Report: Wisconsin in heavy pursuit of former Duke guard, top 2022 recruit

Greg Gard is out working to replace the losses of Hepburn, Storr and Wahl

Wisconsin basketball is in heavy pursuit of former Duke guard Jaden Schutt, according to 247Sports’ Evan Flood.

Wisconsin is among the programs Schutt is ‘hearing the most from’ at this stage of his recruitment along with Butler, Creighton, Dayton, Davidson, DePaul, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, St. Louis, St. Mary’s, UCF and Virginia Tech.

Schutt entered the transfer portal earlier this week after two years at Duke. The 6’5″ shooting guard averaged 2.1 points in 6.9 minutes per game as a freshman in 2022-23. He then was forced to redshirt in 2023-24 after suffering an injury in the fall.

Wisconsin originally offered the former four-star recruit coming out of high school during the 2022 cycle. He was 247Sports’ No. 75 recruit in the class, No. 6 shooting guard and No. 2 recruit from his home state of Illinois.

Wisconsin has gaping holes to fill in its starting lineup after the departures of Chucky Hepburn, Tyler Wahl and A.J. Storr. Schutt would bring the potential of a dominant wing presence for years to come.

Report: Wisconsin basketball in pursuit of former Duke transfer guard Jaden Schutt

Wisconsin basketball in pursuit of former Duke guard Jaden Schutt

Wisconsin basketball is among the programs to have reached out to Duke transfer guard Jaden Schutt, according to 247Sports’ Evan Flood.

Schutt entered the portal on April 15 after two years with the Blue Devils. The 6’5″ shooting guard averaged 2.1 points in 6.9 minutes per game as a freshman in 2022-23. He redshirted in 2023-24 after suffering an injury in the fall.

Wisconsin is on the list of schools that have expressed interest in the Duke transfer along with other top programs including Iowa, Michigan and Xavier.

There is a prior connection here, as the Badgers offered the former four-star recruit during the class of 2022 recruiting cycle. Schutt was 247Sports’ No. 75 overall recruit in the class and No. 6 shooting guard, so there remains a ton of untapped potential there.

Wisconsin is in need to a dominant wing player after the departure of A.J. Storr. Schutt would be a wild card given his lack of experience. But so was Storr after only one season at St. John’s, and that worked out well for the Badgers.

Former four-star recruit with ties to Wisconsin basketball enters transfer portal

Former four-star recruit with ties to Wisconsin basketball enters transfer portal

Former four-star recruit and Duke Blue Devil Jaden Schutt entered the transfer portal on Monday.

The Badgers were in on Schutt during his high school process. Greg Gard’s program offered him on July 30, 2020.

The Yorkville, Illinois native was ranked No. 78 nationally coming out of high school and landed as the No. 8 shooting guard in the class of 2022. Eighteen schools offered him during the process, including Illinois, Michigan State, Marquette, Florida, Xavier, Iowa and Wisconsin.

During his senior year at Yorkville Christian High School, Schutt captained the Mustangs to the Class 1A state title in 2021-22 and earned 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year honors in Illinois. Schutt also averaged a stellar 24.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game off 52% from the floor and 39% from deep.

The shooting guard averaged 2.1 points in 14 appearances as a freshman at Duke and even laced up for eight minutes of the team’s ACC Tournament quarterfinal game vs. Pittsburgh in 2023. He then exercised his redshirt season in 2023-24 after his sophomore campaign was cut short due to a left knee injury.

With guard A.J. Storr in the transfer portal, Wisconsin could certainly utilize a lengthy marksman to bolster its wing play. Schutt has previous ties to the program and could provide a much-needed boost.

Sophomore guard Jaden Schutt intends to transfer from Duke

Redshirt sophomore Jaden Schutt becomes the third Duke player to enter transfer portal.

Following a trend of Duke players who were in reserve roles or didn’t play at all, sophomore Jaden Schutt has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and find a new school to play for.

On3’s Joe Tipton first reported the news on Monday afternoon.

Schutt becomes another member of Jon Scheyer’s first recruiting class to enter the portal after Mark Mitchell and Christian Reeves also announced they would leave the program.

Schutt, a former four-star recruit from Jon Scheyer’s home state of Illinois and part of Scheyer’s inaugural seven-deep recruiting class in 2022, saw limited action for the Blue Devils in his time.

This past season was supposed to be a breakthrough moment for the esteemed sharpshooter, but injuries again derailed him. After Duke’s opening game this season, Scheyer confirmed that Schutt would redshirt and sit out the rest of the year.

With Schutt entering the transfer portal, Duke will have yet another scholarship available to try and fill via the transfer portal. With Jared McCain headed to the NBA draft, Duke will be in the portal for a veteran sharpshooter.

Iowa reportedly set to square off against Duke in the 2022 Jimmy V Classic

Iowa will meet the Duke Blue Devils in the 2022 Jimmy V Classic. Here’s a look at the all-time series history and Duke’s projected starters.

The start of Iowa’s 2022-23 men’s basketball season is still every bit of five months away. Still, the Hawkeyes just received fantastic news with the return of forward Kris Murray to Iowa City.

Paired with several other decisions by Iowa players to either return or exit via the transfer portal, fans now have a pretty clear idea of what the Hawkeyes’ starting five and key reserves will look like entering next season.

Now, Iowa fans know they can book flights and start planning a trip to New York City for a battle against a blue blood.

CBS Sports and College Hoops Today’s Jon Rothstein reported that Iowa is set to meet the Duke Blue Devils in the 2022 Jimmy V Classic from historic Madison Square Garden. Rothstein also reported that the other game in the event is expected to feature the Texas Longhorns against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Duke is one of the pillar programs in all of college basketball and will enter next season fresh off the Blue Devils’ 17th all-time appearance in the Final Four. Of course, legendary head coach Mike Krzyewski’s 13th and final Final Four appearance ended with the Blue Devils’ archrivals in the North Carolina Tar Heels sending Duke packing, 81-77.

The Kansas Jayhawks would go on to win the national championship over North Carolina, erasing a 16-point deficit in a historic second-half flurry for the largest title game comeback in NCAA Tournament history, topping the Tar Heels, 72-69.

In its history, Iowa has met up with Duke on eight different occasions. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 7-1. The Hawkeyes and Blue Devils last played on Nov. 27, 2001, in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. It was not to be from the jump for an Iowa team led by guard Luke Recker and forward Reggie Evans.

Duke point guard Jason Williams scored 25 points, center Carlos Boozer added 22 and forward Mike Dunleavy chipped in with 18. The then-No. 1 and defending national champion Blue Devils routed Iowa, 80-62, inside the United Center.

Duke is set to replace some serious star power from last season’s Final Four team, but the Blue Devils have reloaded their roster with some serious talent. Here’s a look at the all-time series matchups between Iowa and Duke and a look at the Blue Devils’ projected starting five.

Michigan State basketball: Recruiting Big Board

Take a look at Michigan State basketball’s 2022 recruiting big board

The 2022 recruiting cycle is in full swing, summer basketball tournaments are going on all over the country and the MSU coaching staff is on the road trying to build the next class of Spartans.

There was a time where MSU had both Emoni Bates and Enoch Boakye as a part of the 2022 recruiting class. But now, both have decommitted, Bates likely going pro and Boakye reclassifying to 2021 and heading to Arizona State.

The Spartans are now left with an empty recruiting class, but that wont be for long.

Tentatively, there are five open scholarships after this year, but Joey Hauser, Gabe Brown, and Marcus Bingham may have the option for one more additional season. So we should expect anywhere from 2 to 5 additions in this class.

Let’s take a look at who MSU is targeting in the 2022 recruiting class:

The AAU basketball season is in full swing, and it is now the perfect opportunity for many college coaches to get out and start scouting. Tom Izzo has done exactly that, making recruiting a priority this month of July.

Michigan State will look to fill out their 2022 recruiting class very soon, as well as getting a start on the very important 2023 class.

After a year without scouting, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coaches have a lot of work to make up ground when it comes to scouting.

Michigan State reportedly in contact with 2022 4-star SG Jaden Schutt

Michigan State is reportedly one of many big-time programs in contact with four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt of Yorkville, Ill.

Michigan State is reportedly one of many big-time programs in contact with four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt of Yorkville, Ill.

According to Endless Motor Sports, Schutt — who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 175 pounds — has been hearing from a number of power programs, including Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Oregon, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Drake and Dayton.

Michigan State offered Schutt back in June of 2020 and is clearly one of the top priorities for the Spartans in the class of 2022.

The Spartans currently only have one commit in the 2022 class — highly-touted small forward Emoni Bates. With just Bates, Michigan State already has the No. 3 overall class in the country so adding a sharp-shooter like Schutt would be just another great addition to the class.

Michigan State Basketball, Tom Izzo meet with 2022 4-star SG Jaden Schutt

Tom Izzo met with the 4-star shooting guard out of Illinois in a virtual meeting on Sunday.

[jwplayer wLZ8OZt0]

Three months ago, Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Men’s Basketball program extended an offer to 2022 4-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt. Since then, Izzo has kept in ‘contant contact’ with the young Illinois high school star. On Sunday, Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers reported that Izzo had another virtual meeting with Weingarten.

Weingarten also reported that Schutt had also met last week with Illinois.

Schutt is the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Illinois for 2022 according to the 247Sports composite rankings so Illinois will presumably have the upper hand in his recruitment. Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio State are also heavily recruiting the talented wing out of Yorkville High School.
