Four-star safety Jayden Bonsu announced on Saturday this top five schools list — which included the Spartans. Michigan State was joined by Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama and Miami (FL).

Bonsu also announced that he’ll be officially announcing his commitment on August 20.

Bonsu is ranked as the No. 24 safety and No. 272 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2023 class. He’s also listed as the No. 3 player from New Jersey.

Bonsu is currently projected to pick Ohio State, according to 247Sports. However, he did recently take official visits to Michigan State, Miami (FL), and Alabama. So there could be some movement in the direction for him to end up at one of those schools instead. We will know soon enough.

Three-star prospect Jayden Bonsu is reportedly planning on taking an official visit to Michigan State on June 10.

Justin Thind of 247Sports reported the recruiting news on Bonsu on Wednesday. Bonsu is ranked as the No. 34 safety in the 2023 class.

Michigan State is one of 19 programs to already extend a scholarship offer to Bonsu. The Spartans offered Bonsu last October. He also holds offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee, Oklahoma and USC.

Michigan State is continuing to build up a massive list of high-level recruits that are intending to take official visits to campus in June. This could bode very well for the 2023 class that head coach Mel Tucker and his staff is building up.

The Georgia Bulldogs are among the latest programs to offer a scholarship to class of 2023 defensive back recruit Jayden Bonsu. Bonsu has recent scholarship offers from Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, LSU, and more.

He is one of the rising prospects in the class of 2023. Bonsu is ranked as a three-star recruit, but his recent offers indicate he has the potential to finish ranked as a four-star.

Bonsu plays high school football for St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, New Jersey. New Georgia Bulldogs defensive back coach Fran Brown is familiar with the northeast recruiting territory and has excellent relationships in the area. He is part of the reason why the Bulldogs are offering Bonsu.

The three-star defensive back is 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and primarily plays safety. Bonsu is the No. 7 recruit in New Jersey and the No. 361 overall prospect.

Bonsu announced his scholarship offer from Georgia via Twitter:

The St. Peter’s Prep star received a scholarship offer from Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide just two days before Georgia offered Jayden Bonsu.

Recruits react to weekend with Oklahoma on social media

What did recruits, coaches, and parents have to say via social media following Oklahomaā€™s latest recruiting weekend?

There are severalĀ themes coming out of Norman with every recruiting weekend and this past weekend was no different. Parents and recruits left from their visit with the Oklahoma Sooners with positive vibes and excited about what Brent Venables and his staff are building.

In the aftermath of Lincoln Rileyā€™s abrupt departure for USC, the question became what would become of Oklahoma without the ā€œchosen one.ā€ As a recruiter, Brent Venables has answered the call and has the Oklahoma Sooners well positioned to build upon their 2022 recruiting class, which finished No. 8 in the nation, with a strong 2023 class as well.

Hosting one of two recruiting weekends in March aimed at the 2023 class, the Sooners welcomed players from across the country to show them everything the University of Oklahoma has to offer.

Will it lead to commitments? Only time will tell, but the Oklahoma Sooners continue to put themselves in a great spot on the recruiting trail. As recruits talk about the great time they had, it will open the door for OUā€™s coaches to get an opportunity with even more highly-rated recruits.

Hereā€™s a look at some of the reactions from Oklahomaā€™s weekend visitors.

Georgia football offers 2023 New Jersey S Jayden Bonsu

Georgia offers NJ safety Jayden Bonsu.

The Georgia Bulldogs have extended a scholarship offer to 2023 3-star safety Jayden Bonsu, out of Hillside, New Jersey.

Bonsu, a 6-foot-2, 200 pound defensive back, ranks as the nation’s No. 351 overall player and No. 33 ranked safety, according to 247Sports. Rivals, however, considers Bonsu a 4-star prospect.

Bonsu tweeted the news last week, tagging new Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown, who recently left Bonsu’s state of New Jersey, where he was coaching at Rutgers, to come to Athens.

Georgiaā€™s 2023 recruiting class has lost two four-star commits this week, wide receiverĀ Daquayvious SoreyĀ and cornerbackĀ Kaylin Lee.

Prior to Leeā€™s de-commitment from the Bulldogsā€™ program, Kirby Smart and UGA had the nationā€™s No. 2 ranked class for the 2023 cycle, according toĀ 247Sportsā€™ Team Rankings.Ā

Now withĀ seven commits, Georgiaā€™s class is sitting at No. 3, trailingĀ Notre DameĀ (1) andĀ ArkansasĀ (2).

Obviously itā€™s still very early and the rankings donā€™t mean much right now (Alabama, which will surely close with a top-three class, is currently at No. 22), but losing two four-stars in one week is never ideal.

Georgia has not finished with a class ranked outside of the top-five since 2016, when it finished No. 6. So expect UGA to be just fine, especially when you consider the Dawgs won the national title less than two months ago and we are still 10 months away from the start of the early signing period.

Hereā€™s a look at who is currently committed to Georgia for the class of 2023:

4-star CB Marcus Washington (Grovetown, Ga.)

No. 57 overall, No. 7 CB

4-star OT Bo Hughley (Fairburn, Ga.)

No. 58 overall, No. 6 OT

4-star TE Pearce Spurlin (Santa Rosa Beach, Fl.)

No. 68 overall, No. 3 TE

4-star WR Raymond Cottrell (Milton, Fl.)

No. 90 overall, No. 14 WR

4-star TE Lawson Luckie (Norcross, Ga.)

No. 216 overall, No. 13 TE

3-star IOL RyQueze McElderly (Anniston, Al.)

No. 469 overall, No. 31 IOL

3-star DL Seven Cloud (Powder Springs, Ga.)

No. 516 overall, No. 65 DL

Following Brent Venablesā€™ departure for Oklahoma to be the Soonersā€™ new head coach, The Clemson Insider reached out to a bunch of defensive prospects that Clemson has been involved with to get their reactions to the Tigers’ former defensive coordinator leaving.

Here’s what some of them had to say to TCI:

Jayden Bonsu, 2023 4-star S, Saint Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, N.J.): “My reaction is that I am not surprised. A lot of coaches have been moving around, but I wish Coach Venables the best because he made the decision which is best for him and his family.”

Troy Bowles, 2023 4-star LB, Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.): “Unexpected kind of, but I understand. Iā€™m happy for him, he deserves it.”

Lewis Carter, 2023 4-star ATH, Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Fla.): “I kind of saw it coming so I wasnā€™t too much surprised, but Iā€™m glad he got a head coach job and a new opportunity.”

Dee Crayton, 2023 4-star LB, Denmark (Alpharetta, Ga.): “I feel like he has to do whatā€™s best for him and his fam. College football is a business. If that was the best opportunity for him, he did the right thing. Iā€™m happy for him. I wish him the absolute best.”

Grant Godfrey, 2023 4-star LB, North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.): “Absolutely crazy. I thought he was gonna be there a little longer because I’m pretty sure I saw his sons on the team.”

David Ojiegbe, 2023 4-star DL, St. John’s (Washington, D.C.): “Just a huge surprise.”

Jaeden Jackson, 3-star DL, Andalusia (Andalusia, Ala.): “My reaction is like wow and I know Coach V had been on the brink every year with schools trying to lure and pull him away from Clemson. I just hope he doesn’t change his number. But good opportunity for him.”

Moussa Kane, 3-star ATH, Blair Academy (Blairstown, N.J.): “Iā€™m very happy for him and his opportunity. He definitely deserves it and it’s a great program and it does not affect my recruiting.”

Ben Cutter, 2023 LB, East Lincoln (Denver, N.C.): “He’s such a great coach. He deserves the position. I’m excited to see what he does with Oklahoma’s program.”

Travon West, 2023 S, Wren (Piedmont, S.C.): “Itā€™s heartbreaking and a big hit to the Clemson team. Iā€™m sure it was a hard decision for Coach Venables and it took a lot for him to make it. It sucks but as long as heā€™s doing whatā€™s best for him and heā€™s happy, thatā€™s all that matters.”

Sammy Brown, 2024 4-star LB, Jefferson (Jefferson, Ga.): “Itā€™s obviously very saddening seeing him leave a great program but heā€™s going to do great. Oklahoma is going to be a great place for him and heā€™s gonna do amazing out there. For Clemson, theyā€™ll be fine too. Iā€™m very confident that Coach Swinney will get someone in there that can do the job. Heā€™ll be able to find someone just as good as Coach Venables.”

Ahmad Moten, 2022 3-star DL, Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.): “Great opportunity for him.”
