An emotional Klay Thompson had a very sweet message for Kobe Bryant’s family after winning ESPYs award

It just got a little dusty in here.

The ESPYs were held last night in Los Angeles and while there were a number of funny moments with Steph Curry as the host, there were also some emotional moments during the annual awards show.

One of those moments came from Klay Thompson after he won the Comeback Athlete of the Year award. The Golden State Warriors star guard spoke about his childhood in Los Angeles and all the times he got to watch Kobe Bryant in person.

He then told Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, that he and other NBA players think of Kobe and Gigi Bryant every day and that her late husband continues to be an inspiration to him.

This is really powerful:

Vanessa Bryant did see that sweet moment and thanked Klay on Instagram:

Yup, it just got a little dusty in here.

Steph Curry takes jab at Grant Williams, Celtics during ESPYs open

Steph Curry poked fun at Grant Williams and the Boston Celtics as host of the annual ESPY Award show.

Golden State Warriors star point guard Steph Curry had the honor of hosting the 2022 ESPY Award show in Los Angeles, the annual event held to raise money for the V Foundation and to recap the year in sports. Fresh off his fourth NBA title, the two-time MVP joined previous hosts such as Drake, Megan Rapinoe, and Samuel L. Jackson.

As part of his emcee duties, Curry opened the event like any other award show. He made a jab at his old foil LeBron James and warmed the Hollywood crowd up with a little banter. He then turned his attention to the 2022 NBA Finals, where Golden State bested the Boston Celtics in six games. As Curry stated, “there’s nothing LA loves more than beating the Celtics.”

With Grant Williams in the audience, Steph continued, teasing Boston’s young power forward. Curry to Williams in the audience: “It’s great to see you again, my man.”

Curry then suggested Williams admired his outfit, suggesting he could borrow it if he liked. Including the ring. Waka! Waka!

The 7 greatest ESPYs monologues of hosts roasting athletes ahead of Steph Curry’s turn

A look back at some of the best ESPY host monologues before Steph Curry tries it.

The 30th edition of ESPN’s ESPY Awards will be taking place on Wednesday night, and it’s time for an athlete who who’s been in the crowd for many of them to take the stage as host.

Yep, it’s time to see what Steph Curry can do.

We know that it’s the job of the ESPYs host to totally roast everyone there — and some who aren’t in attendance — and make everyone laugh and cringe at the same time.

So before we see the Golden State Warriors legend try it out, let’s look back at some of the best roast-filled monologues from years past:

Colts’ Jonathan Taylor nominated for 2 ESPY awards

Jonathan Taylor is up for a pair of ESPY awards.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has been nominated for two ESPY awards, announced by ESPN on Tuesday.

The awards Taylor has been nominated for include Best NFL Player and Best Breakthrough Athlete.

For the Best NFL Player award, Taylor will be going up against Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

For the Best Breakthrough Athlete Award, Taylor was nominated alongside Trinity Rodman of the Washington Spirit, Skier Eileen Gu and Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies.

It’s going to be tough for Taylor to win the Best NFL Player award. Rodgers was the MVP of the league, Kupp nearly broke the receptions and receiving yards, and Watt tied Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record.

As for the Breakthrough Athlete award, Taylor has a strong case. He was the youngest player to ever record 1,800 rushing yards in a season while also leading the NFL in NFL in rushing yards (1,811), rushing touchdowns (18), total touchdowns (20) and total scrimmage yards (2,171).

The ESPY Awards air July 20 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
