Georgia junior WR enters NCAA transfer portal

Georgia football junior WR enters transfer portal after three years of nagging injuries with the Bulldogs in Athens.

With Georgia’s G Day spring football game and the start of spring football just weeks away, the Dawgs have taken a hit to its receiving corps.

Junior wide receiver Tommy Bush, who has dealt with nagging injuries the majority of his time in Athens, has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Bush was involved in a hit-and-run car accident in October where he suffered a concussion and lost a tooth.  Prior to this incident, Bush was nursing a sports hernia/groin injury.  He did not see the field last season and never truly got to unlock his potential.  He has only recorded one catch during the 2019 season.

The 4-star recruit is a Texas native and has at least two years of eligibility left in his college career.

Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards struggles in Timberwolves loss

Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards did not have his best game against the Bucks.

After going viral earlier this week thanks to a massive dunk, which was followed with a hilarious postgame interview, former Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards is beginning to look like he was worthy of being the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Last night, though, in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Edwards struggled. He shot just 3/13 (3/8 3PT) and had 4 turnovers while scoring just 9 points in 28 minutes. Minnesota would lose the game 139-112.

The Timberwolves rookie has had a solid first year, posting an average of 4.1 points per game, but he had his best showing to date last week against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Versus Los Angeles, Edwards put up 28 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal while shooting 5/10 from deep.

Anthony Edwards has impressive game against Lebron James and Lakers

Former Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards goes for a career night against Lebron James and Lakers in their second career matchup.

Two No. 1 overall NBA Draft selections went at it Tuesday night in a very exciting matchup.  Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers got the best of former Georgia guard Anthony Edwards and his Minnesota Timberwolves, but not without a fight.

Edwards, who was selected first overall by the Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA Draft, put on a show against arguably the greatest basketball player to ever walk the planet, dropping a career-high 28 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal.

Midway through the third quarter, tied up at 68 a piece, Edwards lined up James and cashed a three pointer right in his grill to put Minnesota up three.  You could see Edwards’ excitement oozing out of him after hitting a shot most kids can only dream of.

WATCH:

Lebron closed the gap and took care of business, winning by a score of 112-104.  He finished with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists on 65% shooting.

Edwards is playing very well so far, averaging 14.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists.  He still trails fellow rookie LaMelo Ball, who leads all rookies in points, rebounds and assists per game.  Edwards is currently second in rookie points per game, trailing Ball by just a mere .05 points.

UGA announces attendance policies and date for 2021 G-Day spring game

UGA announces Georgia football’s 2021 G-Day date as well as all attendance and COVID-19 policies that will be in place for the scrimmage.

Georgia fans will get their first look at the new breed of incoming Bulldogs on April 17 during the beloved G-Day spring football game. Time of kickoff and broadcasting information has not yet been released by the university.

This will be the second G-Day game that takes place during the COVID-19 era, and many of last year’s safety precautions will still be in play.

Sanford Stadium will be allowing 20-25 percent capacity into the game just like last year’s spring game and this past football season.  Tickets will go up for request digitally on March 1 for $10 a pop, and all proceeds will be donated to charity.

This year ticket sales will be offered to all 2020/2021 Hartman Fund donors.  The Hartman Fund helps provide financial support to UGA student-athletes for a number of different resources to help establish a strong foundation for success in life beyond their playing days in Athens.

Here is the breakdown of the 2021 G-Day ticket priority access:

1st priority: 2020 Hartman Fund donors who were only given tickets for the 2020 Vanderbilt game, which was cancelled due to COVID-19 precautions. Magill Society members are also included in this first priority group.

2nd priority: 2020 Hartman Fund donors who converted any amount of their remaining balance toward the COVID-19 UGA Athletics Fund.

3rd priority: All remaining 2020/2021 Hartman Fund donors.

4th priority: UGA Faculty, Staff and Students.  Certain individuals will receive an email from the Athletic Association Ticket Office with the possibility to request tickets.

5th priority: The general public will have access to any remaining tickets on Monday, March 15.

Campus parking lots will open and be available to G-Day ticket holders three hours prior to kickoff.  Sanford’s gates will open two hours before kickoff.

These lots will be accessible by special permit only:

• Tate Center Deck and surface lot

• Clark Howell parking lot

• Sanford Drive and Field Street

• Lower East Campus Road lot

Handicapped parking will be available in the Tate Center Parking Deck and East Campus Road lot with a valid handicap parking permit and G-Day game ticket.

No tailgating will be allowed for the 2021 G-Day game.

All fans in attendance will be required to wear a face mask when entering and walking around the stadium. They may be taken off when seated, socially distanced of course. Hand sanitation stations will be located  throughout the whole stadium. Sanitation crews will also be present to regularly clean bathrooms and concession stands.

Four-star running back Lovasea Carroll signed with the University of Georgia in December. This year, he will look to earn playing time behind James Cook, Zamir White, Kendall Milton and Kenny McIntosh.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a stacked running back room again, but Carroll will find a way to earn playing time next season.

Carroll is a talented prospect out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.  He ranks as the nation’s No. 116 recruit and No. 6 running back in the class of 2021. Carroll is from Warrenton, Georgia.

Check out Carroll’s highlights from his junior season at IMG Academy:

Carroll played against stout competition during his time at IMG Academy. Carroll’s biggest strengths are his speed and agility. He may be Georgia’s fastest running back on the roster next season.

Twitter reacts: Tennessee hires head coach Josh Heupel

The Tennessee Volunteers have hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel to be their head coach. Here’s how media and Twitter reacted.

The Tennessee Volunteers have hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel to be their head coach. Heupel replaces Jeremy Pruitt, who was fired for cause after the NCAA discovered some of Tennessee’s recruiting violations.

Former UCF athletic director Danny White did not spend very long on his coaching search and pulled the trigger on Heupel. The duo reunite with a tall task ahead of them.

Tennessee has some talent, but has lost a lot of experience to the NCAA transfer portal. Georgia fans and the rest of the SEC can expect Tennessee to install a no-huddle offense with lightning speed. Tennessee’s offense should improve. The SEC has seen a recent influx of aggressive offensive schemes in recent seasons.

In 2018, Josh Heupel replaced former UCF head coach Scott Frost, who helped UCF to an unbeaten 13-0 record the year prior. Heupel finished 28-8 in his head coaching career with the Knights, including a 12-1 season in 2018.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Tennessee’s latest head coach Josh Heupel:

Georgia football hires Jahmile Addae as new DB coach

Georgia football hires former WVU DB coach Jahmile Addae as its new DB coach.

Dawg Nation has made a big time addition to its coaching staff.  Jahmile Addae, who spent the past two seasons as the West Virginia defensive backs coach has officially been hired as Georgia’s newest defensive backs coach.

Addae started at safety for four seasons with the Mountaineers during his collegiate years from 2002-05. believe it or not he matched up against the Dawgs in the Sugar Bowl matchup in the ‘05 season against Georgia.

West Virginia led the nation in pass defense last season, allowing just 159.6 yards per game.  Addae will replace Charlton Warren at Georgia who left after just two seasons to become defensive coordinator at Indiana.

On paper this is a very strong hire for the Bulldogs who will be without members of their core secondary who have declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Tennessee hires UCF’s Josh Heupel as new head football coach

The University of Tennessee has hired former UCF coach Josh Heupel as its next head coach, following Level II recruiting violations.

2021 did not start off the way Tennessee football fans were hoping for.  On January 18th the University was hit with violations regarding recruits being handed McDonald’s bags full of cash as an incentive to come play for the Volunteers.  You truly can’t make this stuff up.  Anything for Tennessee to get any sort of edge in the SEC.

The Vols’ then head coach Jeremy Pruitt was swiftly fired.  The violation is classified as a Level II violation which is seen as the second worst out of four different levels.  Level II violations are systematic but not out of control, whereas a Level I violation is much more serious.

On Wednesday, as the university attempts to slowly patch up what was an already broken program and team, Tennessee hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel.

Heupel spent the past three seasons as the UCF head coach where he was hired by then UCF athletic director Danny White, who also left for Tennessee and has now hired Heupel again.

“We looked at a number of potential candidates,” said White in a statement this Wednesday. “Josh Heupel, who I had the privilege of working with for three years, is everything we were looking for: winning with integrity, a history of championships and the architect of explosive offenses. He is a players’ coach and the kind of person the student-athletes go the extra mile for. I saw that first-hand, and you can see it in his coaching record.”

In 2018 Heupel replaced former UCF head coach Scott Frost, who guided UCF to an unbeaten 13-0 record the year prior.  Heupel will finish 28-8 in his head coaching career with the Knights.  He went 12-1 in during his first season in 2018.

“I am thrilled to be coming to Tennessee,” Heupel announced in the University of Tennessee’s statement. “I understand that Volunteer fans are hungry for a return to the top that they so richly deserve, and it is my goal and commitment to bring a championship back to Rocky Top.”
