Ravens to host free agent WR Josh Reynolds on a visit

The Baltimore Ravens are in need of wide receiver help and will host Lions free agent pass catcher Josh Reynolds on a visit

The Ravens need a wide receiver opposite Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor and Rashod Bateman. With the second wave of free agency set to begin, Baltimore is set to host Josh Reynolds on a visit.

Last season, Reynolds caught 40 of his 64 targets for 608 yards and five touchdowns in 17 regular-season games (13 starts) for Detroit. In three playoff games, he added eight catches for 132 yards and a touchdown.

After averaging 56.8 yards per game with three touchdowns over the first six games of the year, Reynolds’ production decreased, as he averaged only 26.4 yards per game after that point.

If the season started today, Tylan Wallace would be the Ravens’ No. 4 wide receiver on the depth chart.

Stay or go: Predicting the fate of all the Detroit Lions free agents

Which of the 18 unrestricted free agents will the Lions keep, and which ones will be suiting up elsewhere in 2024?

One of the harder parts of the offseason for NFL front offices is deciding which free agents they want to keep and which ones will have to leave. It’s a process Lions GM Brad Holmes and his Detroit front office staff are facing in the coming days.

The Lions have already made a couple of decisions, bringing back LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin and K Michael Badgley as pending free agents. That brings the total of unrestricted free agents for the Lions to 18 when the new league year starts on Wednesday, March 13th at 4 p.m. ET.

Detroit Lions unrestricted free agents now that the 2023 season is completed

With the 2024 offseason looming, here is the master list of the Detroit Lions unrestricted free agents

The Detroit Lions had an impressive season, coming within one game of a Super Bowl berth despite their loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Looking ahead, the future seems promising for the Lions.

GM Brad Holmes and Coach Dan Campbell are likely already diligently evaluating the roster, identifying areas for improvement to overcome the challenges. From a personal perspective, they should have the trust of the fanbase to execute the necessary moves. As they enter the offseason, the Lions possess $58.6 million in cap space, ranking sixth in the NFL according to Over the Cap. This substantial amount will likely be essential to bolster the roster, especially with only 38 players currently under contract for the upcoming season.

Certain players demonstrated their value this season, earning a return to the roster, while others failed to meet expectations. The decisions on who to retain and who to release will be intriguing. Here’s the comprehensive list of the Lions’ unrestricted free agents.

Breaking down the PFF grades from Lions appearance in NFC Championship game

Breaking down the best and worst PFF grades from Lions appearance in NFC Championship game

PFF grades are coming to an end for the 2023 season as the Lions were not able to complete their magical run. They blew a 17-point lead to the San Frcnisco 49ers and are now in position of the 29th pick in the draft. Meanwhile, he 49ers are packing their bags for Las Vegas to faceoff against the Chiefs.

A Chiefs team that these same Lions beat in week one, can’t forget that one.

As for the PFF grades, this Lions team played well and fought to the very last second. Some played and showed up much better than others, these grades will make it easy to find those players.

Here are the PFF grades from the Lions NFC Championship appearance.

Studs & Duds for the Lions playoff loss to the 49ers

Here are the Detroit Lions Studs and Duds as they fall one game short with the their loss to the San Francisco 49ers

The Detroit Lions’ remarkable season concludes on a heartbreaking note as they surrender a 17-point lead in a 34-31 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.

In the first half, the Lions asserted control with a commanding 24-7 lead, showcasing an unstoppable offense and a defense that made crucial stops at opportune moments. However, the narrative took a sharp turn in the second half, as everything that could go wrong for the Lions seemingly did, creating a deficit they couldn’t overcome by the game’s end.

While the Lions’ season exceeded expectations, their inexperience and missed opportunities became evident in this critical game, leaving them just one step shy of a Super Bowl berth.

As we bid farewell to the season, let’s reflect on the Studs and Duds in the Lions’ loss to the 49ers in the NFC Championship.

49ers advance to Super Bowl LVIII for rematch with the Chiefs

49ers advance to Super Bowl LVIII for rematch with the Chiefs

This is going to be a tough pill to swallow for the 12th Man. After losing in the NFC Championship in each of the last two seasons, the third time was apparently the charm for the San Francisco 49ers who prevailed 34-31 over the Detroit Lions. It was a particularly frustrating and crushing Sunday evening for Seahawks fans presumably rooting hard for the Lions. But alas, being forced to watch the 49ers in their second Super Bowl since 2019 will be the regrettable reality.

Detroit started the game blisteringly hot, as the Lions’ high-octane offense exploded for an early 14-0 lead, then a 24-7 margin at halftime. Detroit was in full control and looked like they were well on their way to finally breaking through to their first Super Bowl appearance ever.

Unfortunately, clock struck midnight for the Lions and they turned back into a pumpkin right before our very eyes. The 17 point lead quickly evaporated thanks to a San Francisco field goal, a drop from Lions receiver Josh Reynolds on 4th down (instead of kicking a field goal), the flukiest non-interception you’ll ever see, and a fumble from rookie Jahmyr Gibbs quickly had the game knotted up at 24-24.

After another 49ers field goal and touchdown from Elijah Mitchell, the game was decidedly in San Francisco’s hands with a 34-24 lead and barely over three minutes left in the game.

Detroit tried to make things interesting with a late touchdown to make it 34-31, but once they failed to recover the onside kick it was all over. Yet again, an NFC Championship eludes the Lions. Now we have a rematch of Super Bowl LIV, which the 49ers squandered in hilarious fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs in a 31-20 game.

Unless you’re from the Bay Area or Missouri, it is hard to imagine people around the country getting too excited to watch this Super Bowl. The Chiefs are no longer the flashy young upstarts. Instead, they have indisputably taken the place of the New England Patriots as the perennial Super Bowl participants. The consistent trips to the big game and the media’s obsession to overexpose Taylor Swift (which is not her fault!at every game has led to a general fatigue for Kansas City.

But it’s not as if the 49ers are an easy-to-root-for underdog either. Yes, I know that opinion is slightly biased coming from me, but I doubt there are large swaths of folks outside of their “faithful” fandom who are too invested in seeing San Francisco take home a sixth Lombardi. Especially when those of us who watch the game are already pre-nauseated from the Brock Purdy media hype train that is sure to suffocate us for the next two weeks.

6 pending free agents to watch in Lions-49ers NFC Championship Game

Two of the best teams in the NFL are about to take the stage when the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers kick off. Hopefully the New Orleans Saints can get where these squads have gotten and reach the NFC Championship Game next year.

Signing some of their players would help. Both the Lions and the 49ers have some pending free agents who could be good fits in New Orleans. If the Saints want to build a playoffs-ready roster, they should stock it with some players who have been there before. Here are some names to watch on Sunday evening:

Lions injury update: Sam LaPorta upgrades, Chase Lucas sits out

Sam LaPorta upgrades, Chase Lucas sits out of Thursday’s practice ahead of the NFC Championship game

The Detroit Lions practice participation report from Thursday’s session in Allen Park had a couple of notable changes from the Wednesday edition.

Good news first!

Tight end Sam LaPorta upgraded from out on Wednesday to being a limited participant on Thursday. The All-Pro is still dealing with the knee injury he suffered in Week 18. LaPorta has played in both playoff games and is expected to do so again, barring any setbacks.

Now for the negative…

Special teams standout Chase Lucas sat out with an undisclosed illness. Lucas has been fantastic as the gunner on special teams since returning to the Lions after being cut during the season.

Frank Ragnow, Jonah Jackson and Kalif Raymond all remained out. Ragnow is the only one of that trio who projects to be available to play in San Francisco on Sunday.

Linebacker Alex Anzalone and wideout Josh Reynolds were limited for the second day in a row. Anzalone has been playing through broken ribs. Reynolds is also dealing with a rib injury.

Jared Goff hits Josh Reynolds with laser for Lions touchdown

The Lions get the first touchdown of the game against the Bucs

The Detroit Lions have the first touchdown of their Divisional Round game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It was a third-and-five when Jared Goff dropped back and fired a pass to Josh Reynolds in the back of the end zone.

Someone blew a coverage as the former Ram — actually, they both are former Rams — was wide-open.

After the PAT, the Lions led, 10-3.
