Players we’ll miss most from the Big 10 and Pac-12: Ohio State QB Justin Fields

Ranking the 10 football players we will miss watching the most from the Big 10 and Pac-12: No. 1 Ohio State QB Justin Fields.

The Big Ten announced its decision Tuesday to postpone fall sports. Minutes after, the Pac-12 made the decision to postpone its season as well.

With two of the Power Five conferences not playing, the entire college football season is now up in the air. The SEC, ACC and Big 12 still have plans to have their conference-only seasons, but there are a number of players, coaches and teams that college football fans will miss watching dearly.

The No. 1 player we will miss watching most this year from the Big Ten and Pac-12 is Ohio State junior quarterback Justin Fields.

Fields is a Kennesaw, Georgia native and was likely entering the final year of his college career before heading to the NFL draft.  He played in 12 of 14 games as a true freshman for Georgia in 2018.  Backing up Jake Fromm, Fields completed 27 of 39 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns, also rushing for four touchdowns.

The former Georgia quarterback had an incredible sophomore season at Ohio State, throwing for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist and made it to the College Football Playoff, losing by six to the Clemson Tigers in the semifinals.

Besides Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Fields is the face of college football.  He has been a big advocate of letting the players play, starting a petition on Sunday to reinstate the 2020 Big Ten football season.

Fields is a fierce competitor and will be greatly missed on the field this fall.

On Sunday morning, the Heisman hopeful created and shared an online petition that seeks to reinstate the 2020 Big Ten football season. The campaign, addressed to Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren, Big Ten university presidents, and Big Ten athletic directors, asks that the Big Ten overturn its decision to postpone the fall football season in 2020.

“We, the football players of the Big Ten, together with the fans and supporters of college football, request that the Big Ten Conference immediately reinstate the 2020 football season. Allow Big Ten players/teams to make their own choice as to whether they wish to play or opt out this fall season. Allow Big Ten players/teams who choose to opt out of playing a fall season to do so without penality or repercussion,” the petition reads.

The petition also explains why the players believe it is safe to play and why it is important to sign it.

“We want to play. We believe that safety protocols have been established and can be maintained to mitigate concerns of exposure to Covid 19. We believe that we should have the right to make decisions about what is best for our health and our future. Don’t let our hard work and sacrifice be in vain. #LetUsPlay!”

As of 12:30 pm ET Sunday, the petition has already collected over 30,000 signatures.

Despite the Big Ten’s decision to cancel fall sports, the #WeWantToPlay movement has not stopped fighting for the conference to reconsider. Earlier this morning, Ohio State QB Justin Fields, the biggest star in the conference, tweeted out a petition to “request that the Big Ten Conference immediately reinstate the 2020 football season.”

The petition reads as follows:

“We, the football players of the Big Ten, together with the fans and supporters of college football, request that the Big Ten Conference immediately reinstate the 2020 football season. Allow Big Ten players/teams to make their own choice as to whether they wish to play or opt out this fall season. Allow Big Ten players/teams who choose to opt out of playing a fall season to do so without penalty or repercussion.”

“Why is this important?

We want to play. We believe that safety protocols have been established and can be maintained to mitigate concerns of exposure to Covid 19. We believe that we should have the right to make decisions about what is best for our health and our future. Don’t let our hard work and sacrifice be in vain. #LetUsPlay!”

The petition is addressed to the Big Ten Conference, Commissioner Kevin Warren, and the Presidents of the Big Ten schools who ultimately voted on the decision.

As of 11:30 AM central, the petition has over 23,000 signatures in just over one hour of being up. The Heisman finalist and Big Ten Player of the Year has been extremely vocal about wanting a season reinstated in the fall so that he can compete in likely his final college season before heading to the NFL.

Anybody who feels inclined can sign the petition here to be a part of the #WeWantToPlay movement.

Justin Fields starts petition to reinstate 2020 Big Ten football season

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields already has over 5,000 signatures on a petition to reinstate the Big Ten’s 2020 football season

The Big Ten Conference has voted to postpone their 2020 fall football season, with hopes to play in the spring. But for one of the top prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft class, that’s not gonna cut it.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has started an online petition to have the Big Ten’s 2020 season reinstated, and it already has more than 5,000 signatures:

Fields is widely regarded as the No. 2 quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class, behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Both players have been extremely vocal in recent weeks about their desire to go through with a fall football season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other top prospects across the country, including Big Ten stars like Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore and Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman, have already opted out of the 2020 season and have begun preparations for next year’s draft.

But for Fields and many others, they still have their sights set on fall football in the Big Ten.
