomery, Joshua Padilla, Austin Siereveld, and Miles Walker as their offensive line group this past class, with Montgomery expected to be a guy in the mix. Walker is viewed as a viable tackle option as well, but he was the lowest-rated player in the class, so the Connecticut native is viewed as more of a project.

With three starters moving on along the offensive line from last season, that means the need is there for head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] to rectify the situation in 2024. The good news is Bill Kurelic of 247Sports, an Ohio State insider, logged a crystal ball projection for in-state lineman [autotag]Marc Nave Jr.[/autotag] to join the Buckeye class.

The 6-foot, 5-inch, 315-pounder was offered this past week Nave Jr. played mostly guard in high school and he doesn’t have the prototypical size for a left tackle, he sure does for right tackle, boasting a 6-foot, 9-inch wingspan. He also has enough versatility to shuffle inside or outside like the Buckeye coaching staff has done in the past with [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag] before moving them back to the outside.

It’s good news that Kurelic believes that Nave will end up with the Buckeyes; he is one of the most respected Ohio State insiders in the business.

Ohio State most likely making top 2024 offensive lineman’s list

The Buckeyes should make the trimmed list #GoBucks

Although Washington, DC offensive lineman Jordan Seaton has yet to officially trim down his recruiting list, it seems like [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] along with Michigan State and Oklahoma are going to make the cut.

Seaton will announce his top schools on his Instagram, but reading into his tweet about it, it seems like those three schools will make it. The big man recently visited Georgia this past weekend and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the defending two-time College Football Playoff champs making his list as well.

The massive offensive lineman stands 6-foot, 5-inches and weights 287-pounds and holds offers from the majority of powerhouse programs from across the country.

There is some versatility to Seaton’s game, he could end up on the interior or as a right tackle. He’s not quite big enough to be a left tackle, but probably could play there if needed. Either way, Ohio State head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] would love to have Seaton wearing the Scarlet and Gray in the near future.

Report: Both transfer tackles Ohio State has offered will visit this weekend

Both will be on campus this weekend! #GoBucks

The Buckeyes made quick decisions on who they wanted to target in the transfer portal along the offensive line: Rhode Island’s [autotag]Ajani Cornelius[/autotag] and UTEP’s [autotag]Jeremiah Byers[/autotag].

Both big men were offered scholarships this weekend and [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] along with offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] have made a big enough impression with each that they will visit Columbus this weekend according to a report by 247Sports and by Fox’s [autotag]Bruce Feldman[/autotag].

This development is very interesting. On Friday, I postulated that both current starting tackles, [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag] could be leaving [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] with eligibility remaining. Day is hedging his bets, which makes a ton of sense as the tackle position is the most important along the offensive line.

This is a nice contrast from what the Buckeyes have done previously with the portal, watching other teams use it to fortify their rosters. Since getting the tackles on campus for a visit is a huge step in their recruitment, expect Ohio State to be contenders for their commitments when each makes his choice.

Report: Ohio State team to beat for 2024 Washington, DC offensive lineman

Who wouldn’t want to block for Dylan?

With the 2023 recruiting cycle quickly coming to an end, many school have already started to recruit some 2024 prospects very hard. For the Buckeyes, they are off to a very good start, especially at quarterback with consensus number one overall player [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag]. Indiana offensive lineman [autotag]Ian Moore[/autotag] and Ohio athlete [autotag]Garrett Stover[/autotag] round out the class and according to a report (insider) from 247Sports Steve Wiltfong, Ohio State is leading for Washington, DC offensive lineman Jordan Seaton.

The six-foot-five-inch and 287-pound interior lineman holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Tennessee, USC and others. Seaton is fresh off a visit to Columbus this past weekend and Wiltfong has crystal balled him to eventually join the class.

It would be another recruiting win for [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] if Seaton were to commit. Time will tell is this report is correct but at the moment, things looks very good for Ohio State with Seaton.

Ohio State football officially announces hiring of Justin Frye

The Ohio State football program announced the hiring of UCLA’s Justin Frye as associate head coach for offense/offensive line Tuesday.

We’ve heard sourcing and speculation for a few days now, but it’s now official.

The Ohio State football program officially announced the hiring of Justin Frye as the new offensive line coach Tuesday in a release. The official title is associate head coach for offense/offensive line coach, which means Frye’s duties will most assuredly go beyond just working with the men in the trenches. His hiring replaces the void left by the dismissal of former offensive line coach Greg Studrawa after the Rose Bowl.

Frye, who worked with head coach Ryan Day at Temple and Boston College, and alongside Day’s mentor, Chip Kelly, had been with UCLA for the last four seasons as the offensive coordinator. He brings 15-years of experience and a proven track record of enhancing offensive output at each of his stops.

“I am thrilled to welcome Justin, his wife, Lauren, and their family to Ohio State and the football program,” Day said in a statement. “Justin and I have worked on the same staffs together and I’ve seen first-hand how good he is at developing his players as well as building personal connections with them. I believe he’ll do great things here to enhance his room and our offense as a whole.”

Frye is a graduate of Indiana University, earning his degree in sports communications and broadcasting. His wife, Lauren, is from Mentor, Ohio, and they have four children: Kevin, Zoe, Max, and Welles.

Ohio State appears to be primed to name UCLA’s Justin Frye as offensive line coach

Looks like the move could become official soon. #GoBucks

According to multiple reports, UCLA offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Justin Frye is close to being named the new O-line coach at Ohio State. The move has been speculated since the Buckeyes let go of current offensive line coach Greg Studrawa, with Sports Illustrated the first to report the pending move.

Frye is 38-years old has been at UCLA under Chip Kelly since 2018, but began his career in 2007 as a graduate assistant at Iowa where he played from 2002-2006. After moving on to Florida as a GA under Urban Meyer for two years, he landed his first job as offensive line coach at Temple in 2011, when he first crossed paths with current Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, who was on staff as the Owls’ offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach one year later in 2012.

The two coached two years together at Boston College until Chip Kelly snatched up Day when he took the head coaching job with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles. After Kelly moved back to the college game in 2018, he hired Frye once again, promoting him to offensive coordinator along with duties with the offensive line in 2019.

Frye has a history of his units performing well and looks to bring that to Columbus where the team seemed to regress in the running game this season against physical teams. There has been no official announcement from Ohio State yet, but when it does come, we’ll have the news for you.
