Series history: Georgia football versus Alabama

The University of Georgia has lost six consecutive football games to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Will things change in 2021?

The University of Georgia has lost six consecutive football games to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Georgia last defeated Alabama in 2007.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 6-1 in his career with the Crimson Tide against Georgia. He is 3-0 in his coaching career against his former assistant coach Kirby Smart.

The 2021 game has a different feel to it for the Georgia Bulldogs, but many UGA fans will not believe they’ll beat Alabama until they see it. Here’s a look at the series history between Georgia and Alabama:

UGA back in mix for elite RB Treyaun Webb

The Georgia Bulldogs are back in contention for four-star class of 2023 running back Treyaun Webb.

The Georgia Bulldogs are back in contention for four-star class of 2023 running back Treyaun Webb. Webb recently decommitted from the Oklahoma Sooners.

Webb and several other top Sooner recruits decommitted from Oklahoma following Lincoln Riley’s surprising decision to accept the head coaching at USC.

Webb was previously committed to Kirby Smart and UGA in November 2019. Webb backed off that decision.

Webb plays football at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida.

The 6-foot, 188-pound athlete mostly plays running back and wide receiver. On film, Webb shows prowess as a pass blocker, bounces off attempted tackles and displays good hands. Webb is ranked No. 96 overall in his class and is one of the top prospects in Florida.

Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma made Webb’s top three schools back in June. USC is now likely in the mix for the four-star running back as well.

The Trinity Christian star announced his decommitment via Twitter:

Webb has reopened his recruitment and has plenty of time to make a decision. We will continue to provide updates on his recruiting process.

Georgia football is on fire in recruiting and on the football field. Head coach Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia have the No. 1 team in college football and the top-ranked class of 2022.

UGA has added a commitment form three-star offensive line recruit RyQueze McElderry. Georgia offensive line coach Matt Luke offered the 2023 class is offensive lineman a scholarship in June 2021.

McElderry plays high school football for Anniston High School in Anniston, Alabama. McElderry additionally plays basketball. The three-star offensive line prospect holds scholarship offers from college football programs like Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina and Georgia.

McElderry is 6-foot-3 and 340 pounds. He primarily plays offensive guard. He joins four-star offensive tackle Bo Hughley as UGA’s only commitments along the offensive front in the class of 2023.

Georgia now has eight commitments in the class of 2023 and currently holds the No. 1 ranked class for the cycle, according to 247Sports.

On film, McElderry is very powerful. The three-star offensive guard frequently locks in opposing defensive linemen and controls them for the rest of the play. The Anniston High School star played a lot of right tackle in these impressive highlights (below), but he could convert to offensive guard at the college level.

Twitter reacts: Florida Gators fire coach Dan Mullen

The Florida Gators have fired head coach Dan Mullen after a brutal recent stretch of games against Power Five opponents.

The Florida Gators have fired head coach Dan Mullen.

Running back coach and special teams coordinator Greg Knox will serve as Florida’s interim head coach. Florida has one remaining regular season game in 2021 against FSU.

After losing to Missouri on Saturday, Florida is now 5-6 overall and 2-6 in the SEC. The Gators have struggled since losing to LSU in 2020. Florida only has two wins over Power Five opponents since the infamous shoe throw.

Florida has lost four of its last five games, including a blowout loss to South Carolina. The Gators’ only win since Oct. 9 came against Samford, who still managed to score 52 points at Florida.

Mullen took over as head coach of the Gators in 2018. He finishes with a 34-15 career record at Florida. Mullen built a lethal passing attack that dominated the SEC for most of last season. Mullen’s downfall was abrupt.

Florida will have one of the most attractive available coaching jobs in all of college football along with LSU and USC. College football programs Florida continue to struggle to recruit the best in-state talent and win.

Here’s how social media reacted to Dan Mullen’s firing:

UGA football drops hype video ahead of Senior Day

The Georgia Bulldogs have dropped a hype video for Senior Day and the Charleston Southern game narrated by Jordan Davis.

The Georgia Bulldogs have dropped a hype video for Senior Day and the Charleston Southern game. Georgia football senior defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who chose to return to Athens for one more year instead of heading to the NFL draft, narrates the video.

The Charleston Southern game will be the final home game for many of Georgia’s seniors. A large contingent of UGA seniors will head to the NFL following this season.

The current senior class is 21-1 at Sanford Stadium (from 2018-2021). The decorated seniors will look to win one more game between the hedges.

Jordan Davis emphasizes commitment to the Georgia football program and how he is thankful for UGA coaches, fans, and players in his narration of the game 11 preview:

Davis mentions that Georgia football will have a lifelong commitment and unbreakable bond. For many UGA seniors it will be their final time playing at Sanford Stadium. Some will be eligible to return, but others will head to the NFL, pursue a career outside of football, or attend graduate school.

Players like Stetson Bennett will have a chance to return in 2022 due to the 2020 college football season not counting against a year of student athlete eligibility.

Four-star class of 2023 tight end prospect Ethan Davis has named his top seven schools.

Four-star class of 2023 tight end prospect Ethan Davis has named his top seven schools. Davis plays at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

The No. 1 recruit in the class of 2022, Travis Hunter, also plays for Collins Hill, but he is out for the season after suffering a leg injury. Hunter is committed to the Florida State Seminoles.

Collins Hill is 11-0 and is one of the best high school teams in Georgia.

Davis is ranked as the No. 182 recruit in the class of 2023 and the No. 12 tight end. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end took an unofficial visit to Georgia for the Missouri game on Nov. 6.

The four-star recruit named his top seven schools via his Twitter account:

Ethan Davis puts Georgia, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Penn State, and FSU in his top seven. Where will Davis go?

The four-star tight end still has a long time to decide his college football future. Ethan Davis also plays high school basketball, which tends to be helpful for tight ends.

UGA football has the second-ranked class of 2023. Kirby Smart and Georgia already have a commitment from the No. 4 tight end in the class, Pearce Spurlin.

Former Florida Gator throws shoe, gets penalty

Former Florida Gators defensive end Carlos Dunlap threw a shoe during the fourth quarter of the Packers-Seahawks game

Former Florida Gators defensive end Carlos Dunlap threw a shoe during the fourth quarter of an NFL game. Dunlap, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, threw the shoe of a Green Bay Packers offensive lineman right in front of a pair of officials.

Dunlap’s shoe throw proved costly. Green Bay was facing third-and-short, but Dunlap’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty gave Aaron Rodgers and the Packers a fresh set of downs.

The Packers eventually scored a touchdown on the drive to go up 10-0. Green Bay ended up winning 17-0. Carlos Dunlap’s penalty is a familiar sight for Florida Gator fans:

A Florida defensive back threw a shoe and drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against LSU in 2020. The penalty helped LSU score a game-winning field goal and crushed Florida’s College Football Playoff hopes.

Dan Mullen and Florida are 2-8 in their last 10 games against Power Five opponents since the shoe throw.

Georgia dominates Tennessee, moves to 10-0

The Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Tennessee Volunteers in a 41-17 road victory

The Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Tennessee Volunteers in a 41-17 victory at Rocky Top. Tennessee got off to a fast 7-0 start, but ultimately, Georgia overcame Tennessee’s strong first quarter and secured a comfortable 24-10 lead at halftime.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett was successful throwing the football more than usual (Bennett finished with a season-high 29 passing attempts) for UGA. Running back James Cook had his best game of the season. Cook scored three total touchdowns and accumulated 147 total yards. Cook may be Georgia’s top running back.

Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell looked impressive. He finished with five receptions for 65 yards.

Georgia’s offensive line played well. Warren Ericson started at right guard, but Xavier Truss replaced early in the game. Ericson continued to play on special teams. Broderick Jones held up well on the edge. Veteran Jamaree Salyer is working his way back from an injury.

Defensively, Dan Lanning adjusted following a slow start. Georgia’s corners looked shaky in coverage at times. Kelee Ringo was beat deep a few times. Derion Kendrick and company allowed 200 receiving yards to Tennessee receiver Cedric Tillman.

Kendrick did record an interception. Linebacker Channing Tindall finished with three sacks. Georgia held the Vols to just 55 rushing yards.

Georgia’s red zone defense looked solid. The Dawgs held up well in the second half before allowing another garbage time touchdown.

Kirby Smart and Georgia are 10-0. UGA finishes 8-0 in SEC play. Georgia faces Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech in their two remaining regular season games.

The defensive line battled a stomach bug entering the game. Robert Beal, Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, and Nolan Smith all went down with injuries throughout the game. Georgia’s depth at edge rusher is a concern, so Nolan Smith’s status is something to watch moving forward.

Watch: South Carolina trolls Florida for leaving star WR wide open

The South Carolina social media team decided to rub in wide receiver Josh Vann’s wide open touchdown from their 40-17 win over Florida.

The South Carolina Gamecocks demolished the Florida Gators 40-17 on Nov. 6. Florida has made some changes to their defensive coaching staff following the surprising defeat.

The Gamecocks’ big win wasn’t enough for their social media team. South Carolina decided to rub in wide receiver Josh Vann’s wide open touchdown in the second quarter.

Josh Vann’s touchdown put South Carolina up 20-10. The Gamecocks did not look back from there and ended up with a 40-10 lead before Florida scored a fourth quarter touchdown.

South Carolina hilariously roasted Florida over the Josh Vann touchdown:
