Four-star safety Jireh Edwards names his top 5 schools

Georgia football is in the mix for four-star safety recruit Jireh Edwards

Elite class of 2026 safety recruit Jireh Edwards narrowed down his top schools list to just five teams including the Georgia Bulldogs. He also included Oregon, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Tennessee among his top schools. Georgia football offered a scholarship Edwards in Feb. of 2024.

Edwards is a four-star recruit from Largo, Maryland. He was a part of the Under Armour All-American Game roster with Georgia recruits Elijah Griffin and Juan Gaston. He plays for St. Frances Academy in the Baltimore, Maryland area. He is considered a top-five safety recruit in the class of 2026 and the No. 33 recruit in the nation.

Georgia doesn’t have the strongest recruiting class for 2026 yet. The Bulldogs rank 14th in the nation with commitments from four-stars Vance Spafford and Lincoln Keyes, along with three-stars Jontavius Wyman and JUCO transfer Seven Cloud.

For 2025, Georgia was looking for defensive backs. With Malaki Starks and Dan Jackson entering the draft, along with Julian Humphrey, Jake Pope, and others transferring, Georgia needed some replacements and they found a few. Zion Branch from USC, Adrian Maddox from Florida, and Jaden Harris from Miami recently transferred to Georgia.

Elite 2026 S Jireh Edwards puts Oregon Ducks among top schools

The Oregon Ducks landed among the top schools for 4-star safety Jireh Edwards, the No. 3 safety in the 2026 class.

The defensive secondary has been a major focus for the Oregon Ducks in the recruiting world over the last few years, and they’ve done an excellent job of bringing in some of the best players in the nation.

Just this year, Oregon signed the No. 2 safety, the No. 3 cornerback, the No. 5 cornerback, and the No. 8 safety in the 2025 class. Now they are trying to make a splash once again with 2026 4-star S Jireh Edwards.

On Wednesday, Edwards announced that he has cut his recruitment down to five schools, putting Oregon in the mix alongside the Georgia Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Tennessee Volunteers.

Edwards is rated as the No. 3 safety in the 2026 class, per 247Sports, and the No. 33 overall player in the nation. He stands at 6-foot-1, 194 pounds, and comes from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland — the same school as Oregon’s soon-to-be redshirt freshman cornerback Ify Obidegwu.

Edwards has been to Eugene on a visit before, and we will likely see him make a return trip this summer as he continues to narrow down his recruitment.

2026 4-star safety out of Upper Marlboro (MD) places Texas A&M in his Top 5

2026 4-star safety Jireh Edwards has placed Texas A&M among his top 5 program list

Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class has a chance to finish as the No. 1-ranked cycle by this time next year. The 2025 offseason has given coach Mike Elko and his staff time to focus on hosting a bevy of talent during the first junior day last weekend.

While five-star offensive tackles Jackson Cantwell and Immanuel Ihenacho stick out as the priority prospects, Elko’s defensive mindset and developmental background have led several highly ranked secondary prospects to consider the programs, including four-star safety and Maryland native Jireh Edwards.

On tape, Edwards is an athlete with the closing speed and instincts to thrive at either safety position. Standing at 6-1 and nearly 200 pounds, he is an incoming senior who released his top five program list on Wednesday. Texas A&M joined Tennessee, Auburn, Oregon, and Georgia as the final schools he will focus on.

So far, three-star safety Markel Ford and three-star cornerback Ryan Gilbert are the only secondary commits in A&M’s 2026 cycle, making Edwards another priority recruit moving forward.
