Cam Newton reveals the 1 team he’d be willing to return for

Panthers great Cam Newton said there’s only one team that can coax him back into the NFL right now.

Cam Newton may be ready to dust off his Dirty Bird.

The Carolina Panthers great and former wide receiver Brandon Marshall both hopped on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Football. Marshall, Newton’s “I am ICONIC Live Tour” co-host, asked his buddy about his desire for a potential return to the gridiron—demanding a list of three teams he’d be willing to play for.

But Newton only gave him one . . .

Newton, an Atlanta, Ga. native, has clearly enjoyed settling back into his hometown roots. A huge part of that enjoyment has come in his life as a father, something he alluded to back in October.

“I have seven beautiful children that I love takin’ to football practice, tennis practice, cheerin’ practice and all that,” Newton said during an episode of RG3 and The Ones. To get me up out takin’ them on a day-to-day basis, takin’ them to school—those are some of the things that you have to consider. And if the call doesn’t happen, still cool. I’m still straight. I have businesses and things like that that can feed that monster.”

Well, it just so happens that his hometown really needs a quarterback. Oh, and it just so happens that he already has a history with Bill Belichick, the perceived favorite to land the Falcons’ head-coaching vacancy.

Hmmm . . .

Peter Schrager says Russell Wilson and the Broncos are officially back

“Russ is back, baby!” NFL Network’s Peter Schrager says Russell Wilson and the Broncos are officially back.

Are the Denver Broncos back? Very possible. Now, what about Russell Wilson? It sure looks like it, and according to NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, he thinks new Broncos head coach Sean Payton has officially fixed Wilson’s issues. After a disastrous 1-5 start, Wilson has spearheaded Denver on a four-game winning streak, including a come-from-behind 21-20 victory against the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday night.

In those four wins, Wilson‘s play elevated the Broncos to victories over perennial playoff teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills to go along with defeating the Vikings. In the winning streak, Wilson has thrown for 760 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions on a 73 percent pass completion. Schrager commended Wilson’s ability to become consistent again as a way that indicates that he is “back.”

Is Russell Wilson back to his Seattle form? Only you can decide that. But what is objective is that his stats indicate that his 19 passing touchdowns have him tied for third place in the NFL. That shows he’s perhaps ready to lead the Broncos on a playoff push.

Seahawks S Julian Love tells GMFB why DBs talk so much trash

If NFL wide receivers are competitive to the point of psychosis, defensive backs are on an entirely different level.

If NFL wide receivers are competitive to the point of psychosis, defensive backs are on an entirely different level.

This week we got yet another example of cornerbacks arguing with each other over who’s better, both in today’s league and back in the day. Darrelle Revis and Asante Samuel went at it on Twitter yesterday for a while, while it started as a debate over Tariq Woolen vs. Sauce Gardner in 2022. This is hardly unusual, though. As Eagles corner Darius Slay put it:

So, why are DBs so eager to talk trash? Seahawks safety Julian Love was asked that question on Good Morning Football. Here’s how he answered.

Dan Campbell gives a great line on why the Lions are playing the Chiefs in Week 1

Campbell gave a hilarious answer but followed it up with a serious one that his players need to hear

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

Lions head coach Dan Campbell is always a popular guest on the NFL talk shows. Campbell proved why once again on Friday morning in an appearance on the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program.

Campbell dropped in via teleconference to field questions about the Lions schedule, which was released in full on Thursday night. The head coach pulled out a great line (which is not family-friendly) on why the Lions were selected to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Week 1 season kickoff on Thursday, September 7th.

“Here’s my first thought, I’ll be totally honest with you as to why they would give us Kansas City (in the prime-time opener),” Campbell told host Jason McCourty. “Okay, you finished the year a certain way, but it also means they’re betting that we won’t get our ass kicked. You may get beat, but you won’t get your ass kicked.”

Campbell did get serious after the fun answer.

“I know there is interest and I know we are an intriguing team. You know, we made a run there at the end of the year. But the thing that can’t be lost, and our guys are not going to lose sight of it, is — we did just enough to mess up early in the season to not get in (the playoffs).

It’s an important perspective for a young Lions team opening on the road under the bright national lights against the defending Super Bowl champion.

Watch: GMFB on why the Seahawks are so popular in Germany

Here’s Good Morning Football telling the story of how the Seahawks became the most popular team in the country.

Aside from the season opener, the most memorable game of the 2022 season for the Seahawks was their Munich matchup with the Buccaneers. One of the coolest parts of that game was Seattle being a home-town favorite thousands of miles from home.

Here’s Good Morning Football telling the story of how the Seahawks became the most popular team in the country.

Panthers CB Jaycee Horn named breakout candidate for 2023 season

Former Super Bowl-winning defensive back Jason McCourty believes Jaycee Horn, with a bit of help from Bryce Young, can break out in 2023.

Not enough folks realize how good Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn really is. So, will his new quarterback help shine the spotlight on him?

Former safety and current member of the Good Morning Football crew Jason McCourty seems to think so. On Tuesday, the Super Bowl LIII champion stated Horn should be on the path to a breakout campaign in 2023, one that may be enhanced by the attention the Panthers will be getting under center.

“I think this is a guy who has an opportunity to showcase his talents,” McCourty said. “He’s extremely good, but he hasn’t been on the field a lot. Only 16 games in the last two seasons. He’ll get an opportunity with a lot more eyeballs in Carolina this year because of the edition of Bryce Young to that city and to that franchise.

“6-1, 200 pounds. This guy’s an absolute baller. He just needs to remain out there on the field and showcase what he can do. So I’m looking forward to watching Jaycee Horn in some primetime games this year matched up against some of your favorite No. 1 wide receivers in the league.”

Although he’s been limited by a handful of injuries over his two-year career, Horn has already done work against some of those No. 1’s. Here’s how a handful of big-name wideouts fared against Horn in 2022:

Targets Receptions Yards
Amari Cooper 3 2 8
Chris Olave 2 0 0
Marquise Brown 1 0 0
Deebo Samuel 2 0 0
DK Metcalf 6 3 49
Tyler Lockett 2 1 17

As long as he stays healthy, Horn will have a chance to add more marquee names to the list—including Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson, Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans, Dallas’ CeeDee Lamb, Miami’s Tyreek Hill and/or Jaylen Waddle, Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown and some fella from Chicago named DJ Moore.

What Doug Pederson told Jaguars players after Damar Hamlin’s collapse

“I want my players to understand that we’re here for them.”

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is reportedly still in critical condition after he suffered cardiac arrest on the field during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

That game was postponed as players on both teams were devastated by the sight of Hamlin being administered CPR on the field. But Bills and Bengals players weren’t the only ones who were affected by the scene Monday. Players across the NFL watched the situation unfold on national television.

On Wednesday morning, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson joined NFL Network’s GMFB to talk about how he addressed the incident with his team.

“Obviously for me, Monday night, watching it, coaching for me went away and I was thinking about Damar and his family, and I was thinking about the players on both sides on that field that night with the Bills and the Bengals,” Pederson said. “And then my attention quickly turned to my team and how was I going to handle … how was I going to prepare our football team, and what was I going to say?

“I want my players to understand that we’re here for them. … I was just honest with them. I was just sharing from my heart. I went through a situation with my brother a year ago — even though it’s different — but just seeing the struggle, seeing the mental anguish that the players kind of go through. You saw it Monday night with both teams.

“One of the messages I had the other day too, I don’t want our guys to harbor any kind of feelings. I want them to speak. I want them to be open. Situations like this and incidents like this really hit everybody a little bit differently and I don’t want the guys to keep that in.

“Because we are preparing for a football game and it’s the hardest thing to transition from life and things that are out of our control to transitioning to a football game and trying to get the focus of the room back on that. I thought our guys did a great job of being able to handle that.”

Pederson also said that the Jaguars are providing players with resources like psychologists and ministers in the wake of the incident.

Watch: GMFB on why Seahawks fans are ‘freaking everywhere’ in Germany

Watch Peter Schrager at NFL Network explain why Seattle fans are everywhere in Munich this weekend, which could translate to an extra home game this season.

The Seahawks are technically the road team for Sunday’s game in Germany against the Buccaneers. However, any well-traveled fanbase can tell you that being “home” on the schedule doesn’t necessarily give you home-field advantage.
