Georgia player accidentally levels Kirby Smart during celebration

Down goes Kirby.

Down 7-0 in the SEC championship game against LSU, the Georgia Bulldogs thought they had recovered a fumble in dangerous territory after running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire lost the ball as he was going to the ground. Georgia’s Lewis Cine grabbed the ball and ran to his sideline to celebrate, where head coach Kirby Smart leapt into the air to bump into Cine in celebration.

Cine, who is one of Georgia’s smaller players at 185 pounds, crashed into Smart and appeared to send his coach crashing to the ground just as the CBS feed cut to a different shot.

Unfortunately for Georgia, the fumble was reviewed and Edwards-Helaire was ruled to be down before the ball came out. Fans watching the game couldn’t believe that CBS didn’t show a replay of the collision.

Joe Burrow completed a pass to himself for a first down

Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

Generally, when passes are deflected at the line of scrimmage in football there’s a solid chance that someone might come up with an interception or, at the very least, the ball will be incomplete.

Unless you’re Joe Burrow, that is. Then you just catch the ball yourself and run for a first down.

Burrow had one of his passes deflected right back to him against Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Instead of just falling down and playing it safe, Burrow caught the pass and ran 16 yards to give LSU a first down.

The magical season for Burrow and LSU is the gift that just keeps on giving. Only they could turn a 10 yard loss into a 16 yard gain. A few plays later, Burrow threw his first touchdown of the game.

It’s safe to say the Tigers are off to a great start in their quest for the SEC Championship.

Oklahoma has two more hurdles to leap for Playoff: Big 12 Championship win, Georgia loss

No. 6 ranked Oklahoma got its gift from an old foe on Friday night. Oregon beating Utah 37-15 gives the Sooners two more hurdles to clim.

No. 6 ranked Oklahoma (11-1. 8-1 Big 12) got its gift from an old foe on Friday night.

Ahead of the Sooners’ Big 12 Championship bout with No. 7 Baylor (11-1, 8-1), Oklahoma now needs one more scenario out of its control to make the College Football Playoff.

Oregon took it to No. 5 Utah Friday night in the PAC-12 Championship game, beating the Utes 35-17. The win ultimately elevated Oklahoma’s ranks in the College Football Playoff race, giving them two more scenarios before cementing themselves into college football’s final four.

No. 2 LSU will need to beat Georgia. The Bulldogs, currently ranked fourth in the College Football Playoff rankings, would end all of the Sooners and Jalen Hurts’ dreams of playing for the national championship.

The other, Oklahoma beating Baylor in the Big 12 Championship.

The Bears had a 28-3 lead in the second-quarter of the first matchup between the two teams. They then had a 31-10 halftime lead.

Oklahoma stormed back, completing its biggest comeback victory in school history in winning 34-31.

The Sooners and Baylor Bears kickoff at 11 a.m. CT from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on ABC.

5 reasons why LSU will beat Georgia on Saturday

Five reasons why the LSU Tigers will beat Georgia football on Saturday in Atlanta

This is it folks, the game we have all been waiting for. Georgia will take on LSU in Atlanta, with a spot in the College Football Playoff on the line.

Though Georgia is a heavy underdog amongst the media and even in Vegas, we still think the Dawgs will put up a great fight against the Tigers.

We gave you our five reasons why Georgia will pull off the upset, so now, it’s time for our five reasons why LSU wins, unfortunately.

Bare with us, this does not mean we are picking the Tigers on Saturday. However, it’s time to discuss the strengths LSU has below.

Let’s get to it.

Georgia football SECCG: Expert picks and predictions (UGA vs LSU)

The UGA Wire staff has put together a list of expert picks and predictions ahead of Georgia Football’s game vs LSU for the SEC Championship.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have won the SEC East three straight years, earning them their third straight SEC Championship game vs LSU, this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. EST at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA.

Besides former Bulldog Justin Fields and Ohio State, LSU has been the hottest team of the 2019 college football season.  The #2 Tigers are 12-0 on the season including wins over Florida, Auburn and Alabama.

Georgia comes into the game a bit banged up and not exactly peaking at the right time.  The Dawgs will be without senior WR Lawrence Cager who underwent ankle surgery as well as freshman WR George Pickens who was suspended for the first half for on-field incidents.  Those are the Dawgs top two receivers on the year.

D’Andre Swift also left the Georgia Tech game with a shoulder injury but should hopefully be back for Saturday’s matchup.

LSU QB Joe Burrow has been putting up exceptional numbers for the Tigers as he currently sits in 2nd for the Heisman Trophy race.  Burrow has a total QBR of 93.4 and has thrown for 4,366 yards, 44 TDs and 6 INTs on the season.

Kirby will need to draw up a near flawless game plan and Jake Fromm needs to find his guy in a shallow receiving core if the Dawgs want to pull this one out and secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The UGA Wire staff has put together a list of score, stat and game predictions ahead of Saturdays matchup.

Here are the picks:

Georgia football K Rodrigo Blankenship wins another prestigious SEC award

Georgia football K Rodrigo Blankenship has won yet another prestigious SEC award.

Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship has earned yet another prestigious SEC award.

On Thursday, it was announced that Blankenship had been named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football.

Blankenship is Georgia’s fourth winner of this award. David Greene (2004), Aaron Murray (2013) and Chris Conley (2014) are Georgia’s previous recipients.

With a 3.71 GPA, Blankenship graduated cum laude with a degree in Digital and Broadcast Journalism in 2018 and is currently working toward a master’s degree in journalism.

Blankenship is the school’s all-time leading score, a record he broke this season, and the conference’s second all-time leader in points scored.

He has been named the SEC’s Special Teams Player of the Week six times this season.

Ed Orgeron previews Georgia football and SEC Championship Game

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron previews Georgia football, 2019 SEC Championship Game Saturday December 7th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

In a press conference with LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, Orgeron talked Kirby Smart, Jake Fromm, Dawgs defense and more, previewing Saturday’s matchup for the SEC Championship.

Orgeron and the #2 ranked Tigers are 12-0 on the season (8-0 SEC) and come into the game favored by 7.5 points.

“They’re going to play their best, man,” said coach Orgeron. “This is their third time here in a row. They’re going to be hungry. They’re well-coached. We beat them last year, so they have a little chip on their shoulder. Know what I’m saying?”

The Dawgs lost a tough one last year in Death Valley by a score of 36-16.  On the similarities of the matchup, coach O acknowledged that a lot can change in a year.

“Whole different time, whole different circumstance.”

Coach Orgeron knows more about the Dawgs players than you’d think.  Although they don’t usually meet in the regular season, many of his opponents’ toughest matchup of the year is Georgia, having Coach O watching plenty of Dawgs film.

“Again on defense, by far the best defense we’ve seen. 10 points per game. They basically are a 4-3, some 3-4. Only giving up 257 a game. Tyler Clark and their defensive line, I watch them all the time, because I watch opponents’ offensive line.”

Coach O is also very familiar with Georgia’s Kirby Smart.

“A lot of respect for Kirby and the job he’s done… Go against him recruiting, know the players he’s recruiting. Know the type of coaches he has on his staff. Well-coached football team, very athletic.”

A question came up wondering if Orgeron believed his team would still be in the playoff even with a loss to Georgia.  Coach O was having absolutely none of that.

“Not even thinking about it,” Orgeron said. “Uh-huh. I’m not buying into that at all. We got to win. I don’t know if we got to win to get in the playoffs or not. I’m not even talking about that. Our goal is to beat Georgia and win the SEC, then let’s see what happens.

Two well coached teams collide on the gridiron in Atlanta for the SEC Championship this Saturday, December 7th at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Georgia football injury report ahead of SECCG vs LSU

Georgia Football full injury report ahead of the SEC Championship Game this Saturday December 7th @ 4:00 p.m. on CBS.

Last Saturday’s game at Georgia Tech was the largest margin of victory Georgia has ever beat the Yellow Jackets by, but it didn’t come without a price.

As if losing WR Lawrence Cager for the rest of the season to an ankle injury wasn’t bad enough, the Dawgs star RB and engine to their offensive game D’Andre Swift got placed on the injury report for the first time all season. On top of that WR George Pickens got himself suspended for the first half of the SEC Championship Game by the SEC for throwing punches.

All of this sounds like bad news for Dawgs fans, but Kirby Smart has faced a little bit of adversity in his time in Athens.  Kirby has lost his offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, top 5 receivers, a 1,000 yard rusher, a Jim Thorpe Award winner and has nearly 70% freshmen and sophomores on his team this year (youngest in all of SEC).

All of this and he still has the Bulldogs playing for a College Football Playoff for the third year in a row.  Pretty incredible if you ask me.

Here’s Georgia’s full injury report ahead of the 2019 SEC Championship Game against LSU.
