Ohio State football offseason transfer portal tracker

A look at the comings and goings of Ohio State football players and the transfer portal for the 2023 offseason. #GoBucks

Now that the book has been closed on the season for the Ohio State football program — in disappointing and dramatic fashion — we’ll be taking a forward look toward next season. We’ve already taken an extremely early look at the schedule for 2023, and now it’s time to focus on the roster.

Specifically, now that there’s nothing more to play for, you can bet that we’ll start to get news on OSU players that enter the transfer portal. We’ve already experienced a few putting their names in to keep options open, but don’t be surprised if we hear about a few more.

So, to make it easy to keep tabs on, we’re kicking off our Ohio State football offseason transfer portal tracker and will update it as new players enter, and any developments with those already announced as looking at other programs.

Here’s where things stand just after the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. Be sure to check back often as things tend to happen pretty quickly. First, we’ll focus on the guys looking to leave the program.

NEXT … Ohio State players entering their names into the transfer portal

Former Ohio State safety Jantzen Dunn announces transfer destination

Former top-10 safety is heading home to Kentucky.

Former Ohio State safety Jantzen Dunn was the most recent Buckeye to enter the transfer portal and he became the first to announce his new home. The Kentucky native has decided he will go back home to the Bluegrass State and play for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Dunn was the No. 10 safety in the 2021 recruiting class according to 247Sports composite rankings and chose OSU over the likes of Kentucky, Louisville, and Tennessee. Dunn suffered a season-ending injury during his freshman year and was never able to get his footing thereafter. Dunn continued to battle injury during the spring and was only able to contribute sparingly on special teams play this season.

Dunn’s departure means the 2021 class has zero safeties left from that class. Jaylen Johnson entered the transfer portal shortly after the regular season ended and the highest-rated safety in Ohio State’s class, Andre Turrentine transferred to Tennesee in the spring after just one season with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State continues preparations to take on No. 1 Georgia in the CFP semi-final on December 31 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Another Ohio State defensive back enters the transfer portal

A third Buckeye has entered the transfer portal. #GoBucks

The third member of the Ohio State football team entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. Second-year safety Jantzen Dunn broke the news via a Twitter post. He joins safety Jaylen Johnson and linebacker Teradja Mitchell in the portal since the end of the regular season.

Out of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dunn was a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports composite, but he suffered a season-ending injury early in the 2021 season and has struggled to get back on the field since.

OSU has multiple defensive backs that have passed him on the depth chart, so it seems safe to assume Dunn is looking for better opportunities and a fresh start somewhere else.

This will not be the last of the transfer portal news we hear from Ohio State, so stay with us as more activity occurs, especially after whatever fate awaits the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Rutgers game, notable names missing

Ohio State football issues availability report for Rutgers game, notable names missing #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has issued the availability report for the game against Rutgers, and there are a few notable names that will not be taking part in game No. 4.

With the game under Wisconsin under its belt, Ohio State has a few guys that were bumped and bruised against the Badgers, but most of the names on the list just transitioned over from the previous week. The most notable name on this list is star wide receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is listed as unavailable for today.

At this point it is getting concerning that Jaxon Smith-Njigba is still not active, but this may have less to do with his injury and more to do with Rutgers being inferior.

Freshman safety Jantzen Dunn has black stripe removed

One of a trio to have their black stripes removed on Friday, 4-star safety Jantzen Dunn.

It must have been a blast at Ohio State fall preseason practice on Friday because social media was ablaze with guys having black stripes torn off their hats. In fact, a trio of newcomers received the honor to be welcomed into the brotherhood “officially.”

Not only did Jordan Hancock and Donovan Jackson get recognized in a brief ceremony, but freshman safety Jantzen Dunn also impressed enough since he arrived in Columbus to shed his black stripe.

Out of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dunn was a 4-star prospect ranked as the No. 10 safety and 172nd overall prospect in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. And now, he can walk into practice knowing that everyone can see that scarlet stripe in all its glory streaming down that iconic silver lid.

“I just want to thank y’all boys for mentoring me and — you know — sticking with me,” Dunn said after practice. “I love y’all boys. Shout out BIA. Go Bucks!”

Dunn has been a little slower to catch on, but it looks like he’s starting to recognize what it takes to wear the scarlet and gray. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. There’s no doubt he has the talent.

Boom! Ohio State lands four-star athlete for 2021 class

The Ohio State football program landed yet another blue-chip recruit with the verbal commitment of four-star athlete Jantzen Dunn.

The Ohio State football program got yet another big-time commitment Monday with the verbal commitment of four-star athlete Jantzen Dunn out of Bowling Green, KY.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind from Saturday through today. Many felt the 6-foot. 2-inch, 178-pounder would end up at Oklahoma, but that all changed quickly when Ohio State offered. Instead of committing to the Sooners this weekend, the nation’s No. 15 rated athlete in the class of 2021 according to 247Sports tweeted that big news was coming soon.

Then, Sooner insiders began to speculate that the tide was turning towards Ohio State. It now appears that’s exactly what has happened.

Though Dunn is listed as an athlete, he is thought to be a fit at defensive back for the Buckeyes. It is now the 17th verbal commitment already for the 2021 class for Ohio State — one that is continuing the momentum it gained since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recruiting fire just keeps burning brighter in Columbus.

Is Ohio State about ready to get another top recruit for the 2021 class?

If rumors and sources are correct, Ohio State could be on the verge of landing another four-star commit in DB/athlete prospect Jantzen Dunn.

Ohio State’s recruiting has been on fire, even during a pandemic and a dead period. It makes things more difficult to evaluate and get kids on campus, but it hasn’t seemed to slow down the OSU prospects from rolling in. In fact, There have been a whopping six recruiting wins since the world got turned upside down with the COVID-19 pandemic — all but one of those were a four or five star verbal.

Now, it appears the Buckeyes may be on the verge of another four-star verbal commitment, at least if you read the Buckeye leaves out there. At 6-foot, 2-inches, and 178 pounds, Jantzen Dunn is an elite defensive-back prospect that was considered a heavy Oklahoma lean.

But Saturday night, that all changed. Word began to spread that the Sooners may be close to landing a big commitment. It was assumed to be Dunn. Listed as the No. 15 athlete, and a top 250 recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, many felt the inevitable was about to happen.

But then, Dunn threw out a Tweet that didn’t end in a commitment, just more intrigue.

Word began to circulate that Ohio State might now be the leader for the prospect out of Bowling Green, KY. In fact, all eight 247Sports Crystal Ball projections now have him landing at Ohio State.

You never know what’s going on behind the scenes in the cutthroat world of big-time college football recruiting, but this is one to watch. I’d expect to hear a commitment soon from Dunn, and it might just be another one in the Scarlet and Gray column.

We will stay on top of the situation.
