Chiefs legend Dante Hall shares advice for Kansas City as playoffs loom

Dante Hall shared his advice for the #Chiefs after Kansas City’s brutal loss to the #Raiders on Christmas day.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in dire straits as the 2023 regular season draws to a close. An identity crisis has gummed up the works for the team’s offense, and even while their defense has played exceptional football in recent weeks, it seems nothing can go right for the defending Super Bowl champions.

Chiefs legend Dante Hall made an appearance on Good Morning Football this week and offered some advice to Kansas City’s players as the playoffs draw ever closer.

Even while the Chiefs haven’t yet clinched their spot in the postseason, Hall suggested that the team get back to basics and stay positive amid their most recent trials and tribulations.

Check out Hall’s take on Kansas City’s situation below:

While fans are free to agree or disagree with the legendary returner’s assessment of Kansas City’s situation, one thing is clear: The 2023 Chiefs would be in a much better position if Patrick Mahomes had Hall to throw the ball to in the passing game.

Peter Schrager says Russell Wilson and the Broncos are officially back

“Russ is back, baby!” NFL Network’s Peter Schrager says Russell Wilson and the Broncos are officially back.

Are the Denver Broncos back? Very possible. Now, what about Russell Wilson? It sure looks like it, and according to NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, he thinks new Broncos head coach Sean Payton has officially fixed Wilson’s issues. After a disastrous 1-5 start, Wilson has spearheaded Denver on a four-game winning streak, including a come-from-behind 21-20 victory against the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday night.

In those four wins, Wilson‘s play elevated the Broncos to victories over perennial playoff teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills to go along with defeating the Vikings. In the winning streak, Wilson has thrown for 760 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions on a 73 percent pass completion. Schrager commended Wilson’s ability to become consistent again as a way that indicates that he is “back.”

Is Russell Wilson back to his Seattle form? Only you can decide that. But what is objective is that his stats indicate that his 19 passing touchdowns have him tied for third place in the NFL. That shows he’s perhaps ready to lead the Broncos on a playoff push.

Minnesota Vikings continue to foster more belief

The Minnesota Vikings’ surprise victory against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday continues to foster more belief

The analysts on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football surveyed the NFC playoff picture on their show today. Holding the seventh spot firmly, lie the Minnesota Vikings at 5-4. Peter Schrager did not hold back his thoughts on the Vikings and his belief in what Minnesota is doing now.

Schrager discussed Josh Dobbs’ meeting Zygi Wilf, the team’s chairman, in the locker room to further cement Dobbs’ lack of familiarity with the team before leading them to a 31-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Schrager then lists the next three games for the Vikings (vs. New Orleans, at Denver and vs. Chicago) before the bye week and illustrates how all three are winnable games.

Schrager illustrates that Minnesota could go into the bye week 8-4 and be firmly in the playoff race, maybe even the NFC North division race.

He ends the segment stating how masterful the job is for Kevin O’Connell, stating how he should be in the Coach of the Year race if this team makes the playoffs. Illustrating how this team was essentially left for dead after a 0-3 start, after losing Justin Jefferson and Cousins, but is still finding ways to win football games.

Schrager is a firm believer in what’s going on in Minnesota.

NFL Network’s Good Morning Football cast dons creamsicle Bucs jerseys

It was “Throwback Thursday” on Good Morning Football, and the crew were given some Bucs creamsicle jerseys to wear during the show.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are wearing their “creamsicle” throwback jerseys against the Lions on Sunday, and the crew at NFL Network’s Good Morning Football got into the spirit on Thursday.

The GMFB crew were gifted creamsicle jerseys for a “Throwback Thursday” theme, with each of the four hosts wearing an orange Bucs jersey of players on the team in 2023. Peter Schrager wore Vita Vea’s No. 50, Kyle Brandt wore Baker Mayfield’s No. 6, Colleen Wolfe wore Rachaad White’s No. 1 and former NFL defensive back Jason McCourty wore Antoine Winfield Jr.’s No. 31 jersey. The show also did a Tampa Bay Buccaneers trivia section of the show, asking the hosts questions about the creamsicle era of Bucs football.

The team hasn’t worn its throwback jerseys since 2012, with current Bucs player Lavonte David being the only member of the team to have worn them at one point. The uniforms are making a return on Sunday when the team faces off against the Detroit Lions in an old NFC Central matchup at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.

What if the Commanders beat the Bills?

This is one of the more fascinating Week 3 matchups for a variety of reasons.

What if the Washington Commanders beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday?

On Thursday’s edition of “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network, the four hosts discussed what that would mean.

First, Peter Schrager was fascinated by Washington’s top coaching trio of head coach Ron Rivera, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.

“If they beat the Bills, we got this real interesting dynamic amongst those three men who are coaching this team,” Schrager said.

For former NFL defensive back Jason McCourty, it was all about quarterback Sam Howell.

“I would just be fired up to see what the headlines are that surrounds Sam Howell,” McCourty said. “Because you type his name into Google, into X, whatever you want, and everybody is just praising this kid.

McCourty likes what he’s seen from Howell but says let’s see what happens this week.

“There is so much praise for him; at the same time, the Buffalo Bills may go out there and look like they did last week, too. So, let’s slow down. I love the Commanders’ talk. It’s a lot of fun, but let’s see what happens this week.”

Kyle Brandt loves the possibility of Washington going 3-0.

“If the Commanders beat the Buffalo Bills, they are the biggest and freshest story in the NFL,” Brandt said. “The Commanders, though, that would be wildly unpredictable. They’d beat a super-quality opponent who just waxed the Raiders. And we know this about [OC] Eric Bieniemy. He is not afraid of the Buffalo Bills. He’s not afraid to hang 30 on them. He’s not afraid to go up and down the field at will like that. He’s done it before.”

Jamie Erdahl also weighed in, expressing her excitement for this game.

“It’s cool that Sam Howell led his team on two game-winning drives to start the season,” she said. “But that was against the Cardinals and Broncos. You are letting those teams hang around with you. If you want to be a shut-the-door team, you got to be able to get up on a team and maintain them and keep them a stiff arms-length away. You can’t just be neck-and-neck and just constantly rely on your guy to have game-winning drives. So if the Commanders are going to beat them, it might be neck and neck, but you have to be able to put a team away. And if you can’t do it at home, then it’s going to be hard to do it against anybody.”

Every anchor had a reasonable take on this game. Erdahl’s take resonated the most because she’s right. Washington needs to put away a team, especially at home, if it wants to be taken seriously.

One thing everyone can agree on, this is a fascinating matchup.

WATCH: Bills’ coach Sean McDermott shows GMFB his kettlebell workout

WATCH: #Bills’ coach Sean McDermott shows GMFB his kettlebell workout:

Buffalo Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott is definitely one of the more in-shape coaches on the sidelines in the NFL.

NFL Network’s Good Morning Football host Kyle Brandt has noticed and spoken about it in the past. Recently, Brandt asked McDermott about the famous driveway workouts and the Bills’ coach gave some live reps mid-interview.

Check out how that went down in the clip below:

McDermott definitely has heard that sitting is the new smoking.

Brandt referred to the offseason ranking of fittest coaches in the leagues, pointing out AFC East rival New York Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh was ranked No. 1 and asked the Bills coach if he wanted to test that ranking in between McDermott’s sets. The Bills coach continued with his reps on the other arm.

We look forward to analyzing who looks better between the two coaches on Monday Night Football, when the Buffalo Bills visit the New York Jets in Week 1 of the NFL season.

Former NFL defensive back predicts Emmanuel Forbes as defensive rookie of the year

Another pick is in for Forbes as the defensive rookie of the year.

Jason McCourty spent 13 seasons as an NFL player, most notably with the Tennessee Titans, where he spent the first eight years of his career. McCourty won a Super Bowl and is often remembered for playing alongside his twin brother Devin with the New England Patriots for three seasons.

McCourty retired after the 2021 season; he didn’t waste any time going into the media world. In 2022, McCourty landed with “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network.

In preparation for the 2023 NFL season this week, the four hosts of “Good Morning Football” are making their predictions for the new season.

On Monday, the topic was NFL defensive rookie of the year. McCourty’s choice: Washington Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes.

The No. 16 overall pick from Mississippi State had a standout college career, finishing with 14 interceptions across three seasons, returning six four touchdowns — an FBS record.

Others have also chosen Forbes as the pick for NFL defensive rookie of the year. Forbes said over the weekend that as far as individual goals go, that’s a goal for him in 2023.

McCourty was the only one of the hosts to go with a defensive back.

Brian Burns named to GMFB’s all-underrated team

Panthers OLB Brian Burns headlined the Good Morning Football crew’s all-underrated defense.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

This past week, the panel over at Good Morning Football put the finishing touches on their all-underrated squad. To start their defense, reporter and host Sara Walsh selected outside linebacker Brian Burns—who was also part of an underrated unit.

“This Carolina defense—I’m not sure gets as much respect, as a whole, as what they deserve,” Walsh said. “They were quietly one of the better defenses in the league, and I think that there was so much turmoil going on down at the Panthers—with the coaching changes, the quarterback changes, Christian McCaffrey shipped out of town—and it was really the defense.

“And Steve Wilks was leading that defense and we almost thought he was gonna be the head coach there for a while. And so huge credit to Wilks, but Burns is part of this young core of guys that do a lot of great work down there.”

Burns did his best work in 2022. The two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher posted career-highs in sacks (12.5), tackles (63), tackles for a loss (17), quarterback hits (22) and pressures (68).

Walsh continued.

“And they’re talkin’ about building something special there in Carolina,” she added. “And Burns is one of these guys you build your team around. He’s been a tremendous player. I don’t think he gets talked about enough.”

The organization obviously feels the same way about Burns—who, according to Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, was presented with an offer of a contract extension this offseason. So, with the sides likely hoping to get a deal done before training camp, he may only have a few more days to be underrated.

Good Morning Football predicts Panthers as a surprise team to make 2023 NFL Playoffs

Can rookie QB Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers sneak into the playoffs in 2023?

Every player in the NFL has their eyes set on a Super Bowl, especially a guy who has won a Heisman Trophy and played for a National Championship. But the first step to getting there is to win your division. The NFC South is wide open and [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] and his Carolina Panthers will be on the prowl to win the division and qualify for the 2023 NFL Playoffs.

From day one, the former Alabama quarterback has a chance to be the best starting quarterback in the division. The Buccaneers are replacing legend and seven-time Super Bowl Champion, Tom Brady, with a struggling Baker Mayfield, who was actually with the Panthers for most of 2022. The Saints brought in Derek Carr this offseason who is a quality quarterback, but they have struggled to ever fill the void of Brew Brees’s retirement after the 2020 season. Similar to the Saints, the Falcons struggled at the quarterback position last season after trading away long-time starter and Atlanta legend, Matt Ryan.

The Panthers probably have the best head coach in the division heading into the season as well, Frank Reich. It is Reich’s first year with the franchise, but it is a massive upgrade from Matt Rhule a year ago. Reich was the head coach of the Colts for five years and he led them to a 40-33-1 record and two playoff appearances. However, Reich is much better than those numbers indicate. When Reich took over Indianapolis in 2018, outside of Andrew Luck, the roster was a mess, yet he still led them to a 10-6 record and an AFC Divisional Game appearance.

After the 2018 season, Luck shockingly retired in his prime and sent the Colts franchise into a tailspin. Over the next four seasons he had four different starting quarterbacks and just wasn’t given a fair shake, but he still managed to have a winning record every year but one. After a 3-5-1 start to the season in 2022, the Colts fired Reich in a move that many people did not agree with. Reich is an outstanding coach, especially offensively, and with stability at the quarterback position he can be one of the best coaches in the league, certainly his division.

Falcons head coach, Arthur Smith, has finished 3rd and 4th in the NFC South during his two years in Atlanta with a 14-20 record. Dennis Allen of the Saints was first a head coach for the Raiders from 2012-2014 where he went 8-28. In his first year with New Orleans, he led them to a 7-10 record. Todd Bowles took over the reins in Tampa Bay last season after Super Bowl-winning head coach, Bruce Arians retired following the 2021 season. Bowles’s first stint was with the Jets where he went 24-40 from 2015-2018. In his first year with the Bucs, Bowles went 8-9. So, Reich certainly has a chance to take firm control over the division and win it for years to come.

Cameron Wolfe of Good Morning Football predicts also that the Panthers could be a playoff contender in 2023 saying, “When I talk to people in Carolina they say he (Young) does not act like a rookie. They said they are teaching him things that they teach quarterbacks in year two, year three… But, Thomas Brown, their offensive coordinator said ‘when you say ‘hike’ that dude is special. His ability to feel pressure within the pocket, his accuracy, the way he’s already taking hold of the locker room.'”
