After joining the Buccaneers, Steve Kerr compared Tom Brady’s decision to Joe Montana and Michael Jordan

While the NBA is on hiatus, Steve Kerr weighed in on Tom Brady’s decision to leave the New England Patriots.

Over the past five years, most of Steve Kerr’s sports talk radio interviews during the stretch run of the NBA season consist of two topics —  the Golden State Warriors and their playoff position. In 2020, things are a bit different.

With 17 games left on the schedule, the NBA suspended the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. With no basketball and nearly every sport on hold because of COVID-19, Kerr was recently asked about Tom Brady.

After winning a bevy of Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, the 42-year-old quarterback is leaving for Florida. Brady signed a two-year free-agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On 95.7 The Game in San Francisco with Damon Bruce, Matt Kolsky and Ray Ratto, Kerr weighed in on Brady’s decision to leave the city where he spent 20 seasons.

Well, it reminds me of Joe Montana. Similar story when Joe went to Kansas City and a little bit of Michael Jordan with the Wizards, I mean when a guy loves to play like Brady does like Jordan did — Montana. All those guys were competitors. They loved the sport they played so much that they didn’t want to stop. It’s almost inevitable that you’re going to end up playing in another spot. And that’s just kind of the way it is. It’s going to be really weird though — isn’t it? Seeing him in a different uniform.

Before the NFL topic ended, Kerr called the Buccaneers’ creamsicle uniforms “incredible.” Golden State’s coach said he’s “100%” in for Tampa Bay to bring back their throwback look with the San Mateo native under center.

Report: Warriors have ‘no plans’ to test asymptomatic players for coronavirus

Despite a recent opponent testing positive for coronavirus, the Golden State Warriors have “no plans” to test asymptomatic players for COVID-19.

Since the NBA has suspended the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic, multiple players around the league have tested positive for COVID-19.

On Thursday, the Philadelphia 76ers announced three members of their organization received positive test results for the virus.

Before the NBA hiatus, the Golden State Warriors hosted the Sixers at Chase Center on March 7. Philadelphia was the second-to-last team the Warriors played before the NBA hit pause on the season because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Although the Warriors welcomed the Sixers to San Francisco just 12 days prior to their positive COVID-19 results, Golden State has “no plans” to test asymptomatic players for coronavirus, according to Connor Letourneau.

Despite Thursday’s news that three members of the 76ers organization have tested positive for the coronavirus, the Warriors currently have no plans to test players or staff who aren’t showing symptoms of the respiratory illness.

Before the news of the 76ers positive test results, Bob Myers spoke with reporters on a conference call on Tuesday. The general manager spoke about the Warriors’ direction when it comes to testing.

We’ve been told that the testing is in short supply. And we’re treating ourselves. Like people, which is what we are — we’re not better than anybody. We’re not worse. We’re just a basketball team, like any company. Right now, we’re not interacting with each other. I’ve been told by our doctors and medical community we shouldn’t be testing asymptomatic people at this point in California.

While the Warriors have yet to test players, coaches or staff, plans could quickly change during a fluid and unprecedented time.

Joining the Sixers, the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics have all gone through the testing process for coronavirus.

Recent Warriors opponent announces positive test results for coronavirus

Three members of the Philadelphia 76ers organization have tested positive for coronavirus.

The Golden State Warriors’ early March contest against the Philadelphia 76ers was arguably one of their best wins of the 2019-20 season. Damion Lee paced Golden State with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field with six rebounds and three assists.

Eric Paschall recorded 23 points and three assists off the bench in the Warriors’ furious comeback win. Golden State entered the final quarter of the game down eight points. However, timely shooting by Mychal Mulder rallied the Warriors’ upset victory.

Just days later, the state of the NBA drastically changed. The league suspended the season until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Twelve days after Philadelphia traveled to Chase Center, the Sixers announced three members of their organization received positive test results for COVID-19.

Before the NBA hiatus was underway, Golden State was slated to host the Brooklyn Nets as their next opponent in San Francisco. Members of the Nets have also tested positive for COVID-19, including former Warrior Kevin Durant.

The Sixers and Nets join the Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers as NBA teams with members who’ve tested positive for coronavirus.

Steph Curry’s ‘soul smiled’ during replay of Klay Thompson’s 60 point game from 2016

Stephen Curry spent his Wednesday night watching Klay Thompson’s 60 point game against the Indiana Pacers in 2016.

The NBA hit pause on the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. With no games until further notice, players around the league suddenly have an abundance of time on their hands.

Whether it’s playing video games, watching old highlights or learning the piano, members of the Golden State Warriors are getting creative while the season is suspended.

On Wednesday night, the Warriors got an appetizer to fill their basketball fix. NBC Sports Bay Area reaired the 2016 contest between Golden State and the Indiana Pacers — otherwise known as the Klay Thompson 60 point game.

Thompson famously recorded a new career-high in only three quarters against the Pacers. The three-time All-Star had Oracle Arena in a frenzy, scoring 60 points on 21-of-33 shooting with eight 3-pointers in only 29 minutes. Adding to the legend of the Thompson’s night, the shooting guard only dribbled the ball 11 times.

Thompson’s fellow Splash Brother tuned into the reair of the historic night in Oakland. Stephen Curry tweeted he was watching along with the replay like it was live.

On Thompson’s career night, Curry only tallied 13 points, but he did add 11 assists in 29 minutes.

For a team that has struggled with injuries and losses throughout the current season, a trip down memory lane might be just what the Golden State needs during the NBA hiatus.

Checking in on the Warriors: What are players up to during the NBA hiatus?

During the NBA coronavirus hiatus, members of the Golden State Warriors are finding a bevy of ways to fill their free time.

The Golden State Warriors won’t be returning to the court for the foreseeable future. The NBA has paused the 2019-20 season until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With San Francisco’s shelter in place announcement, The Golden State training facility at Chase Center will remain shut down. With no place to practice their game, members of the Warriors are finding a bevy of ways to fill their time.

Damion Lee

With inspiration from hip-hop star Roddy Rich, Damion Lee is picking up a new hobby during the NBA’s hiatus. Golden State’s shooting guard posted a video on Instagram of him playing the piano.

Former Golden State big man DeMarcus Cousins approved of Lee’s musical skills, leaving “Tuff” in the comment section.

Eric Paschall

Golden State’s second-round draft pick Eric Paschall is getting creative with finding his basketball fix. Paschall is picking up the controller and going to the park on NBA 2K.

On Wednesday, Paschall linked up with his childhood friend Donovan Mitchell to play NBA 2K.

Ky Bowman

With nearly all live events on hold due to COVID-19, Ky Bowman is taking in a new rising sport on the internet. The rookie guard retweeted a video of marble racing.

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry has already admitted to watching his own highlights during the NBA hiatus. On Wednesday, he switched to his teammate’s highlight reel — the two-time Most Valuable Player spent some time watching Klay Thompson.

NBC Sports Bay Area re-aired Thompson’s 60 point performance against the Indiana Pacers in 2016. Curry tweeted he was watching along with the game like it was live.

 

Today in Warriors history: Splash Brothers unite for 70 points vs. Mavs in 2016

With no NBA games on the radar due to the coronavirus, Warriors Wire is digging deep into Golden State’s history.

Due to injuries, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson haven’t played a game together since the 2019 NBA Finals. Thompson has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury. However, the other Splash Brother was in the midst of making his long-awaited return to the basketball court.

After missing 58 games, Curry has only recorded one contest in his return from a broken left hand. With the NBA season on hold until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic, Curry has yet to suit up for game two of his return.

With no games on the radar for the foreseeable future, Warriors Wire is looking back into Golden State’s history — highlighting top performances from the past. Yesterday, we looked at Jason Richardson’s 40 point effort against the Sacramento Kings in 2005.

On March 18, we hit rewind to 2016 when Curry and Thompson were both in the backcourt healthy.

After winning 73 regular-season games, the 2015-16 season will always be defined by Golden State’s game seven NBA Finals loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Still, the regular season provided a bevy of memorable moments for the Golden State Warriors.

On March 18, the Dubs converted road win number 30 against Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas.

Curry recorded 31 points on 12-of-26 shooting with six makes coming from beyond the arc. Thompson matched his Most Valuable Player teammate with 39 points on 14-of-22 from the floor with 10 triples.

Nowitzki scored 24 points while former Warrior David Lee added 16 points and 16 rebounds off the bench for the Mavericks. Though, it was no match for the red-hot Warriors in their 130-112 win as they improved to 62-6 on the season.

Steve Kerr is using the NBA hiatus to catch up on his 2020 draft homework

During the NBA’s hiatus due to the coronavirus, Steve Kerr is watching tape on the upcoming draft class.

The 2019-20 season has trudged the Golden State Warriors deep into uncharted waters. Injuries, trades and the coronavirus have spun the Warriors season upside down.

With 17 games remaining, the NBA season is on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the season returns, Golden State will use the final games on the calendar as an evaluation period. Finding who fits with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will be crucial in the Warriors’ efforts to get back to the playoffs.

Another essential item on the docket for Golden State will be identifying whom they should select in the 2020 draft. With the worst record in the NBA, the Warriors are slated to own a top pick in June’s draft for the first time in years.

On a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, Steve Kerr said he’s using the NBA hiatus to catch up on draft prospect film.

I’m watching tape on some of our draft prospects. And, you know, something I haven’t been able to do much of over the years, and I hadn’t done any of it this year. So I’m trying to use that time to get a feel for the guys who are on our list for the draft coming up.

While there isn’t a consensus top player in the 2020 pool, how Kerr and Bob Myers handle their draft homework will be vital. Names like James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball lead many mock drafts. However, Golden State could shift to a rising prospect like Obi Toppin or Onyeka Okongwu.

The Warriors will have three months to narrow down the search.

Today in Warriors history: Jason Richardson hits game winner in 40 point performance vs. Kings in 2005

With the NBA on hiatus, Warriors Wire is looking back into Golden State’s history.

While it’s technically the stretch run of the season, the Golden State Warriors won’t be suiting up for a game until further notice. The NBA has suspended the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With no basketball on the radar, Warriors Wire is digging deep into Golden State’s history — highlighting worthy individual performances from the past. Yesterday, we looked at Klay Thompson’s clutch 23 second-half points against the Portland Trail Blazers in 2010.

While the modern Warriors roster has been littered with All-Star caliber players, in the early 2000s, Jason Richardson was the featured headliner at Oakland’s Oracle Arena.

March 17, 2005

The 2004-05 season for the Golden State Warriors wasn’t pretty for Mike Montgomery’s squad. However, Richardson started to establish himself as a true scoring threat in the league.

The shooting guard averaged 21.7 points per game on 44.6 % shooting from the field. Against the Kings late in the season, “J-Rich” exploded for 40 points against the playoff-bound Sacramento Kings.

Richardson shot 16-of-28 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Michigan State product added 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals against the Kings.

On top of his big night on the stat sheet, Richardson’s biggest bucket clinched the Warriors 100-97 win. Golden State held the lead throughout the game, yet the Kings fought their way back in the second half behind Cutino Mobley’s 28 points.

Kenny Thomas tied the game for Sacramento at 97, with 40 seconds remaining. The two-time Slam Dunk Champion drilled a 23-foot jumper with 28 seconds left in the game. Sacramento missed their next four shots to clinch the Warriors upset win.

Over his career with Golden State, Richardson recorded two 40 point efforts against the Kings.

Draymond Green gets ‘last court workout for the foreseeable future’ at Warriors facility

With San Francisco placing a shelter in place order due to coronavirus, Draymond Green got in one last workout at Chase Center.

The NBA has suspended the 2019-20 season until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the wake of the NBA going on hiatus, precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 are continuing to grow.

On Monday, San Francisco announced a shelter in place order for the city for all non-essential needs. Residents across San Francisco will be staying home to slow down the spread of coronavirus.

After San Francisco’s shelter in place announcement, Draymond Green shared an Instagram story from the Warriors training facility. In Green’s story, the caption read, “last court workout for the foreseeable future.”

Before the NBA paused its schedule, Green has played less than 10 minutes in Golden State’s last nine contests. The former Defensive Player of the Year missed two games with a pelvic contusion. On return, he was ejected against the Los Angeles Lakers in the first half. Green then missed the following six games with knee soreness.

When the NBA season returns, Green will have 17 games left on the calendar before the offseason.

Today in Warriors History: Klay Thompson splashes late game-winning 3-pointer to beat the Blazers, 113-112

In 2014, Klay Thompson hit a late go-ahead 3-pointer to give the Golden State Warriors a one-point victory in Portland.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Golden State Warriors and the rest of the NBA are currently on hiatus until further notice.

Prior to Steph Curry and Klay Thompson becoming NBA champions, the blossoming Splash Brothers were battling for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Before clashing deep into future playoffs, the Golden State Warriors were fighting for position against Portland. The Warriors were listed behind Damian Lillard’s Blazers as the six seed in the Western Conference playoff picture before traveling to Portland for a mid-March contest.

The Blazers jumped out to a lead that grew to 18 in the third quarter. However, it wasn’t enough to close out Curry and Thompson. The Washington State product scored 23 of his 27 points in the second half to push Golden State back into the game.

The Warriors grabbed the lead with six minutes left in the final quarter, setting up a classic finish. With 11 seconds left, Portland stole the lead back, 111-110. The next possession, Thompson drilled a triple to put the Warriors up by two points. Portland’s Nick Batum missed a game-tying free throw with five seconds remaining to clinch Golden State’s road win.

On top of Thompson’s heroic 27 points, Curry added 37 on 11-of-24 shooting from the field with six makes coming from beyond the arc.

In 2014, the Warriors secured a spot in the postseason for the second consecutive year. Although they were eliminated in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State followed their playoff exit in 2014 with five straight trips to the NBA Finals.
