Jason McCourty jokes on brother while discussing Patriots’ draft plans

Jason McCourty turned the Patriots’ draft situation into a hilarious joke on his brother Devin

Former New England Patriots corner and current NFL Network analyst Jason McCourty had a hilarious take on what the organization should do with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

The consensus by many is that the team should draft a quarterback, as the team prepares to build for the future. Others have suggested a playmaking wide receiver, such as Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.

Whatever the case may be, when appearing on “Good Morning Football” on Wednesday, McCourty joked about what the team should stay away from, while ribbing his brother, Devin McCourty, in the process.

The 2024 NFL draft is set to take place in a little less than a month. New England will need to make sure they hit on this entire draft, especially after failing to address several holes in free agency.

Jason McCourty ‘would be shocked’ if Giants draft a QB in Round 1

Jason McCourty “would be shocked” if the New York Giants selected a quarterback at No. 6 overall given their other glaring roster needs.

There have been plenty of rumors connecting the New York Giants to quarterbacks at the top of the 2024 NFL draft.

As that April date inches closer, the Giants-quarterback narrative has gained steam with every report of general manager Joe Schoen attending a Pro Day.

NFL Network’s Good Morning Football analyst and former defensive back, Jason McCourty, sees the Giants’ potential draft plans very differently from his point of view.

“I would be shocked if the Giants go quarterback at (No. 6) because . . . they have holes they need to fill. You talk about the offensive line and having a quarterback there that doesn’t have to run around for his life and feel like he has to make plays,” he said. “So, I look at it for the Giants, go that direction. You’ve committed to Daniel Jones, you’ve brought in Drew Lock, you’ve brought in Russell Wilson to have conversations with him. So we’ve seen them kind of flirt with it, they’ve gone through and evaluated these quarterbacks but you have another season in Daniel Jones.

“You believe in him in that first year under (Brian) Daboll and Joe Schoen and you saw some growth for him so move forward with this. I think build a team in place and a year from now, two years from now, if you’re in a position to go get a quarterback through free agency or the draft, you’ve now built a team around him to take over, similarly to what we’ll probably see from Caleb Williams at that number one pick for the Bears,

“For the New York Giants, continue to build those pieces around whoever the future quarterback’s going to be. . . . You have two guys in that room who can lead the team. So I think, for that reason, you go and you get another position that you think is a surefire to be a part of the franchise.”

The Giants’ roster is largely devoid of talent and they have several pressing personnel needs.

It does seem increasingly likely that the Giants would have to move up to get one of the top four quarterbacks and in terms of competition, they may not have the assets necessary to do that.

The most likely of non-quarterback scenarios does seem to be the Giants taking one of the top wide receivers but it easily could be an offensive lineman at six as well.

Jason McCourty sees big changes coming for Patriots after the season

Jason McCourty sees the Patriots blowing the roster up when the season is over.

A former New England Patriots player believes big changes are on the way. That player is former NFL cornerback Jason McCourty, who believes the Patriots will blow things up in the offseason.

McCourty was successful during his time with the Patriots. He won a Super Bowl and was part of the New England secondary for three seasons. Jason, along with his brother Devin McCourty, made up a dependable part of the New England secondary.

Those Super Bowl runs feel like a long time ago these days with the team struggling with a 2-8 record. Now, Jason believes New England will be starting over following the season.

There have already been rumors swirling that Belichick will not coach the Patriots after the season, as the team currently holds the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

McCourty elaborated on his stance on Wednesday’s episode of “Good Morning Football.”

“I do think in New England, they blow this thing up at the end of the season,” said McCourty. “Whatever coach they go with, whether it’s Jerod Mayo steps up and he takes over and he decides to blow this thing up. I do think, at this point, you have to figure out because, when you look at this roster, there’s not a ton of talent.”

The Patriots still have some season left to play. However, the winds of change are starting to blow.

Former NFL defensive back predicts Emmanuel Forbes as defensive rookie of the year

Another pick is in for Forbes as the defensive rookie of the year.

Jason McCourty spent 13 seasons as an NFL player, most notably with the Tennessee Titans, where he spent the first eight years of his career. McCourty won a Super Bowl and is often remembered for playing alongside his twin brother Devin with the New England Patriots for three seasons.

McCourty retired after the 2021 season; he didn’t waste any time going into the media world. In 2022, McCourty landed with “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network.

In preparation for the 2023 NFL season this week, the four hosts of “Good Morning Football” are making their predictions for the new season.

On Monday, the topic was NFL defensive rookie of the year. McCourty’s choice: Washington Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes.

The No. 16 overall pick from Mississippi State had a standout college career, finishing with 14 interceptions across three seasons, returning six four touchdowns — an FBS record.

Others have also chosen Forbes as the pick for NFL defensive rookie of the year. Forbes said over the weekend that as far as individual goals go, that’s a goal for him in 2023.

McCourty was the only one of the hosts to go with a defensive back.

Greg Schiano excited to have Rutgers football alum Jason McCourty calling the season opener

Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano talks about Jason McCourty getting the call for CBS.

Greg Schiano is embracing what is an unusual kickoff and timeslot for college football, the Rutgers football head coach is simply excited to see his program on the national stage. And with former player Jason McCourty on the call for CBS, it doesn’t get much better for Schiano.

Rutgers drew an impressive broadcast booth for Sunday’s season opener against Northwestern (12:00 PM, CBS).  Tom McCarthy (from New Jersey) and former Rutgers standout defensive back [autotag]Jason McCourty[/autotag] will be on the call from SHI Stadium.

(A possibly sold-out SHI Stadium, no less).

McCarthy, best known locally as the television voice of the Philadelphia Phillies, is a highly respected announcer. Adding McCourty in the mix, a former NFL veteran and a beloved Rutgers alum, makes for a perfect broadcast pairing according to Schiano.

“They’re both great people. I’m more concerned about playing in the game than who is calling it,” Schiano told reporters on Thursday.

“I love the fact that one of my players is on it. Not so much that he is on for our game, but that he is valued that way in that industry.

“I’m excited for him. Having a national venue and being the only game on at noon is good. Everybody who loves football is going to be watching it.”

Tiffany Blackmon will be on the sidelines for the game in what is the season opener for both programs.

Jason McCourty breaks down preseason debut of Packers rookie Carrington Valentine

Carrington Valentine’s preseason debut in Cincinnati was highlighted on “Good Morning Football.”

The debut of Green Bay Packers rookie Carrington Valentine during last week’s preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals caught the attention of a national crowd.

Valentine, a seventh-round pick out of Kentucky, broke up two passes and intercepted another pass off a deflection over 29 snaps (21 in coverage) against the Bengals. Per PFF, Valentine allowed only two receptions on six targets into his coverage. He also made a stop in the run game for no gain.

How good was Valentine in Cincinnati? Former NFL defensive back Jason McCourty spent time breaking down Valentine’s preseason debut on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” on Friday:

McCourty highlighted several different plays, complimenting Valentine’s eyes, finishing ability and physicality.

Can Valentine continue making plays on Saturday night when the Packers host the New England Patriots in the second preseason week? The seventh rounder made quite an impression in his debut, but every week is a new test for a rookie in the NFL.

CBS Sports Broadcasting crew for the season opener has a Rutgers football twist

Jason McCourty is going to be calling the first Rutgers football game on CBS Sports.

Jason McCourty’s first college football broadcast will be at the birthplace of his career. The former Rutgers football standout will get the nod for his alma mater’s season opener on CBS.

In an unusual – albeit brilliant – but still unusual twist, Rutgers opens the season on Sunday, September 3 at SHI Stadium. The timeslot was afforded to the Big Ten because the NFL doesn’t begin till the following week.

It makes the Northwestern at Rutgers game, already an intriguing one, essentially the only game in town at that time.

This will be the first season for the Big on CBS.

McCourty, a former Rutgers standout defensive back, spent 13 seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. He played for four teams, making 173 appearances (141 starts). He had 18 career interceptions and 744 total tackles in his career.

He will be on the call as the analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy.

Tiffany Blackmon, who has a well-earned reputation as a solid and thought-provoking interviewer, will be on the sidelines for the game.

McCourty brothers to reunite for Patriots’ preseason games

The McCourty brothers are giving Patriots fans an alternative way of viewing the preseason.

Former New England Patriots defensive backs Devin and Jason McCourty are going from the football field to the broadcast booth together to cover the Patriots’ preseason games.

They will host “The McCourty TwinCast” as an alternate way of watching the preseason. The show will be available on Patriots.com and WBZ.com.

Both brothers have had experience in media following their retirements. Devin most recently appeared on NBC’s pregame coverage of Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, Jason takes the morning shift, as one of the hosts of “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network. He also provides analysis for particular NFL broadcasts.

This will be an intriguing twist on the game, as both McCourty brothers played pivotal roles for New England during their time with the team. Devin retired this past March, after 14 seasons with the Patriots.

The debut for the program is slated to begin on Thursday, Aug. 10, when the Patriots face the Houston Texans in their preseason opener.

CBS Sports announces Week 1 broadcasting team for Saints vs. Titans

CBS Sports has already announced its Week 1 broadcasting team for the New Orleans Saints’ home opener with the Tennessee Titans, including a former Titans player:

Week 1 of the NFL regular season is only a month away, and CBS Sports is pulling out all the stops to get fans excited for the New Orleans Saints’ home opener with the Tennessee Titans. One team has Derrick Henry, DeAndre Hopkins, Tyjae Spears, and standout defenders like Jeffery Simmons and Kevin Byard. The other side boasts Chris Olave, Jamaal Williams, Michael Thomas, and Pro Bowl-quality defenders Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, and Marshon Lattimore. Not to mention a new starting quarterback in Derek Carr.

But we aren’t here to talk about them. CBS Sports is shining a light on their own team: the broadcasters who will be commentating on the game and reporting from the field. The network announced that Chris Lewis, Jason McCourty, Ross Tucker, and Amanda Guerra will work the Saints-Titans kickoff game on Sept. 10.

Lewis will call the matchup from the broadcast booth with McCourty sharing color commentary, while Tucker offers his own input as a game analyst. Guerra will be reporting from the sidelines. McCourty and Tucker are new additions — McCourty retired from the NFL after a 173-game career predominately spent with the Titans, though he won a Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots in 2018. Tucker is a former player too, and he’s spent most of two decades developing his media career as an analyst. They’re both likely to have some valuable input.

Still, do we really need this information more than a month out from kickoff? We’ll circle back in previewing Week 1’s games once, you know, we reach Week 1.
