Way-too-early 2024 Heisman odds: Quinn Ewers opens as favorite to win

Quinn Ewers leads the way as the early favorite to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

As the 2023 season comes to a close, betting odds for the 2024 Heisman Trophy have been released. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is the early favorite to take home the award. Continue reading “Way-too-early 2024 Heisman odds: Quinn Ewers opens as favorite to win”

The Heisman never should have been this close

Jayden Daniels is going to win the Heisman, but it never should have been this close.

The battle for the Heisman was a two-horse race down the stretch.

Caleb Williams began the year as the favorite, before giving way to Michael Penix Jr., who remained the front-runner through October.

Then Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy had his brief moment, but over the last month, the debate narrowed in on [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and Bo Nix.

Daniels and Nix rank first and second in nearly every key passing stat. Daniels leads the country in ESPN’s QBR and PFF grade, with Nix sitting second. The same could be said for passer rating and total touchdowns.

Both rank top 10 in yards per attempt and completion percentage, while combining for just seven picks over 762 attempts.

But Nix and Oregon remained in playoff contention, while Daniels and LSU picked up their third loss the first week of November.

Oregon’s success as a team kept Nix atop the odds board for a while, while Daniels’ name faded after leaving the Alabama loss in concussion protocol.

Nix entered conference championship weekend as the favorite. He would get his chance to lead Oregon to a Pac-12 title and playoff appearance while Daniels sat at home.

That’s not how it went. The Oregon offense got off to a slow start and Nix had a few rough series. Throughout the night, Daniels’ stock took off, shooting up the odds board. And when the dust had settled, Daniels was the heavy favorite, now -1400 to take the award home.

But it never should have been this close. It never should have come down to Oregon winning or losing on championship weekend. This was always Daniels’ award.

If the Heisman is about the most outstanding player, there was never another case. It’s fine if a voter wants to use team success as a measure on their ballot, but if that’s the case, then let’s not pretend it’s an individual award.

Daniels was far and away the most outstanding player in the sport. His national lead in yards per attempt is over a yard more than the next guy. The difference between Daniels’ and Nix’s PFF grade at one and two is the same difference that separates Nix and Williams at two and 15. His QBR is the second-best ever tracked by ESPN.

By this point, you’ve heard all the numbers. You’ve seen him play. Daniels didn’t need a Heisman moment on the national stage to win this thing, because he was good enough week in and week out to produce at a level rarely seen in the history of this sport.

It’s looking like Daniels is going to win this thing, but it never should have come down to the result of the Pac-12 title. It never should have been this close.

Jayden Daniels becomes Heisman frontrunner after Bo Nix, Oregon lose to Washington

Jayden Daniels has become the sizable favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

There’s a new favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

After Oregon lost to Washington 34-31 in the Pac-12 Championship on Friday night, [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] surpassed Bo Nix to become the odds-on favorite to win the sport’s most prestigious award, according to BetMGM.

The game was an instant classic with the Ducks erasing a 20-3 deficit, but it wasn’t the best game for Nix. He’s been hyperefficient this season, but he completed just 21 of 34 passes for 239 yards. He did have three passing touchdowns and added 69 yards on the ground, but he also had an ugly and costly interception.

Daniels is now a significant favorite to win the award, sitting at -750. Nix fell down all the way to +700, with the winning quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. now sitting tied with him at the same odds. There’s a big gap after that between Penix and Jalen Milroe, who sits in fourth at +1000.

We’ll have to wait until Saturday to see what the voters ultimately decide, but everything is lining up for Daniels to become LSU’s second Heisman-winning quarterback in five years.

Latest Heisman odds show a two-man race between Jayden Daniels, Oregon’s Bo Nix

The Heisman race is coming down to the wire with one week left in the regular season.

For a while, it looked like the Heisman Trophy would be Michael Penix Jr.’s to lose.

Penix remains in the mix, but with one week remaining in the regular season, the latest Heisman odds from BetMGM show a two-man race between LSU’s [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and Oregon’s Bo Nix.

Both of them are coming off huge games with Daniels totaling eight touchdowns and Nix accumulating six. Nix remains the slight favorite at +110, but Daniels is creeping up on him at +140. Penix sits at +500 with a massive gap between him and Marvin Harrison Jr. at +3000.

Daniels is currently slightly outpacing Nix statistically, but Nix has the benefit of quarterbacking a team in the College Football Playoff hunt and, with a win on Saturday over Oregon State, will have an extra game to pad his stats.

How Jayden Daniels’ stats measure up against Oregon’s Bo Nix

Here’s how Heisman frontrunners Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix compare in some key areas.

[autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and Bo Nix are separating from the pack.

At BetMGM, Nix remains the Heisman favorite at +110 with Daniels sitting at +140. Both are well in front of Michael Penix, polling in third at +500.

Daniels and Nix have followed similar career paths. Both started as true freshmen in 2019, Daniels at Arizona State and Nix at Auburn.

But both transferred after three years, looking for a fresh start. Now they’re the two most productive quarterbacks in the sport as they vie for college football’s most coveted award.

Here’s how their stats stack up with one week left in LSU’s regular season.

Big Ten football Heisman odds tracker after Week 11. Where is Marvin Harrison Jr., others?

Can any of these Big Ten players make it to New York and potentially win the #Heisman? #B1G

It’s the most prestigious individual award in all of American sports, and nothing compares. The Heisman Trophy has a lore and mystique about it unmatched with other statues and trophies. So much so that you can find articles about Heisman favorites, dark horses, and more almost year-round.

Here at Buckeyes Wire, we try to track what’s going on because Ohio State usually has a player or two that is on the shortlist of players that could very well win the bronze statue on almost a yearly basis. And yeah, it’s no different this season with “Marvelous” Marvin Harrison, Jr. starting to rise up the Heisman odds.

But he’s not the only player in the Big Ten that might have a say in this thing. Spoiler; Ohio State and Michigan have all four players currently on the books. We’re here to tell you how things are going in the heartland, and soon to be the coast-to-coast conference.

Here is how Harrison Jr. and other Big Ten colleagues are tracking in the Heisman odds according to BetMGM after Week 11 of the 2023 college football season. We start from the player that’s barely on the radar to most likely to make his way to New York.

Bo Nix Heisman Trophy odds skyrocket after win over Colorado Buffs

Bo Nix had a big stage, and he took advantage of it. The Oregon QB’s Heisman odds have improved dramatically following the Ducks’ win over Colorado.

We knew the Oregon Ducks were going to have a big opportunity last weekend with a national audience tuning in to their marquee matchup with the Colorado Buffaloes on ABC.

In particular, quarterback Bo Nix could do the most with the opportunity: A good performance would move him up in the Heisman Trophy race.

That’s just what Nix did, throwing for 276 yards with 4 total touchdowns in a 42-6 win in front of an audience of 10.03 million viewers. Unsurprisingly, Nix’s Heisman odds improved drastically.

While we have four weeks behind us, and another eight to go, it feels like a good time to take a look at the latest Heisman odds as we get deeper into conference play across the nation.

Here are the latest numbers, per FanDuel:

2022 Heisman finalists (Stetson Bennett, really?): Here’s who should win CFB’s top individual prize

Not a quarterback award, huh?

We now know the four Heisman Trophy finalists who will travel to New York City next weekend with hopes of receiving the most prestigious individual award in college football.

The Heisman has been criticized for having a bias toward quarterbacks, and this year’s group certainly does nothing to dissuade those aspersions. All four of this year’s finalists are signal-callers: USC’s Caleb Williams, Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, TCU’s Max Duggan and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett.

As you’ll soon see, one of these is not quite like the others. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Here’s a recap of how each of these four got here (with their odds to win the award).

All odds and ends via BetMGM.

Last year at this time we still didn’t really know who the Heisman finalists were, much less the possible winner.

Alabama QB Bryce Young put together a drive for the ages to get by Auburn, but whatever – his candidacy was about to run into a hard wall with Georgia coming up next.

And then he threw for 421 yards and three touchdowns in the 41-24 SEC Championship win. That made it easy, and it’s simple this year, too, unless Caleb Williams has a disastrous day against Utah in the Pac-12 Championship.

Full disclosure, I’m a Heisman voter and can’t reveal my vote, preferences, or potential ideas for my ballot under penalty of death, or something far, far worse – like being forced to watch some sort of country music holiday special. With that said …

Can anyone provide any sort of a challenge to Williams?

The USC star did what he had to against Notre Dame, taking the Carson Palmer 2002 Heisman playbook and stepping up when the world was watching. However, Palmer didn’t have to play in a Pac-12 Championship with a College Football Playoff spot on the line.

There might be an opportunity for someone other than Williams to take the cheese with one monster performance this weekend.

Here are the five top realistic candidates for the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Player(s) of Week 13

RB Donovan Edwards & QB JJ McCarthy, Michigan
But … but … Blake Corum?

After a week of speculation about whether or not Corum could play against Ohio State, he only ran twice for six yards. Edwards stepped up behind a great day from the Michigan offensive line, running 22 times for 216 yards and two scores. McCarthy ran six times for 27 yard and a score, and he hit half his passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns without a pick in the shocking 45-23 win.

5 Other Players On The Heisman Watch List

Reality check – if you’re not playing this weekend in one of the conference championship games, you’re not winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

You might be a finalist, but it’s going to take something amazing just to be close to the pin if you’re not doing something Heismaney with everyone paying attention.

Next week will be the list of finalists, and again, a few of these guys could be on it. None of them will win the trophy, though.

In alphabetical order …

QB Hendon Hooker, Tennessee
QB Drake Maye, North Carolina
QB Bo Nix, Oregon
RB Bijan Robinson, Texas
QB Bryce Young, Alabama

5. RB Blake Corum, Michigan

Unstoppable throughout the regular season, he wasn’t needed much in the first three games – he still managed to crank up five touchdown runs against UConn. Once the lights came on, he was fantastic averaging close to six yards per carry with 18 scores before suffering a knee injury late in the year against Illinois. He ran for 108 yards against the Illini as part of a run of eight straight 100-yard days.

Why Blake Corum Will Win the Heisman: He was the signature star for what’s turning into the signature team of the college football regular season. Seriously, Georgia was fun and all, but does it have wins as good as Michigan has over Ohio State and Penn State?

Why Blake Corum Won’t Win the Heisman: Shhhhhhh. You’re not supposed to say this out loud, but … 1) Blake Corum isn’t the best running back in college football – Bijan Robinson probably is. 2) Blake Corum isn’t the best running back in the Big Ten. He’s not even in the top two – Minnesota’s Mohamed Ibrahim and Chase Brown of Illinois had better seasons.

All that, and he – TOTALLY unfair, but it’s part of the Heisman deal – didn’t do much against Ohio State, and he’s hardly a lock to be a big factor in the Big Ten Championship with his knee injury still a concern.

Hendon Hooker’s time atop the the Heisman odds leaderboard has already ended. A week after dethroning Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, the Tennessee quarterback has swapped places with the Buckeyes’ star once again.

And all it took was an absolute mauling at the hands of Georgia’s defense to make it happen.

Hooker’s Heisman campaign is far from over, but we said last-week the No. 1 Tennessee vs. No. 3 Georgia matchup was a resume-building moment for the Vols’ leader. Now he’s going to have to make up for the 27-13 loss.

Here’s how the leaderboard looks after Week 10.
